@POLITICSNGR Ex-president, Olusegun Obasanjo has denied reports that he said that re-electing President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 will collapse Nigeria. The former head of state in a recent interview said that he never made such a statement. It was widely reported last week that Obasanjo made the comment while delivering a speech at the Bravatnik school of Government at Oxford University. He said he has not visited London since early January 2018. He told Premiumtimes; "I won’t and can’t say that (that Nigeria will collapse if Buhari is reelected). There will be nothing that will make Nigeria collapse. When Nigeria did not collapse under a civil war, it won’t collapse now. My faith and conviction about Nigeria is so strong that I don’t see the country either being dismembered or collapsing. The worst has passed on Nigeria. Once we were able to survive the civil war, once we are able to survive (Sani) Abacha, nothing can be worst than those two. And our democracy is waxing strong. Although there are a few things we need to get right. As far I am concerned, the worst is over. What remains is for all of us and for our leadership to show good faith and commitment to do what is right. Then Nigeria will grow from strength to stren https://politicsngr.com/not-say-re-electing-buhari-2019-will-collapse-nigeria-obasanjo-makes-u-turn/

@POLITICSNGR Below is a statement from the Nigerian police on the matter; The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to an online news credited to Sahara Reporters captioned “VILLA POLICE PROTEST UNPAID ALLOWANCES SINCE 2015” 2. The Force wishes to categorically state that salaries and allowances of Police Personnel across ranks throughout Police Formations, Departments and detachments including those attached to the Presidential Villa are being paid as at when due, and on time. Special and ad-hoc duties allowances are also promptly paid on completion of such duties. 3. The report was carefully studied and was found out to be outright falsehood, unfounded, mischievous and fake news. There was no time the Policemen in the Villa or anywhere else in the Country protested over any issue relating to payment of allowances or whatsoever. Nigeria Police Force is a disciplined organization and its personnel are not allowed to engage in any act that can subject the Force to public ridicule or embarrassment. 4. Furthermore, it is incumbent on the Force to educate the writer of the report that Police personnel’s emolument includes salary and other allowances, and in addition all personnel of the Force enjoy insurance and assurance cover provided for by the Force and the Federal Government to cater for recognized and some unrecognized risks they are exposed to while carrying out core Police duties on daily basis. Also, no Senior Police Officer in the Villa or anywhere else mismanaged or infringed on payment of allowances meant for the Police Personnel serving in the Villa. 5. It is pertinent for the public to know that no Police personnel serving in the villa has complained officially or otherwise of unpaid allowance since 2015. 6. Consequently, members of the General Public are implored to disregard and discountenance the report in its entirety as untrue, misleading, mischievous and a fake news. 7. While the Nigeria Police Force is assuring the media of continuous supports and cooperation, they are implored to always verify facts before publishing in order not to cause panic, tension and misinformation in the minds of the Public. https://politicsngr.com/police-reacts-report-officers-protesting-unpaid-allowances-since-2015/

@POLITICSNGR Britain will build a new 112-bed wing at Kirikiri Prison in Lagos so that it can transfer Nigerian prisoners there, foreign secretary, Boris Johnson announced in London today. In a written statement to parliament, Johnson said tenders had been placed and a supplier identified to conduct the building work at Kirikiri. He did not name the supplier. The project will be funded from Britain’s Conflict, Stability and Security Fund, which has an annual budget of more than 1 billion pounds and aims to commission projects that can help prevent conflicts and stabilise countries or regions. The new 112-bed wing, which will cost 700,000 pounds ($973,000) and be compliant with United Nations standards, will make it easier for Britain to comply with a prisoner transfer agreement it signed with Nigeria in 2014. Under that deal, eligible prisoners serving criminal sentences in Nigeria and Britain can be returned to complete their sentences in their respective countries. The British government did not indicate how many prisoners might be moved or when the project is likely to be completed. Nigerian prisons — many of them built by British colonisers more than 100 years ago — are severely overcrowded, leading to the spread of diseases. The Nigerian government has said it is developing a strategy to tackle the issue. Britain’s own prison system has been showing signs of severe strain in recent years, with overcrowding, rising suicide rates and a growing problem with drug trafficking and other crimes within jails that were sometimes built in the Victorian era. https://politicsngr.com/britain-build-prison-wing-kirikiri-nigerian-convicts/ cc: lalasticlala, mynd44 |

