Politics › Ex-cbn Chief, Kingsley Moghalu Declares Intention To Run For President In 2019 by aminulive(op): 3:08pm On Feb 12, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

A former Deputy Governor of the CBN, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, announced on Monday that he was consulting widely to run for the presidency in 2019.

Moghalu told political correspondents in Lagos that time had come for technocrats, intellectuals and experienced people to take power from Nigeria’s career politicians.

He said that he would not be deterred from joining the race, in spite of speculations that 2023 was the year slated for Igbos to have a shot at the presidency.

Moghalu argued that politics in Nigeria should be detribalised for Africa’s most populous nation to grow and take its rightful place in the comity of nations.

`It is the turn of any competent Nigerian to aspire for the post of presidency because career politicians have failed Nigeria.’’

He said that zoning, which had been used by the major political parties, might have been relevant in the past but that it was no longer necessary because competence should be placed above tribe in present day Nigeria.

“Zoning was an internal arrangement by political parties that was not constitutional. It should no longer matter where the president comes from.

“The future of Nigeria rests in technocratic interventions. We need thinking people that will take Nigeria from the politics of stomach infrastructure to politics of mental infrastructure.’’

The former CBN chief said that the first part to progress for Nigeria was for the people to begin to think differently and beyond tribe in choosing those who would lead them.

Speaking on a second term for President Muhammadu Buhari,  Moghalu said that the president had constitutional rights to seek re-election.

“I don’t fathom how anyone can say the president should not run for a second term. It is his choice, the decision on who becomes Nigeria’s president in 2019 rests with Nigerians. ‘’

On the nation’s economy, the economist pointed out that “the economy was in a delicate situation before the present administration.

“The handling of the forex crisis though was misguided. The drop in oil prices actually affected the value of our currency but government should have simply allowed the naira to find its true value which would have reduced the inflation rate.’’

He said that Nigeria must look beyond continued dependence on oil and encourage independent institutions to flourish.

Moghalu, however, advised Nigerians to eschew docility and become more forceful in demanding accountability from their leaders at all levels of governance.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Moghalu, who served as CBN deputy governor from 2009 to 2014, is a political economist, lawyer and a former United Nations official.

He was also a professor of practice in international business and public policy at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in Massachusetts, U.S.

Born on May 7, 1963, Moghalu is a graduate of the London School of Economics. He also read Political Science at the University of Nigeria Nsukka.

Politics › You Have No Right To Advise Buhari - Oshiomole Fires Obasanjo by aminulive(op): 8:40am On Feb 03, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

A former governor of Edo state, Adams Oshiomole has reacted to ex-president, Olusegun Obasanjo's letter to president Muhammadu Buhari, criticizing his performance as president so far.

Speaking in Aso rock on Friday after a meeting with President Buhari, Oshiomhole pointed out that Obasanjo lacked the right to advise Buhari, recalling that the former leader once told his erstwhile advisers that he was not bound to heed their advice.

"I’m not sure when I see the list of the advisers, that Obasanjo is one of the advisers. But I also recall with respect that the day Obasanjo was swearing in some of his advisers, he did say that anybody who is his adviser can advise him, he will make his own decisions. And I think that principle still stands,".

Oshiomole then reiterated his total support for Buhari's second term bid, adding that the government has done well.

"Let’s trace the route of poverty. It is not something that developed over the past few weeks or few years. If you review all your newspaper editorials from my days as president of the NLC, the challenge has been how do we ensure that the Nigerian economy work for the betterment of the majority of the people particularly the forgotten rural majority?

 I think people have to realize the amount of damage done by the previous governments. You know when people say no blame game, maybe yes, maybe no. But where I am come from, people say that it is only a fool who will be working on the road, get into a pothole and fall and then get up and continue the journey, go to the hospital and treat himself.

But a wise man must interrogate how and why did I fall? And maybe in the course of doing that, find that there is a pothole. The first and simple thing to do is to fill that pothole before you continue your journey and then go ahead and treat yourself.

Nigeria was below ground level and from what you guys reported that I read, we have always had challenges but never, in terms of scale, magnitude, what President Buhari inherited is difficult to describe. So, I have said so before that when you meet such a situation, your first task is to halt the drift. When you halt the drift, then you stabilize before you begin to go. There is no miracle about it.

 So, yes there are challenges. There are things we need to begin to do and reinforce but there is no question that a lot has begun and a lot is being done. There is no miracle in the life of a nation. So, the fact that the president has lean resources and huge debts that he inherited, and despite the cost of servicing those debts, the president insists that the poorest amongst us who are victims of these several years of misrule, that they must have something to give them a sense of belonging under the social programme which seeks to transfer cash of N5,000 and several other instruments that have been put in place, that is to recognise that they are really people who are so poor that N5,000 can make a difference. That recognition for me is important in a country where nobody has discussed this category of people before.

However, the challenge of getting that done is huge given the paucity of data. All the investments we have made in national identity card, you guys know how much previous governments have spent, trying to organise a national data without which really, you can’t deliver a couple of things because you need a database that is reliable to be able to identify who is poor, where is he located and how do we deliver something to him?

But for me, there is a commitment. I can see a heart that cares for the poor. But that doesn’t mean caring for the poor will make the poverty disappear overnight."

Politics › "Politicians Buy AK47, Weapons For Herdsmen" - Miyetti Allah by aminulive(op): 8:20am On Feb 03, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

President of the Miyetti Allah cattle breeders association, Bello Abdullahi Bodejo has revealed that politicians are responsible for purchasing sophisticated weaponry like AK-47s for Herdsmen.

