Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC has announced his withdrawal from contesting for another tenure as the party's leader, PoliticsNGR has learned.

Oyegun, on Friday evening, told newsmen at his Abuja residence;

"Even though I had the desire to re-contest as National Chairman of the Party, I have decided that it is ultimately in the best interest of the Party for me to withdraw from the race".

It will be recalled that Oyegun's problems began after his fallout with the National leader of the party, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

A former governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor Kalu has made a rather startling revelation on Camera, admitting that when he was a member of the former ruling party, they 'used' to kill people during periods of crisis.

He admitted that while he was a member of PDP, he was aware that politicians eliminated their rivals and other
electorates so they can secure their victory during elections.

Kalu who was governor from 1999 to 2007, defected to APC in November 2016. He disclosed this while
addressing journalists in Abuja during the South-East APC caucus meeting in Abuja yesterday May 31st.

He said this while reacting to the peaceful APC congress that took place in the South East recently.
''In any democracy, there is always a quarell. In PDP, we used to kill people when we are doing all this
things(congress) which is not good. People used to die'' he said.

Rochas Okorocha, Governor of Imo State, has revealed why some Political Officeholders 'must Steal' public funds.

In an interview with Channels TV, which has now gone viral on social media, Okorocha explained that “no man on earth” lives on his monthly pay, hence governors should not be exempted.

He argued that what is most important is for governors to make the people happy with their performance.

“What the people have failed to know is that… for God’s sake let them give targets. I am for targets,”

“If I give you target and you perform it, that is good enough. But if you keep searching for some level of corruption, that’s when it looks like it’s vindictive —because there is no man on earth, in Nigeria, from A to Z, who will say he lives with the money you pay him monthly.

“The salary of a Governor is N750,000/month. So if you don’t have a second office and you don’t have something else to do, you must steal; excuse me. Every political office holder who does not have a second office must steal.

“But if you give target, excuse me, you then perform your work, and people see the way you have done it and it is correct, they’re are fine. In Imo state now, people are happy with the performance; they are happy that their children are going to school without school fees, they are happy that they are no longer suffering... free education is there up to university; they’re happy.”

Information reaching the PoliticsNGR newsdesk on Monday morning reveals that a yet-to-be-identified young man is in critical condition after falling from a transmission line in Port-Harcourt, Rivers state in an attempt to kill himself.

The young man climbed the high tension transmission line in an attempt to commit suicide. Passerbys pleaded with him to come down with one even promising to give him a million naira, still, he refused and climbed higher.

Unfortunately, he got electrocuted shortly after and fell from the pole.

More information has emerged on ex-president, Olusegun Obasanjo's meeting with Pan-Yoruba organization, Afenifere in Akure, Ondo state last week.

PoliticsNGR learned that at the meeting with the leadership of the group, Obasanjo listed solid reasons why President Muhammadu Buhari must be stopped from securing another four years in office. Obasanjo pointed out that Buhari had consistently dodged the issue on Fulani Herdsmen were responsible for the death of several people in the country.

He disclosed that the President's body language towards the activities of the Herdsmen was making the job of security agencies difficult. According to Tribune, a source quoted Obasanjo as saying;

"He (Buhari) often speaks from both sides of the mouth on the issue of armed herdsmen killing of innocent citizens. At times, he would say the herdsmen are not Nigerians; that they are from Niger, Mali, Chad and other neighbouring countries.

In the same breath, the president would say we should learn to live and cope with our neighbours, talking of the Middle Belt groups and that the crisis is an internal matter.

At another time while in the United States, he said it was the fighters from Libya that were behind the killings. So, if the Nigerian military were to act, it will be against the position of the president. Therefore, the military had to be careful."

Obasanjo reportedly added that he had restrained himself from openly speaking on the activities of the herdsmen, apparently not to evoke any unnecessary passion.

According to information gotten from a witness, the white man has been harassing black south-Africans for a long time until he heckled two Nigerian Igbo men who wasted no time in dealing with him.

Minister for Transport and leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Rivers state, Rotimi Amaechi has revealed what he plans to do to Senator Magnus Abe.

Abe and Amaechi have been at loggerheads over Abe's ambition to become governor of Rivers state and the violence that rocked the APC ward congress in the state a few weeks ago.

Senator Ben Uwajumogu has accused the Governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha of hijacking officials of the APC Ward Congress on Saturday and keeping them in the Imo state Government house.

Uwajumogu, while speaking with newsmen, said that Okorocha had earlier suggested that the team of officials for Anambra state be sent to Imo while the team of officials for Imo state be sent to Anambra. He described the move as 'irregular'.

He went further to reveal that Okorocha 'hijacked' both teams and kept them in the government house until about 12 pm on Saturday. He added that the development angered members of the party in the state wh then proceeded to launch a protest.

