Sometimes, the limelight may prove to be just too much for celebrities. All the relatively easy money being thrown in front of them has a way of blinding them to think that they could afford all the luxuries in life....
They seem to have followed the witty, yet not so wise words of George Best, the Northern Irish football player of Manchester United when he said that he spent “90 percent of money on good times, women and Irish whiskey; the rest, I waste.” Or was baseball pitcher Tug McGraw who said it?
Regardless of who that quote originated from, it just shows that some people have no concept of saving for a rainy day. These stars are prime examples of that. Here is a list of the top 10 celebrities that went from rich to broke in 2013.

10. Kerry Katona

Kerry Katona is a singer and media personality from England. She is known for her work on television where she specializes in light entertainment and reality shows. She is a member of the all-girl group called Atomic Kitten. She is also a commercial model, making endorsement pitches for Iceland and Asda supermarkets. In 2004, she won the third I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! competition. She also placed second in the 2011 Celebrity Big Brother. She already went bankrupt in 2008, but she has not learned her lessons and she is in the red again.
9. Pamela Anderson

Pamela Anderson was the object of a lot of schoolboy’s desire when she was part of the television show called Baywatch. Her skimpy outfit that barely covered her private assets made her an instant celebrity. She also was the subject of a sex tape filmed while she was still going out with rock star Tommy Lee of the band called Motley Crue. Last year, there were reports of financial troubles when she failed to pay contractors rebuilding her home in California. This year, she sold off the house in order to pay off her debt.
8. Antony Costa

Antony Costa is a singer and songwriter who is part of the boy band called Blue. The band achieved success in several countries, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Portugal, Belgium, France, Italy, Australia and New Zealand. Two of their albums, All Rise and One Love, reached the number one spot in the UK. The band also had several hit singles. Costa was also part of the 2005 edition of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! He also tried out a solo singing career. While technically not bankrupt, he became homeless and had to live off $71 per week.
7. Joe Swash

Joe Swash is an actor and presenter from England. He was part of the British television soap opera called Eastenders and was the winner of the 2008 edition of the reality competition called I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! The following year, he was declared bankrupt after failing to pay taxes worth $190,000. He was able to recover, but he failed to sustain it. This year, he got into a lot of problems again after racking up bills amounting to more than $79,000.
6. Jose Canseco

Jose Canseco was a baseball player once known for his fearsome bat. He partnered with home run king Mark McGwire to form one of the lethal combinations during their prime. Both players, however, were disgraced because of the steroid scandal. Canseco is also remembered for once giving up a homerun after the ball he was fielding bounced off his head into the stands. This summer, he ran up debt amounting to more than $1.7 million, of which $500,000 was owed to the IRS. He declared bankruptcy last July.
5. Janice Dickinson

Janice Dickinson is widely known as the first supermodel in the world, or at least, that is how she would like to describe herself. Her heyday was back in the 70′s and 80′s, though she never really left the public eye even as she got older. She was a judge for four seasons of the reality fashion competition show entitled American’s Next Top Model. She even hosted her own reality show that she called The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency. The cost of remaining beautiful took a toll on her, however, as she racked up debts to her plastic surgeons and dermatologists, not to mention her landlord and the IRS as well. She filed for bankruptcy in early 2013.
4. Sinbad

Sinbad is an actor and celebrity. He once starred in his own show entitled The Sinbad Show. He also had roles in several movies, including films such as Necessary Roughness, Houseguest, and Jingle All the Way. In real life, his name is David Adkins and his life is not as funny. He already filed for bankruptcy once before but he was able to recover. You’d think that once bitten, he would be twice shy, but Sinbad actually filed for bankruptcy again this April with a total of $11 million in debt, more than 75 percent of which is to the IRS.
3. Dionne Warwick

Dionne Warwick was known as a hit maker. She actually has the most number of songs that have landed in the pop singles chart outside of Aretha Franklin. Warwick has had 56 hit singles as she has benefitted from the trust given to her by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Warwick, however, does not know the way to frugality and proper spending, amassing $10.7 million in debt, most of which she owes to the IRS. Last March, she declared bankruptcy.
2. Shane Filan

