Continue supporting her no matter what and she'll always remember you and what you did. |
One thing that vexes me is that these journalists are our brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, uncles, aunties, cousins, in-laws, friends, colleagues, associates, and what have you. In short, products of the same society we live in. ![]() |
Maybe some villagers with nasty excremental issues founded six "shot-put" locations that began to overflow with a terribly overwhelming putridity that the whole village had to declare a code red. |
Tell her not to worry, and to have faith in God. My experience was much worse and it was only by His grace that I overcame it. I used to be fearful and grew up being full of fear; like they say, old (and ingrained habits) die hard. Many people talk about confidence and at the same time seem to forget that each of us are individuals and as such, different strokes for different folks. After trying out lots of stuff - including many of the suggestions proffered on this thread - and observing others, I confirmed that some things are easier said than done. The following are my tips. She needs friends and family like you who would neither judge nor mock her. First and foremost, she should pray with all sincerity, faith, and contriteness. She should also realize that it is the world, and should then say NO to this rotten world. Perhaps she and her friends can also try to make jokes out of the situation as this may help ease the burden and see this matter as conquerable. One of my friends used to joke that I used to somersault - it was that bad and at times I would just look at the floor searching for a crevice where I could enter and disappear from familiar eyes. She probably feels that others are worth more than her, and there lies the pure diamond - humility. The Holy Bible is full of accounts of people who were disregarded by men but highly valued by The Divine, for instance, Moses, David, and even Jesus. Remember also that Moses was truly humble, did not value himself so much, and had something with his speech. Another plus is that from her humble state, she probably sees farther than many of those around her and is not materialistic. To me there are some situations one encounters that one would not hesitate to give all possessions just to be free. Furthermore, she should not act like Adam and Eve who did not take responsibility for their actions, looked for excuses and someone/something to blame, and instead act like David who turned to God for mercy and favor. There is a book written by Don Miguel Ruiz (you can check him out on facebook or www.miguelruiz.com) that may be of help, "The Four Agreements". It describes 4 steps than an individual can make with himself and in a particular order. They are: (1) Be impeccable with your word. (2) Don't take anything personally. (3) Don't make assumptions. (4) Always do your best. She should not give up, and ought to continue trusting in His Mercy. Take action with faith. NB: to those advocating "dutch courage", watch what comes out of you to avoid acting like the serpent and tempt one to sin. |
@globalsys7, please engage in some due diligence before posting. Jos plateau is the site of many volcanoes that have not erupted in a long while. Also, do you know of Biu plateau? Why insist that there are no volcanoes in Nigeria when Cameroon, our next-door neighbour, has active ones by our border. http://www.volcanolive.com/nigeria.html Besides, by what metrics do you use to ascribe Vanguard and Sun as 'mediocre'? My advice is that we should wait for perhaps another day for pictorial verification by journalists, scientists and the FG, and yourself if you are willing to go there on behalf of all interested parties (inclusive of NLders). |
For those whose feet are too quick to spread doubt, see http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/woalert_read.php?cid=28428 And for those criticizing the picture on the Sun newspaper, my guess is that it was probably put there to give unfamiliar readers an idea of what such volcanic activities may look like. Also, earth tremors were felt sometime in the eighties and somewhere in the southwestern region of Nigeria. There is no need to condemn the journalists. Besides, we do not know how accessible the affected region is by land; neither do I know of any media house that gets its own aerial photographs. We also do not know about the standard of living and lifestyles over there and as such ought to refrain from making assumptions that a lot of the inhabitants should have mobile phones and mobile phones with cameras for that matter. Just think of this, which telecommunications company would want to set up masts in mountainous areas with a population that might be viewed as not much to be commercially viable? Please note that I am assuming that the volcanic activity, if true, occurred in a mountainous region. Another point is that a combination of 'difficult' terrain and inadequate telecommunications coverage can stand in the way of journalists' timely access to the site and their feedback to their respective media houses. Those of us reading this and who followed the 1999 and 2007 elections should try to remember how long it took for election results to be collated from certain areas due to similar factors. All I am saying is that we should avoid making assumptions so as to avoid judging blindly and foolishly. Time will tell whether or not this volcanic eruption story is true or not. |