Bodejo wondered how many farmers in Nigeria could afford to buy an Ak-47, adding that politicians take advantage of the clashes they have to fuel propaganda. He said in a recent interview with Sun;

"There is a long history of clashes between the Fulani and the farmers in this country. Almost about 50 years ago, the Fulani and the farmers have been having clashes but the clashes were usually settled between the local chiefs and Fulani leaders but now since the last eight years, everything has changed. What is happening in Nigeria today is not a normal clash between the Fulani and the farmers.

The whole thing has been politicized and politicians are getting involved in the problem. In 2014 during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, there were clashes in Benue, Plateau and Taraba states but the media did not sensationalise it like what is happening now. In the present case, people are using all kinds of propaganda. Anytime the nation wants to go into a general election to entrench a new government, people would start all kinds of propaganda.

When one or two people are killed now, they would carry propaganda like a whole village has been wiped off. Now, there is no farming in the bush but anything that happens, they say it is the Fulani and farmers. Before, both the farmers and the Fulani, if they had a problem in the bush, they could easily settle themselves but now politicians are involved and they are preaching so much hatred between the Fulani and the farmers.

The problem is that the Fulani do not have access to the media because many of them are in the bush rearing their cattle. If for instance, you want to call a Fulani in Benue to know what is happening to them there, it may not be possible because you do not have the number of anybody there in the bush.

But the media especially the social media, they always write one side of the story. There is no balance in the stories that are being pushed out and because the Fulani are not in control of the media, anything or crime can be imposed on them and the people would erroneously believe it.

The normal thing the media should do is if they hear the side of the farmers, they should also go and find the position of the Fulani. What is happening now is that some politicians who are finding it difficult to come back to power are causing the problem.

Ask yourself how many farmers can buy the AK47 rifles that they say the Fulani herdsmen carry about. Instead of finding a way to end the crisis, the politicians are using propaganda to escalate it. Every time, they say it is Fulani but if you go to other countries where the Fulani are herding their cattle, have you heard any killings that were caused by the Fulani?

They killed people in Taraba and they said it was the handiwork of the Fulani but the people who did it are not the Fulani. If there are such killings, the security authorities like the police should be contacted and they should be able to tell the truth. Like I said, they are stigmatizing us using the media because the Fulani do not have access to the media."

He also disclosed that most of the herdsmen arrested in recent weeks are not Fulani and that the politicians who bought AK-47 rifles for them are not Fulani. In his words;

"In the last two or three weeks, the police have arrested some people with AK47 rifles but those people are not Fulani. They are mentioning some politicians who are not Fulani for buying AK47 for them and I believe them because the poor cattle herders cannot buy AK 47."

Politics › Southerners Using Fulani Herdsmen To Divide North - Ango Abdullahi by aminulive(op): 8:10am On Feb 03, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

The spokesperson for the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Prof Ango Abdullahi, has described the herdsmen crises in the Middle Belt as a plot by the South to divide the monolithic north.

PoliticsNGR gathered that Abdullahi also dismissed the report on Restructuring by the APC, saying that it is the position of some party leaders and not Nigerians. In an interview with Sun, Abdullahi said;

"That is the bottom line. It is politically driven. We have been having herdsmen for over 200 years or 300 years ago in Nigeria, particularly we in the North. I haven’t seen how this crisis between farmers and herdsmen would lead to attacks and loss of lives.

This is a politically driven agenda, perhaps, intended to split the monolithic North; we have been talking about the monolithic North for a long time politically in this country.

I have been involved in debates against some respected people from the southern part of this country who believe that this country is not balanced because the North is too big; because the North is too politically united, so there must be a way of disrupting this unity, and this is what we are seeing on ground today, and the elements that are being used are the Fulani herdsmen.

This matter would be looked at properly; political alliances and so on are welcome. You don’t need to lose blood, or property to engage in political alliance or whatever you want, or still, you don’t need to introduce excuses that will lead to loss of lives. We saw this when the Boko Haram was on ground; they said the Northerners created the sect to disrupt former President Goodluck Jonathan’s government,  which led to his failure in the last election, and so on.

Now that Boko Haram is out of the way, the new excuse is the Fulani herdsmen.

This is what is happening in other places except in areas that you are talking. We have seen what they called a new handshake across the Niger; it is political, and we have seen the mourning that has taken place in Benue and other places to show that the northern North is not in tandem with the Middle Belt; it is all politics. Our Middle Belters don’t need to take the agenda that appears to be a thing of distrust. We are not going to force anybody into a relationship politically or otherwise. We see this as a political agenda."

Politics › 2019 Elections: CAN Is Mobilizing Christians To Vote Against Muslims - MURIC by aminulive(op): 7:43am On Jan 30, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

The Muslim rights concern group(MURIC) has lampooned the Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN) for religionizing politics as the 2019 general election draws closer.

In a statement made available to PoliticsNGR signed by its director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, the group made it known CAN was mobilizing Christians to vote against Muslim candidates in the Elections. The statement read;

"The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has begun subterranean mobilization of Christians in the country in preparation for the 2019 general elections. In CAN’s most recent election-related stunt, particularly on social media, Christians were instructed to shun Muslim candidates (especially President Muhammadu Buhari) and to vote massively for Christian candidates instead.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) condemns CAN’s resort to acrobatic religiosity in the political arena. It is parochial, pernicious, myopic and unpatriotic.

Politicisation of religion will not take us anywhere in this country. It is to the glory of our gymnastic religiousity that we are clever devils today. In spite of the proliferation of churches and mosques on our streets, our paradoxical criminality has no equal under the sun. Is this the time to dig deeper into religious zealotry by indulging in religious politics?

