All what you guys are saying is off topic. The Imam preached last week that we the people of Yola should not run but rather stop and defend ourselves from boko boys which the government of goodluck failed to tackle. The riot started today when we gathered to perform Jum@ prayer and some people claimed that the district head of yola North have saked the Imam we started defending ourselves from clueless jona-daft supporters we are tired of all this we can not be slaves in our father land goodluck and his boko boys should note that. |

Politics / The Helicopters That Evacuated CDS Badeh’s Family From Mubi by amsad19(m): 8:06am On Nov 09, 2014 |
It has been reported that few hours before the attack, helicopters flew in and evacuated his family members from the town Mubi, the biggest commercial town in Adamawa state, was thrown into chaos the day Boko Haram descended on it and the people found themselves running for their lives. The terrorists shot sporadically, killing a lot of people while those who could escape jumped into any available car to run to safety. Christians, Muslims, Igbos, Yorubas, Tivs, Hausas and any tribe or religion, jumped onto any vehicle that was headed outside the town. Soldiers scampered onto trucks with civilians, begging to be saved, hundreds of people who could not get a vehicle ran into the hills. In their frantic effort to stay alive, no one paid attention to anybody’s religion or ethnicity before asking them for help or helping them to stay alive. It was a community of people, united by their desire to escape the common enemy that hunted them all without discrimination. Ethnicity and religion vanished, all they were left with was their humanity. Those climbing the hills stayed together, helping one another stay on their feet as they all tried to survive. The most interesting part of the narrative is that the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Badeh is from the same town of Mubi. It has been reported that few hours before the attack, helicopters flew in and evacuated his family members from the town. The chief of Defence staff by the way, is the most senior military officer in Nigeria and he controls the army, navy and air force. Before that sad day, someone from Mubi would have boasted that the Chief of Defence Staff is from their home town. But on the day that it mattered the most, he evacuated only his family members and abandoned everyone else to their fate. It means he had information of the impending attack and as the most senior military commander, he did not fly into the town to lead his men in battle to defend the community. He quietly saved only his family and left even the soldiers without an inspiring commander to motivate them to engage the terrorists and defend the town. One lesson all Nigerians must learn from this story is that as a people, all we have is our neighbours. When you need some help at home, you knock on the door of your neighbour. The president, governor, senator or minister is not there to help you. Why then should you continue to fight your neighbour because of a man or woman who cares only about his own family? Our elites may deceive us about sharing the same religion or ethnicity with us, but time and again, they have proven that they do not care. We have been fools, killing one another on the basis of religion and ethnicity while they stay united across all the divides and plunder our wealth. The time has come for us to rise, educate one another and unite to fight our common enemy. The politicians are our enemies and not the poor struggling men and women in our neighbourhoods. What now will the people of Mubi boast about as the gain of having their son as the chief of Defence Staff? If you go to Otueke where Jonathan comes from, there are many people who live in excruciating poverty! There is still a lot of poverty and suffering in the home towns of all our governors, ministers, parliamentarians and former presidents, while they and their families live in scandalous affluence. The minister of petroleum spent over 10 billion Naira on a private jet. That money can end the poverty of several communities in her state. Stella Oduah bought two cars with 225million Naira while there are people in her home town who can’t afford 500 Naira to feed their family in a day. The time to throw away the sentiments is now! Support only a man or woman who has a just heart and will serve everyone and every community regardless of if they come from there or not. The moment anyone begins to talk to you about religion or ethnicity, reject him summarily! We need leaders who will unite us because our shared humanity is greater than any differences between us. And if someone does something wrong or fails in governance, do not support them simply because they’re your own. Share the message, teach those around you and brace up for a citizens action to root out bad governance, defeat terrorism and build a better society for everyone of us. We have hope and we must not lose that hope. We can turn around our country, all we need to do is unite our voices and raise them against the evil system that has enslaved us for so long. Our adversity, especially the insurgency, has taught us who our real enemies are. Get ready to answer when you hear the call. 2 Likes