Shane Filan is an Irish singer and songwriter. He used to be part of the boy band called Westlife. The group, however, decided to disband in 2011. Still, Filan felt comfortable because he had invested his earnings in property. Unfortunately, the economic crisis took its toll and the property market collapsed. He is trying to make it as a solo singer, but his debt went up to $30.6 million.
1. Kelly Rutherford

Kelly Rutherford is an actress best known for her role in Gossip Girl. She also appeared in Generations and Melrose Place. In 2008, she filed for divorce against her German husband, who was subsequently deported because of illegal activities. The court, however, ruled that the couple should have equal time with their children. As the ex-husband could not enter the U.S., the court ruled that the kids should live in France with their father, and Rutherford must travel to visit them. In June this year, she filed for bankruptcy because of debts of $2 million due to the divorce and custody dispute.

A CAMBODIAN MAN has revealed that his young grandson has lived partly on milk he suckles directly from a cow since the boy's parents died from sickness.... Um Oeung says 20-month-old Tha Sophat started suckling the cow 10 months ago after he saw a calf do the same. The cow is said to have known that the child suckles it and it goes to the place they usually meet with the boy to give him milk.
Um Oeung told The Associated Press he pulled the boy away at first but the cow grew wild with him. He relented after his grandson protested loudly too and the boy has suckled the cow's milk once or twice a day since then.Tha Sophat has lived with his grandparents in Siem Reap province in northwest Cambodia since his parents passed away.

Today, I thought of many things I would love to have as birthday gifts and the many dreams I am still pursuing. In all of this I'm not losing sight of the fact that if not for God I might have ended up on the street like the many kids and young adults begging for food and some prostituting to make ends meet. If we know the circumstances that force some of these people on the street, we would spare a thought for them. I am where I am today purely by the grace of God and the grace of people who believed in me from the word go.

Recently, I was at the Boys Reform Home, Oregun, Lagos, the discussion I had with the principal Mr. Kotun and much later with the Special Adviser in charge of allremand homes in Lagos set me thinking about the boys and girls on the street. They have dreams too. Can they fulfill those dreams on the street? The answer will likely be no; because I won't be where I am today if I ended up on the street.

For this reason, Mercy Johnson Foundation will be doing a lot to get kids off the street. We are not asking people for money or donation, I will do all I can with the resources God has given me, and with the support of my husband to help get these kids off the street and set them on the path where they can begin to pursue their dreams. I want to plead with people, fans, friends and colleagues to spare a thought for the children on the street. We can begin by educating people around us, parents, the children and people in charge of children (Oga-house help relationship, teacher-student relationship, and others) on the need to treat every child like the future of Nigeria depends on it. And truth be told, our future will not be all that enjoyable if we let the scourge of 'street-children' fester. By then, the rich will begin to cry. I learnt Lagos State Government has 11 homes where most children picked from the streets are kept, reformed and reunited with their families after counseling
.
That is an initiative Mercy Johnson Foundation will be supporting and beyond that we will be going to different states to help spread the message-Get kids off the street, save the future. From tomorrow, I will begin to replay some of the lessons I learnt at the boys' reform home and we all can contribute to getting the kids off the street.

Russia has come up with a novel idea to keep motorists from going over the speed limit – by using topless models to slow them down......
The bare-chested ladies almost brought traffic to a halt as they stood at the side of a highway in the Nizhny Novgorod region of Russia, east of Moscow, on Monday waving 40mph speed signs.

A video of their antics was uploaded to YouTube, and the accompanying caption reads: "When they noticed a car rushing at a speed exceeding 60 kmh (40mph), the maximum speed allowed in Russian cities, the half-naked women raised road signs."

The anti-speeding sex sirens also donned sailor caps, thigh-high boots and suspenders.

Unsurprisingly, most of the drivers who did slow down were men.