MURIC calls on Nigerians to reject CAN’s attempt to drag Nigeria into the abyss of another religious crisis over the 2019 general elections. It is crude, naïve and infantile. We urge citizens not to allow excellence to be sacrificed on the altar of mediocrity. Serious nations focus on result-oriented criteria like credibility, pedigree, ability to deliver, high-level patriotism, farsightedness, and industry. Nigeria should be the issue, not primordial sentiments like religion and ethnicity.

MURIC’s advice to Nigerian Muslims: Don’t vote for religion. Shun ethnic blindness. Afterall, many of those who corruptly enriched themselves are Muslim politicians. Vote according to your conscience. Those who stole billions of naira from the public treasury did not think of their Muslim brothers when they were stealing. They were driven by egocentricity, not by their love for Islam. If a Christian candidate has the right qualities, vote for him. This is about Nigeria, not about the mosque. We will cross our bridges when we get to them.

In a nutshell, we urge responsible Christians all over the country to ignore CAN’s pernicious and tortuous propaganda of ‘Christians vote for Christians’. Nigerian Muslims should vote for candidates trusted for delivery of the dividends of democracy, not for religion. Looters who try to deceive Nigerians in 2019 will have themselves to blame if Muslims, Christians, and traditionalists can come together to shun corrupt elements in society during the 2019 elections. Imams, pastors, and priests should publicly rain curses on looters to keep them at bay."

Politics › "Buhari's Government Has Failed" - Tunde Bakare Says, Denies Joining Third Force by aminulive(op): 8:34am On Jan 29, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

Fiery Lagos preacher, Tunde Bakare has described the Government of President Muhammadu Buhari as a 'Failure', PoliticsNGR has learned.

In an interview with a Television station in Lagos last night, Bakare disclosed that the Federal government has failed in meeting up to the expectations of many Nigerians, highlighting the incessant killings by Fulani Herdsmen in the North, especially in Benue state.

He also condemned the Burning of Chief Olu Falae's farm by the herdsmen, describing it as 'wicked'. The Latter rain assembly general Overseer also weighed in on the recent letter written by ex-president, Olusegun Obasanjo to President Buhari, advising him to bury any plan of recontesting in 2019. Bakare said that it was the president's constitutional right to contest, adding that getting the support of the people was a 'different kettle of fish'.

"It’s his fundamental constitutional right to run or not to run but whether it would now be accepted in the way it was accepted before…He came as military Head of State, he has come as civilian president, Jesus himself is only coming twice".

He, however, denied joining any third force party;

"I’ve not joined any Third Force. I’ve not been part of any force. At the right time, we will know what to do because what I see now is what I can envision in the days to come, it’s that this chicken that you see, they are about to eat, they are on intestine

Most of these people don’t really care about the development of the government of our nation. They seek power for self, not for service.

This is why it hurts me deep, that such crisis will hit Benue state and the leadership of the nation will not move there, go there. Rather, they invited them to come to Abuja.

The most painful to me was that an American leader would not do that; the British leader would not do that; who are the ones we are emulating. You are not a king, you are a servant of the people and you are to to know that you really are serving the interest of your people.

The Inspector General of Police showed up and he said it’s communal clash. he even said that before he got there! In a decent nation, he would have been fired by now."

Politics › South Must Push For Referendum Before 2019 - Annkio Briggs by aminulive(op): 8:22am On Jan 29, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

Spokesperson of the Ijaw Republic Assembly(IRA) and Human rights activist, Annkio Briggs has called on the peoples of Southern Nigeria to push for a Referendum before the 2019 elections.

Brigga in a recent interview pointed out that this the only way Southerners could remain in Nigeria. She said;

"There is nothing about Nigeria that can worry me. It is good for us. The moment you are convinced about something, you must take a position that that thing can favour you. I have no disagreement with any Niger Delta group that is for the good of the Niger Delta and I should be part of it. It is better late than nothing at all.

They said Boko Haram had been technically defeated and afterwards they came back to life again. Their flag was handed over to Buhari in the Villa and they were also decimated. What are we talking about? If these are the same people that government is releasing $1billion to fight, even the UN said it was the kick-off amount to clean up Ogoni oil spill. First, that money is coming from the Niger Delta and you want to use it to fight an organisation that you said was small and was defeated. I think that money is for an election.

Secondly, if PANDEF presented a 16-point agenda, I said what we want is the restructuring of Nigeria. Take any agency, including NDDC, Ministry of Niger Delta or Niger Basin, but give us our Niger Delta. If you said you want to fight Boko Haram and you do not want to carry out the simple demands of the people who own the money you want to use on Boko Haram, then you are going to cause problems. Why do you think it will go on like that? The issue of Chibok girls was a creation against the Niger Delta. Restructuring gives us the opportunity as Nigeria to stay together as a people. Not just the APC that has said there would be no restructuring, the northern governors and the elites have also said that they will never accept restructuring. If they have said that, then we have nothing else to discuss.

I had said it long ago that there was a grand plan to Islamise Nigeria. Since these things are now playing out as planned, then we have to come to terms with the reality. Buhari has a sectional drive for himself and his people. What is left for us is for the Yorubas, Igbos, Itsekiris, Urhobos, Niger Delta people to push for a referendum before the 2019 elections. The referendum must be accepted based on ethnic nationalities.

