The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that a group, African Peoples Congress (APC), has approached it for registration as a political party. The chief press secretary to the INEC chairman, My Kayode Idowu, who disclosed this to LEADERSHIP Newspaper last night during a telephone interview, said that the group had filed an application for registration as a political party only last week. He, however, added that the group must fulfil certain criteria before it can be registered. When asked if the action of the group was meant to stall the registration of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC),Idowu replied: “We don’t have any application from the All Progressives Congress with us, as the body is yet to approach us for registration.” |

Senator Sani’s statement to the police which we serve our readers below: “My name is Senator Ahmad Sani, former Governor of Zamfara state and now Distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Federal Radio Corporation (FRCN) Kaduna invited me for a phone-in programmed which took place today 9th of March 2013 at 10:00am and ended at 12:00pm. During the phone programme, I was asked if there is any move not to register our new party APC, what can we do? And my response was that if we met all legal requirements and INEC refused to register us, we shall embark on a peaceful protest to INEC until we are registered. Then the moderator asked me, what I mean by peaceful protest? Then I responded by saying just like it happened in Egypt. We can go to Eagle Square together with General Muhammad Buhari, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Sardaunan of Kano Alh. Ibrahim Shekarau and others to mobilize people without using any weapon for a peaceful protest until our party is registered. 1. The police asked me assuming our peaceful protest is not yielding desired result, what do we do next? And my answer to this question is that we are practicing democracy. If the president of Egypt can yield to the pressure of his people in a peaceful protest, I am sure that with the integrity of Prof. Jega that I know personally, he will yield to the people’s pressure and make sure so long as we met all the legal requirements, we are registered. 2. The police further asked that knowing the security situation in Kaduna and that been a PDP state, don’t I think that some people may read meaning to it or may try to make mischief? My answer to this question is that, we are talking of registration of a political party and the process has not even been completed and there is no attempt by INEC because we have not even completed and there is no attempt by INEC because haven't even applied for registration. We only notified them of our desire to form a new party APC. In addition to this, the peaceful protest mentioned is only when INEC refused to register APC after meeting all the legal requirement, I will not see basis for any mischief. However, I am also surprise to be invited by the police because the programme was carried live and as a former Governor and Chief Security Officer of Zamfara state at that time, a Distinguish Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I will never call for violence, never participate in violence and never support violence in Nigeria my dear country. For eight ( years I served in Zamfara stateas a Governor, even with the implementation of Sharia, there was never violence between Muslims and Christians because of my firm belief in peaceful coexistence. So whoever called the CP from Abuja is the one trying to be mischievous and cause crisis in Nigeria.” Please what is wrong with his (Yarima) statement? Muhammad musa amshi |

Politics is a game and is a game for men and not boys. Politics is a game that requires structure and proper calculation. Now for sometimes I've heard people say APC is going to take power from PDP come 2015 and whenever I hear such I start laughing. Apart from the greedy factor I stated last time in my post that was going to destroy the so called APC,I will show you some political mathematics in which GEJ is going to use in winning should he run. Politics at Presidential level is played on structural level and you people will agree with me that its only PDP that has that capacity and that's why they have been running the show since 1999. There is no Ward, LGA or State in this Country that you will not find PDP. What does this mean? It simply means the people can easily be reached and mobilized during elections. Rigging can take place should the President decide to play dirty politics but of cause Mr president will never go that way instead he will prefer to lose in a clean election. Now APC has claimed their mission is to take power from GEJ but how will they do that without a proper structure on ground .APC put together controls 11 states out of the 36states in nigeria and for some of you who follow political issues will agree with me that APC is a sectional party. How do I mean? ACN is of the South west, while CPC and ANPP is of the North West. hahahaha one of my aids just reminded me of Okorocha my friend in APGA. Well PDP controls Imo state for all I care. So let's do the proper break down so that you will understand me better. SOUTH EAST: This zone is made up of 5 states and PDP controls 3 states and 4 out of 5 Governors are core GEJ loyalist. So do you think it is possible for TINUBU to come from Lagos and fight this Governor to win elections in this state? Which structure will he use? Now as long as South East remains GEJ has kept to the two (2) agreements he made with the people of the South East during his campaign, which is (1)Building of the second Niger bridge which contract for it was just awarded last week to one of the biggest constructing giant in the