It's a work visa scam. Employers in UK are required to issue certificates of sponsorship to employees coming from overseas or even based in UK on a study visa and wants to convert to work visa. So COS scam involves asking people to pay let's say N8m to N10m inorder to buy them a job slot through which they can get their certificate of sponsorship. They need this certificate before applying for visa.

COS - certificate of sponsorship. This is issued by companies that have home office license to employ immigrants that meet certain criteria. Every visa must have a sponsor.

Study visa cos is issued by the school that admitted the person.

Skilled worker visa cos is sponsored by licensed employer.

Upon forwarding the cos to the home office then the visa is issued to the person sponsored.
