The Sultan of Sokoto has blamed injustice in appointments and allocation of resources as the causes of crisis and disunity in the nation, PoliticsNGR has learned. Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar, who is also the President General of the supreme council for Islamic affairs made this statement on Wednesday at a collaborative interfaith peace and security capacity building workshop organized by the Nigerian army resource centre, NARC in Abuja. The sultan who was represented by the Executive secretary of the Abuja National mosque said that an all-inclusive government remains the solution to the myriads of problems facing the country. "When it comes to issue of dispensation of justice and equitable distribution of resources, that should be done without fear or favour, affection or ill will. You are not there yourself as a leader and because you have some encounters with a group of people, either a person or a group of persons in a particular area, you should not hold on to it so as not to extend justice to them. Allah says “do not allow your hatred of a particular group of people to make you decide not to extend justice to them. Whatever happens, you must extend the spirit of justice to them all without fear or favour, affection or ill-will. “This issue of justice goes down to whatever decision you are going to take, whether it’s against you or against your parents or against your own children or against your other relations, let alone saying you will not extend justice because you know somebody or because he is from your town. Justice must be based on fair and equitable distribution of assets to all." https://politicsngr.com/2017/11/09/lop-sided-appointments-responsible-disunity-nigeria-sultan-sokoto/

Unfortunately, 1 soldier paid the supreme price during the encounter, while 3 soldiers were wounded in action. Former minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has taken to Twitter to react to an allegation made by the Vice president, Yemi Osinbajo against Ex-president Goodluck Jonathan. Osinbajo at a conference on Friday said that before the 2015 elections, Jonathan doled out N100 billion and $295 million in cash within two weeks. This didn’t go down well with FFK who didn’t waste any time to debunk the report. He tweeted; “According to@ProfOsinbajo, @GEJonathan “doled out 100 billion naira and $290 million in 2 weeks just before the 2015 elections”. This is false. The VP has turned himself into a pernicious and unrepentant liar and a peddler of falsehood just for a tiny morsel at Buhari’s table.” https://politicsngr.com/2017/10/28/jonathan-n100-billion-allegation-fani-kayode-fires-osinbajo/ Cc: lalasticlala, mynd44 |

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has expressed his displeasure on the attitude of Christian leaders to the recent use of Sukuk bonds by the Nigerian government. Osinbajo, on Friday, while speaking at the Greater Nigeria pastors conference organized by Pastors, Wale Adefarasin and Yomi Kasali, also took an opportunity to express his thoughts on the alleged 'Islamization agenda'. He said; "Part of the problem is the failure of Christian leadership to take its rightful place. We focus our minds on something we call the Islamic agenda. We look for it everywhere as if we are looking for demons. But where is the Christian agenda? Are we not entitled to one? We are too divided as Christians to have an agenda. The key to the unity and progress of Nigeria is in the church." The VP also debunked reports of a plan to Islamize Nigeria through the country's membership of the Islamic development bank or Suku bonds. He explained further; “The Sukuk is an Islamic concept, which enables people to have access to credit. It is essentially like a bond. The US, UK, China, South Africa have all used the Sukuk. Once there is money in the market, let us not get sentimental. The most important thing is for us to use those monies well. Some people say there are some hidden things in this arrangement and that one day somebody is going to take us over. Where? How will that happen? These are straightforward financial systems used all over the world. I don’t think it presents any real problem. It is a very progressive financial system.Nigeria became a member of the Islamic Development Bank in 2005 and the first person to sit as director of the bank was Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. The second person to sit as a director is the current Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun, and both of them are Christians. So, when people talk about Islamic agenda, sometimes I am lost. The person who brought us into the bank is not a Fulani or Northerner, the person was a Christian, so why are we complaining? Nigeria is the fourth largest shareholder in the Islamic Bank. This wasn’t Buhari’s making. We must have facts before saying things. But above all, we must ask ourselves if being a member of the bank profits us or not." https://politicsngr.com/2017/10/28/islamization-nigeria-osinbajo-lampoons-christian-leaders-sukuk-bonds/ cc: lalasticlala, mynd44