Suspected assassins have killed an All Progressives Congress, APC Chairmanship candidate, Jeremiah Ogboveta in Delta state.

Ogboveta was until his death, the chairmanship candidate for Jeremi Ward III in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state. Security agencies revealed that the incident occurred earlier today.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Governor Rotimi Akeredolu were recently seen eating Bananas with Primary school students in Ondo state.

Osinbajo was in the state for a two-day visit for the launch of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) clinic. He visited Alagbaka Estate Primary School in Akure, the Ondo State capital on Friday, where he taught the pupils and also partook in meals with the students alongside Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State

He noted that the purpose of the homegrown feeding program was to ensure that children are fed with a good every day.

The Federal Government has revealed that 7. 6 million children are being fed daily under the National Home Grown School Feeding Program, (NHGSFP).

A magistrate court sitting in Abuja has granted bail to Senator Dino Melaye in the sum of 90 million naira and two sureties. Following the arraignment by the Nigeria police force, the senator appeared in court on a stretcher.

PoliticsNGR gathered that journalists were prevented from going into the court premises.

Armed policemen have taken over the court as there are rumours of a plot to re-arrest the ailing senator.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has filed fresh charges against Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd), former National Security Adviser, who is alleged of criminal diversion of funds to the tune of $2.1billion.
The money was part of funds earmarked by the Federal Government to fight Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast.

According to Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, counsel to the EFCC, the charge was amended to remove the second defendant and also to bring up fresh charges against the other defendants. With the amendment, the initial counts of 19 preferred against the defendants have increased to 32.

PoliticsNGR gathered that Dasuki is facing trial alongside Attahiru Bafarawa, a former governor of Sokoto State; his son, Sagir Bafarawa; a former Director of Finance and Administration in the Office of the NSA, Shuaibu Salisu; a former Minister of State for Finance, Bashir Yuguda as well as Sagir’s firm, Dalhatu Investment.

Other defendants in the matter had frantically sought to be separately tried, to ensure speedy determination of their cases, but eventually lost the bid at the Supreme Court on March 2, 2018, which decision ordered accelerated hearing, instead.

Consequently, the trial court, presided over by Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, fixed April 13, for a pre-trial conference, in other to ensure effective management of the two separate charges against Dasuki and other defendants.

At the resumed sitting today, Jacobs informed the court about the outcome of the conference and also told the court about the amended charge, urging the court to accept it.

His words: “In line with your Lordship's directive, we held the conference, except that the senior counsels for the defendants were not there. They sent their juniors to represent them.

“My Lord, their attitude is to oppose everything we seek to tender. We have served them the additional documents and we have also filed an amended charge dated and filed April 30, 2018.

“I urge my Lord to accept the amended charge and allow it”.

Jacobs further told the court that “one of the reasons for allowing it is that it tends to remove the second defendant and also there are additional counts to make them 32 counts”.

Dasuki’s counsel, Ahmed Raji, SAN, confirmed the receipt of the amended charge, urging the court to graciously avail the first defendant more time to enable them study the additional counts.

“I confirm that around 5:30pm on Monday, my office was served. Yesterday, there was no work, so this morning my attention was brought to it.
“I have not had the privilege of discussing the content with the first defendant. I scantly went through it and discovered that the counts are now almost double”, Raji said.

Justice Baba-Yusuf, thereafter, adjourned to May 16, 2018 for the former NSA and his co-accused to take their pleas on the amended charge.

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested one Felix Idowu, a real estate agent and a graduate of political science, for impersonating Ibrahim Magu, the anti-graft agency’s Acting Chairman.
Idowu had in the assumed capacity swindled unsuspecting victims of their hard earned income.

The suspect upon arrest was found with documents which had the signature of the EFCC boss forged.
Prior to his arrest, the EFCC received intelligence report that the suspect while posing as an operative of the EFCC requested for money in order ‘to kill’ a petition purportedly written against the complainant.

The EFCC swung into action by asking the complainant to play along while setting booby-trap for the suspect. In the process, Idowu was asked to liaise with the complainant’s personal assistant, who was an EFCC operative undercover. While interacting with the operative undercover, the suspect was lured to Exclusive Stores, Abuja, where he was arrested on Monday, April 30.

Upon search in his Lexus EX 350 car, a lot of documents were recovered including letter of investigation activities on a fake EFCC letter-head paper with ‘Ref No: CTGI/6/vol.1’ and a letter of petition written to EFCC with ‘EFCC stamp received’ bearing Magu's forged signature.

The suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.

The country home of the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia John Nwodo at Ukehe in Enugu State has been bombed.

It was reported that an improvised explosive device was thrown into his house by unknown persons.

