The Akwa Ibom State The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 25- year-old man, Usen Effiong, for posing as a medical doctor and consulting for the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital for more than two months. The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mr. Etim Dickson, said Effiong, an indigene of Ukot Usung Itam, in Itu Local Government Area was caught based on intelligence report from the UUTH. He said, "The police arrested Effiong in the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital impersonating a medical doctor. "The Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association, Akwa Ibom State branch, Dr. John Udobang denied ever knowing the young man. He is not a member of the association." He said the police had investigated Effiong and found out that he was actually impersonating a medical doctor, adding that the law would take its course. Udobang told PUNCH Metro that he received a call from the Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, UUTH, Dr. Sunday Udo on the activities of Effiong. He said, "Udo told me that they caught someone who has not finished secondary school parading himself as a consultant in the teaching hospital as a medical doctor." Udobang explained that he went to the teaching hospital where he interviewed the suspect and found him with stethoscope and sphygmomanometer (blood pressure apparatus). He said, "We also found some prescriptions and forms that he wanted to fill to become a member of the association of resident doctors" "Later, when they went to look for him, he was found in the doctor's consulting room eating. "He has confessed that he is not a doctor, and has not finished his school certificate, and has been coming there to consult in the last two months." Asked how it was possible for an SS II dropout to be consulting in a teaching hospital, Udobang replied that people used to see him but did not know his intention. He said, "The Dean whose table he was sitting on used to see him and thought he was a medical student or a newly employed doctor that he has not known. "It was after one of the younger doctors saw him and asked the Dean who he was that they started investigating him.mramshi http://mobile.punchng.com/output.php?link=http://www.punchng.com/news/secondary-school-dropout-consults-for-teaching-hospital/ |

Out of 2,400 members of the National Youth Service Corps in the Batch A posted to Kano State for the 2012/2013 service year, about 900 of them have been redeployed to other states due to the current security challenge in the commercial city. According to a report monitored on Channels TV on Tuesday, the state Coordinator of the NYSC in the state, Salisu Yakasai, made this known during the closing ceremony of the Batch A orientation exercise in Kano on Tuesday. The corps members were redeployed because of the recent bomb attacks in the state with the latest being the attack at a motor park in the city. Most of the corps members expected to undergo their primary assignments in the state were initially reported to have declined to report to the orientation camp. Traumatised by the recent attack at the bus park, majority of the fresh graduates sought to be redeployed to other parts of the country. According to Yakassai, the remaining 1,500 corps members would be posted to the rural areas of the state, which are considered safer. Meanwhile, the state Deputy Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has promised corps members staying in the state that the state government would ensure the safety of the corps members in the state. Apart from the attack on the bus park, where about 80 persons were believed to have lost their lives, nine riot policemen were also ambushed less than 24 hours after the bus park bombing, only escaping by the whiskers.mramshi http://mobile.punchng.com/output.php?link=http://www.punchng.com/news/900-corps-members-redeployed-from-kano/ |

The Lagos State Government is to develop 1000 low-cost houses at Ijora/Badia, in the Apapa/Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), to replace the shanties recently demolished in the area by the state government. Commissioner for Environment, Mr Tunji Bello stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday. The state government had recently demolished shanties at Ijora/Badia, leading to the displacement of over 60, 000 persons in the area. Bello explained that the proposed housing project would alleviate the plight of residents of the area who lost their homes and properties in the demolition. He said the demolished shanties were not legitimate houses for which the owners could be paid compensation by the state government. “If they were legitimate houses or appropriately approved buildings that people were living in, the government normally pays compensation, but when you have shanties all over the place and they are cleared, there is usually no compensation. The Ministry of Housing has a beautiful plan for the area. The state government is planning to build over 1000 houses around there and work will soon commence on the project,” he said. The commissioner said that the houses would be affordable and be placed under a mortgage scheme, for easy assessment. “The houses are for the poor and anybody who is not poor can assess them. It is going to be under a mortgage system. It is not a thing that you must have much money before you can buy. “All the estates that the Lagos State Government has developed, we are putting together under a mortgage scheme, for people to be able to access them. What we are doing is to give the people the opportunity to own their own houses, even with the little money they have. “The payment system will be stretched out for the convenience of the buyers, for the next 20 to 25 years,’’ he said. Bello urged Lagos residents to take advantage of such opportunities to help the urban renewal initiatives of the state government to reduce shanties in the metropolis.mramshi http://thenationonlineng.net/new/news/lagos-govt-to-build-1000-low-cost-houses-at-ijorabadia-says-commissioner/ |