Perhaps there should be a concerted effort to pay taxes and avoid tax evasion/avoidance. |
1forall, I would like to know why I can't delete/modify posts anymore. I noticed this when I tried modifying a recent post of mine in this "Jobs/Vacancies" section. Thank you. |
During my interview at AGDC, I was asked for my preferences with regard to the BAT Functions and I replied, stating Corporate Strategy & Planning (under Business Services) as my first choice and Finance as my second. However, when I got a call from Adecco/AGDC the following week requesting for those same preferences, my first choice was not listed, despite my objection, so I had to settle for an impromptu option, Operations. |
Hi All, I just thought these rankings from www.nationmaster.com would be interesting to my fellow NairaLanders. http://www.nationmaster.com/country/ni/Top-Rankings http://www.nationmaster.com/country/ni/Bottom-Rankings You might be interested in comparisons with other countries like that of the US. Peace. |
@heaters007, try logging on to BAT's career website. Perhaps that would help. |
lwise: Ibro Yaya:Why judge Wole Soyinka based on the obviously limited information you have let yourself come across. Wole is one man who does not just speak but takes action as well. His "James Bond" like actions in the past as a youth have been well documented. If you open your eyes you will see that he is still active. In addition, he is not like many Nigerians who have opted to become bastards and abandon their country. |
Wallie:@Wallie, it was not my intention to be demeaning toward your comment or your person. My reaction stemmed from your use of "middle ages" and "didn't evolve. I am of the opinion that all languages evolve, isolated or not, and that even isolated ones may take longer to evolve - if you know of any that has never evolved and are willing to share the info, I'll be grateful. I am not an expert on languages, neither have I taken time to look at the subject. Also, I was trying to get you to consider that perhaps the IC yoruba people you referred to may not be too comfortable with the remark. We all have our points of view, and I respect yours. So, can we let this pass, and continue to express our admiration of the Yoruba language? @Tewmuch, there's no need. |
Wallie:@Wallie, your reasoning seems to be indicative of someone with a supremacist point of view. How can you arrive at such? Don't you think those who you refer to like that would find that insulting and condescending? To me, this is how the "white" colonialists treated us like savages. |
where is the STARTIMES website o! Haba |
Pls I would appreciate some help in figuring out if Startimes works with digital TV signals. I also want to know if a NTSC tv can work with Startimes. Thanks. not sure if this is the appropriate section for this post |
Quite rib-tickling and at the same time freakish, the contributions from Nigeria to this world. Some are: (1) Those 911 monstrous vehicles responsible for many fatal accidents in Nigeria, and the 9/11 or September 11 blasts. (2) SARS for Special Anti Robbery Squad, and the virulent Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome a.k.a. SARS. (3) DO PA (Yoruba) with the associated sexual arousal, and dopamine (dopa + amine) also associated with sexual arousal. Makes me wonder if there is or will soon be any related to NEPA, LASTMA, 419, etc. |
Since the white man reached this part of the world and colonized us, we have witnessed the erosion of our culture. One glaring evidence is the disappearing festivals and masquerades. Fortunately, our womenfolk have boldly taken up the challenge and come to the rescue by dressing as masquerades everyday with the various facial costumes that come in layers and even tower up to many floors/levels. They lay foundations and then apply different concoctions/colourants on top that make me wonder if the various patterns are the source of inspiration for our various fabrics like "ankara". They also complement these masks with hair extensions and wigs the way the white people experiment with the coating/fur of their pets, dogs and cats included. It was only of recent that I started appreciating the bravery of our women. Thumbs up! NB: While schooling in California last year an Indian school official suggested that I cut my hair - skin cut - so as to be accepted by my classmates and the immediate and predominantly (like 95%) white society. Black hair is regarded as inferior by many peoples all over the world. |
Ok, now that you have restored my posting privileges, what happened to the first topic I posted here which was wrongfully described as spam? Just so you know, I'm an international student ambassador at my graduate college. |
Why blame the british for the supposed misnomer? The insect that eats the vegetable lives within the vegetable and besides the Brits left since 1960. |
@buchio7, thanks for your response as I had "feared" attracting some sort of abusive comments. To me, it is from DNA evidence we can get a credible information about how the various ethnic groups in Nigeria got here. @Andre Uweh, some people from your region have claimed that one of Ibo or Igbo (I cannot recall which in particular) refers to the people and the other refers to the language. I really would like to know the right word so as to avoid unconsciously offending them. |