country (2) Fix Port Hacourt / Enugu Express way. As am talking now four(4) Contractors are working on that road, you can ask people that travel on that road to know the state. The Enugu International airport which is the only international airport in the zone is now a first class airport. You can fly to Enugu and see for yourself. The Cargo airport in Owerri has a new look, You can also find out for yourself. In terms of appointment we are well carried along. So tell me do you think APC or Okorocha can deliver this zone to his masters? SOUTH SOUTH: Most People will argue that the President has done nothing in this zone being a zone he comes from. Well I would not want to comment on this till 2014 which he has promised to deliver East- West road but I don't see how a man from BUGUMA will not vote for GEJ then go vote for buhari. Well in other not to waist our time, Sentiments will play a major role here. GEJ is gonna win. SOUTH WEST: ACN controls 5 out of the 6 States. Apart from Lagos State, which to me has been built long ago with Nigeria's money due to the fact that it was the former capital, I don't think there is any other state Action Congress is doing well in this zone. It is obvious the people may be seeking for a change, after all we just saw them lose in Ondo state. If they were so on ground in the zone they would have taking Ondo too! I keep telling my friends from this zone that ACN took South West was that PDP did not put her house in order, take OGUN for example, PDP lost that state just because her house was divided,if you put the vote OBJ's boy got and that which the former Governor's boy got you will agree they would have won by far but due to the rack in the party the votes were divided. Apart from Osun state, tell me the other state GEJ did not win in the zone! NORTH CENTRAL: Apart from Nasarawa state, PDP controls the other States and majority of the state are core GEJ supporters. Infact this zone will welcome Him well then even a President from the zone because the President has done more in these states than his zone. You can ask the people of KOGI more. NORTH EAST: Well this is the zone I don't expect much from because it is controlled by ANPP but still the PDP has structure on ground. Its a fight of 40- 60 fight. NORTH WEST: PDP still controls these states! No disrespect to my friends from the North but somehow the truth needs to be told. One of the major problem the North will have fighting power over from GEJ will be the problem of selfishness and greediness. It is obvious the battle line is between the north and GEJ come 2015 and as it stands now I don't see any body that will or is well accepted all over the South whom is from the North that can win election in ABONIMA, Isokpo or Akabo! and the issue of everybody wanting to be President from the North will also play out too . We saw it happen in 2011 so don't think it can not happen again in 2015. Go check your records very well there are few Presidents in the world that have lost election for 2nd term in office while in African is only one! With the acceptance GEJ has with the western world, don't even think its gonna be easy for APC. Did you guys just see the rating of KPMG? Do you know how much America has just invested in Nigeria? Under whose watch did this investment come in? Can you name which of the G8 states that has not thrown billions of dollars into this country or which Head of state has not visited Nigeria apart from USA .So if you think the West is not interested on who runs this country in 2015 then your dreaming! I can't wait for 2015 to come President GEJ is going back. if you no like am go kiss transformer for your street....lmao |

A Lagos-based lawyer, Efunsola Coker, reacts to an alleged unfair treatment meted out to her by the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission during a trip to Israel last year, reports GBENGA ADENIJI The excitement of Miss Efunbola Coker, a lawyer knew no bounds last year when she considered embarking on a pilgrimage to Israel. Initially, her intention was to register with the Lagos State Pilgrims Welfare Board until, according to her, she learnt that the Federal Government is the ''co- coordinator of the all pilgrimage exercises in the nation.'' Thus, her plans changed and had to register with the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission. But that decision, Coker noted, has left her with a bad experience because of what she described as the shoddy welfare the commission offered her group in Israel. Narrating her ordeal to this correspondent, Coker said she started having troubles with the NCPC as soon as she bought the forms because she discovered that she was the one calling all the time to seek information that ordinarily should be available even on its website. According to her, she paid the sum of N406,150.00 for the travel package and N108,750 equivalent of $750 for Traveller's Allowance. Coker added that after unpleasant handling of matters by the commission, the group eventually left Nigeria for Israel on Saturday, November 10, 2012. The lawyer explained that signs that the trip was not going to be eventful started manifesting when the group was lodged in what she called a rundown hotel in Galilee, which she named as Savyonei Hagalil. She further said the experience they had in Jerusalem was also terrible because, according to her, the hotel they stayed was worse than Savyonei Hagalil. In a complaint dated November 30, 2012, sent via email to the Executive Secretary, NCPC, Mr. Kennedy Okpara, after she arrived and forwarded to our correspondent, Coker expressed her grievances about the trip. She wrote, ''We arrived Tel Aviv, Israel and travelled some two hours to our 'motel' in Galilee. I will never forget the