Politics / Playing Politics, While The North-east Burns by amsad19(m): 8:57am On Nov 01, 2014 |
Undoubtedly, we are in the most challenging and convoluted period in our history as a sovereign and independent nation. Certain existential social realities have not only become intractable, but have dwarfed meaningful efforts designed to address them head on. The situation on the ground today is very worrisome as well as disturbing. What is currently playing out in our dear country is nothing different from a typical war situation. We are obviously in a ditch. Regrettably, no one, not even the system seems to be making any genuine effort to rescue the nation from the precipice. Some brainwashed, merciless and senile individuals masquerading as terrorists under an amorphous ragtag configuration called Boko Haram have not only held the nation by its jugular, but have made life unbearable for many Nigerians. The reality of this dicey situation confronting us today can be seen in the rising figure of displaced persons, families and children presently taking refuge at different emergency settlements put in place by government agencies and non governmental organizations in some parts of the north east. It’s about time we told ourselves the blunt truth that all isn't okay and normal in our dear fatherland. Wanting to hide under any guise or narrow consideration to play down on the intensity of the disturbing situation in our Nigeria of today is indeed a sin in the sight of God almighty and crime against humanity. We cannot by any means hurriedly conclude that all is well and fine with us when we wake up daily to read gory, heartrending stories of how our fellow countrymen and women are slaughtered and buried in shallow graves like chickens. Ideally, we should all be bothered by the horror and pains that Nigerians in the entire north-east are experiencing. Schools, hospitals, social, religious and commercial services have long given way to daylight bomb attacks and serial abductions of women and young school girls. We must all come to terms with the obvious fact that, insecurity in any part of Nigeria constitutes a huge security threat to the entire nation. One cannot really tell how these terror elements operate. So, it is completely wrong, unacceptable and condemnable for anyone or group of persons to roundly conclude that Boko Haram is simply a problem of just a section of Nigeria. To me, this attitude further fuels insecurity and emboldens these terror elements in their devilish mission to hasten Nigeria’s journey to Armageddon. It is high time we demanded genuine explanations from those who are prosecuting the insurgency war on the way forward. Keeping shut and acting as though all is well with us is a deadly venture. These terrorists, after successfully registering their ugly presence in most parts of Borno State, with even a ‘caliphate’ in place, they have relocated to neighbouring Adamawa State, from where the group has been launching serious offensive in the last one week. Curiously, these attacks and successful relocations are going on at a time the federal government recently told the world that it had entered into a ceasefire agreement with the Boko Haram group. Besides, three of the six states in the northeast region have been under partial emergency rule in the last one year. Many wonder how this group manages to operate in areas under full military watch! Just yesterday, Mubi, the home of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Alex Sabundu Badeh, came under serious attacks as terrorists, believed to be members of the Boko Haram sect invaded the town. Not satisfied with just attacking markets and other public places in the state, the daredevil guys took the battle to the military barracks located in the town. Media reports have it that armed military men literarily, sensing danger, deserted their barracks. Hell was however let lose yesterday. The situation created panic, confusion, disquiet, fears and uncertainty among residents of Mubi and several other adjoining towns within Adamawa state. Many have summarily concluded that both the federal government and its military architecture are incapable of dealing with the situation head on. It appears that the more assurances we receive from our military and intelligence communities on the possibility of overcoming terrorism anytime soon, the fiercer the Boko Haram gets in its vicious attacks. From all indications, it appears that, concerned Nigerians, with particular reference to the government at the centre seem not to have the slightest clue as to how to end insurgency anytime soon. Well, forget the barrage of conjured lies usually presented to us in form of press statements assuring us of what the Federal Government is doing to send Shekau and his men packing. We have heard all manner of lies since the very day Shekau made known his plans to make Nigeria a hell of a place

Politics / 2015 Politics Claiming The Lives Of Our Loved Ones In Mubi by amsad19(m): 7:15am On Oct 31, 2014 |
