Phones / Here's What 5g Will Bring In 2019 by Anegbettedude: 3:15pm On Mar 28, 2019
We’ve all heard about the exciting new services that 5G will bring, from connected vehicles to smart manufacturing. While some advanced industrial services will take five to ten years to emerge fully, 5G offers plenty of near-term value.

However, this is not well known. According to a recent survey by GSMA , consumers think 5G is just a faster version of 4G. In fact, only 25% of people understand the true value that 5G can bring. They're in for a pleasant surprise.

BETTER EXPERIENCE, LOWER COST

First, 5G will greatly enhance mobile user experience. It will enable new services such as cloud-based virtual reality (no more clunky headsets), cloud PC (it gives your phone the same processing capabilities as a laptop) and ultra-high definition video, wherever you go.

In November 2018, the UK’s largest operator BT/EE broadcast the Wembley Cup Final live in high definition over a commercial 5G network. Because 5G is so fast and experiences so little delay in signal transmission, BT was able to produce complex effects that made the game more interesting to viewers, but it could do all the production remotely, without having to drag heavy equipment to the game site.

Going beyond the TV screen, 5G-enabled virtual reality (VR) applications will also let sports fans watch games from the perspective of their favourite players - or that of the ball itself. This will completely change how we experience sports, while opening up new revenue streams for telecoms operators and other companies along the value chain.

Second, 5G will improve the efficiency of spectrum use tenfold and network capacity by 20 to 30 times, allowing operators to provide consumers with better service at a lower price. There is no doubt that 5G is already delivering economic value for consumers, telecoms operators and vertical industries. 5G will be deployed in about 110 markets by 2025, according to GSMA. Huawei alone will deploy commercial 5G networks in more than 20 countries over the next year.

HOSPITAL'S ON WHEELS

5G will also makes society more inclusive and sustainable. For example, both emerging and developed markets face the perennial challenge of providing healthcare in rural areas. Access to primary care; distance and transport; health literacy; a scarcity of doctors and nurses - these are all issues that 5G can help resolve.

Using 5G, China Mobile has helped turn ambulances into mobile hospitals. Doctors at Zhejiang University School of Medicine in China can operate ultrasound equipment remotely through VR glasses, using a robotic arm to examine patients in ambulances as well as other locations. 5G is crucial here, as any delay in signal transmission can be disastrous for the patient, and only 5G networks are stable enough to allow doctors to perform such delicate procedures remotely.

In January 2019, doctors in the southeastern Chinese province of Fujian performed the world’s first remote operation using a 5G network transmission. The successful operation (performed on a pig) marks the advent of 5G remote surgery, laying the groundwork for a wealth of innovative new clinical applications in the future.

One day, 5G networks will connect patients in remote areas with doctors around the world. People in the Gobi desert and Arctic Circle will have access to the same level of care they could get in London or Dubai.

Carriers in China are also launching 5G pilot projects that connect students in poorer regions with some of the world’s best teachers. Although high-definition video and VR can’t be reliably delivered through 4G networks, high-powered 5G connections could benefit nearly 60% of the children in China's underdeveloped regions, giving 220 million students a chance to receive a good education.

TECH FOR THE GREATER GOOD

I believe technological innovations are meaningful only when they make people's lives better. That’s social value, and it’s ultimately what makes our industry important. It’s our responsibility to produce good technology, of course - but that technology must create social value.

5G will be huge in 2019. I’m calling on all of my tech industry colleagues to work together and deliver technology’s benefits faster, make them more widely available and deepen their economic and social impact.

Phones / The Current State Of Mobile Gaming In Africa by Anegbettedude: 8:54am On Feb 07, 2019
Mobile gaming or gaming on your smartphone has become increasingly popular in the last 5 years. Applications that are available for download can help in battling boredom, connecting with people from across the world, and finding information at your fingertips.

The fact that a lot of these games can be downloaded for free coupled with the fact that they can be accessed on our phones provided we have internet has encouraged the download and use of these games.