We must ask ourselves whether we want to remain in Nigeria or not. If we agree or we don’t agree, we still need to sit down and talk. I believe in my position because it will be good for my people. We are not at war, yet we are asking for peace. We are not at war, yet people are walking on foot from the far north to the south armed. This we must do before the election. Imagine these people burning down Chief Olu Falae’s farm. Why him? Why not burn down Obasanjo’s own farm? The Fulanis are good at instigating situations. By attacking Olu Falae, they are instigating the Afenifere and the Yoruba nation. Somebody like Obasanjo is seen working with them. Falae is very critical of them. They have attacked him severally. Why?"

Politics › 2019: Why We Won't Support Buhari For Second Term - Yoruba Youths by aminulive(op): 8:04am On Jan 29, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

The Yoruba youth Council has highlighted several reasons why it would not be endorsing President Muhammadu Buhari for President in 2019.

The group distanced itself from a planned Yoruba youth Rally in support of the President's Second term Bid. Lopsided appointments, Fulani Herdsmen killings, Economic hardship were among the reasons listed by the group.

In a statement obtained by PoliticsNGR signed by the leader of the group, Oluwole Eric and its Publicity Secretary, Lekan Shobowale, YYC denied any involvement with the planned rally. The statement read;

"It has come to our notice that a group known as Yoruba Progressive People’s Congress, an arm of a political party (name withheld) led by one Pelumi Amodu is by no means a representative of Yoruba Youth Council or working for YYC.

The group in its own wisdom endorsed and called for a nationwide rally in the name of Yoruba Youths as an aftermath of the letter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to President Muhammadu Buhari.We at the Yoruba Youth Council hereby dissociate ourselves from this plan.

We all know this is not a good time for such rally with unmitigated attendance of killings, mass destruction of properties as well as disregard to the principle of federal character through lopsided federal appointment among other reasons.

We view this act as only a means by the organizer to deceive Mr. President and scoop monetary gains at the expense of ever dynamic and resourceful Yoruba Youths."

Politics › How Buhari's Second Term Will Destroy Tinubu, Break-up Nigeria - Senator Ayu by aminulive(op): 2:24pm On Jan 27, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

A third republic senator, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu has warned Nigerians against voting president Muhammadu Buhari into power in 2019, PoliticsNGR has gathered.

Ayu, an old-time politician, says that Buhari winning second term will consume the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu and break-up the country. He told Sun;

"I am not a member of APC. At a point when Obasanjo was destabilizing the PDP which I was a founding member, a number of us left . We joined hands with Tinubu to form Action Congress (AC). We were developing that party with him until it became Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN)."

"I talked to my friend Tinubu, we are very close . I told him that we need to develop the progressive party in Nigeria. He didn’t believe me,  he preferred to go and link up with the most right wing group in the North . And that right wing group was headed by Buhari in the name of CPC . At that point I left the party and came back to the PDP. I have known Gen. Buhari when he was the military Head of State, I was a university lecturer then. I know the tyranny that was visited on this country."

"I refused to be part of that team . I warned Tinubu that he will regret bringing Buhari and imposing him on the party. I believe he is regretting silently without telling Nigerians . But more is to be expected. I am sorry to say that if Buhari is re-elected in 2019, it will not only consume Tinubu , it will consume so many other people. It may even lead to the disintegration of Nigeria."

Politics › Call Your NSA To Order- Niger Delta Stakeholders Tell Buhari,protest In PH(PICS) by aminulive(op): 4:24pm On Jan 26, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

Below is a statement made available to PoliticsNGR by the Niger Delta Amnesty Vendors Forum;

Niger Delta Amnesty Vendors' Forum in collaboration with Coalition of Niger Delta Ex-agitators/Justice for the Abandoned Youths of Nigeria, today marched through major streets in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to call the National Security Adviser, Gen. Mongonu to stop interfering with the day to day administration of the Presidential Amnesty Office in the interest of peace in the Niger Delta region.

Briefing newsmen at the end of the massive rally which started from the beginning of Ada-George road to terminate at Agip round about by Ikwerri road, President of the Niger Delta Amnesty Vendors' Forum, Tari Okosi and Coordinator of the Coalition for Niger Delta Ex-agitators/Justice for the Abandoned Youths of Nigeria, Comrade Okpakariari Eferebo lamented how the National Security Adviser has shut down the Amnesty Office, warning that the interference of the NSA could trigger fresh simultaneous violent protests across the region.

They called on the President to use his good offices to intervene before the issue gets out of hands. Meanwhile, the groups have expressed fears that the National Security Adviser may be playing out a prepared script from politicians who are bent on derailing the President’s new vision for the Niger Delta region.

In a swift reaction to the unfolding developments at the Presidential Amnesty Office, Coordinator of the Patriotic Niger Deltans for Good Governance, Comrade Adonba Amgbare, pointed out that the ongoing undue interference from the National Security Adviser to the President has come to the people of the Niger Delta region not as a surprise, judging from the recent provocative statements from some persons in the north.

According to him, the current reported actions of the National Security Adviser against the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme may invalidate all the milestones of the present administration in achieving sustainable peace in the Niger Delta region, saying that the people of the area are satisfied with what the Presidential Amnesty Office under Gen. Paul Boroh (Rtd) is doing in the region.

Politics › Buhari Pursuing 'supremacist Agenda' Using Cattle Colonies - Ben Nwabueze by aminulive(op): 8:42am On Jan 24, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

An Elder statesman, Ben Nwabueze has weighed in on the recent proposition of Cattle Colonies by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Nwabueze says that President Buhari is using the 'Cattle Colony' idea to pursue a Fulani Supremacy agenda. He warned that establishing these colonies will aggravate the Farmer/herdsmen crisis.

In a statement released on Tuesday in Enugu, titled 'President Buhari should not lure us into the deadly trap of establishing cattle colonies for Fulani herdsmen in every state of the federation', Nwabueze said that the proposition was basically settling Fulani Herdsmen in all parts of the country, warning that there would be serious political and religious implications.