@POLITICSNGR PoliticsNGR has just gathered that the man who sued the APC over the extension of the John Odigie-Oyegun led NWC tenure is not a member of the party. According to the Imo state government, the man whose names are Okere Uzochukwu was said to be a member of the Imo state chapter of the ruling party. But in a statement obtained by PoliticsNGR signed by Sam Onwuemeodo, Chief press secretary to Governor Rochas Okorocha, Uzochukwu is not a member of the APC. The Statement read; "The attention of the leader of All Progressives Congress, APC, in the State and of course, the governor of the State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has been drawn to the reported Court action filed or taken by one Okere Uzochukwu who had also claimed to be a member of APC in Imo State against the decision of the Party to extend the tenure of the Chief John Oyegun -led National Working Committee (NWC) by one year. Mr. Okere Uzochukwu also claimed that he was an “aspirant to the State Chairmanship Position of the Party, in the State”. And he also joined INEC in Suit number FHC/A6J/CS/219/2018. We start our reaction by stating that Mr. Okere Uzochukwu is not a registered member of APC in Imo State. We have done our checks and could not locate such name in our official membership registers. It is now left for Mr. Okere Uzochukwu to mention his ward, his registration number and show his membership card. His case would also help the Party to expose some untrustworthy politicians who crawled into Imo APC and have been playing their usual hide and seek game. The truth is that no genuine member of the Party could wake up one morning and take the party and its National leadership to Court without clearance from the leader of the Party in the State or clearance from the State EXCO of the Party. Mr. Okere Uzochukwu is an impostor and does not have the support of APC members in the State in his action, especially when he is not a member of the Party, and since Imo APC is not against the tenure extension for John Oyegun-led NWC. The APC governors, of which the Imo governor is their Chairman had pressed that the extension of tenure be made across the board in which the State, Local Government and Ward Officers of the Party would benefit from the exercise and that was done. There is therefore no reason to warrant any Court action since the extension was done in good faith. Again there has never been any election fixed for the Party executives at any level. So, Mr. Okere Uzochukwu’s claim that he was an aspirant to the Chairmanship position in Imo was an aberration. The leader of the Party in Imo, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and the Party, its executives and Stakeholders in the State dissociate themselves from the Court action. Meanwhile careful investigation has begun, to find out the black legs known for hide and seek Politics who are behind Mr. Okere Uzochukwu." https://politicsngr.com/just-man-sued-apc-extension-oyeguns-tenure-not-member-party/ cc: lalasticlala, mynd44

@POLITICSNGR Today, the 8th Senate passed another landmark Bill in the fight against corruption. PoliticsNGR learned that the Bill, known as the Federal Audit Service Commission Bill, 2018 ( HB. 107), which was passed for concurrence, is aimed at: establishing the office A the Auditor-General for the Federation and provide additional powers and functions to the office; establishing the Federal Audit Service Commission; repealing the Audit Ad 1956, the Public Accounts Committees Ad; and enacting the Federal Audit Service Bill, 2015. Speaking on this development, President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki said: "Today is a landmark achievement in the fight against corruption. This is will bring accountability and probity in the finances of the government and the fight against corruption. "I must commend all the members of the National Assembly, both the Senate and the House of Representatives. This will go a long way in ensuring the independence A the office of the Auditor-General and will ensure that the Auditor-General has access to different parastatal agencies. "We truly have to block all the various leakages. We have to ensure that we get this to Mr. President to get his assent. We have gone a long way in this administration in our fight against corruption, and it is commendable that the National Assembly are the sponsors and movers of this very important Bill, which we can see has been outdated for many years. We will continue to play our part in this fight against corruption for the sake our country," he said. https://politicsngr.com/breaking-senate-pass-federal-audit-services-bill/

@POLITICSNGR Ousted leader of the Northern Senators Forum, Senator Abdullahi Adamu has opened up on his reason for launching a scathing attack on ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo. PoliticsNGR gathered that Adamu fired Obasanjo over his letter to president Muhammadu Buhari asking him not to contest for Second term in 2019. He said the former leader was biased adding that any attack on the presidency was an attack on his office as a top government official. He pointed out that he was not hired by anyone to respond to OBJ. he told Dailytrust; “What the government did under the leadership of President Buhari showed optimum maturity. Those of us who are not within the Presidency strongly believe that we have rights to make our opinions known on the issue. “We are necessary stakeholders in what Obasanjo said about the government. I am among the three arms of government, so when someone condemns the performance of the government, he condemns my performance also. When somebody calls for the president not to contest for election, he is passing a negative verdict on the government of the day, and I am part of this government. So I have every sense of responsibility to stand by this government. I am under oath to be loyal to this country, the flag, and the Federal Government. I believe that the Minister of Information did his job. “Between me, you and God, I say this with all honour; nobody made me say something about Obasanjo. If anything, I am known for how I stood by Obasanjo and how I supported him. What makes him think that he alone has the solutions to the problems of Nigeria? What qualifications does he have for this? In his first election (1999), he didn’t win one state in the entire South -West of the country, including his own state, Ogun. “By 2003, he virtually went on his knees and made a deal with some governors that he would support them to get back their seats if they didn’t disgrace him. He betrayed them. The only