In Africa, the focus of gaming companies and the rise of gamers from the continent has lead to an increase in access to games that were not originally available or had to be paid to be gotten before now.

Mobile gaming is now more commonplace especially amongst the young generation who are more active on social media and receive information on where to get the latest games.

Phones / What To Do If Your Phone Won’t Connect To Wi-fi by Anegbettedude: 9:36am On Jan 28, 2019
Wi-Fi connection problems are quite frustrating. Maybe it’s just me, but they normally happen at the worst possible time, when you need to check something online, write an important email, and so on. If you’re having problems connecting your Android smartphone to a Wi-Fi network, you’re not alone. This is a common problem that, unfortunately, a lot of users experience from time to time.

In this post, we’ll take a closer look at a few fixes that just might solve your connectivity issue and get you back online if your phone won’t connect to Wi-Fi.
Let’s dive in.

The first step if your phone won’t connect to Wi-Fi is an obvious one: You should check to see if Wi-Fi on your Android device is turned on.

You might have forgotten to turn it on or have switched it off by mistake. It happens. Luckily for you, this is an easy fix. Just pull down the notification bar and check if the Wi-Fi icon is enabled. Alternatively, you can also open up the settings menu and check under Wireless and network (might be called differently on your device) to see if everything is as it should be.

The other setting you should check is the airplane mode. When turned on, it disables Wi-Fi, among other things, so you can’t connect to the internet. You can also find this setting in the Wireless and network menu or whatever it may be called on your device. If the airplane mode is off and Wi-Fi is on but you still don’t have a connection, you should move on to the second solution on this list.

1. Check router name and password when your phone won’t connect to Wi-Fi

The reason why you have a connection problem might be because you’re trying to connect to the wrong network. This can happen at times, especially if your neighbors have the same ISP and, therefore, similar network names in some cases. Make sure you check what your network is called by looking at the back or the bottom of your router. You’ll see a small sticker that contains the info you need.

If you have figured out that you were actually trying to connect to the right network, the next step is to double check the password. You’ll find this piece of information on the same sticker as the network name. Re-enter the password for the network you’re trying to connect to and see if it solves your problem. Just keep in mind that the password is case sensitive, which means you should enter it with uppercase and/or lowercase letters.

2. Reboot your router and smartphone

It’s quite possible that the router is to blame for your connection problems, and not your smartphone. This happens all the time and is quite easy to fix in most cases. Just unplug the router from the power outlet and wait for at least 30 seconds before you plug it back in. After that, you’ll have to wait for a minute or two for the router to turn back on. Once it’s set up, just try to connect to the network again to see if things work as they should now.

If they don’t, you should also reboot your device. Sometimes, this can solve loads of different smartphone related problems and takes less than a minute to do. Just press and hold the power button, select the restart option, wait for the device to turn back on again, and then check to see if the connection problem still persists.

3. Forget the Wi-Fi network and reconnect

Forgetting the network and then reconnecting is the next solution that just might solve your problem. To do this, open up the settings menu, find the Wi-Fi option, and then select your network. A window will pop up on your screen with some info that also contains the “Forget” button. You can see what this looks like in the image above.

Tap on it and then just reconnect to the same network with your password. As already mentioned above, you’ll find it on a small sticker that’s located on the back or the bottom of your router. The password is case sensitive, which is something to keep in mind when entering it.

4. Perform a factory reset

This is far from a great option, but if the fixes described above didn’t work, it’s definitely worth giving it a shot. Performing a factory reset will get rid of any software bugs on your device that might have caused your connection problems. It’s not hard to do and doesn’t take a whole lot of time. However, it will wipe all the data (images, apps, documents..) off your device, so make sure you back it up first. You can read up on how exactly to do that by clicking on the link below.

The easiest way to perform a factory reset is in the settings. Just open up the settings and find the “Back up and reset” menu, which might be called a bit differently on your device. Tap on it, select the factory reset option, and wipe the data off your device.