"In considering the religious implications of establishing cattle colonies in every state of the federation, it is necessary to recall to mind what Sheikh Gumi wrote about Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto.

According to Gumi, the Sardauna’s well-known agenda of consolidating and perpetuating the idea of Northern Nigeria as one united entity “was not borne out of political consideration only,” but was also conceived as “a personal mission” handed down to him by his forebear, Sheikh Dan Fodio.

The agenda had an accompanying ideology whose object, as articulated by the Sardauna, is to maintain Northern Nigeria as a theocracy ruled by a Muslim claiming to be divinely directed, with utter disdain for democracy, and with the Sharia as the supreme governing law; the non-Muslim minority ethnic groups in the North are to be used as “willing tools” and the South is to be subjugated and reduced to “a conquered territory,” which is not to be allowed to “have control over their future.”

The Sarduana had conceived a kind of jihad, for the pursuit and possible accomplishment of his agenda, an agenda which President Buhari has now vowed to carry on to a finish."

He continued further;

"Thus was Hausaland together with other conquered lands, Islamised, and a caliphate established over Sokoto, with Dan Fodio as its Sultan. That was the price the Hausa paid for their hospitality in granting access to grazing land to the Fulani immigrant settlers".

Politics › Mike Ozekhome Reacts To Obasanjo's Letter To Buhari by aminulive(op): 8:18am On Jan 24, 2018
Foremost Lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome has reacted to President Olusegun Obasanjo's letter to President Muhammadu Buhari urging him not to seek re-election in 2019.

Ozekhome said that even if the president is given 20 years, he will still fail to do anything reasonable in the lives of Nigerians.

Obasanjo's 13-page letter on Tuesday upset the Nigerian political atmosphere as he criticized the President and warned him against re-contesting in 2019. Ozekhome thanked the Elder statesman for releasing the letter and discouraging Buhari from vying for the country's number one seat again. In his words;

"Even if you give Buhari another 20 years, he will only take Nigeria backward more and more. It is better to save Nigeria from him.That is why some of his supporters in the ruling party are backing off because they have realized that he’s a wrong horse to back.

Some APC governors are still playing the proverbial ostrich, saying this man is doing well even when they know that he is not doing well.So, I totally agree with Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. Indeed his call is coming too late."

Politics › Obasanjo's Letter is Justified, Buhari should not re-contest - Junaid Mohammed by aminulive(op): 8:08am On Jan 24, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

Dr. Junaid Mohammed has reacted to the viral bombshell letter written to President Muhammadu Buhari by Elder statesman and former president, Olusegun Obasanjo.

Mohammed, a second republic senator maintained that President Muhammadu Buhari's administration has failed and will continue to fail. He pointed out that nothing good will come out of the president's government.

Chief Obasanjo, on Tuesday, wrote a lengthy letter criticizing President Buhari's government and giving reasons why Buhari should not re-contest in 2019.

He also criticized the two most prominent parties in the country saying that he "will gladly join such a Movement when one is established as Coalition for Nigeria, CN, taking Nigeria to the height God has created it to be. From now on, the Nigeria eagle must continue to soar and fly high."

Reacting to this, Junaid told newsmen, “I think Obasanjo’s letter is justified. President Buhari is not in good health and therefore should not contest.

“His government is also surrounded by nepotism and Obasanjo pointed that out to him.

“I believe strongly that no government will based on nepotism and will succeed. This government has failed and from all indication, they will continue to fail.”

Politics › Michael Jonathan Asemota And Abike Dabiri Meet After He Returned N150m In Qatar by aminulive(op): 5:09pm On Jan 17, 2018
Dabiri Meets Nigerian In Qatar Who Returned N150m Wrongfully Paid To Him

Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora has hailed a Nigerian, Michael Jonathan Asemota a.k.a Teddy for his sincerity and honesty in returning QR1,502,000 ($441,127.99) about N150 million wrongfully posted into his account in Qatar.

In a statement by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Special Assistant on Media to Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa stated that the SSA gave the commendation when she received Mr. Michael Asemota in her office on Wednesday in Abuja.

The SSA said that such a rare display of honesty and sincerity from a Nigerian in the Diaspora has given the country a facelift as well as other Nigerians living in Qatar.

She urged Asemota to continue to be a good ambassador of Nigeria and implore other Nigerians in the Diaspora to emulate the positive image he has given to Nigeria in Qatar .

`` With this exceptional act of honesty, you have become a positive image for Nigerians and Nigeria in Qatar in the midst of bad news tag against Nigerians in the Diaspora.

``We are truly proud of you and urge you to continue to extol the virtues and strength of the Nigerian heritage of honesty, integrity and honour. Your shinning beacon serves as inspiration to the Youth of Nigeria’’, Dabiri-Erewa stated in a letter of commendation personally signed by her and given to Asemota.

Michael Asemota, a native of Edo state but based in Doha, Qatar, had opened an account with a cheque of QR150, 200 with an undisclosed commercial bank, where he is the sole signatory of the account.

Narrating his experience to the SSA during the courtesy call in Abuja, ``as i got back home, I received an alert showing that a QR1,502,000 had been credited into my account by mistake instead of QR150,200.

“I went to see the manager to report the error of QR1, 502,000 deposited into my account. After checking for confirmation, the manager gave me a warm handshake in appreciation.”

Asked why he alerted the bank about the error, Asemota said:“I knew the money did not belong to me and shouldn’t be in my account in the first place, so there were no motives and temptations to keep it.”

