A police sergeant from Ibiaku community, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Ita Ayamba, has allegedly brutalised and abandoned his eight-year-old daughter, Goodness Ayamba over her refusal to confess to witchcraft....
Ita was said to have paraded the little girl along the village streets naked, declaring that Goodness was responsible for his retrogression in the Police Force.
A source and relative of Ita, told our correspondent in Eket on Saturday, on the condition of anonymity,
that the police sergeant tortured his daughter for several hours in an attempt to extract a confession of being a witch from her.
He said, “When he discovered that Goodness had passed out, Ita abandoned her, having hit her chest with the butt of his AK 47 Rifle.
“None of us could go close to Ita to rescue Goodness as he had threatened to shoot anyone that dared.
“I don’t see how a child of that age could become a clog in the wheel of her father’s progress in the Police Force. We need to tell each other the truth. Progress in one’s career depends on the efforts one has made academically.”
PUNCH Metro gathered that Ita had divorced Goodness’ mother some years back. He was said to have remarried almost immediately, leaving three children including Goodness with their grandmother.
A resident of the area, Okon Ekong, said that on July 28, 2013 when the children were on holiday, Ita had requested custody of them. He was said to be at his new station in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, at the time.
Ita’s former wife, Mrs. Anietie Ayamba, allegedly heeded his request and took the children to him. Ekong said that the children’s stepmother made life miserable for them.
He said, “It was during their stay in Port Hracourt, that their stepmother took the children to a Pentecostal church. Goodness was accused of witchcraft at the church. Her stepmother was told that Goodness was the person responsible for their father’s non-rising profile in the force.
“The father who was also in the church began to beat and kick Goodness in a bid to extract a confession about her witchcraft.”
When PUNCH Metro visited Immanuel Hospital, Eket, Eket LGA, on Saturday, where Goodness was taken to for medical attention, it was gathered that she had been admitted at the intensive care unit of the children’s ward.
Nurses at the hospital said Goodness’ condition was stable but that her bones and chest cavity had been badly damaged.
A group of women lawyers under the aegis of Federation of International Women Lawyers have said that they would do everything within their power to ensure that Ita was brought to justice.
The state director of the organisation, Mrs. Mary Udonsek, stated that the women would not continue to sit back and allow men maltreat their children on the guise of labelling them witches.
Ita, said to be working at Trans Amadi Police Station, Port Harcourt, Rivers State had allegedly not been to Ibiaku, Mkpat Enin LGA since the incident.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Etim Dickson, said the Rivers State Police Command would be contacted about the matter.
He said, “Messages have been sent across to police area commands in Oron and Ikot Ekpene so that Ita will not have any place to hide once he is in the state.” View More Pic Below

One of our most reliable allies throughout the years, the United Kingdom (which includes England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands) has significantly reduced its holdings of U.S. debt in recent years, falling from its position in the top three to number seven in just two short years. The U.K. definitely has enough debt problems of its own right now, with current public sector debt comprising a heavy 74.5% of GDP.

72-year-old grandfather, Elder statesman, Owerri PDP Chietain and renowned business mogul, Chief Dr Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu traditionally wedded the love of his life, 23-year-old Miss Chinonyerem Enwerem last Saturday, 14th September, 2013....
It was gathered that Chief Emmanuel had paid her bride last year after his wife of more than 40 years, Lady Eudora, with whom he had three sons and five daughters, died on 28 August 2011, aged 63.
According to a family source, "he was distraught when his wife died and wanted to marry her immediately but was convinced by his kinsmen to wait for a while".
Though his children are not in support of the marriage, they have to go along with it as they have been warned by their father to either accept it and co-operate or be cut off, a source revealed.
With the traditional wedding out of the way, the church wedding will hold on September 21st, 2013 and they will be wedded by Rt Rev. Emmanuel Maduwuike, Bishop of Ikeduru Diocese of Anglican Communion at the Bishop's chapel by 10am.

Nigerians reacted on Wednesday to a report alleging that President Goodluck Jonathan accused the citizens of encouraging corruption in the country....