Once the smartphone turns back on, you’ll have to go through the setup process again, just like you did when using it for the first time. Once that’s done, turn on Wi-Fi, select your network, and try to connect by entering the password. Hopefully, everything works now and you’re able to connect to the internet without a problem.

5. Call the repair guy

If none of the solutions described above worked, the problem isn’t quite as minor as hoped. It’s possible that there’s a hardware issue with either your smartphone or router.

The best thing to do is to try and connect at least one more device to the Wi-Fi network that’s causing you headaches. If it also can’t connect, there’s a good chance that something is wrong with your router. Unfortunately, this happens quite often but is luckily not that difficult to solve. Just call your ISP, explain the problem, and someone should come to your home to replace the broken router with a new one and set it up.

However, if other devices can connect to the network and only yours can’t, the problem might be with your smartphone. I said might because there are cases when some routers just won’t work with certain devices, which has happened to me recently. In this case, replacing the router with a different one should do the trick.

You could test this out by trying to connect your device to a different Wi-Fi network at your friend’s house or a restaurant, for example. If you can’t get a connection, it’s quite possible that your smartphone is the problem, which means you should get it repaired. If it’s still under warranty or if you have phone insurance, this shouldn’t be a major deal. Otherwise, you’ll just have to pay up to get it fixed, unless you want to rely on a mobile network for internet access.

These are some of the solutions that we hope will help you solve the Wi-Fi connection problems you’re experiencing when your phone won’t connect to Wi-Fi, so you can get back online and continue watching those cat videos you love so much. If you think we have missed any, do let us know in the comments. Also feel free to share which of the solutions listed above was the one that worked for you.

Phones / Headphone Jack Not Working? Here Are 5 Possible Fixes by Anegbettedude: 8:37am On Jan 28, 2019
Find yourself in a situation where your headphone jack is not working? Problems with the headphone jack on smartphones aren’t as uncommon as you may think. It happens to a lot of users and can be extremely frustrating, especially for those who regularly listen to music, and so on.

This post will guide you through five fixes that will, hopefully, solve the problem you are experiencing. Without any further delay, let’s get started.

1. Make sure your headphones aren’t broken

The first step is an obvious one. It’s quite possible that there’s actually nothing wrong with the headphone jack and that the headphones are the problem. You can check this out quickly just by plugging them into another device. This doesn’t necessarily have to be a smartphone. A laptop, TV, or any other device that has the 3.5 mm jack on board will do.

If you can’t hear any audio when using your headphones with a different device, you’ve found the source of the problem. Just replace your headphones and you’re good to go. If they’re working fine with a different device, something else is to blame. Time to try out one of the other fixes listed below.

We also recommend plugging a different pair of headphones into your smartphone before moving forward. Although it’s rare, there’s still a chance that your original pair isn’t compatible with your smartphone, even if they work with other devices.

2. Check to see if the smartphone is connected to a different device via Bluetooth

If your smartphone is paired with wireless headphones, a speaker, or any other device via Bluetooth, it’s possible that the headphone jack is disabled. Normally, when you plug in your headphones, the smartphone should recognize them and everything should work as intended regardless of the Bluetooth settings. However, this isn’t necessarily always the case.

It’s a quick and easy fix, as all you have to do is open up the settings menu on your device, find the Bluetooth option, and check to see if it’s on. In that case, the smartphone is likely paired with one of the other devices you have in your house. If that’s the problem, just turn it off, plug in your headphones, and see if that solves it. If they still don’t work, you should move on to the next solution on this list.

3. Clean the headphone jack

As you can imagine, a lot of dust, as well as lint, can make its way into the headphone jack over time. This just might be the cause of the problem, as the dirt can actually block the connection between the headphones and the jack.