governor that refused to be hoodwinked was Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who won his seat without the help of Obasanjo. The remaining governors lost their seats. “When Goodluck Jonathan was in power, he also wrote a letter to him. He believes that the destiny of any president is in his hands. He believes that his support is critical. This must stop. “I agree with the concept that you “look at the message and not the messenger.” But what is right in what the messenger is saying? For instance, why should he accuse Buhari of nepotism? The constitution of this country is clear enough. Buhari must have at least one minister from each state and he has done that. Take a look at the ministers and the portfolios they hold. I don’t believe that every ministry is equal. You can’t say that the Minister of Finance is on the same page with the Minister of Culture or Minister of Information. None of the key ministries (except that of Education and Agriculture) have leaders of northern extraction. “If he (Obasanjo) was neutral or didn’t even make false allegations, I may not have responded the way I did. But he is throwing his weight around and people respect him because he is a former head of the country. I am close to him and I know him very well. Every government is not good enough, according to him. If he had solved the problems of this country, why then did he leave Yar’adua to inherit the kind of problems he did? If he succeeded in his economic policies, why did Jonathan have problems with the economy of this country? Obasanjo, in all good conscience, ruled this country for about 11 years and still couldn’t solve the problems of this country. “I was a governor and I know what he tried to do, and if walls were to speak, go to house number seven in the Villa here and the walls would tell you what transpired there. The walls would tell you that he actually wanted a third term because he made attempts, many attempts to try to amend the Nigerian constitution such that it would enable him have tenure elongation. “He tried to work on the party’s (PDP) constitution to see what it would be if he didn’t become the president so that he would have what we call soft landing. “I am not a passerby in this; I was part and parcel of this movement, and we keep this thing because we have a duty to keep it as much as possible, you know. But when he comes to undo a whole government because it is Buhari, it is about this government. I said it in my release, except you want me to repeat it, that to an extent, he has not been called to answer. Look, I did mention Halliburton sometimes. I talked about Siemens. Did he play any role in the accusation of corruption and what have you? If not, let him come out and say he was not aware. There are some cases; what happened to those cases in Nigeria? Some of the people that are involved in those cases are languishing in jail in the United States of America. Some of the cases started here and nobody is hearing about them again. “If Buhari wanted, if not for the respect he has for his predecessors, he would have put him on trial. What about the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE)? You know the privatisation that took place and got to him; let him come and let’s have an open enquiry on who played what part. What about Transcorp deals and the oil blocks in this country? He wants to tell us that he is a perfect angel, that there is no palm oil on his hands. https://politicsngr.com/reason-attacking-obasanjo-senator-adamu-opens/ cc: lalasticlala, mynd44

@POLITICSNGR Chief Ayo Adebanjo, an elder statesman has said that Vice president, Yemi Osinbajo has been turned to the 'worst devil' by 'juju' in Aso-rock. Adebanjo advised the VP to step down in solidarity with late Chief Obafemi Awolowo's struggle for true federalism. He also said that President Buhari's integrity was gone. In his words; “When a man who has integrity authorises his AGF to go and meet a criminal in a strange land and then reinstates that criminal? It’s a pity.” On Osinbajo he said; "Don ’t mind that one. I have told him to remember the son of who he is. His father and I were the followers of (Chief Obafemi ) Awolowo on federalism. He was born in federalism. And when he was the Attorney General in Lagos, he took Obasanjo to court over local government allocation that was depriving Lagos. He won the case up to the Supreme Court. Now, he is the Vice -President. It just reminds me of what Reuben Abati wrote that there is something wrong; the moment some people get to Aso Rock, there is a juju there that turns the good people among them into the worst devils. He should have resigned. I say that without any hesitation. The Vice – President — I know him from his youth — highly intelligent and highly qualified. A professor who is very sound. He has a job of his own. He is not jobless Why shouldn’t he resign? He went there with the thought to serve, maybe thinking of the West that, if there are any excesses of the President, he would be able to check it. No ! He was brought into wealth and he was silenced because of office. So, the Vice – President has no excuse. Tinubu has no excuss, particularly the Vice – President , who is a professional in his own right. He knows about all these ills. He has fought against them before. All these things are going on and you are seeing it?" https://politicsngr.com/aso-rock-juju-turned-osinbajo-devil-adebanjo/