This morning as early as 5 a.m. I and my Personal Assistant left Yola on our way to Maiha, luckily for me a good Samaritan had allowed my daughter the use of his phone and we spoke. I told her exactly where to wait. By 8.40am we met them weak, tired and with swollen feet. We were supposed to be joyful but honestly we were not. The magnitude of the humanitarian disaster that we saw is better imagined than witnessed. Men, women and Children some as young as a day old were moving along the road heading for Pella from where they hope to connect to Yola or other safer locations. It was a human catastrophe of monumental proportions. Some headed their cattle and other domestic animals on the journey to the unknown. I saw about three children all less than 5 years old who had lost contact with their parents. I saw a woman in Labour. I saw danger, I saw naked fear in the eyes of the people as they moved towards an unknown destination, I saw despondency and hopelessness. The worst picture I saw is that of soldiers running away; soldiers and civilians competed in entering a tipper in Maiha! I was dumbfounded! Some of the soldiers begged us to take them but We couldn't as there was no space in our vehicle. The Mararraban Pella junction has now turned out to be a Military cantonment of some sort. Hundreds of Soldiers and their hardware are holed up there. As we drove back, several things came to My mind. How did this masifat start? When will this end? Who will end it? How come our gallant soldiers run away from combat? Who supplies the insurgents their superior weapons? How come there is no word from the Military Authorities on the latest attack on MUBI? Meanwhile fighting is still going on in areas around Vimtim. The insurgents are bent on reaching the residence of the Chief of Defense Staff. As of yesterday the safest place around Mubi was Vimtim but by today that may not be the case. The main market in Mubi was bombed this morning with heavy losses in terms of goods but no reported casualties. I got across to one Iliya Mai Zane who went and saw the damage in the market. Farmlands were also abandoned. One Isaac Inuwa a Pastor and Assistant General Overseer of Triumph of Faith Church in Lamorde Mubi who went to pick his kid from a private school was reportedly killed by the insurgents yesterday in the presence of his wife. Many people trapped in the town including my colleagues and some students of Adamawa State University, Mubi are without electricity, water, food or other essentials. Those running to Yola do not know where to go. It's a monumental disaster that is hidden by all the noise about the politics of 2015 elections. Another worry expressed by our people is the silence of Government owned Media in the face of these disasters. Where is their social responsibility to our people? What of the so called Media Center? We are waiting.

Politics / Pro-jonathan Group, TAN, Hitby Fraud Allegations Overrented Crowd Payments by amsad19(m): 8:21am On Oct 19, 2014 |
The Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria, TAN, a group passionately campaigning for a second term for Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan, has been hit by allegation of fraud, with some members of the group accusing it of staging a crowd in support of the president and refusing to pay them as agreed. Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria rally in Port Harcourt TAN has conducted regional rallies in support of Mr. Jonathan since August, with the last of its six conventions held in Kano, for the northwest, which comprises Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Kaduna States. The Kano event held Saturday, September 27. As with the previous five regional rallies, the event was attended by senior officials of the federal government, and thousands of supporters. Much of the crowd at the event was rented, some aggrieved members of the group have told PREMIUM TIMES. The politicians, who are members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kano State, and were drafted to be part of the TAN rally, have narrated how they were asked to rent a crowd for the president for an agreed fee, only to be left stranded without money to compensate hundreds of youth and women hired for the rally. The matter is threatening to tear the support organization apart with the aggrieved members threatening to seek redress and to expose the sham they claim was on parade at the event. The aggrieved agents now have a pile of debt to settle and some of them who spoke with PREMIUM TIMES say they do not know who to talk to about the money they spent in bringing in supporters. One of the agents, Ibrahim Lawan, who said he is the Secretary of the PDP Youth Awareness Initiative, Kano, told PREMIUM TIMES that he was instructed to bring in 500 youth and women and to hire buses that will transport them to the venue of the rally in Kano city. The arrangement, according to Mr. Lawan, was that each participant would be paid N500 on arrival, and N2, 000 for each bus. Those contracted to rent the crowd hired at least 50 busloads of supporters, he said. The story changed once they arrived at the venue, he told PREMIUM TIMES. “But to my utmost surprise and confusion, as we entered the venue we tried to locate the organizers but we could not see them. When I called them they said I should be patient as they would settle everything after the event. But almost immediately, we realized that the whole thing is a scam because nobody was talking to us again,” Mr. Lawan said. He said they were left to source money and settle some of the youth who became restive and attacked them and