He advised people faced with similar situations to ”immediately notify their bank to avoid any potential problems as the bank will eventually trace their mistake back to your account and withdraw the mistakenly deposited money.”

He said the singular act has given Nigeria and Nigerians positive image in Qatar in the midst of bad stories of Nigeria emanating from the country.

Asemota is an official of Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation-Qatar (NIDO-Qatar), the umbrella body of Nigerian residents in the country.

Politics › Don Wani: Wike Climbed On Dead Bodies To Get Into Power - APC by aminulive(op): 4:50pm On Jan 17, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

The All Progressives Congress, APC, Rivers State Chapter said the party is pleased that, in Gov. Nyesom Wike’s  usual copycat style decided to visit the bereaved families in ONELGA several days after former Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi had visited the area and commiserated with the people over the killing of their loved ones, adding that “at least, it is not a crime to copy someone who is naturally ahead of you.”

The APC in a statement made available to PoliticsNGR, signed by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Chris Finebone, condemned what the opposition party described as the “huge joke” governor Wike made during his visit to the effect that APC in Rivers State has enlisted the support of supposed criminals he earlier declared wanted. We have no reason to be worried when a weird character engages in an equally bizarre joke.

The statement reads in part: “It is possible that governor Wike does not see the right picture each time he is in front of a mirror. If he does, then he will at least, acknowledge that he, and not the APC or Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, that believe in triumphing in electoral contests chiefly through spilling of blood. We believe that Nigerians, including the respected Prof. Itsay Sagay who described Nyesom Wike as having climbed on dead bodies to become governor know that much. Need we stress that further?

“We are convinced that governor Wike only went to ONELGA to make a huge show because his point man, Johnson Igwedibia alias Don Wani is dead. Why did Gov. Wike not visit ONELGA when the likes of late Chief Christopher Adube, Ward 4 Chairman, late Franklin Obi, Hon. Monday Eleanya and other APC members were gruesomely murdered and beheaded by Don Wani and his gang over the years?

“It is important to make it abundantly clear that there are overwhelming pieces of evidence in public space and hopefully with security agencies confirming that the governor and his party (PDP) commissioned Don Wani to kill APC members in the ONELGA axis. They go beyond the photographs the governor and his key allies appear in with Don Wani.

“As a party, we understand what is happening to governor Wike over his ONELGA burst bubble. The day Wike’s equivalent of Don Wani in the Yeghe axis meets his waterloo, the governor will also visit Bori, gather victims of the Yeghe killer and make donations of blood money to them.

“The message of the APC to governor Wike is that every game comes to an end, one way or the other. The way his game has ended in ONELGA is the same way it will end in Yeghe and elsewhere in Rivers State. Trying to drag APC into the fray is manifestly disingenuous and sheer waste of valuable time. The APC will never subscribe to anything else than zero tolerance for criminality in all aspects of its engagement with the people. Our leaders respect human life, they do not threaten death to anyone like the governor does at the slightest opportunity. We, unlike the PDP, have no business with criminals. Hope the governor gets it.”

Politics › Fuel Subsidy Return: There Is A Bigger Fraud Being Perpetrated - Saraki by aminulive(op): 4:25pm On Jan 17, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

President of the Nigerian Senate, Bukola Saraki has reacted to the Fuel Scarcity rocking the nation and the return of Fuel Subsidy.

In a statement obtained by PoliticsNGR via his Social media page, Saraki disclosed that an investigation is ongoing into the Subsidy issue and the Scarcity crisis.

He also pointed out that a Bigger fraud was going on under the Subsidy scheme, revealing that "the amount of PMS that is allegedly coming into Nigeria cannot be consumed by Nigerians. We consume about 27 million litres a day, while it has been alleged that 40 million litres a day of PMS is being brought in. There is a discrepancy somewhere." The statement read;

"Today, the Senate debated the interim report of the Senate Committee on Downstream Petroleum on the Fuel Scarcity Crisis in the country.

This interim report stirred up a debate on the Floor about the ongoing scarcity, the subsidy regime and ways to make the oil and gas sector more efficient.

I spent a lot of time on this fuel subsidy issue during the Seventh Senate (2011 to 2015). It was my Motion that brought this topic to the national discourse — hence, it is something that I know a lot about.

There are three issues here that we need to separate:

The first is, even as we speak now, there are still queues. The issue of the ongoing scarcity is one problem that the Committee needs to go back to look into so that Nigerians can be reassured that this will not reoccur.

The second problem is that the subsidy is important, however, based on the figures that have been presented, it is clear that there is a bigger fraud that is being perpetrated. This is because the amount of PMS that is allegedly coming into Nigeria cannot be consumed by Nigerians. We consume about 27 million litres a day, while it has been alleged that 40 million litres a day of PMS is being brought in. There is a discrepancy somewhere.

At the end of the day, it is Nigerians that are paying for this subsidy fraud because it is not transparent, and it is only being run by one MDA.

The third problem has to do with the principle of MDAs incurring expenditures without the necessary approval by the legislature.

Therefore, in order to get to the bottom of these pressing issues, we will be breaking them up:

-The issue of the subsidy and how it came about; as well as the issue of the scarcity that is still ongoing and the fraud of the volumes will go back to the Downstream Committee for a more comprehensive report;

-While, the issue of unauthorized public spending in the sector will be looked into by the Public Accounts Committee."

Business › Innoson Fails To Show Up In Lagos Court For Case With EFCC by aminulive(op): 3:59pm On Jan 17, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

Innocent Chukwuma, Chairman, Innoson Motors Nigeria Limited, on Wednesday failed to make an appearance at an Ikeja High Court for his arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges of fraud and stealing.