The explosion was said to have destroyed part of his building, shattering windows and ceiling of his house.

The crisis between two factions of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Abia state has taken a new turn as Thugs attacked the secretariat last week leaving some party members with Injuries.

PoliticsNGR gathered that the crisis in the Abia state chapter of the party is between Orji Uzor Kalu and one chief Ikechi Emenike.

The attack, which led to at least two persons being seriously injured and currently fighting for their lives at a medical facility in umuahia, occurred around the ever busy Azikiwe road, umuahia where the state headquarters of APC is located.

Eyewitnesses reports indicate that trouble started after the group led by Kalu were holding their meeting at an event centre in Isi Court umuahia when they received reports that the Emenike led faction have broken into the party’s secretariat to hold their own meeting.

On receiving the information, thugs and cultists were mobilized to move to the secretariat and attack Emenike’s group with the intention of forcibly taking over the party’s secretariat.

A diplomatic crisis between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia is looming as Nigerian Pilgrims might be blocked from attending the 2018 Hajj spiritual exercise.

PoliticsNGR learned that Saudi Arabian authorities have threatened to block Nigerian pilgrims over the Lassa Fever Outbreak in the country.

Nigeria is one of the largest attendees of the Hajj as over 95,000 pilgrims visit the holy land of Mecca every year for the spiritual exercise.



The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) on Monday revealed that the Outbreak of Lassa fever in the country has raised serious concerns in the Arab country.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), 1081 suspected cases and 90 deaths have been reported from 18 states (Anambra, Bauchi, Benue, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Ekiti, Federal Capital Territory, Gombe, Imo, Kogi, Lagos, Nasarawa, Ondo, Osun, Plateau, Rivers, and Taraba) between January 1 through February 25 this year.

During the period, 317 cases have been classified as confirmed and eight as probable, including 72 deaths.

Confirming the incident, a spokesperson of NAHCON, Ubandawaki Mousa. revealed that the Nigerian authorities are not happy over the development.

He revealed that a meeting will be holding in the office of the Secretary general of the Federation(SGF) on Tuesday between officials from all 36 states, the commision and officials from the federal government.

It will be recalled that on 12th December, 2017, some suspected criminals/armed men invaded the Farm House of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC),

Mr Ibrahim Magu at Barkin Uza Karshi Area of Abuja, killing a Police Sergeant (Sgt Haruna Sarki) on guard duty and carted away Two (2) AK47 Rifles belonging to the Police personnel on duty.

2. Consequent on the aforementioned, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim K. Idris, NPM, mni directed the IGP Intelligence Response Team to carry out a discreet investigation into the invasion/attack, arrest and bring perpetrators to justice.

3. The above mentioned principal suspects were arrested by the Police team in their various criminal hideouts after an unrelenting trail on the perpetrators of the unfortunate incident by the personnel of the IGP Intelligence Response Team and the two (2) Police AK47 rifles carted away from the slain Police sergeant and one other Police personnel on duty were recovered from the possession of a member of the gang in his village home in Otukpo, Benue State.

4. Inalegwu Omikpa, 36yrs – He is the Gang leader who contacted Lance CPL Vincent Michael (a.k.a Romeo), having received information on the location from one of his gang members, Francis Ochife.

II. Francis Ochife, 38yrs – confessed to have discovered the location and informed their gang leader Inalegwu Omikpa for them to strike.

III. Dismissed NAF 12/26972 L/CPL Vincent Michael (aka Romeo) confessed to have recruited two other gang members currently in custody of the Nigerian Air Force. He was handed over to the Police by the Nigerian Air Force after being dismissed for the commission of other crimes.

He also confessed to the criminal role he played in the commission of the crime and led IRT operatives to Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State where Two (2) AK47 rifles were recovered from him.

IV. The other two (2) gang members are Air Force personnel currently facing disciplinary action with the Nigerian Air Force.

5. They have confessed to the various criminal roles they played in the commission of the crime. Investigation is ongoing to arrest other members of the gang still at large. All suspects would be arraigned in court on completion of investigation.

6. The renewed commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to guarantee protection of Lives and Property across the country remains unequivocal and unwavering.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that the invasion of the Senate was an official plot by the Federal Government to overthrow the Senate Leadership.

Governor Wike also declared that the Federal Government is still plotting to frame him, saying that the latest plan hatched by the Federal Government is for someone programmed by the Security Agencies to claim that he received $3million from the Rivers State Governor.

He spoke during 105th Annual Convention of the Nigerian Baptist Convention at Ndele, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State on Sunday.

The governor said: "They plotted to overthrow the leadership of the Senate, but they failed. What you saw was a horrible design to remove the senate leadership.

"If you know the Security architecture of the National Assembly, nobody can go in easily and leave easily without the gates being shut. These people enterred and left unchallenged.