@POLITICSNGR Former aviation minister, Femi Fani Kayode has revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari allegedly refused to shake Benue governor, Samuel Ortom's hand at the Council of states meeting in Abuja on Friday. FFK, in a post on social media, also condemned the government for negotiating and paying millions to Boko Haram. He wrote; "When you pay millions of dollars in ransom to Boko Haram in 3 years, when you lie to the world that you have defeated them and when you get the media to suppress the truth about the gains they have made why should you be surprised about Dapchi? It was bound to happen. You empowered and emboldened them! Meanwhile, at the Council of States meeting yesterday President Buhari walked past Governor Samuel Ortom, refused to shake his hand, looked him in the eye and asked "how are your cattle rearers?" with a big smirk on his face. At the same meeting, as he walked past Governor Nasir El Rufai, he shook his hand warmly, smiled and shouted "bulldozer!" We are in a mess! The names of 105 girls allegedly abducted by Boko Haram has been released. The girls were declared missing after an attack by terrorists on a school in Dapchi, Yobe State, earlier this week. Parents in Dapchi, in Yobe State, said they had set up a support group after Monday’s raid, which has revived memories of the 2014 abduction of more than 200 girls in Chibok. “Our first step was to compile a comprehensive list of all the missing girls. So far, we have compiled the names of 105,” said Bashir Manzo, the chairman of the newly created group. Heavily armed jihadists stormed the boarding school in the remote town, forcing terrified students to flee into the surrounding bush. @POLITICSNGR Governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-rufai has filed a N2 billion lawsuit against Senator Shehu Sani for defamation, PoliticsNGR has gathered. El-Rufai filed the suit at the Kaduna State High court on Friday, seeking reliefs for injuries allegedly suffered as results of “malicious statements” in the media by Senator Sani. The Kaduna governor claims that Sani made malicious statements through the media to humiliate and defame him adding that Sani called him a "drunk, loose cannon and an embarrassment to President Muhammadu Buhari". El-rufai demanded a public declaration from Sani that the terrible remarks made against him were false. Speaking to reporters at the court premises after filing the suit, counsel to El-Rufai, Abdulhakeem Mustapha, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), dismissed insinuations that the governor, by virtue of his position did not have the constitutional right to sue any citizen. https://politicsngr.com/el-rufai-files-n2-billion-defamation-suit-shehu-sani/

@POLITICSNGR Governor of Kano state, Umar Ganduje has opened up on his feud with his predecessor and current senator, Rabiu Kwankwaso. Ganduje, in a recent interview with Sun, revealed that he had a healthy relationship with the senator in the past adding that things went south after Kwankwaso started to undercut him. He said; "We were very, very close. Even before 1999, we have been friends. I was Commissioner for Works and Transport for six years during the military, and my former governor is a politician right from the military when political parties were formed. I started politics right from 1978, and in 1979 during the NPN period, I even contested election and was even part of the executive members of the party in the state. So, politics is not something I am just starting now. So, we contested together for governorship in 1999 and the result was controversial. Prince Tony Momoh was in Kano to supervise the primaries, the result was controversial; the elders reconciled us that he should be governor and I should be the deputy governor. I insisted that there should be re-election, but elders pleaded and I agreed to be the deputy governor. Tony Momoh is still alive, you can ask him. And since I became the deputy governor I had to do it well. I had to be loyal, respectful and honest. So, I worked hard to add value to the government by supporting the governor not only by being loyal to him but working very hard to fill the gaps, promote the government and work round the clock to ensure when he is not around there is no difference. That is how we worked together. Even when he was a minister, I was with him. I was on my own when he invited me to come and be his adviser when he was Minister of Defence. I agreed because after all, we have been together, and he felt we could work together. When we won the elections in 2011, he graciously invited me, it was not as a result of any contest between us, but out of his own volition. I have to thank him for that because he could have invited someone else. So, we worked together peacefully. When I was nominated and after I won the elections in 2015, before handing over, I started seeing some elements of undercuts from his body language. He didn’t attend my swearing-in, he just handed over and left for Abuja because he claimed he had something to do. I said okay and went for the swearing-in. A night before he left, I went to him and I said during my campaign, I said that my administration will be a government of continuity. I told him that I want to retain the Secretary to the State Government. The SSG did not know, I was the one that told him. I told him that I want to retain the Accountant General. The DG Media is his friend, I told him I want to retain him, and I later made him a Permanent Secretary. The Press Secretary, I told him I want to retain him, so he phoned and told him. And then the four administrative staff in the office, I asked him ‘will you like to take some’, he said he was taking only one, the remaining three are still in my office. So, that was a symbol of continuity. Then it came to the appointment of commissioners and, of course, from his body language I had started seeing some elements of disagreements. So, I didn’t get his opinion on the appointment of the commissioners because I thought that was not even necessary because the commissioners are not as strong in government as SSG and the Accountant General. So, I thought it was something I could do. Even at that, my Commissioner for Agriculture now was also his Commissioner for Agriculture, we are still together; the Commissioner for Local Government is a younger brother to his wife, he was chairman of local government during his time; the Commissioner for Water Resources was an adviser in his government; the Commissioner for Finance was also Commissioner for Finance in his government. Like I said, I started seeing some elements of undercuts from his body language, and then he started attacking my administration. First, even before handing-over, he said he has paid all the contractors in Kano, but the contractors went to radio stations and said he was telling lies. You could see that he was trying to heat up the system even before handing-over. Some months before he left, he declared free education at all levels knowing well that it was clearly impossible. When he said free education, the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University said okay, the highest number of students in the university, ‘this is the figure please give us the money because since you declared free education what it means is that they will not pay single kobo.’ He said the VC should divide the figure into four that he will pay and the VC said no, ‘our budget is not based on that.’ Students in other universities were paying, and yet he said it was free education. And also, few weeks before he left, he was sending students in thousands abroad; some studying chemistry, geography, biology, engineering, medicine. And you know how much it is costing us so far because of the fall of the naira, he paid N4 billion on foreign scholarships. When we calculated, each foreign student will get N68,000 per month. It was a huge expenses considering our challenges occasioned by the drop in the prices of oil at the international market. In fact, some state governments returned their students from foreign universities because they couldn’t cope, but I didn’t return anybody. I’m still paying with tears. Again, he took pension money and built houses that up till now we are finding it very difficult to dispose off. We put N4.1 billion from the pension fund and the liability we have on the houses is over N3 billion. So, even if we sell the houses, we have to pay contractors. So, what I am trying to say is that even before handing-over, he was setting up some traps so that the government will be a failure. He even went to my senatorial district five days before my taking over and said he was establishing a Technical College of Education in one of the local governments. How can you establish a school like that without approval from the federal government, without any legislation from the State House of Assembly, without any infrastructure, no plans for teachers, no plans for equipment? He did this so that when I come, I will find problem on ground. After he left, I told the people that it was a story-telling because there is nothing on ground to establish a college of education. What I discovered later is that we have a Federal College of Education (Technical). The Provost told me that Kwankwaso told him he wanted to establish a college of education and he told him not to because we are not even filling our quota in the federal college. And then he wrote me a letter that I should not receive bailout. How could I have paid salary if I don’t? When the federal government thought we needed bailout, he wrote me a letter that I shouldn’t collect bailout knowing that he left a liability of over N300 billion. The Transition Committee was the one that gave that figure and then he started quarreling. He said why should the Transition Committee say he left a liability of over N300 billion. I told him this was released even before the handing over. I held a press conference and I said leaving a liability is not a crime. This government is a government of continuity and I will continue to forge ahead. But he was still pained that the Transition Committee said he left a liability of over N300 billion, but that was the fact. So, you find all these kinds of things, which I didn’t want to bring to the open until he decided to attack me. He even wrote in the letter that receiving loan from the federal government was not part of the Kwankwasiya policy. So I started to wonder, what is Kwankwasiya policy? Because I was the first person to put the Kwankwasiya structure on ground. He started using some members of Kano State House of Assembly against me, but God so kind, out of the 40 members, 35 of them are with us. Even at the federal level, most of the lawmakers are with us. The crux of the matter is that he wants to be remote-controlling me. How can I be remote-controlled by somebody outside the government? I was a civil servant at the state level after graduation and I got to level 17 at the federal level. I have been in politics for years. I was secretary to our party in my local government, assistant secretary of our party at the state level, commissioner for six years and deputy governor for eight years. For goodness sake, if you are talking about government, I should know what it is about. He would have been the luckiest former governor, I can assure you that because we’ve been nice to him. But it’s obvious he doesn’t want us to succeed. That is why he is not contributing anything in the Senate because he is concentrating on Kano. Sometimes, I wonder if in his dreams he still thinks he is the governor of Kano state. Instead of him to concentrate in the Senate by making laws, and being versatile on national and international issues and see how he can assist our democracy, he is dreaming of becoming the President of this country while he is quiet in the Senate. How can he rule this country? What ideas does he have?" Ganduje also said that he was open to reconciliation with the senator. Speaking on Kwankwaso's chances of becoming president in 2019, he said; "On 2019 elections, that is left to God. But personally, I wouldn’t mind for him to join another party, back a candidate that will contest against me. And if the constitution allows, I would even invite him to come and contest against me on a different platform to test his popularity. Politics is like that." https://politicsngr.com/quarrel-kwankwaso-started-wont-president-ganduje/