The public organisation 'Autodvijenie' from the area organised the flash mob, supported by local police, ahead of a 1 September law change that will mean drivers are only fined for exceeding the speed limit by 20 kmh, instead of 10 kmh.

Russian drivers also broke the rules 59,617,222 times in 2012, often by exceeding speed limits.....

THE British without consulting us amalgamated diverse ethnic groups and christened the union Nigeria. So, a revered northern monarch called the union the mistake of 1914; and, Chief Awolowo referred to Nigeria as a mere geographical expression....


Since Nigeria came into being, we have always been conscious of our ethnic origins. In the 1950s, during our struggle for political emancipation, the northerners wanted to secede over the Nine point programme. More so, the political parties that existed in pre-independence era and first republic were ethnic-based political parties. They’re not national in out-look. The A.G was to the Yorubas what NCNC was to the Igbos, while NPC was owned by the northerners.

When the seemingly intractable crisis in the western region prompted and motivated the five majors to topple the political regime of Sir Tafawa Balewa, it was branded an Igbo coup. Consequently, a counter-coup happened some six months, later; and, the Hausa-Fulani carried out a genocidal decimation of the Igbo population in the north.

This led to the 30-Month Civil War, at the end of which Yakubu Gowon declared that neither side emerged as the winner in the Nigerian-Biafrian civil war. It was no victor , no vanquished. He formulated some programmes, like the NYSC that will help the nation achieve national integration and cohesion.

But, true peace and unity has continued to elude us since then. We look at issues through the prism of ethnicity. We are retrogressing in Nigeria because the issue of ethnic origin is one of the factors that determine those who will occupy exalted positions in our super-structure. When merit is sacrificed on the altar of ethnic origin and religion, backwardness is guaranteed.

It is akin to putting a square peg in a round hole. Nigeria moves in circles as old and tired and incompetent people are recycled in public office in order to ensure balance of power among the ethnic groups. Is Nigeria being led by her first eleven? Mediocre leadership yields infrastructural decay, dysfunctional educational system,and other social ills. It takes a great leader for a country to become a great country.

Contrast what happens in Europe and America with what happens in Nigeria. In the immediate past, Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State relieved non-indigenes in Abia State civil service of their jobs. Accident of birth is the reason their parents are not of Abia state origin. And, they paid dearly for that after they had served for long years in the Abia State civil service. The issue of indigene ship and state of origin as it concerns contesting elective posts and civil service should be addressed holistically by law-makers.

It hurts to hear that a man who lived a greater part of his life in Anambra state should be denied certain privileges in the state because of his state of origin. It is apparent that Nigeria is not practicing true federalism.

The pseudo and lop-sided federalism we practice cannot cater to the exigencies of the time and our peculiar problems. This pseudo-federalism accounts for our stunted national development .

In a true federal state, a man who hails from Anambra state would be able to win election in his state of residence, which is not Anambra state. He will not be labelled omo-Igbo and stereotyped because of his ethnic origins.

The electorate will assess him based on his personal qualities and pedigree and not based on his native tongue and religion. And, the ethnic chauvinism drive and campaign of some ethnic groups in our country does not make for peace and progress.

The slogan of a state in the north is born to rule. This kind of political posture undermines our national unity. Let us see one another as one people and equal partners in the Nigerian Federation.

Lastly, the deportation of destitutes of Igbo extraction from Lagos to Onitsha is an injudicious and insensitive action. Aren’t they Nigerians? Can’t the Lagos state government rehabilitate them and give them a better life in Lagos? So, to where will Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos state deport beggars, who hail from Lagos state? Or, are all Lagosians born with silver spoons in their mouths?

A tipper driver who allegedly impregnated a widow and her daughter in Nsukka has reportedly been burnt to death by son of the widow, Sunday Ugwoke.......


The tipper driver, Sylvester Ezema, attached to Ferguson Nigeria Limited hailed from Akpa Edem, Nsukka Local Government Area, Enugu State and shared a common fence boundary with his widowed lover, Mrs. Ugwoke, according to reports.