The first thing you should do is simply take a look into the jack to see just how dirty it really is. A flashlight might come in handy for this. The next step is to try and clean it and hope that that solves the issue. There are a lot of different ways to do this, some of which work better than others. One option is simply to blow into the headphone jack, which should take care of at least some of the dust and lint that’s found inside. You can also use a can of compressed air if you have one nearby.

A great option is to use a cotton swab. Push it into the jack and swirl it around a little bit to get the dust and lint out. Be very careful when you do this, as the last thing you want to do is cause any more damage to the device. You can also damp the cotton swab with rubbing alcohol, but just make sure you don’t use too much of it.

After you’re done, look into the headphone jack again to see just how much dust and lint you were able to get out. If things look better, plug in your headphones to check if everything works as it should now.

4. Check audio settings and restart device

There’s also a chance the problem isn’t with the jack or the headphones you’re using but has to do with the audio settings of the device. If this is the case, you’ll be able to sort it out in no time. Just open up the audio settings on your device and check the volume level as well as any others settings that might mute the sound.

Normally, there aren’t a lot of settings like these on a smartphone, so you should find the problem more or less right away. If there is one, that is.

If everything seems to be in order, there’s another simple fix you can try which is restarting your device. This can sometimes solve loads of different smartphone-related problems and takes less than a minute to do. Just press and hold the power button, select the restart option, wait for the device to turn back on again, and then check to see if the problem still persists.

5. Time to call the repairman

If none of the fixes listed above work, it means that the problem isn’t quite as minor as hoped. If your device is still under warranty, the best thing to do is simply contact the retailer or manufacturer, explain the problem, and send it in for repair or replacement. This can take quite some time in some cases, but at least it’s free.

In case the warranty has expired but you do have phone insurance, just make a claim with your provider.

The third solution is definitely the worst one, which is to get the device repaired by the manufacturer or someone else who knows what he or she is doing. You’ll have to open up your wallet and pay up to get it fixed, but at least you’ll be able to use the headphone jack again. Otherwise, you could just opt for a pair of wireless Bluetooth headphones, which will also solve the problem. Well, sort of.

These are some of the fixes that we hope will help you take care of a faulty headphone jack on your smartphone. If you think we have missed any, do let us know in the comments. Also feel free to share which of the solutions listed above — if any — worked best for you.

Phones / Overheating Phone? Relax Here Is What You Should Do. by Anegbettedude: 9:21am On Jan 16, 2019
I saw my sister putting a sachet water on her phone while charging I was curious to ask her why, she said the phone over heat a lots. So I decided to find the ways to fix Android Devices Overheating issues.

Enjoy yourself as you read on.

1. Use Original Charger

Have you at any point read the manual that comes with your smart-phone? Each telephone manufacturing company always specified that don’t use fake or duplicate chargers since it might harm your phone’s battery. The battery is the major reason behind why our phone overheats. In this manner make sure to utilize the original charger that accompanies your phone.

2. Charging Phone Properly

You should make sure to use the original charger and ensure you don’t charge your gadget for a really long time in the daytime head. Simply charge to 70 or 80% during the day and full charge the gadget during the night.

3. Check Your WiFi

All things considered, WiFi itself doesn’t make your cell phone to overheat. In any case, it’s the apps that get activated on the background anytime your cell phone connects with a WiFi network. In this way, make sure to check all the background updates whenever your telephone connects to a WiFi network.

4. Turn Off The Bluetooth, GPS

Bluetooth and GPS ceaselessly search for available networks out of sight. On the off chance that you are running Android games and the Bluetooth, GPS features of your phone is on, then it can make your phone to overheat. Therefore, ensure you off the Bluetooth and GPS if you don’t really need them.

5. Multi-Tasking

The applications and things you carried out on your phone are the same things as in your life. They can pile up with time and again overwhelmed. If your Android is getting hot in consistent basis then there are high possibilities your telephone have an application that it can’t handle.