Johannesburg - Nigerian Henry Okah was jailed for 24 years by the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg on Tuesday. "Effectively, the accused [Okah] is therefore sentenced to 24 years imprisonment," Judge Neels Claassen said as he handed down sentence. On 21 January, Okah was found guilty on 13 counts of terrorism, including engaging in terrorist activities, conspiracy to engage in terrorist activities, and delivering, placing, and detonating an explosive device. Car bombs The charges related to two car bombs in Abuja, Nigeria, in which 12 people were killed and 36 injured on 1 October 2010, the anniversary of the country's independence. The second bombing took place in Warri on 15 March 2010 at a post amnesty dialogue meeting. One person was killed and 11 seriously injured. In both bombings, two car bombs went off minutes apart in both places. The cars were parked in close proximity to each other. Claassen sentenced Okah to 12 years imprisonment for each of the bombings and 13 years for the threats made to the South African government after his arrest in October 2010. The 13 years would run concurrently with the 24 years. In January, during judgment Claassen said the State had proved Okah's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, and his failure to testify meant the evidence against him remained uncontested. Okah has denied any involvement, claiming the charges against him were politically motivated.mramshi http://mobile.saharareporters.com/news-page/independence-day-bombing-henry-okah-jailed-24-years-news24 |
As much as I hate him but I agree with him today Islam means the religion of peace. A person following Islam will find that he or she is surrounded by noble teachings, the aim of which is to establish peace between man and Allah, the Creator of all; between man and man; and between man and the rest of Allah’s creation. How does such a religion deal with the issue of terrorism And what does the word terrorist mean? Dictionaries will define a terrorist as one who systematically uses violence and intimidation to achieve political ends – or one who controls or forces others to do something by violence, fear or threats. All these definitions are covered by two words in the Holy Qur’an, the sacred book of Islam: Fitnah and Ikrâh. Two of the very first verses of our Holy Book say: ‘Al-Fitnatu ashad-du minal qatl’ – meaning that in the sight of Allah, ‘persecution, or making people constantly fear for their lives, is much worse than killing’. And also: ‘Lâ ikrâha fid-dîn’ – ‘There shall be no compulsion in religion’, that is to say, that no one has the right to force others into complying with their demands or compelling others to follow their line of thinking. In Islam, every effort is thus made to protect the peace of not only the Muslims, but also of the followers of other faiths. Allah Almighty says: And if Allah did not defend some men by means of others, there would surely have been pulled down monasteries, churches, synagogues and mosques wherein the name of Allah is oft remembered. (Ch.22: v.41) The Prophet ordered: ‘You will meet those who remember Almighty Allah in their houses of worship. Have no dispute with them, and give no trouble to them. In the enemy country, do not kill any women or children, or the blind, or the old. Do not pull down any tree; nor pull down any building.’ (Quoted from Halbiyyah, Vol.3). It is our belief that not only Islam, but no true religion, whatever its name, can sanction violence and bloodshed of innocent men, women and children in the name of Allah Almighty. |

Super Eagles ace, Osaze Odemwingie who has become more popular for his outbursts on social networking site, Twitter than playing football, has given reasons for his rants. Osaze returned to training at West Brom last week Wednesday despite hinting that he could attempt to buy out the remainder of his contract at the Hawthorns. On Saturday, the striker tweeted, “This account is more like a mini blog. Mini website. When I was busy playing u didn’t hear much from me. Now I play less and talk more haha.” The 31-year-old, who joined West Brom in 2010 from Locomotive Moscow, has been fined up to £76,000 by the club in recent times for his outbursts.mramshi http://www.informationng.com/2013/03/osaze-finally-reveals-why-he-rants-on-twitter.html |

https://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01697/nigeria_1697433a.jpg Arsene Wenger is constantly on the lookout for young talent to embed into his squad and the Arsenal manager might have found a fairly decent defender in Godfrey Oboabona, the Nigerian centre-back who was an ever-present during the Nation’s triumphant African Cup of Nations run. The 22 year old defender currently plies his trade in the Nigerian Premier League with the Sunshine Stars and unsurprisingly will be put through the paces as part of trial before possibly making the jump to English football. The Sun report that Oboabona, who has a year left in his contract with Sunshine, will cost the Gunners around £1m if they decide to keep him after the trial. The player has endeared himself to the Arsenal faithful already by stating that the North-London is close to his heart: “Arsenal are my favourite club from childhood. It is the club I want to play for.” Wenger is on the lookout for a new central defender in the summer as he has grown fed up with the constant mistakes committed by Per Mertesacker and Thomas Vemaelen but Oboabona is by no means the solution for the immediate problem. Wenger will probably be bringing in another 1 or 2 players in the summer, while Oboabona will potentially be groomed for a place in the Arsenal first team by getting a run out in League Cup games should Arsenal be sufficiently impressed by his performances.mramshi http://www.thesportscampus.com/2013032428917/transfer-news/wenger-brings-in-nigerian-defender-on-trial |