words of my roommate, Mrs. Dupe Ojo, when someone announced, 'This is the hotel' and we looked at this place. I will never forget the feeling of despair that overwhelmed me as we walked into the reception. The place was filthy, for want of a better word. There were cats everywhere, including the reception, cuddling up on the dirty chairs, the wood floor was terribly dirty and the entire furniture and place were terribly unclean.'' She also stated in the email that Israel was the 18th country she had travelled to, so she had a very good idea about holiday packages. The letter read in part, ''There were no less than five persons in my group who were over 70 years old and I cannot imagine the toll the stress had on them. I feel I have been robbed by NCPC, and should be grateful to receive by return explanation for the treatment we received. I do not understand why my life had to be endangered in Bethlehem because, as far as I am concerned, some people wanted to make money from us. It was this attitude that cost over 200 lives to be lost in the Dana air crash, causing families grief. ''I called NCPC and spoke with a female member of staff who told me that pilgrimage is not about comfort. I know too well that I paid for comfort and NCPC collected money enough to provide me with just that. Again, if I paid to sleep on floors I would have. The lady told me the Legal Department of NCPC is waiting for my letter. I do not know exactly what that meant. She said I was the only one who complained and that some people had actually called to thank her. "Now, I do not know of a culture where someone spends her hard- earned money, gives it to another in trust to provide certain services and the giver picks up a phone to thank a person she (the giver) has patronised!'' Efforts made by our correspondent to get the reaction of the commission proved abortive as calls made to the mobile phone of the commission's Head of Operation, Henry Ezike, rang out without him calling back. Besides, he did not reply the email and a text message sent to him. But in a rejoinder to the same letter published on an online platform, titled 'Rejoinder To Efunbola Coker- A Pilgrimage Is Not A Holiday', purportedly written by the commission's executive secretary, he said the state of things painted by the writer was false. The writer added that the claim by the writer that she was entitled to a four or five star hotel was never made. He also said members of the public should visit sites such as expedia.com or hotels.com to find out the rates for hotels in the Holy Land. ''The writer complains that the tour plan forced them to visit Bethlehem and that she would have rather not visited Bethlehem because of the conflict in Gaza. First of all, who would conceive of going on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land without visiting Bethlehem, the birth place of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus? What then is the point of the pilgrimage?'' The letter read |

After their return frm AFCON, the players of Ivory Coast were so ashamed of their great loss to Nigeria, they decided to disguise themselves so as not to be recognised by their fellow countrymen. Drogba disguised himself as a monk. While walking round the streets of Abijan, suddenly, an old lady walked up to him and said, “Hi, Drogba!” Amazed and annoyed that an old lady had seen through his disguise, he went back home and dressed as a Tuareg. Again he bumped into the same old lady and she said, “How do you do, Drogba?” Confused and puzzled, he asked, “How did you recognise me ma?” The old lady laughed out loud and said, “Are you stupid or what? It's me, Yaya Touré.” God be praised, |
Patrick Vieira – 1996-2005 Now an ambassador for Manchester City Emmanuel Adebayor – 2006-2009 Two months after leaving Arsenal he ran the length of the pitch to celebrate a goal he scored against them in front of his former fans. He now plays for hated rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Jose Antonio Reyes – 2004-2006 Reyes was fooled by a radio prank and admitted he wanted to leave Arsenal just a year after joining the club. He said: “I wish I was playing for Real Madrid. Hopefully it could happen. I’m not happy with the way things are. If I’m not playing for Real I’m going to have to carry on playing with some bad people.” Five months later he signed a six year deal but the following season refused to play in a Champions League game for fear he would be cup-tied and prevented from joining Real Madrid. He was loaned to the Spanish club a month later before joining their rivals, Atlético Madrid, the following year. Thierry Henry – 1999-2007 “At one point it crossed my mind to leave,” he said in the summer of 2006. “But I think with my heart and my heart told me to stay. I’ve never played in Spain and never will. This is my last contract.” The following summer he was parading around the Nou Camp in a Barcelona shirt. “It has been a long chase but I’m finally here and happy to be here and I can’t wait to go out there and show what I can do,” he said. “It is incredible. I am looking forward to playing in the Camp Nou and helping the team in every way I can. Barcelona are a wonderful club steeped in tradition and play beautiful football. I’m sure I will be very happy here.” Arsenal recently unveiled a statue of Henry outside the Emirates and he then joined them on loan from NY Red Bulls, scoring 3 goals in 7 games. Samir Nasri – 2008-2011 Two months after signing a contract extension with Marseille, Nasri signed for Arsenal. He was seen kissing Arsenal’s badge after scoring goals against Tottenham Hotspur and dismissed rumours linking him away from the club. “There is not much to say apart from don’t listen to all the rumours and everything