6. Don’t Overuse

All things considered, we have a habit to accuse our Android gadget for heating up. But, we neglect to check our usage habits. Our smartphones are very powerful. However they are not made for ceaseless use, unlike gaming consoles or PCs. These days, we use phones more than PCs. Our telephone doesn’t have any cooling network like we have in our PCs. Thus, we should quit overusing our Android device.

7. Heavy streaming

Watching movies and videos is another fact that may make your phone overheats. Usually we spend most of our time watching films in our Android gadget while traveling. This requires more work from your telephone processor which expends the power as well as overheats.

8. Heavy gaming

Your Android play store gives you the varieties of entertaining games and applications are developed and discovered each day. Some of the applications and games consume more processing power than others depending upon the complexity of the application and when you combine these two, at that point they begin heating up.

9. Clean your phone Junk files

You should need to clean all the junk documents, caches and cookies, these garbage files may hurt your CPU and Ram which prompts overheating.

10. Damaged Battery

The primary fact if your telephone is getting hot then it is probably that your battery is old or failing. You should replace it on time. if you bought it for less than a year, at that point you should do free battery replacement by claiming the warranty .

11. Proper Ventilation Of Android Device

We should have a daily life example when you are strolling in the cold region and the cold breeze is blowing and you didn’t have gloves to wear, at that point you put you usually your hands in the pocket to get warm.

Likewise, every cell phone requires some ventilation. If your telephone appears overheating when it is in your pocket, then carry out from your pocket and let it have some ventilation. Keep it in your nice comfortable pockets with the goal that it can breathe a little bit and gets cool.

12. Water Damage

Normally, every one of us listens to songs while washing or taking bath. Overheating and power issues happen mostly with water involvement.

Find the LDI (Liquid Damage Indicator) sticker on your telephone to ensure that your telephone isn’t encountering any issue related to liquid damage or moisture

Phones / Phone Tech-explained Everything You Need To Know About IR Blaster by Anegbettedude: 10:58am On Jan 03, 2019
Hello
In this we will know about IR blasters. This is the last for this year. Without further waiting, let's move on to the topic.

What is an IR blaster?

An infrared blaster (or IR blaster) is a device that emulates an infrared remote control to autonomously control a device that is normally controlled only by remote control key presses.

It works with Infrared rays. Infrared (IR) radiation is a type of electromagnetic radiation. The wave is longer than light which humans can see and shorter than microwaves. The word infrared means below red. It comes from the Latin word infra (below) and the English word red
How IR remote works?

An IR remote (also called a transmitter) uses light to carry signals from the remote to the device it controls. It emits pulses of invisible infrared light that correspond to specific binary codes.

These codes represent commands, such as power on, volume up, or channel down. The controlled device (also called the receiver) decodes the infrared pulses of light into binary code that its internal microprocessor understands. Once the signal is decoded, the microprocessor executes the commands.

IR remotes use LED lights to transmit their infrared signals. This results in a few limitations of the technology. Since light is used to transmit the signal, IR remotes require line-of-sight, which means you need an open path between the transmitter and receiver. This means that IR remotes won't work through walls or around corners. They also have a limited range of about 30 feet.

How IR Blaster Works?

The working of IR Blaster is pretty much the same as that of a remote control except that there is a digital to IR light converter in the IR Blaster. The digital signals produced by the up and down pulses of electricity while IR light is completely invisible. They are used because they have a better transfer rate and can travel through the air without causing any threat to anyone.
If the system is neatly configured, the beam generated by the IR Blaster can be used to control devices such as TV’s and computers while, at the same time, control devices such as VCR or DVR using an IR remote control.

Types of IR Blasters

1.Internal IR blaster

This type of IR blaster will be present in the devices by default i.e IR blaster is included in the device by the manufacturer let it be either in a remote control or Mobile phone or any other device.