PoliticsNGR learnt that Chukwuma was to be arraigned alongside his company, Innoson Motors Limited, and Charles Chukwuma.

The defendants, however, failed to appear for their scheduled arraignment to the consternation of the anti-graft agency.

Mr U. Onwukwe, the counsel to the defendants told the court that he had filed an application challenging the jurisdiction of the court to hear the case.

“We have an application objecting to the jurisdiction of this court and it was filed on Jan. 15.

“My client has not been served, when this matter was filed, the EFCC went to social media, and it was through social media that we became aware and we have not been served.

“The EFCC arrested them and they know where they reside, they granted the second defendant (Innocent Chukwuma) bail on self recognition.

He said he was told to come to EFCC office on Feb. 20, and in December, they went ahead to file these charges.

“Charles Chukwuma,who is the third defendant in the charge, was not even arrested by the EFCC,” Onwukwe said.

Interjecting, counsel to the EFCC, Miss Zainab Ettu, claimed that the automobile businessman and his co-defendants were evading service.

“The most important thing is for us to proceed to trial; the defendants are on administrative bail.

“As diligent citizens of the country, when they were aware of the charges they are to come to the EFCC office with their counsel and receive a copy of the charge.

“In order to frustrate the trial, they did not come to court but rather filed a frivolous application; they have been evading service.

“The person they are trying to protect is the second defendant who thinks he is too mighty to come to court; the defence counsel is shielding his client.

“My Lord, we will be asking for the shortest possible date since they are evading service, so that we can serve them in the courtroom,” the EFCC prosecutor said.

The presiding judge, Justice Mojisola Dada, asked the EFCC to pass an advance copy of the charge to Onwukwe as a form of service.

Onwukwe, however, objected by saying that he could not accept the advance copy of the charge as a form of service to the defendants.

“Put the copy of the charge on the table if he refuses to accept it,” the judge ordered.

The defendants were to be arraigned on a four-count charge of conspiracy to obtain property by false pretenses, obtaining property by false pretenses, stealing and forgery.

According to charge sheet, the defendants committed the offences between 2009 and July 2011, in Lagos.

The EFCC alleges that defendants, with intent to defraud, conspired to obtain by false pretenses containers of motorcycle, spare parts and raw materials, property of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), from Mitsui OSK Lines Limited, Apapa, Lagos.

The defendants are alleged to have fraudulently induced staff of Mitsui OSK and Maersk Line to deliver to them via their clearing agents.

The goods were imported from China in the name of GTB and the defendants are accused of falsely pretending that they were authorised by the bank to clear the goods.

The prosecution claims that the defendants, in order to facilitate the fraud, forged a bill of lading numbered 598286020 of Maersk Line Limited and 11007950841 of Mutsui O.S.K Lines.

The alleged forgery was in order that the forged documents be used or acted upon as genuine, to the prejudice of any person within Lagos or elsewhere.

The offences, according to the EFCC, are in contravention of Sections 1(1)(b), 1(3), and 8(a) of the Advanced Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act 2016 and Sections 309(9), 388, 465 and 467(1)(j) of the Criminal Code of Lagos State 2003.

Justice Dada adjourned the case until Feb. 9 for possible arraignment.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has reacted to the various killings going on around the country, particularly in Benue and Taraba states.

Dogara cried out that the country was being painted 'Red' with Blood. In his address to Lawmakers on resumption from the Christmas/New year break, the speaker condemned the violence in Benue, Kaduna, Taraba, Zamfara, Adamawa and Rivers state. He said;

"Indeed, at no time in the recent past has the nation’s peace and unity been so vigorously and persistently challenged. This, however, is the real test for true leadership.

Our dear country is now being painted red with the blood of the innocents on account of unremitting bedlam callously promoted by cold-hearted merchants of death.

At these moments of intense outpouring of grief across the nation, it is important that we shun buck-passing and accept responsibility for these wanton killings without which we will never find a solution to this evil."

Crime › Don Wani's Boys Regrouping To Cause Mayhem In Omoku, Egbema - Police by aminulive(op): 4:47pm On Jan 09, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

The Police Command in Rivers says “boys” of late Johnson Igwedibia, aka Don Waney, are regrouping to cause more mayhem in Omoku, Ogba/Ndoni/Egbema Local Government Area and its environs.

The command’s Spokesman, Nnamdi Omoni, disclosed this in Port Harcourt on Tuesday while speaking to newsmen.

He revealed that intelligence reports showed that the “boys” were regrouping for further killings of innocent persons.

The late Igwedibia, a cultist and terror, had on Jan. 1 killed 23 persons that were returning from crossover night church service in Omoku.

He was equally shot and killed on Jan. 7 at his hideout in Enugu.

Gov. Nysom Wike had in a  state broadcast on Tuesday morning charged the command to fish out notorious criminals in Rivers and bring them to justice.

Omoni, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the police would “go underground” as well as intensify intelligence gathering to arrest notorious criminals in Rivers.

He appealed to the public to assist the police with meaningful information that could lead to the arrest of criminals in their communities.

“The public should be security conscious and at alert on what is going on in their environment,” Omoni said.

The spokesman said the numerical strength of anti-terror, anti-kidnapping, anti-cultism and anti-robbery units deployed to Omoku in the wake of the Omoku massacre would not be reduced until the community became safe.

Travel › 491 Libyan Returnees Land In Port-harcourt (photos) by aminulive(op): 11:31am On Jan 08, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

Officials of the Federal and Rivers State Governments on Sunday received 491 Libyan returnees at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa.