The 4 Super Mushshak aircraft loaned to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) by the Pakistan Government, for the ab-initio flying training of its pilots at 401 Flying Training School Kaduna, have been returned to Pakistan. PoliticsNGR gathered that the disassembled aircraft were loaded aboard a cargo aircraft and flown out of the NAF Base Kaduna on 23 October 2017. The returned aircraft were temporarily made available by the Pakistan Government, at no extra cost to the NAF, for the commencement of training of its pilots in December 2016, prior to the delivery of the 10 trainer aircraft ordered by the NAF. With the now returned 4 Super Mushshak trainer aircraft, the NAF was able to train 4 Instructor Pilots and graduate 16 ab-initio student pilots, including 2 female pilots, at the 401 Flying Training School Kaduna. This has enhanced the ability of the NAF to train its pilots locally thereby helping to build the needed capacity to further prosecute the fight against insurgency in the North East. Having taken delivery of the first batch of 5 new trainer aircraft, there was no longer any need for the NAF to retain the 4 loaned Super Mushshak aircraft and hence, the return of the aircraft, in line with the agreement between the 2 parties. The NAF is expecting to receive the remaining 5 brand new Super Mushshak aircraft it had since ordered before the end of December 2017. https://politicsngr.com/2017/10/26/nigeria-returns-4-aircrafts-borrowed-pakistanphotos/

Below is an opinion article by the minister of Information, Lai Mohammed on IPOB and the agitations for secession; “If they fail to give us Biafra, Somalia will look like a paradise compared to what will happen to that ‘zoo’ (Nigeria).” These are the words of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the so-called Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). On Sept. 20, the Federal Government of Nigeria proscribed IPOB as a terrorist organization. I, as minister of Information and Culture and the spokesman of the government, call on our international partners to do the same. Whilst there is no internationally agreed definition of terrorism, many nations’ characterizations closely correlate. Basic to all of them is this: the calculated threat or use of violence to further a political, religious or ideological cause. Back to Nnamdi Kanu: “I don’t want peaceful actualization (of Biafra)”; “We need guns and we need bullets”; “If they don’t (give us Biafra), they will die.” Public announcement like these puts IPOB’s designation beyond doubt in most jurisdictions: they are a terrorist organization, as ETA was in Spain, the Tamil Tigers was in Sri Lanka, and the PKK is in Turkey (all of whom are proscribed by the U.S. State Department). But it is not for the sake of a label we level this appeal. Currently, streams of cash come from across the globe to swell the organization’s stockpile of weapons. Yet funding of terrorism is illegal in international law. Only with the group’s correct categorization will our international partners be able to halt the financing — and with it, IPOB’s future. The threat posed by the organization may be low. IPOB commands little grass-root support in the South East (the region it calls Biafra). All South-East governors have collectively condemned IPOB’s calls for secession. And local traditional and religious leaders have weighed into the debate, restating that absolute integrity of Nigeria. Violence, much less terrorism, never solves grievance. And for that reason, the overwhelming majority of residents in the South-East reject IPOB. They know the ballot box offers the best mechanism for redress. In spite of this, the latent threat is high. Boko Haram similarly had little support in the North East in 2009. They didn’t need it. Armed with terror and buoyed by government inaction, they seized large swathes of land. Inertia in Abuja lubricated the group’s advance. But now due to this government’s actions, Boko Haram hold no local districts. This administration shall not make the same mistake as the last. We will take the rapid, precise and necessary action required to deal with IPOB now. The government recognizes in IPOB’s lust for destruction a trait shared with Boko Haram. It also appreciates a qualitative difference in the threat. Unlike Boko Haram — a regional insurgency — IPOB breeds insecurity across the whole nation. In their divisive and inciting rhetoric, they jeopardize the very social fabric that binds us. Nigeria is a multicultural nation. Our strength lies in our diversity. The Igbo — the ethnic group that IPOB claim to represent — live in the South East, as they do in every zone across Nigeria alongside Hausa, Ijaw, Fulani, Yoruba and more. Each district makes up its own rich tapestry, with ethnicities and religions intermingling to form unique communities. IPOB’s public announcements endanger Igbos that reside outside the South East. In claiming to speak for the Igbo, they falsely represent the group. But the public may sometimes miss this distinction. And whilst the government has taken all measures to soothe tensions, rumor still takes hold. This is a terrorist tactic we have seen through history across the world. IPOB intend to drive a wedge between the Igbo and the rest of Nigeria. Grievance rooted in discrimination drives their recruitment — or so they think. They, therefore, manufacture it through stoking ethnic tension. This is the aim of IPOB’s rhetoric. The violence they have sown in the South East has the same intention. The attacks on police officers, army stations, local Hausa groups as well as the establishment of a national guard and secret service are all breeding uncertainty in the region. The timing of the violence is not coincidental: the Nigerian economy has just broken free of recession. Yet IPOB must generate grievance to fuel recruitment. Prosperity threatens the organization’s existence. And that is the heart of it: the terror lays bare their opportunism. They masquerade as a separatist movement, yet they endanger the very people they claim to represent. In reality, IPOB cares about IPOB and nothing more. Terrorism is often called the power of the weak. That IPOB indeed are. But if the last decade has taught us anything, it is how quickly the weak can become strong. The government reiterates its appeal to its international partners to proscribe the organization, and in doing so, starve it of the funds which gives it sustenance. Nigeria has just defeated one preventable terrorist insurgency. This one must not be given the chance to get a foothold. http://politicsngr.com/2017/10/13/ipob-weak-similar-boko-haram-lai-mohammed/