2. External IR blaster

This type of IR blaster will not be given inbuilt in the devices. This should be attached as a piece of external equipment to the device. These can be connected via USB port or 3.5 mm headphone jack according to your choice.
IR blaster is not sufficient to control the devices. There need to be software installed on your device which is integrated with the IR blaster. There are many apps available in the play store.

Applications

The main use of an IR blaster is to control secondary device through a primary device with the help of an infrared remote control. IR blasters can be used for many electronic devices and there is no limit to its extent. The devices vary from TV’s, PC’s, VCR, home theatre, big screen projectors and so on. Another application of the device includes the extending of the range of the IR remote by keeping the blaster in a closed area, in hiding, or even at an angle that the remote cannot “see”. There are also USB IR blasters which can be connected to computers. Through this device, all the other IR devices in the room can be easily controlled.

Advantages

User-friendly
The user can sit still in one place and handle all the devices in the room.
Can be configured to work with special devices and also paired with computer applications like EyeTV and RealBasic.
No need of an external power supply for the device as it gets self-powered from the device it is connected to.

Disadvantages

Configuring the device at the beginning is difficult and confusing.
The cost of the device is considerably low but may go up according to the sensitivity, output power levels, and other chosen factors.

Phones / Why Does Your Android Os Use So Much Ram by Anegbettedude: 2:32pm On Dec 19, 2018
When’s the last time you’ve kept track of all of your RAM usage? I don’t know usually look at mine until other apps start to crash, or things start to slow down, but it’s important to monitor. Everything on your Android eats up the limited amount of RAM you have, even your Android OS takes up a sizable chunk.

Your OS is responsible for everything on your phone running smoothly, but how does it use up so much or so little RAM on any given day? It isn’t the only thing on your Android that constantly changes how much RAM it uses either. If your RAM is already highly limited, this is seems concerning, but let me tell you why it isn’t.

Why You Don’t Want “Free” RAM

There’s sometimes a misconception about what you want your RAM taken up by with Android, so if you ever see your System taking up more than 50% of your RAM, don’t panic. The way Android is designed is to make effective use of any available RAM, so if the RAM is “free” Android will step in and put the RAM to work doing something useful.

If there’s nothing useful for your RAM to do yet, the space will remain free for whatever you need. However, in almost every case, if you need more RAM for something else other than Android systems, anything that isn’t integral will be halted to give you the RAM you need. At the same time, this is why you don’t have to worry about using task killers.

Why Does the OS Use So Much RAM?

To make sure the Android ship is sailing smoothly, a good chunk of your RAM is taken up by Android OS doing multiple things. These things include storing soon to be used information, optimizing processes, and in general making sure things aren’t set on fire.

If you have any free RAM sitting around, your OS will usually put it to work doing anything it can to make your entire experience smoother. This is why you’ll sometimes see it take up an incredible amount of space

With that said, there are still RAM hogs that slow the experience down that aren’t your OS. Unlike Android itself, these can be closed to help allocate more RAM to where you need it to go.

Is There Anything That Uses Too Much RAM?

While I’ve talked about RAM not being free is a good thing, there will still come a time where you simply don’t have enough depending on how many processes are running at once. This will either mean apps and services will crash, will run much slower than normal, or won’t even start in the first place.

When you’re done with an app, and are sure you won’t use it again for the rest of the day, make sure to close it. If you have the RAM, that app will still run in the background while it waits for you to come back. If your Android absolutely needs the RAM, it’ll take it where it can, even going as far to stop leaving certain services on hold.

If you get into the habit of closing something when you’re done with it, you won’t need to go around killing tasks to make everything run smoother

The RAM Difference Between iPhones and Androids

In most comparisons you’ll see an iPhone’s OS taking up far less RAM than Android OS, but this is because of how the two systems handle their respective tasks differently. Even when it isn’t concerning RAM, the same is said about other data between the two phone operating system. up

In general, an Android will use more RAM than iPhone because they’re performing more processes in the background to either optimize, or load more of an experience. You may end up with more RAM “free” on an iPhone, but that’s just space that isn’t being used to its full potential.