@POLITICSNGR A full transcript of Bola Tinubu's letter to president Muhammadu Buhari complaining about the interference of APC national chairman, John Oyegun, in his reconciliatory moves has emerged. Tinubu had on Wednesday in a letter, accused Oyegun of sabotaging his efforts to reconcile aggrieved APC members. The letter dated February 21, 2018, was addressed to President Buhari, copied to the Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Reps, Yakubu Dogara. The Letter, obtained by PoliticsNGR, read; “I trust that this letter finds you in good health and may that never change. I also hope that you are in an apt frame of mind to read this letter according to the spirit in which it is written and to derive apt counsel from it. Our party has travelled far in a brief time. To pull and mend the disparate legacy parties into one, we surmounted high obstacles that would have daunted others. To win the election, the then candidate Muhammadu Buhari had to campaign as never before and we, as a party, had to stare down great odds to win. We held firm to our principles and did not cast our eyes away from the progressive objectives that led us to form this party in the first instance. We kept faith with the best of our ideals and we matched noble ideals to strong effort. We won. Nigeria won. Sadly, some, who were entrusted with positions of high responsibility within the party seemed unable to handle the success given them. Little attention was tendered the principles upon which this party was formed and pursuant to which it was presented to the public as an alternative to the cynical politics of the PDP (Peoples Democratic Party). We were born as a party of internal democracy; but our internal institutions have been actively undermined or allowed to atrophy. The spirit of a new and better Nigeria that guided us to unprecedented electoral success has been steadily replaced by the bankrupt and rule-less ways that brought the PDP low. Since the election, there have been several reports of lack of openness and fairness which have led to internal crisis in some of our states. There have been allegations of self-induced crisis resulting from merchandising of internal processes. We all must agree that the party was bound to suffer growing pains but not to the extent of losing part of the substantial goodwill that brought us to power. However, that which concerns me has little to do with the manner by which the party is growing. What concerns me is the manner in which the crisis is developing that can lead to serious erosion of party cohesion and confidence. Were I alone in this concern, I would discount my observations as a sign of my own misperceptions or infirmity. However, I stand not alone in this worry. My grief is shared by so many party members that I would not be accused of exaggeration if I said substantial party leaders are worried about the course of our vessel. I believe it was from this sober concern that President Muhammadu Buhari recently appointed me to lead the consultation, reconciliation and confidence-building efforts in our party. Upon the appointment, I gave the President my word that I would work diligently and objectively to achieve the goal set before me. In this vein, my first port of call after receiving this assignment was our party’s National Secretariat to present myself before the National Working Committee (NWC), with you as one of its members by virtue of your position as Chairman of the party. During my interaction with the NWC, I enjoined its members to freely express their views concerning the state of the party at the national, state and local levels. I listened attentively to the views of every member of the NWC present. On your part, you promised unalloyed support for my mission. Consonant with that vow, you said you would provide all information at your disposal and you vowed to act as a liaison between me and the state party chapters. At that very meeting, I announced I had formally started the assignment handed me by President Buhari. I offered to keep you abreast of my work. I said that I wanted the NWC to be like an informal advisory council and sounding board to me in the discharge of this presidential mandate. Unfortunately, the spirit of understanding and of cooperative undertaking to revive the party seems not to have lived beyond the temporal confines of that meeting. I assure anyone who cares to know that this positive spirit of cooperation did not meet its demise at my hands. My position was and is that we can only restore the party by resolving its current deficiencies in an unbiased, neutral manner that allows us to strengthen our internal democracy by annealing those internal institutions and processes vital to such internal fairness. I stated this position then and still hold to it with all sincerity. Yet, disappointment greeted me when I discovered that you had swiftly acted in contravention of the spirit of our discussions. Instead of being a bulwark of support as promised, you positioned yourself in active opposition to the goal of resuscitating the progressive and democratic nature of the APC. As a party, we have strived to be the best, present hope for the nation. Yet, your goal appears to be something of a lesser pedigree. In our discussion, you personally mentioned Kogi, Kaduna, Kano and Adamawa States as places afflicted by serious party issues. Given your assessment, these were states where I believed cooperation between you and I should have been intense and detailed. Instead, you have taken it as your personal mission to thwart my presidential assignment in these key states. In Kogi, you rushed to the state to unilaterally inaugurate a new slate of state officials, parallel to the officials already heading the state chapter of the party. While this may place you in significant affinity with those parallel officials you handpicked, this machination suggests no improvement in the welfare of the