The Nigerian customs service has intercepted 27 Hilux vans illegally imported into the country. Below is a full transcript of a briefing on the matter by the Deputy comptroller general of the Nigerian customs, Aminu Dangaladima, obtained by PoliticsNGR; "On Wednesday 10th October 2017, based on credible intelligence, operatives of NCS Compliance Team went to two open car stands along Kubwa express-way in the Federal Capital Territory and evacuated 27 Toyota Hilux pick-up vehicles suspected to be smuggled into the Country. These vehicles have estimated duty paid value (DPV) of over N432,000,000 million. We urge the owners of these vehicles to come forward with valid Customs clearance documents otherwise they will be liable to Seizure and subsequent Forfeiture to the Federal Government in-line with laws of the land. You will recall that last month, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (Rtd) while briefing on interception of 18 exotic vehicles, 13 of which were bulletproof said that the Service under his leadership will enforce the powers given in the Customs and Excise Management Act (CEMA) effectively. For the avoidance of doubt, what we are doing is in-line with the provisions of Sections 147 of Customs and Excise Management Act (CEMA) Cap 45, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 (power to search premises), Section 158 of CEMA, Cap 45 Laws of Federation of Nigeria (power to patrol freely). It must also be understood that being in possession of smuggled items is an offence under Section 3 of Customs and Excise (special penal and other provision) Act Cap 47 Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004. Let me seize this opportunity to inform you that we are making progress on investigation in the illegal arms importation. More arrests have been made and the CGC will be on the entourage of Mr President to Turkey for sideline bilateral meeting with the Turkish Customs Authority. This is with the aim to permanently deal and put an end to such deadly importation coming from Turkey. NCS under the on-going reforms has continued to improve in all aspects, especially in the areas of suppression of smuggling. The idea that one can comply with laws of other countries and contravene Nigerian Laws on arrival here can no longer be tolerated. NCS will continue to contribute its quota to National economic development and security. Finally, let me commend the media for your continuous support. NCS appreciates and will always count on you to inform and educate the general public on the activities of the Nigeria Customs Service." http://politicsngr.com/2017/10/13/customs-intercept-27-hilux-vans-worth-n420-million-photos/ cc: lalasticlala, mynd44

He made these statements during the Inauguration of state and local government executives of the Abia state chapter of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo. He said; “We should forget Biafra and insist on restructuring,” adding, however, that no Igbo is happy with the situation of things in Nigeria, “we must seek for peaceful ways of resolving the issues.” He spoke further that the restoration of Biafra was a tall order due to the numerous constitutional roadblocks, finalizing by saying that the agitations will not be in the overall interest of Igbos and their political relationships with other regions of the country. He also advised youths, that in as much as they were protesting being marginalized, they should tone down the words and hate speech. http://politicsngr.com/2017/10/06/igbos-forget-biafra-focus-restructuring-ohanaeze/