He was said to have been having s*xual relationship with the woman’s daughter too, unknown to the widow before he met his death few days ago.

Sylvester was allegedly burnt to death by Sunday, who had warned him to leave his mother alone and stop sleeping with her in his late father’s bedroom, which is adjacent to his room, a warning the deceased defied while he continued with his act.

Defiant Sylvester told all who raised eyebrows about their relationship that the widow was just a family friend. Sunday, who according to reports had his proof was not going to let the unholy act continue.

A murder probe has been launched after a teenager found his mother’s body stuffed in a freezer at their US home....


Shannon Herrin, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene after police were called to the property in Mineral Wells,Texas, at 6.30pm on Thursday.

Her 19-year old son made the “startling discovery” after he had gone to the family’s freezer in search of food, Mineral Wells Chief of Police Dean Sullivan said.

Officers have interviewed the teen, as well as Herrin’s husband, other family members and neighbours but the death remains a mystery. Cops have found no evidence to suggest foul play and no arrests have been made. Sullivan told Mineral Wells Index that there was no “immediately determinable” cause of death.

Sullivan also said that it is “too early to speculate (or rule out) an accident”. “There were no outward signs of trauma to the body. But we are investigating this case as a homicide until the medical examiner determines the cause of death” Sullivan told The News.

The 38 year-old’s body has been transferred to Dallas for an autopsy where police will await details from the medical examiner.

When Nigerian movie industry otherwise known as Nollywood, kicked off about twenty years ago, themes of witchcraft, ritualism and greed that dominated some of the early movies....


Today, the practice has shifted and lovers of the country’s films are helplessly being compelled to watch obscene movies which promotes immorality and cultures that are alien to us as Africans.

Indeed, recent survey has shown that pornographic movies are increasingly taking over Nollywood. Ardent followers of the recent development in the industry would have noticed the disturbing increase in the degree of nudity portrayed in some of the recent Nollywood flicks.

Regrettably, Nollywood actors have thrown caution to the wind as they now venture into hard core pornographic roles. The internet, ‘YouTube’, is not helping matters as it is one avenue frenquently used by these desperate, and ‘materialistic’ soft-pron producers to gain wide popularity for such obscene movies.

This, however, paved the way for the popularity of Ghollywood movies in the country, as Nigerians, out of curiosity, patronized Ghanaian films just to see how far they were willing to go with this obscenity. But today, the story has changed. Nollywood practitioners who have been very conservative when it comes to displaying sex and nudity on screen, are now leading the way with the production of pornographic movies.

Some of the soft-porn movies that have flooded the Nigerian and African markets in the past few years includes; “The Benjamins, Greedy Sex, Room 027, Another Game of Men, Bold 5 Babes, Bedroom Assassins , All My Ladies, My Pretty Angel, Take My Wife(Pretty Wild Things), Pool Party and I slept with My Bosses Wife. Interestingly, the production of gay movies too are also on the increase.

Last year, popular producer Dickson Iroegbu, released a gay movie, “Law 58” which starred Kanya. O.Kanyo, who played the lead character, Clarion Chukwurah, Halima Abubakar, Ghanaian actor, Kofi Adjorlolo, Mark Morris, Chibueze, and other Nollywood stars.

Also, gay movies like, Pregnant Hawkers, Sinful Act 1&2 and also a Yoruba movie, titled, “Lesbian” were also released into the market. Still on soft-porn movies, the most recent of these hardcore porn movies is “Destructive Instincts”, produced recently and starring Nigerian born American actress cum producer, Judith Opara Mazagwu popularly known as Afro Candy.

In the movie, Afro Candy played the role of a seductive mistress; with a steamy sex scene where a male actor was grappling her bare breasts and buttocks.

Her boldness and unrepentant attitude about her act was attested to when she took to her facebook page asking for actors who could act nude roles and are interested in being a part of her production to get in touch with her. Shortly after the noise about Afrocandy and the lewd scenes, another soft-porn movie , “The “Benjamins” surfaced with its trailer.