While declaring open the 54th annual conference of the Nigerian Economic Society in Abuja on Tuesday, the President had reportedly said that if Nigerians did not "reward corrupt practices" through their actions, those involved would have no need to continue.
Responding to the statement on the social media, many Nigerians applauded Jonathan's position and then, cautioned him against putting the blame for corruption entirely on them.
The respondents said the President, through his inability to lead by example, had failed to provide a lasting solution to corruption.
Some of those who disapproved of Jonathan's statement said he goofed by casting the first stone.
They went on to accuse him of promoting corruption by granting state pardon to a former Governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, who had been convicted on charges of corruption.
A respondent on punchng.com, Yemy, said Jonathan had demonstrated his tacit support for corrupt Nigerians by granting pardon to Alamieyeseigha.
The reader said, "No doubt that President Goodluck Jonathan is spot on. However, he who comes to equity must come with clean hands. GEJ seems to me a bad advertisement of the product he wants to sell. How would you describe the pardon granted Alamieyeseigha? Is that not rewarding corruption?"
A Facebook user, Prince Oyelola Timothy-Adesanya, argued that since the President inadvertently gave a pass mark to his former boss, who was indicted for corruption by a competent court, he was not morally fit to lecture other Nigerians on the need to shun corrupt individuals.
"Hello Mr. President, it seems you don't know who stands on the wheel chair of corruption. The case study is Alamieyeseigha and the public fund of Bayelsa State. Don't forget your office gave him a pass mark for the wrong doing? Oga Jonathan, who is deceiving who?" Timothy-Adesanya said.
Another respondent on nairaland.com, Batman, noted that since the President encouraged corruption through his actions, he was not in a vantage position to cry foul.
Batman wrote, "He (Jonathan) encourages corruption. So what do you expect everyone under him to do? Why is he the leader? Doesn't he know he is the number one person that should serve as an example? A body always goes where the head tells it to go.
"The moment he (Jonathan) stops waving and smiling sheepishly and takes a tough stance against corruption in high places, see if the chain reaction won't transmit to the grassroots."
But, just as Jonathan urged Nigerians to "frown on people who come up with what they are not supposed to have" with a view to checking corruption, a Facebook user, Bam Olugbenga-Odugbesan, asked, "When your mother (Eunice), a dependant for that matter, donates multimillion naira block of hostels to the Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State and you applaud her without asking where she got the money from, is that not corruption?''
Meanwhile, Jonathan was also rebuked for stating that he would not reveal the identities of those engaged in corrupt practices in both the private and public sectors citing concerns that he could be "attacked."
The statement was described by many people as the President's own way of admitting that he is afraid of fighting corruption.
They hinged their argument on the fact that since he has the state apparatus at his disposal, he should not hesitate to wield such powers rather than express the fear of being "attacked."
"Jonathan, you are the number one citizen of Nigeria and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. Are you scared of some individuals and groups in the public and private sectors?
"If you can't mention their names and punish them, then you are encouraging them with a pat on the back,'' another Nigerian, Okafor Nolly, said on Facebook.
One Abiodun Johnson also noted, "He doesn't have to name names. He could easily arrest and prosecute them. But he is afraid of being attacked! Nigeria is in trouble.''
However, one Tony Are on punchng.com disagreed with Nolly saying, "If the President should mention names. Many of us will say he is attacking his enemies because of his 2015 ambition. Now he is saying nothing and you still call him names."

Here is how the bad guy operates: Ugochukwu Agudosi's mode of operation is to chat up his victims on the BlackBerry as a big boy. Along the line, he would invite them for a date, an offer the girls always fall for because of his posh car and false lifestyle....

But rather than take them to an eatery as anticipated, he would take them to an uncompleted building in Ikeja Government Reserved Area, Lagos, where he used them mercilessly.

Nemesis caught up with Ugochukwu after one of the girls he raped in that manner, who found out she used to be his senior in secondary school, decided to take action.

She reported the 22-year-old undergraduate of Caleb University to the Police, leading to his arrest and he has been arraigned for allegedly raping the lady in an uncompleted building.

He was granted bail and Oguchukwu went ahead to rape another Lagos babe. He is now facing a four-count charge preferred against him by the Police before Magistrate Sule Hamsat.

Surprisingly, when the charge was read to him, Ugochukwu pleaded not guilty. Magistrate Hamsat granted him bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum. But despite the expensive car he drives, he could not meet the N100,000 bail bond, hence he was remanded in prison custody.

According to the Police, “Immediately he raped any of his victims, he would delete their contacts from his BB chat."

The first lady he raped has decided to withdraw from to case to protect her identity, but the latest lady he did it to on August 27, 2013, is said to be ready to pursue the case to conclusion.