that is written or said,” he said in June 2011. “In terms of talent, I feel we had the best squad of the whole league. We played the best football. We were the best team, even if Manchester United had a good season too. We have improved so much. If the boss adds some good players, I really believe a trophy will be won.” Two months later he signed for Manchester City. He said: “It is a big relief. It was a long negotiation and discussion between the two clubs and now I am finally a City player. That is what I wanted from the start. I’m really happy. I was a little bit frustrated because I said to the manager I wanted to leave. I stayed for the whole pre-season, but I wanted to do the pre-season with Manchester City.” Cesc Fabregas – 2003-2011 “Why would I want to leave?” he asked in January 2011. “It is fantastic here. It would be a dream to lift trophies for Arsenal. It has always been my wish. Afterwards you can always be attracted by something else, like a new objective, or new challenges because, for me, life is all about challenges. But my real challenge as captain of Arsenal is to bring this football club success.” After captaining the club for three years and winning just the one trophy in 2005, Fabregas left Arsenal for the club he really loved, Barcelona. Sol Campbell – 2001-2006 Featured in full on Kissed The Badge. Ashley Cole – 1997-2006 After coming through the ranks at Arsenal, Cole talked to Chelsea about a move behind his club’s back. Cole and Chelsea were later charged and fined for breaking Premier League rules on tapping up after the move was finalised. In 2009, Cole showed there was no love lost, speaking about Manchester City: “I don’t know about breaking into the top four, that’s hard to say. I hope they do it. I hope they do really well – and that they finish above Arsenal.” Robin van Persie – 2004-? After being made captain, van Persie lasted just one season before revealing he had no intention of signing a new contract, putting pressure on the club to sell him this summer to ensure he won’t leave on a free next year. Earlier in the season, he claimed that he was committed to the club: “I had seen loads of comments about a story like that, I thought after one or two days it would go away, but it didn’t so I felt it was time to explain things and I did that. I’m committed. This is my eighth year. If you can say of one player that he’s committed, it’s me.” |

Some weird facts Hahahaha some weird fact Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846. John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946. Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860. John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960. Both were particularly concerned with civil rights. Both wives lost their children while living in the White House. Both Presidents were shot on a Friday. Both Presidents were shot in the head Now it gets really weird. Lincoln 's secretary was named Kennedy. Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln . Both were assassinated by Southerners. Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson. Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln , was born in 1808. Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908. John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln , was born in 1839. Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939. Both assassins were known by their three names. Both names are composed of fifteen letters. Now hang on to your seat. Lincoln was shot at the theater named 'Ford.' Kennedy was shot in a car called ' Lincoln ' made by 'Ford.' Lincoln was shot in a theater and hi s assassin ran and hid in a warehouse. Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and his assassin ran and hid in a theater. Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials. And here's the kicker... A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe , Maryland A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe. |

As activities for the celebration of Nigeria’s centenary commences in the country, the Nnadi Azikiwe Day Initiative, a social cultural groups has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to change the country’s name from Nigeria to People’s Republic of Africa (PRA). In a statement signed by its Coordinator Chief Udoka Udeogaranya made available to journalists, the group said it was not proper for the country continue to maintain a national name given to it by the colonial masters. According to the group,” We thought it wise that our dear nation should have a change of name from what the colonial masters called us to a new name that we shall call ourselves. “A new name usually struck a new beginning and a lay off from negative antecedents, of which our nation must get rid-off. We are also aware about the financial cost and arguments against the change of name, but it does not out- weigh the need to give a new hope to a nation in search of a new life that they can be proud of. “We therefore, task Jonathan to summon a meeting of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Senate President, Governors of the Federation to consider a change of name for the Federation of which shall take effect from midnight 1st October, 2014.” The group counseled that the centenary project should not be clouded with calls for national conference, saying it should be dealt with as a national item for discussion. Udeogaranya said though the country has encountered severe storms, its destiny has brought the nation to its present crossroads. “Thus we hold a strong view that our nation must take a stock of all that we have been through in the last 99 years and readjust where necessary and encourage where encouragement is required in sustaining a greater nation,” he added.