The movie produced by Charles Smooth X Edegbe and directed by Temple Chinedum is a high class campus movie based on rap music and love. According to some critics, the movie isn’t worth releasing because, it was a sheer display of obscenity and mediocrity. However, it is on record that soft porn movies started flooding Nigerian movie markets about two years ago, when controversial actress,

Tonto Dike starred in “ “Strippers in Love”, a soft-porn movie produced by Divine Touch Productions. Scenes from the movie showed Tonto kissing another female cast and x-rated scenes with another actor. She had earlier starred in “Dirty Secrets.”

Apparently, with these kinds of unholy movies dominating the Nigerian movie space, questions are being asked today regarding the future of Nollywood. Many people are of the opinion that the current trend which must be discouraged remains a degradation of values that we hold as Africans. -

This was made known by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. C. C. Asiabaka during an interaction with a delegation from the Department of Automobile Engineering, Technical University, Munich, Germany who were in the University on a collaboration visit to the University....
He further disclosed that the collaboration with Technical University, Munich, Germany would enhance the quality of the electric car to be produced by the University as four (4) FUTO Ph.D students will be working with selected postgraduate students from the Technical University, Munich, Germany on the project. He disclosed that a major fallout of the project would be the development of a functional Department of Automobile Engineering by FUTO. He also noted that the project would be a marriage between research and the Industry.

In his presentation, the Team leader of the delegation from Technical University, Munich, Germany stated that the “Africar” project was a specially designed concept for developing an electronic vehicle in meeting about 95% mobility needs of the people of the sub-Saharan Africa. He further stated that similar projects have been completed in Europe and Asia and the “Africar” would be affordable, environmentally-friendly with electronic architecture and produced with local content materials. He also added that the “Africar” project has been designed to meet the peculiar needs of Nigerians.

The Project Co-ordinator of the “Africar” project, Engr Prof O. M. I. Nwafor stated that the realisation of the “Africar” project would mark a major breakthrough in technological advancement in the country with FUTO in the driving seat. He added that the tripartite collaboration between FUTO, Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo and the Technical University, Munich, Germany would strengthen the final phases in the production of the “Africar”.

In his contribution at the occasion, the Rector of Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo, Rev Fr. Dr Wence Madu disclosed that the project would revolutionise the automobile industry in the country.

The delegation later inspected the Automoblie Workshop and other relevant facilities in the University.

Body odor, just like mouth odor, is an unpleasant thing that anybody can grapple with....
Medically referred to as bromhidrosis, experts say body odor occurs when the bacteria on the skin's surface breaks down sweat into acid, releasing malodorous chemical compounds in the process.

Here are some ways you can prevent Body Odor:

1. Bathe with warm water in the morning, at night and after any strenuous activity. Warm water kills off bacteria that are present on the skin.


2. Use an antibacterial soap to wash areas that are prone to body odor.

3. Dust your underarms, your groin area and beneath the breasts with baking soda. This will absorb odor and prevent moisture that provides the ideal environment for odor-causing bacteria.

4. Soak a wash cloth in apple cider vinegar and wipe down areas of the body that contain bad odor. Be sure to get in-between fat rolls and other areas where moisture can accumulate.

- Follow the vinegar application with a clean dry wash cloth to remove excess moisture. If the skin is not thoroughly dried, odor-causing bacteria can accumulate and fungus may grow.

5. Use a crystal rock stick in place of deodorant. It will not reduce perspiration, but it will balance out the pH level on the skin, thereby reducing the development of odor-causing bacteria.

6. Chew parsley to neutralize body odor. The chlorophyll will even out the body's pH levels.

7. Carry baby wipes with you so you can wipe areas where odor occurs. Throughout the day, use a wipe under the arms and around the groin area.

8. Clothing: natural fibres allow your skin to breathe, resulting in better evaporation of sweat. Natural-made fibres include wool, silk or cotton.
