Politics / Ekiti State Government Read Riot Act To Contractors by AngelGabbyShara(m): 11:53am
Ekiti State government on Thursday read the riot act to contractors handling various road projects in the state, directing them to comply with the local content laws of the State.

Speaking with journalists in Ado-Ekiti while monitoring the compliance of the law, the Director General, Bureau of Local Content in Ekiti State, Olalekan Ijidale said the law stipulates that 40% of Ekiti indigene are expected to be employed by the contractors.

He disclosed that the contractors are expected to employ artisans both skilled and unskilled from Ekiti State in the execution of the projects that are being funded through tax payers monies.

He revealed that the Bureau will soon begin enforcement for the compliance of the law and review the working conditions of these companies that make it difficult for Ekiti indigenes to gain employment.

He said: “We are out to enforce local content law as being amended and to ensure that the compliance rate is improved. We have met with the contractors about two or three meetings to explain to them and synergise together on how Ekiti can be partners in the execution of projects in the state.

“We have a law now in Ekiti State that was accented by the governor and passed by the House of Assembly. The law stated that local content project execution should be minimum of 40% and we want to see at what rate our people comply.

“If government are pushing out contracts worth several billions by monies being paid by tax payers, the contractors should also do their bid by including our artisans both skilled and unskilled in the execution of those projects.

“We discovered that these companies bring in a lot of people from other states even in Cotonou to execute projects in the state and Nigeria and we see a lot of people in that locality still struggling to get a job. This is what we want to reduce and ensure that our artisans are partnered. We want to ensure that our skilled and professionals are patronised.

“That is why our governor insist that our people both skilled and unskilled are patronised and we do this by enforcement because people are not ready to comply.

“We have started orientation and collaboration with professional bodies. We are trying to orientate our people towards the execution of their skills. Some of these companies, their conditions are not favourable. We need to mediate between the two.”

The monitoring exercise was carried out at Step Development Ltd at Okesha, Immobilare Construction Ltd handling the Ado-Iworoko road and Lead Gate Construction Ltd handling the Ilawe-Erinjiyan and Ilawe-Igede roads in the State.

According to the Manager of Lead Gate Construction Ltd, Adejubi Adeolu, the company has a workforce of 30 skilled and unskilled staff while 8 skilled workers are indigenes and all the unskilled are indigenes. He revealed that all their materials are sourced locally.

Eminent political leaders, including, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, former Governor Niyi Adebayo and others, on Friday, stormed Imesi Ekiti, Ayekire Local Government Area, as the remains of the former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Barrister Paul Omotosho were interred in his countryhome.

Omotosho, a former Commissioner in three different ministries in the state and one time APC State Secretary, died on March 5, during a brief illness. He was aged 60.

Omotosho's bodies were later buried at his residence along Ikare road in Imesi Ekiti, after a burial service held in his honour at Saint James' Anglican Church.

During the church service, President Tnubu, in his condolence message read by his Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters(House of Representatives), Hon Ibrahim Olanrewaju , described Omotosho as a consummate politician, who served Ekiti and Nigeria zealously in his life time.

The President stated that the deceased demonstrated high sense of loyalty and industry to Ekiti cause and performed creditably well in the tasks he was saddled with. This, the President stated remained the most credible consolation for all Ekiti indigenes.

"As much as I agree that the death of Barrister Paul Omotosho was a painful exit, we have to be consoled by the fact he served well as a Chairman of our great party, Secretary and as a Commissioner. His footprints were there for everyone to see.

"May the good Lord grant his family and the good people of the state the fortitude to bear the loss", Tinubu prayed.

Governor Oyebanji in his remarks during the service said death is not the end of life, but a mere physical separation of soul from the body.

Oyebanji stated that the party and Omotoso's admirers will never forget him for being the first State Chairman to produce two governors back to back, describing the feat as wondrous and enigmatic in the political history of the progressives in Ekiti.

The Governor commended the deceased for giving his best to the state in every sphere he found himself, saying this is one of the the best ways to keep his memory alive.

As a mark of honour for the deceased, Oyebanji donated a sum of N5 million to the Church on behalf of the family, while also announcing a donation of one million naira each on behalf of Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele; former Governor Kayode Fayemi and former Governor Niyi Adebayo to the church.