Remember that RAM that isn’t being used may as well be wasted space on Android. That doesn’t mean you should open as many processes as possible, but that you shouldn’t get worried if you only see a couple hundred megabytes of RAM available.

Conclusion

Android’s OS makes full use of how much available RAM you have, and how much RAM it needs for essential functions at the same time. Not having enough RAM will make apps sluggish, or force them to close, but your OS isn’t at fault. As long as you close an app when you’re done with it, your Android will take care of the rest.

Politics / How To Get More Storage In Android by Anegbettedude: 11:01am On Dec 12, 2018
These days phones typically come with at least 32GB or 64GB of storage as standard, or perhaps 16GB if you've bought a budget model. But even that is easy enough to fill up when you get a bit too carried away with installing apps and taking photos and videos.

Even if you've not run into any storage issues just yet, managing your storage properly can help keep things ticking along nicely performance-wise.

(If you're playing with such a tiny amount of internal storage that you're getting the "insufficient storage available" message when you try to download an app or app update, and have already followed all our suggestions below, see our separate guide on how to clear Android's cache.)

Without doubt the best way to free up space on Android is to perform a factory reset and start afresh. But setting things back up how you want them can take an awful lot of time, and you may lose precious photos, video and other files if you've not backed them up correctly.

1. Move photos and video off internal storage

This is possibly the one item on this list that will have more impact than any other. Photos and videos take up a crazy amount of space, and the more storage space you have the less likely you are to routinely go through and prune out the poor shots.

If your device has space for a microSD card, add one and automate the saving of such media to microSD. If your device does not support microSD there's Google Photos. In fact, we'd advise using this free app anyway, since it's useful for ensuring all the important memories get backed up and are accessible from any device on which you are logged into your Google account.

2. Delete WhatsApp media

It's easy enough to prevent WhatsApp automatically downloading pictures and video to your phone. However, did you know it also stores any media you send over the service?

It's unlikely that you'll be able to view these files from the Gallery, so instead open your file browser app (if you don't have one you can get a free one from Google Play) and navigate to Internal storage > WhatsApp > Media > WhatsApp Images > Sent. You can also check out the other folders within Media, such as WhatsApp Video.

You may be surprised what you find here, so delete what you don't need, including any duplicates already backed up in Google Photos.

3. Move data to Google Drive

Since you're using a phone that runs a Google-owned operating system, it makes sense to make use of Google's other cloud-storage tools, too. Though your document files will take up significantly less space (unless you have a lot of them, or a lot of multiple-page PDFs for example), all these can be moved to Google Drive. As with Photos, this will create a useful backup and make those files accessible from any online device.

4. Delete unwanted apps and games

Sometimes people think they've deleted all the junk they've installed through Google Play, and really all they've done is scanned their home screen for unused apps and deleted those they find there. Worse still, sometimes they've only deleted the shortcut icon, and the app is still lurking in the app drawer. (Not all Android phones allow you how to uninstall apps from the home screen.)

The best way to unearth unused apps and games is to visit the Apps menu in Settings. You want to avoid deleting anything important just because it doesn't seem familiar to you, so ensure you're looking only at the Downloaded tab if your device offers such as option (this will depend on which version of Android you're running).

You can also access a list of the apps and games you've downloaded by opening Google Play, choosing Settings, My apps & games, then selecting the installed tab. To delete anything here just tap on it, then choose Uninstall.

Don't avoid deleting paid apps simply because you once spent a quid on them: any previous purchases from Google Play can be re-downloaded at a later date free of charge.

5. Delete your downloads

Everyone always forgets about downloads, which are often left behind in a forgotten folder long after they've been any use to you. If you don't have a file browser app on your device you can download one free from Google Play. Now search for the Downloads folder and ditch anything you don't need.

How to get more storage in Android

We have already discussed adding a microSD card to expand your device's storage potential, but not all phone support them, and others do so at the expense of a second SIM slot which you might prefer to use. The good news is there are other ways to add storage to Android.