party in Kogi or at the national level. This usurpation of authority exacerbates conflict and confusion; it does not resolve them. It is my understanding that your dissolution of the duly- constituted state executives and the hurried naming of the above-mentioned caretaker group was not approved by the NWC. This arrogation of power sets you at variance with members of the NWC as evidenced by National Publicity Secretary Malam Bolaji Abdullahi’s statement, condemning your improper and unusual action. You had let this situation fester for months on end. Only when I was appointed to help resolve internal disputes and when you realised I might focus early on Kogi, did you stir from your indifference and inaction. You could have wisely and prudently treated this matter beforehand. By waiting to the last moment, your unilateral action was implemented in haste and unbalanced in thought. By creating a parallel body, you not only acted improperly, you grew a second problem from the stem where previously there had sprouted but one. The Kaduna State chapter apparently has been troubled by disputes over who the party recognises as acting chairman for the state. The dispute has at times degenerated to the point where there purportedly has been demolition of property and the threat of violence. This eruptive state of affairs is a direct and proximate result of the inability of the party under your leadership to follow the dictates of the party constitution and regulations to arrive at a result that all may agree was rendered objectively, in harmony with the principles by which this party was founded. While everyone may not be pleased with the result, all contestants would acknowledge that the process had been fair and neutral. In this way, rancour is contained and reconciliation more easily achieved. Because this matter has been left to fester, positions have hardened and intrigue and animosity are more the authors of the day than unity, compromise and cooperation. It is always better to repair the crack before it becomes a hole and the hole before it becomes a gap. You did neither in this instance. Yet, you lifted not a finger to honour your vow to provide information and contacts to help me do this important repair. After my interaction with the NWC and given the urgency of the work needed to mend and heal the party, you should have presented the status reports on state party chapters as promised, and certainly without much delay. Your reportage is vital to my work. Your delay in not reporting on a single state chapter now delays and threatens my assignment. Mr. Chairman, I cannot overstate the imperatives of time in this regard just as I cannot overstate the need for cooperation and to work in accordance with the formal rules and ways of our party. Yet, something else is afoot and I must draw attention to it so that we can end the malpractice before it impairs the party and my assignment any further. Drawing from your behaviour in Kogi, Kaduna and with regard to the state chapter assessment requested, I am led to the inference that you have no intention of actually supporting my assignment. Instead, you apparently seek to undermine my mandate by engaging in dilatory tactics for the most part. When forced to act, you do so in an arbitrary and capricious manner, without the counsel of other NWC members and without regard to our internal procedures. You may have personal qualms with me. That is your right as a human being. However, you have no such right as the chairman of this party. This party belongs to all of its members. You have no greater claim on it than any of the rest of us. Whatever personal qualms you may have with me are secondary at this point. You have a moral and professional obligation as the party chairman to act in the party’s best interests. Your hurried and unilateral actions belie the important agency you hold for the party. Thus, in furtherance of the assignment given to me by President Buhari, I request that you make available to me the status reports and all other pertinent information regarding the state chapters without further delay. Also, to lessen animosity and return the party to the path of internal democracy and openness, I beg that you refrain from taking any more improper unilateral decisions with regard to the national and state chapters of the party. As the chairman of the party, you must work within the confines of the duties and responsibilities enumerated under the party constitution. You must not stretch beyond them. If you continue to do so, I fear you may undermine the party in no small degree. You may well cause internal fractures and dissension difficult to repair yet visible to all. I fear this can undermine our goodwill with the electorate and make the approaching challenges to the party materially more difficult than they need to be. As chairman of this party, you should not want this to be your legacy. As a member of this party from its inception, I don’t want this to happen to the party and I don’t want such an awful thing to be your legacy. https://politicsngr.com/breaking-full-text-tinubus-letter-buhari-emerges-read/

@POLITICSNGR Pan Yoruba Socio-cultural group, Afenifere has blamed the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) and its immediate past chairman, Attahiru Jega for the numerous cases of Underaged voters prevalent in the northern part of the country. National publicity secretary of the group, Yinka Odumakin to independent that it is surprising to see that children are allowed to vote in some sections of the country when the law of the country stipulates that anyone below the age of 18 is not eligible to vote. While also holding Jega responsible for the anomaly, Afenifere said in the build-up to the 2015 general election, while INEC under Jega’s leadership distributed the PVCs to individuals in the Southern part of the country, they allegedly handed them over to Emirs in the North, who in turn distributed them to everyone in their locality, including children. The group said urgent action must be taken to correct the anomaly or this could hamper the conduct of free and fair polls in 2019. https://politicsngr.com/afenifere-attacks-jega-blames-aged-voting/