"We will make sure that we immortalise him as a government .We won't forget him so soon, because he did well for our state and humanity.

"I appeal to the family to be strong, only God can comfort you. The good deeds your father had done were enough to make you live a good life after him", Governor Oyebanji added.

In his sermon, the Anglican Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Olusola Ajayi , appealed to Nigerian citizens to be circumspect of death that will come to both the rich and poor at the appointed time, by shunning corrupt practices and other devious actions that are common to humanity.

The Bishop stated that the aggregate of the accounts of testimonies given by people about Omotosho buttressed the fact that he had lived a fulfilled and impactful life, saying this substantiated that humanity can still make good exploits within a short time of his sojourn on earth.

"We are strangers in this world and you have to determine whom you have you chosen to follow, either God or devil? Run away from sins and hold the pillar of Christ that can be your best refuge when you leave this world.

"Paul Omotosho had given his best in his service to God and humanity, what is next for him is judgement. You need to ask yourselves, where am I going after living this world, heaven or hell? Think about this and make the right decision today for your days to be glorious on earth and in heaven".

… as Chancellor announces N1billion agribusiness innovation fund for students, graduands

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has restated the commitment of his administration to ensuring that every child in the state has access to quality and compulsory education, noting that education remains a weapon in ensuring social, political, and economic growth of any society.

Governor Oyebanji made this known on Wednesday at the 28th convocation ceremony of the Ekiti state university, Ado Ekiti just as the newly inducted Chancellor of the University, Dr Tunji Olowolafe, announced a one billion naira agribusiness empowerment fund for products of the institution as a way to boost agriculture and food security.

Governor Oyebanji who attended the EKSU convocation as the first alumnus of the school to become Governor of the state and Visitor to the University, said his government remains committed to ensuring that educational institutions in the state were capable of competing with their peers globally.

Governor Oyebanji said his administration has demonstrated commitment to development of education sector from primary to tertiary institutions which include renovation of more than 200 secondary schools, distribution of laptops to students across the state, disbursement bursary and scholarship to students of Ekiti origin in tertiary institutions of learning including Law School, increment of subvention to all state owned tertiary institutions, among others.

Recalling that Ekiti was recently ranked as the highest in school enrollment in the country, the Governor assured that his government would continue to ensure the state has zero percent out-of-school children across the country.

While appreciating the University’s governing council and management for being a partner in progress, the Governor called for more conscious, creative, ingenious and concerted development of strategies for generating additional funds so as to reduce dependence on government subventions.

Governor Oyebanji also urged the University management to justify the increase in their subvention by showing greater commitment to work, avoid incessant strike actions, and allow for smooth running of the academic calendar so that students were not unduly delayed.

While congratulating the graduands, Oyebanji charged them to always remember to give back to their alma-mata.

“We are gathered here today to celebrate scholarship, success, and the result of hard work. As we all know, education remains a weapon in ensuring social, political, and economic growth in any society. This is why we will continue to support the education sector. We are committed to ensuring our educational institutions are of the highest standards that can compete globally.

“A demonstration of this commitment can be seen in our various interventions in the sector from primary to tertiary institutions. It is, therefore, a thing of pride to note that Ekiti is ranked one of the highest in school enrollment in Nigeria and one of the states with the least out-of-school children with 2.5%. We are working hard to ensure we have 0% out-of-school children in our state.

“Just a few months ago, we increased the subventions to all Ekiti State - owned tertiary institutions, including the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital significantly. As much as the government is ready to continue to play its part in the funding of tertiary education of the state, the university must find ways and means of supplementing whatever the government is able to give. There must be conscious, creative, ingenious, and concerted development of strategies for generating additional funds so as to reduce dependence on government subventions”. The Governor stated.

Earlier, in his address, the newly inaugurated Chancellor of the University, Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, who appreciated the Governor for the opportunity to serve, pledged his unflinching commitment to the growth and development of the institution.

Dr. Olowolafe, a trained medical doctor turned businessman announced a one billion naira innovation fund to empower agro-technology companies founded by the latest graduands and current students of the institution.

This is in addition to the establishment of an endowment agenda to offer support and subsidies for up to 30 academic staff members so as to facilitate their participation in international conferences, training sessions, and research activities as well as creation of a platform for 100 of the brightest students from EKSU to engage in resourceful and sustainable work for skills acquisition and development.

