Well for them you have to pay because they raised their daughter, spent time and money in imbibing good values into her, paid her schoolfees etc so for you to come and take her away you have to repay in cash all they spent on her and i do think it is a cultural thing in nigeria and would still be applicable to today's society to fulfill traditions but then collecting large amounts which is now common these days is just pure pilfery. And u still have to buy goats,cows,drinks, pay matching ground fee etc

The bride price is mandatory in nigeria, and the problem here is not paying it, the problem is that atimes your whole life savings would equal the amount to be paid. My uncle paid 4.8 million naira

As a prospective marriage candidate, drop your own terms and conditions

We the executive of ATM ATMAN have come up with the following Eleven (11) terms and conditions before paying huge sums of above 500,000 naira for bride price...

1. Failure of the bride to take in or get pregnant within the first 6 months of marriage would mean a 75 percent refund

2. Failure of the virginity test on the bride means a 20 percent refund

3. Since u claim to have spent alot training ur daughter, failure of landing a good white collar job that has good pay means 30 percent refund
4. Failure to the bride to accept all our sexual advances shall justify our extra-marital affairs
5. Failure of the bride to prepare sweet tasting meals means we have to waste resources on fastfood and that means a 50 percent refund
6. For every vacation in which we take your daughters out of the country, you are liable to acknowledge us with a wine as a token of appreciation
7. If we happen to be in diaspora, any omugwo trip by our wive's mother would be sponsored by her family
8. If there is any form of disrespect by our wives to our parents, we shall be justified when we either give her the silent treatment or maltreat her
9. If it is discovered that your daughters get involved in any extra marital affairs, there will be a 90 percent refund of the bride price or we would be justified to have sex with any woman of our choice on the matrimonial bed
10. If the husband is tall and fairskinned and intelligent and the wife too is goodlooking, then the child has to have same traits, if your daughters give birth to a physically defected, slowpoke, dumb, midget sized offspring, then there must be a curse from your village or she must have cheated and therefore there must a 90 percent refund with an apology letter

AND FINALLY THE 11THD TERM AND CONDITION, WHICH FAILURE TO OBEY RESULTS IN 100 PERCENT REFUND AND UTTER DIVORCE IS.....