@POLITICSNGR The Arewa Youths consultative forum has revealed what el-rufai must be made to do for destroying a building belonging to factional members of the APC in Kaduna. PoliticsNGR gathered that the group warned El-rufai to watch his actions, stating that the recent development threw the state into political crisis. In a statement signed by the president of the AYCF, Shettima Yerima, the group will not stand by and watch 'an individual's ambition destroy the state'. The statement read; “We note with deep concern that this is the second time el-Rufai will allow political intolerance to get the better of him. These, combined with his numerous unapologetic and hurtful public utterances are in no small measure harmful to the spirit of civil engagement in every democracy the world over. Nigeria and indeed the entire democratic world should hold el-Rufai responsible for any untoward incident resultant from his growing impatience and intolerance to opposition. “This time around, el-Rufai must be made to pay compensation for the destruction from his own account. It will not be acceptable for public funds to be used in settling his wanton destruction". https://politicsngr.com/destruction-apc-secretariat-will-el-rufai-northern-youths/ cc: lalasticlala, mynd44

@POLITICSNGR Governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom has revealed that he extended an invitation to President Buhari to come to Benue and console with victims of Fulani herdsmen attacks, but it wasn't honored. Speaking on a television programme last weekend, Ortom said that as president, it was Buhari's duty to provide citizens of the country with security but failed to take action to curb the killings. In his words; "We invited the president when we visited him in Abuja; that he should come to Benue state and extend his condolences to his people. Because we are members of the party, he is our president. If these people are attacking us, we expect him to give us security. He has done a number of things. He directed NEMA to provide relief materials, he also asked for security to be beefed up but I am not satisfied with what the presidency is doing on this matter. There is no doubt about that. I ask for justice for Benue people because we have not been treated fairly… These herdsmen militia even killed policemen. The herdmen have gone beyond grazing. It’s about taking over our lands. For now, my primary concern is to stop these killings; to ensure that the Internally Displaced Persons go back to their homes and live peacefully. Once that is done, we can talk about other things. I don’t care about what happens tomorrow. Even if I am not governor, I can stay back and fight for the right of my people. Ortom further stated that the attacks by herdsmen in the state are acts of vengeance for losing the 1804 Jihad. because Benue people stopped them from entering the state through Sokoto. "They are convening international conferences, issuing press releases and writing on social media and they have come out to say ‘look, in 1804 Jihad, it was Benue people who stopped them from penetrating from Sokoto to the sea. And this time around, they are not going to stop.’ They will make sure that the mobilise all Fulani men across the globe, especially from the West African sub-region to ensure that they acquire arms and come and invade and take over the land because they also said that Nigeria is the only land that God has given them, so no other person will supervene on this land except them. That it is their own land, they got this land by conquest and we have no business staying on this land. It is unbelievable. The statement is coming from Miyetti Allah." https://politicsngr.com/herdsmen-killings-buhari-ignored-invitation-benue-ortom/

@POLITICSNGR Nathaniel Peters, 28, was arrested near Abule Egba Fly Over by the operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command for robbery last Saturday after being caught with stolen items. The RRS officers stationed close to the bridge in response to a distress call by a lady who was robbed of her belongings and wounded around 5:00 a.m. in the area, noticed Peter running away from the area. PoliticsNGR learned that after a hot pursuit, he was arrested. The victim said Peters wasn’t the guy that robbed her but a laptop, two wrist watches and two handsets were recovered from him. After series of questioning, Peters opened up that he was coming from a nightclub somewhere around Ikeja where he had dispossessed drunk clubbers of the items. He added that he had been visiting nightclubs particularly those in Ikeja to break into parked vehicles and rob sleeping/drunk clubbers of their valuables. He said, ‘I have been in this business since 2016. My friend, Sheriff introduced me to it. We were both butchers at the Agege Abattoir. At a point, he ran away after absconding with his boss’s N170,000:00. I ran into him a few months later and he invited me to join him visiting nightclubs in the metropolis to rob clubbers. He told me it was very lucrative. I have discovered too that its better than my butcher job at Abattoir. He went further, ‘we start operations around 3:30 am when club activities are winding down and clubbers are beginning to doze off. We rob those standing alone, sleeping in the car and those that are drunk. We take valuables from clubbers. We break into cars too. When clubbers are drunk, they hardly feel our hands removing their valuable from their pockets and body’. ‘We have a style of removing their gold rings while they are asleep. We sell the valuables to a friend, who takes them to Ghana to resell. But now, I operate alone’, he added. https://politicsngr.com/butcher-caught-robbing-drunk-night-clubbers-ikeja-photos/