their personal vehicles, and seized their belongings, including phones. “This left us in rancour with over 600 angry youths who went wild due to frustrations of spending lots of hours, no food or water and also no available transportation back to their various destinations,” he said. Mr. Lawan said he managed to escape while two of his guards were injured in the fray that followed. Students in the state, who were also asked to put up a showing at the event, were treated the same way, he said. Another agent, Bello Dan Alkarya, also told PREMIUM TIMES that he was asked to bring in women and youth to the venue and would be given N500 naira for each of them. Mr. Alkarya said he did, but unlike Mr. Lawan, he was short-changed as only N300 was paid for each person transported to the rally venue. TAN has no official representation in Kano, PREMIUM TIMES understands. Our correspondent, who made findings in Kano, was told the group has only two resource persons who are responsible for the entire northwest. One of the officials, who agreed to speak, but on the condition his identity be protected, said he had received several complaints of people short-changed by the group after the event. “I simply told them I am not an insider into the activities of TAN because I don’t know much about them. We are only two of us in the whole of North West Region and we don’t have any office. The only way I get to them is when they call me, I don’t know anything about them,” he said. “In fact, the only person who holds everything is the owner of the group, Ifeanyi Uba. He is the one who directed one Jibrin to make sure that they get some people to bring in women and youth. Now you can see that there is a problem in the whole thing,” the man said. TAN’s Director of Communication and Strategy, Udenta Udenta, told PREMIUM TIMES in a telephone interview on Saturday that the association was not aware of the issue and could not have been involved in such an arrangement. “Kano rally was our last rally. The response of Nigerians to our objective and rallies was spontaneous and they are full of passion and conviction. From the South East rally to the North West, that has been the trend. “However, stakeholders, including those contesting elections, can mobilize people to come to the rallies. It is not like TAN is doing the entire mobilization. It is like a market place. TAN only set up a platform to accommodate various interests. Therefore, whoever made the accusation (you are talking about) should be clear on it; he should state clearly who is responsible, when the agreement was reached, date and if not, such a story should be dismissed.” Mr. Lawan said he and others affected have decided to reach out to the media, the PDP leadership and the police. “Till now those in charge of the mobilisation and payment of transport fares and feeding stipends are nowhere to be found or contacted,” he said. “It’s indeed a pity to see how things are being organised by TAN Northwest (Kano). Please PDP, GDG and TAN members, come to my aid, I am currently under pressure and threatened by angry PDP youths to pay them their stipends.” TAN has been at the centre of controversy before. During its earlier rallies, the group staged the events at the peak of the Ebola outbreak in Nigeria defying complaints and warnings from Nigerians about the possibility of helping to spread the deadly virus. |

Politics / 2015 Election: Buhari Leadsjonathan In Poll Organizedby Presidential Aide by amsad19(m): 7:22am On Oct 19, 2014 |
On October 15, the day former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, declared his intention to run for president in the 2015 election, news website, Sahara Reporters, activated an opinion poll asking Nigerians to indicate who they would vote for if the election were to hold that day between Mr. Buhari (as candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC) and President Goodluck Jonathan ( as candidate of the Peoples Democratic, PDP). The poll lasted for only 24 hours, and out of a total of 15,435 persons that voted, Mr. Buhari got 12,246 votes, representing 79 percent of the total votes cast, while President Jonathan got 3189 votes, representing 21 percent of the total votes. However, ostensibly to counter the poll conducted by Sahara Reporters, Mr. Jonathan’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Reno Omokri, also set up a similar poll asking almost the same question posed by the news website. His poll, which is still running in his blog, “Build Up Nigeria” posed the question “If the Nigerian Presidential election were held today, who would you vote for between President Goodluck Jonathan and General Muhammadu Buhari?”. Mr. Omokri’s poll began a day after Mr. Buhari declared to run, but unlike the one ran by Sahara Reporters, which has since closed, the one by Build Up Nigeria is still running. However, the result of the poll, as at 18:32 p.m. on Saturday, showed that Mr. Buhari was also leading by a wide margin. While Mr. Buhari has 6,411 votes, representing 69.87 percent of the total tally, President Goodluck Jonathan has 2,455 votes, representing 26.75 percent of the votes cast. Three hundred and ten persons, representing 3.38 percent of the total votes, were undecided. While Sahara Reporters used epoll platform, Mr. Omokri used poll daddy.