Even if your phone doesn't natively support a microSD card, it's easy to attach one to make use of on an ad-hoc basis using a microSD card reader. This connects to your phone's Micro-USB port, or you can use a wireless version such as the Verbatim MediaShare Wireless Mini, available for £22.99 from Amazon UK.

The Verbatim looks like a USB flash drive - and, indeed, can be inserted into your PC's USB port where it will act as such, allowing you to drag and drop files on to it - but inside is a microSD card, which supports the transfer of files as well as content streaming.

By downloading the Verbatim MediaShare Wireless Mini app (free from Google Play or the App Store), you can connect it to your Android phone or tablet over Wi-Fi to access the contents of the microSD card. The great thing about using the wireless connection on the Verbatim is that up to five people can share that connection, and you can password-protect access to the drive.

An internal battery lasts for up to three hours and is recharged over the USB connection.

Phones / How Often Do You Clear Cache In Your Phone? by Anegbettedude: 5:02pm On Dec 03, 2018
As the Android ecosystem evolves and our phones pack more features, there is an increasing need for additional storage in our phones. Apps are getting heavier, photos’ file sizes are increasing, and system files fill up that precious storage space more than ever.

One of the most common solutions to get more free storage is clearing the cache of your device. While it does work, it is important to know what it does and how safe it is to do it.'

What does clearing the cache do?
Let’s imagine this situation: you are scrolling down your Twitter feed. The app displays the profile picture of each account, consuming data in order to download it and show it to you. What happens if someone tweets again and the app needs to retrieve the appropriate profile picture? Downloading the picture again would be a massive waste of time and data.

This is where the app cache comes in. When the picture is downloaded for the first time, it is stored on your device under the app’s cache. In case the app needs the picture again, it will just retrieve it from the cache instead of going to Twitter’s servers to download it. Getting an image (and any kind of data) from the internal storage is massively faster than getting it from the internet, giving you a better experience when using the app. It also means that Twitter is consuming less of your precious data by doing so, and it puts less strain on Twitter’s servers. It’s a win for everyone, right?

If you have a phone with 32GB or more of internal storage, you will not care at all about apps’ caches filling up your device. However, if you have a device with low amount of on-board storage, then this can become a bit problematic over time. Thus, Android provides an option to manually clear the cache of an app. Doing so will free up that precious space, letting you download new apps or take more pictures.

How to clear an app’s cache
In case you want to do this manually, go to the settings of your phone. Find the Apps option, where you will get a list of all the apps you have installed. Then scroll to the app in question and press the Storage option. There you will find the size of the app’s cache and a button to delete it.

Alternatively phone master also offers an automatic cleanup of cache and other non-essential files. Just go to theApp and clear the Trash.

Is it safe to clear an app’s cache?
In short, yes. Since the cache stores non-essential files (that is, files that are not 100% needed for the correct operation of the app), deleting it should not aversely affect the functionality of the app. Actually, there are some very rare cases where an app’s cache can become corrupt, and clearing it could fix an issue. So, if you have low storage, or you feel that an app is not behaving as it should, you can just clear it to reclaim space. Always look for applications that have a high amount of images presented in their interface. Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are three of the biggest apps that gobble up your storage, although, since social networking normally relies on imagery, then the whole category uses caching extensively. Browsers like Chrome and Firefox also like to use a lot of cache.

However, unless you are dangerously running out of storage, this is something that should not be required of you. Not only will your experience degrade a bit while the app builds cache again, but also, every single request will go to the internet, which could increase your usage of mobile data if you’re not using WiFi.

Finally, several apps have a really clever way of managing the app’s cache. If something stored there reaches a certain age (say, two months), the app can automatically remove it from cache, freeing up that space for you. This is not the case for every app, though.
All in all, if you really feel the need to do so, the option is there for you, just a couple of taps away.
