Acting Governor of Adamawa State Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has
emerged the Peoples Democratic Party Candidate where he
defeated his rivals by scoring a total of 624 votes while his closest
rival former Executive Secretary of Universal Basic Education Dr.
Ahmed Modibbo scored 197 votes.
The primaries which started on Saturday afternoon lasted
throughout the night and was concluded around 4:00am on
Sunday.
Former military administrator of Lagos and Borno states, Gen.
Buba Marwa, who was the second runner up in the contest, scored
a distant 54 votes, Dr. Umar Ardo scored 9 votes and Jerry
Kumdisi scored 4 votes while 25 votes were invalidated.
During his victory speech, the acting Governor thanked the
delegates for voting him while he urged his rivals in the contest to
rally round him for the party to emerge victorious in the October
11, 2014
poll.

Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi said
yesterday that those who killed and maimed
people and destroy property during the holy
month of Ramadan are not Muslims and urged
true adherents of Islam to unite and fight
terrorism.
Governor Amaechi spoke yesterday while
addressing the Muslim community in Port
Harcourt as part of activities to celebrate the
Eid-el-Fitri.
The governor, who was represented by his
deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, urged Muslims in the
country to use the occasion to unite against
terrorists and other extremists who hide under
Islam to perpetrate violence, thereby bringing the
religion to disrepute.
“It amazes me that people commit evil even in
the holy month. The month of Ramadan is a
sacred month. It is a month of fasting and
sacrifice, totally committed to honouring Allah. If
indeed the things they say they are doing are for
Allah, in that holy month they would have
respected Allah. The fact that they did it and
desecrated the holy month clearly shows that
they are not fighting for the religion,” he said.
The governor thanked members of the Muslim
community in the state for their support and
promised to pursue policies that will engender
peaceful co-existence in the state.

The leader of the Islamic Movement in
Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, has
accused the authorities in Abuja of killing
three of his sons and 32 others during a
procession in Zaria.
Sheikh Zakzaky who made the
allegations after the Eid prayer at
Husainiyyah baqiyyatullah, Zaria, said his
three sons where shot to death by one
Brigadier-General S. Okuh.
Meanwhile, the cleric’s three sons were
buried yesterday at Shuhada graveyard,
along Dembo Village in Zaria.
El-Zakzaky was speaking on the backdrop
of the current wave of killings in northern
Nigeria, saying that the Quds Day
shooting clearly indicated where the
orders came from.
“There is nothing like a religious group
taking up arms in Nigeria as they are
trying to make us believe. On our own
part, they came in broad daylight in their
military uniforms, fully armed with
military inscriptions on their vehicles and
committed arson and murder. From this
you will understand those killing innocent
citizens either in Birnin Gwari forest or
Zamfara and other places,” he said.
According to the Sheikh, it is
unbelievable that sporadic killings were
going with a democratically elected
government claiming to be ignorant of
the issue.
“There is nothing like Boko Haram killing
people; we cannot be fooled. Those in
authority are the sole authors of the
atrocities,” he added.
Commenting on how his sons were
targeted, Zakzaky said: “As they targeted
my sons for arrest, in the process they
killed one, Mahmoud, whom they shot in
the abdomen and he died. They also
arrested three others, Ahmad, Hamid and
Ali. Through a link, we demanded them
to release them to us, but the
Commandant of the Basawa military
barracks said he would not release them
but rather will take them to ABU
Teaching Hospital, Shika, for medication.
They were in good condition when they
were arrested. As they were boarding
them into the vehicle, he shot Ahmad
three times and threw him into the
vehicle.
“He was alive and talking, then, they
broke his arms and legs. They started
beating Ali, and while Hamid was trying
to protect him, they turned to Hamid and
stabbed him several times with knives,
even on his head. Ahmad was already
dead, but Hamid was still telling them
words and they shot Ali on his legs.
When they realized that Hamid was still
talking, they continued stabbing him with
knife until they made sure he was dead
before they reached the hospital. The
name of the person who shot them was
Brigadier-General S. Okuh; he is the C.O.
Engineer of Bassawa.
“When I demanded the release of my
sons through the GOC 1 Mechanised
Division, Okuh said he would release
them, but not alive. By Allah’s infinite
mercy, Ali is alive, he saw how his
brothers were brutally murdered before
his eyes. He is presently receiving
medical attention, as a result of
compound fracture on his leg, from the
several shootings on his leg.
“When this happened, people really
sympathised with me without the usual
display of difference instilled in them.
This is another calamity they brought
among the Muslims. They created groups
fighting one another on the basis of sect,
but with this nasty event the idea was
eradicated completely. We received
several condolences from the
government circle and even past leader.