While the Federal Government delegation was led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, the Secretary of the Rivers State Government, Sir Kenneth Kobani led the delegation of the state government.

The team that received the 491 returnees included Immigration officials, NEMA staff, NAPTIP, military personnel and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Speaking at the reception for the returnees, the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Sir Kenneth Kobani stated that the programme was strictly a programme of the Federal Government.

He thanked the President for the effort in bringing back stranded Nigerians who have suffered indignity in Libya.

He said: "As a state government, we had no choice really. Let me say that the Rivers State Governor made it clear to me that we should do everything possible to make sure that this exercise is handled smoothly and that the Rivers State Government would do everything in its power to assist the Federal agencies handling this programme.

"Because above everything else, we are all Nigerians and this programme is a clear indication that when Nigerians work together, we can achieve anything.

"What you are seeing here today clearly shows that our governor and indeed the President feel same about this issue."

The Secretary to the Rivers State Government noted that when issues concerning Nigeria are brought to the fore, everyone must come together to stop the enslavement of Nigerians.

"On behalf of the Rivers State Governor, His Excellency, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, I will like to thank President Muhammadu Buhari, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and his team who worked tirelessly to make the return of our brothers and sisters home".

Also speaking, Geoffrey Onyeama, Foreign Affairs Minister , said that there were stories of the exploitation and suffering of the stranded Nigerians which compelled the Federal Government to act decisively.

He said: "We made it clear to the Libyan Government that we want to see all Nigerians there.We insisted that we should see all of them. Instead of hearing from them. We made it clear that they (Libyans) are signatories to international conventions and we expected them to have control of those who guard our children.

"They cooperated with us. It was because of the respect for Mr President.

There were people who were making money from these children and did not want them to return home. We carried out a rigorious outreach to ensure that we have everybody back."

He said the programme is an ongoing process that will continue till all the stranded Nigerians return home.

He said: " The Libyan government has got the message that as far as they are Nigerians, there is zero tolerance from this government for this type of molestation."

All the returnees were profiled at the designated booths at the airport.

Politics › We Support Buhari's Plan To Subsidize Fuel - APC by aminulive(op): 9:38am On Jan 08, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

The All Progressives Congress, APC has declared its support for the President's move to subsidize fuel following the recent fuel scarcity rocking the country.

Speaking with Guardian, the party's national publicity secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party believes the development is in the 'best interest' of Nigerians adding that 'tough decisions eventually have to be made'. The statement read;

"The thing is that these are tough choices that government would have to make. Either choice you make comes with its own costs, either economic or political. At the end of the day, the government has to take the best decision in the interest of the people.The issue of subsidy became a problem in the previous regime because of the corruption associated with it.

If you followed the conversation around January 2012 on the removal of fuel subsidy, you would have realized that Nigerians were opposed to the action at the time. They kicked against it because people were making money out of it to the detriment of the nation. It was the fraudulent implementation of subsidy that Nigerians were fundamentally opposed to, and not the subsidy itself.

So the decision to retain subsidy, we believe, is in the overall interest of Nigerians. It is to also ensure we don’t put unnecessary burden on our people".

Politics › Benue, Rivers, Kaduna Massacre: David Mark Condemns Killings by aminulive(op): 9:53pm On Jan 03, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

Former President of the Senate, Senator David Mark has taken stock of the renewed violent attacks in Benue, Rivers and Kaduna States and called for an urgent and strategic approach to halt further tragedies.

Senator Mark condemned the attacks on defenseless citizens in Benue, Rivers and Kaduna states saying "this pogrom is reprehensible, barbaric and inhuman".

Scores of worshippers in Omoku, Rivers State were murdered in cold blood, about 50 assassinated in a Benue farming community while a traditional ruler and his household were gruesomely hacked to death in Southern Kaduna on a New Year day.

Senator Mark lamented the unabating anarchy across the land and urged security operatives to rise up to the challenges and curb the menace.

He called for working synergy between and among security operatives to combat the worrisome situation.

Senator Mark condoled with the governments and people of Benue, Rivers and Kaduna States over the heinous crimes and asked them to step up measures needed to protect lives and property.

A worried Senator Mark said: "No matter the anger in a man's mind, resorting to violence or taking another person's life can only aggravate the situation. There are enough channels of mediation including the courts and the legislature to address perceived or alleged misdemeanor.

"Nobody has a right to take another man's life needlessly. The law must take its course and perpetrators must not go unpunished. This lawlessness must not continue. Security operatives must do the needful to fish out the perpetrators.

"Nigeria is a nation govern by law. Every citizen is a stake holder and everyone has a right to life.

"Our governments must stand up for the people. Enough of this malady. We deserve to live in peace in our fatherland".

Mr John Odekina, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi, says former Kano State Governor, Sen. Rabi’u Kwankwaso remains the only credible alternative in the 2019 presidential election.

Odekina who made the assertion in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja, said Kwankwaso has the capacity to rescue Nigeria from current economic dislocation.

According to him, the former governor possesses “administrative ingenuity” and has the potentials to provide answers to pressing national questions.
“As a former governor of Kano, he turned around the state into one of the richest states in Africa with the policy of inclusiveness.

“Kwankwaso should be given opportunity by Nigerians to turn around the economy into the best in Africa,’’ he said.

Odekina expressed optimism that the Senator would address problems of critical infrastructure including provision of stable power in the country.

“He has the vision and leadership qualities to make the dreams and expectations of the Nigerian masses realistic,” Odekina added.

It will be recalled that Kwankwaso had contested in the last APC primaries that produced President Muhammadu Buhari as candidate ahead of the 2015 elections.