RECALL from last week: It is the evening of the eve of the final match of Afcon 2013. I am looking at my crystal ball, and I see an eagle hovering high up in the sky in majestic splendor, its squinted eyes riveted on a target below – a gold trophy. Suddenly, like a meteorite falling from the sky, the eagle dives down headlong, its wings spread out, its two feet hanging menacingly loose. It smothers the trophy, almost covering it from sight with its flapping wings. With powerful claws, in one seamless movement, it lifts the crown and soars back high into the sky just as darkness descends upon the face of the earth. In that same moment, the pounding hooves of a galloping stallion punctuate the scene, it’s breath a labored panting, its nostrils flailing, spewing smoke and fire, and dripping spittle. It screeches crazily to a shuddering halt, looking helplessly and hopelessly into the darkening sky at the retreating eagle, the prize between its feet, flying away and fading into the distance, into the night, into the darkness. My crystal ball goes blank and then black for the last time. The drama that has gripped the whole world is over. The eagle has won! The sound of trumpets pierces the night in concert with the melody and eerie sounds of the vuvuzela! Vuvuzela? Yes, South Africans are celebrating, but not the coveted crown that has been taken away by the eagle. They are celebrating the success of a great feast of football that has successfully, again, taken place over the past three weeks in their land, setting records in attendance and profit beyond expectations. So they celebrate, merging the sound of their vuvuzela with the rhythmic drumming, trumpeting and singing of the celestial supporters from the West – from Nigeria! In great titanic battles, the eagles tamed the lions from Ethiopia, dodged the coppered bullets of the warriors from Zambia, over-powered the old lumbering elephants with giant ivories from Cote D’Ivoire, gave hunting tutorials to the smaller eagles from Mali, and then finally outran and outsmarted the stallions from Burkina Faso. It has been a great fight till the very end, but the king of birds has used its strength and speed and agility to dominate all opposition and rise again and seat on the throne at the summit of African football. It is a deserved and well-earned victory, and even the angels have joined the rest of the world to mark the return of the Super Eagles in the melodic chorus: ‘Fly Eagles Fly’. Keshi’s experiment worked! The triumph of the Super Eagles is well earned and merited. Looking back and going through the entire championship they were easily the strongest team. They improved from match to match even as they started shakily largely because of the bad pitch they had to play on and the lack of faith openly demonstrated even their own closest officials and people. But a champion team is one that still manages to win even when it sometimes plays badly! Keshi knew this and stuck to his strategy to win first and complain later. National coach, Stephen Keshi’s experiment, was to build a new team made up generally of younger players, of several players from the domestic league and of only professional players from abroad that are playing regularly in their foreign clubs. He was going to shun and discard old players that had had their time and ‘failed’ and were only going to be a source of indiscipline and unnecessary distraction for the team. It succeeded. Keshi returned the team to the good old days of a calm and efficient goalkeeper, of wingers that are really athletes running at defenders and tearing up defenses with speed, power and precision shooting, a midfield of tireless runners organised by a maestro (Mikel Obi), and an impregnable defense of big, strong, efficient and hard-tackling players. The Westerhof football philosophy was written all over Keshi’s assembly. He has learned well. Best team in Africa After Afcon 2013, the Super Eagles have really returned as Africa’s undisputed African football kings. The team will reign for some years to come. Through out the championship, they were never under any threat of a defeat. They did not lose any match. They were not dominated by any team. They were so vastly superior that they outran, outsmarted and overpowered every opposition. They were simply the best and the strongest team at Afcon 2013. Some highlights The coach of the championship is undoubtedly Stephen Keshi. Several teams really impressed. They include Cape Verde Islands that proved that the size of a country has little to do with the quality of their football; Burkina Faso, that showed that a team of committed and hardworking fighters can go places; Ethiopia, that showed that the Tiki Taka style of Spanish (Barcelona FC) football is not only a delight to the eyes but is berthing also in Africa; and Mali that showed what impact one great player in a team can have. South Africa did well in hosting another great football festival. Poor officiating raised serious questions about the integrity, competency and ability of African referees. Many matches were marred by decisions that could interpret as incompetency, bias, or even corruption. The television coverage of the matches, the technical analysis on Supersport channels, and the racy commentaries were a great credit to the development of television broadcasting in Africa. Overall, Afcon 2013 has been a great advertisement for African football. |