"When the Senate gave the Police a 24hour ultimatum to find the mace, our Nigerian Police became so efficient that they traced the Mace to where it was left under the bridge"

The governor said it was unfortunate that the President went abroad to de-market the country by claiming that the youths are lazy.

He said no investor will invest his resources in a country where the youths lacks productive capacity.

Governor Wike called on Nigerians to work towards a new administration at the Federal level in 2019, noting that the collapse of national security, welfare and development are enough reasons for a change of direction.

"We are not looking for people who will give us excuses. Since they cannot work, they should allow those with capacity to take over in 2019" , he said.

In his sermon, President of Nigerian Baptist Convention, Rev Sampson Ayokunle directed all churches in Nigeria to process around their worship centres to call for the end of senseless killings in the country.

The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria said the procession will also serve as a call for the release of Leah Sharibu and the remaining Chibok girls held in captivity.

Rev Ayokunle decried the rate at which the Federal Government allow senseless killings to fester across the country.

Speaking further, he said that it was disheartening that persons without the requisite qualifications gain authority beyond their capacity. He said the governance process has been stagnated due to the lack of capacity.

Ayokunle called on Christians to actively participate in the forthcoming general election to ensure that a responsible government is enthroned in 2019.

Prayers were said for Nigeria, Rivers State and Governor Wike. The Nigerian Baptist Convention attracted thousands of Baptist Members to Ndele, Rivers State.

Former Presidential aide, Reno Omokri has reacted to President Muhammadu Buhari's recent comments that Nigerian youths are 'not ready to work' and are 'uneducated'.

Omokri, in a post on Social media, attacked the president stating that his own Education was 'dubious'. In his words;

"How can you in one breath say that your country's youth are lazy and don't want to work and in the next, you appeal to foreign investors to come and invest in Nigeria?

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC is set to invite a former governor of Kano state and serving senator, Rabiu Kwakwaso over allegations of money laundering and mismanagement of state funds during his tenure as governor.

Kwakwaso, a chieftain of the APC is expected to properly defend himself against this allegations. PoliticsNGR gathered that a dependable source within the EFCC said that the anti-graft commission is currently carrying out investigations into several petitions brought against the Senator in 2015.

Kwankwaso's invitation would be based on a petition brought before the commission and signed by one Barrister Mustapha Danjuma and co. on behalf of Engineer Abubakar Maisha’ani and Alhaji Najumai Garba Kobo.

In the petition dated May 27, 2015, Kwankwaso reportedly received contributions of N70 million from each of the 44 local government councils (totalling N3.08billion) towards his presidential primaries in 2015.

The source EFCC source revealed that investigations into this and other petitions were ongoing to trace where these funds were deposited.

Confirming the report, spokesman of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, revealed that the commission was investigating allegations against the Senator.

Deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu has opened up on yesterday's attack on the Senate by armed thugs allegedly sponsored by Delta senator, Ovie Omo-Agege.

Shortly after order was restored in the Senate on Wednesday, Ekweremadu said that in the “commotion” which arose from theft of the mace, two senators were almost abducted.

PoliticsNGR gathered that one of the senators, Solomon Adeola alias Yayi had already been abducted but managed to escape from his captors with but with a sprained ankle. The identity of the other senator was not revealed.

Nigeria was sent into panic mode on Wednesday when Senator Omo-Agege gained entrance into the upper legislative chamber, accompanied by thugs who forcefully stole the mace.

Speaking at a reconvened session after a spare mace had been provided, Ekweremadu thundered that the Senate would not be intimidated by threats to the National Assembly.

The House of representatives condemned the invasion of the Senate and issued an order to the IGP that the mace had to be returned within 24 hours. Deputy Speaker, Yussuf Lasun said;

"We are giving the inspector general of police and the director of the SSS (state security service), to recover our mace within 24 hours".

They described the invasion as a failed coup d’etat and an attack on democracy.

President Muhammadu Buhari has berated Nigerian youths for being 'uneducated' and 'not ready to work'.

President Buhari, while speaking during a panel discussion at the Commonwealth business forum in Westminster, London, expressed displeasure with youths in Nigeria because they were dependent on revenue from oil to survive.

He said the youths, who make up 60 percent of the population, were waiting to get social amenities free without doing anything.

"And then the economy. We have a very young population and our population is estimated conservatively to be 180 million. The 60 percent of the population is below the age of 30. A lot of them have not been to school and they are claiming that Nigeria has been an oil producing country and therefore they should sit and do nothing and get housing, healthcare and education free,"

The moderator had asked Buhari to give his final thoughts on the issues discussed. The President said he had fulfilled his campaign promises by improving on the nation’s security and the economy.