Dr Olowolafe noted that it has become imperative for graduates and undergraduates in Nigeria to get actively involved in activities geared towards supporting food security , innovation and strategic entrepreneurship in the current circumstance.

He suggested that students take land lease arrangements for agricultural purposes adding that special awards could also be given to outstanding agriculture entrepreneurs in addition to academic honours.

“Mr. Vice Chancellor sir, as we give awards to best academic students, we can also give awards to best agro entrepreneurs on campus. Some can do grains while others do vegetables. Some can do poultry whilst others can do fisheries. Some can even do logistics whilst others do apps."
He stated.

He urged the graduands and undergraduates to endeavour to take a needs assessment of their environments to see resources that could be tapped into emphasising that youths need to think wider than their narrow fields of study.

Dignitaries at the ceremony include the Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Adeoye Aribasoye; Commissioner for Finance, Mr Akin Oyebode; Secretary to the State Government, Dr( Mrs) Habibat Adubiaro; traditional rulers among others.

He said President Tinubu's 72nd birthday offers an opportunity to celebrate a life that is dedicated to the service of fatherland and humanity in general. This, he said, is in addition to thanking God for giving Nigeria a man of courage as its leader at a critical time like this.

Governor Oyebanji described President Tinubu as an uncommon statesman who sacrificed his all by opting to be an opposition leader at the height of military dictatorship in the country and fighting with other patriotic leaders to ensure the restoration of democracy to Nigeria.

According to him, President Tinubu is a consistent politician who understands the game of politics and intricacies of leadership which he sees as an opportunity to touch the lives of the masses. This, according to the Governor, has been demonstrated times without number through the President’s actions, policies and interventions.

He described the nation's leader as "the most prepared President ever" by his evolution as a freedom fighter, a pro-democracy activist, a legislator, a governor and an opposition leader who transited to the Presidency to crown a stellar political career.

Hailing he President’s decision not to mark his birthday with any form of celebration this year in view of the mood of the nation, Governor Oyebanji said the President’s action is a reflection of his selflessness and sensitivity as a true leader of the people.

Governor Oyebanji assured President Tinubu that the government and people of Ekiti State would continue to support his administration even as they wish him a happy birthday and more years of bliss and impact.

“On behalf of the Government and good people of Ekiti State, the Land of Honour, I wish our dear President and leader a happy birthday and pray that the years ahead be lived in good health and crowned with greater impact.”, the Governor added.

Politics / Group Hails Oyebanji’s Development Strides Despite Low Federal Allocation by AngelGabbyShara(m): 10:23am On Mar 21
Group hails Oyebanji’s development strides despite low federal allocation

An interest group, Ekiti Professionals has hailed Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s development strides in Ekiti State, in spite of the paltry amount the state receives monthly from the federation account.

Ekiti State is among the states with the lowest allocation from the federation account, but with massive infrastructure and huge investments in the lives of the citizens to show for it.

The group, in a statement in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, cited Governor Oyebanji’s innovative style and prudence in the management of the state’s resources as two factors responsible for the economic and infrastructure development in the state.

The Group’s statement which was signed by its President, Kola Oyeniyi and Secretary, Stephen Olusegun, referenced the February allocation to the states, where Ekiti got N6.9 billion, which was second to the lowest allocation among the 36 states, while Delta, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa states got N38.1 billion, N26.6 billion and N22.8 billion respectively.

“In spite of the low allocation, it is gratifying to note that development strides of the Biodun Oyebanji administration remain unmatched by many of the states with huge allocations.

“This speaks to one thing- Governor Oyebanji, through prudent management of the little resources accrued to the state from the federation account and its internally generated revenue, has been able to impact the lives of the citizens through various programmes, policies and projects that have stimulated economic growth and make lives more enjoyable for the people.

“Governor Oyebanji has consistently paid salaries and pensions and other emoluments as and when due, he has so many road projects going on simultaneously in different parts of the state and has made huge investment in power infrastructure, education, health care and human capital development.

“The recent N12billion economic relief package of the Oyebanji government remains one of the most effective by any state government in terms of the diverse nature of the people captured under the programme”, the group said.

While the group lauded the Governor’s deployment of technology to boost the internally generated revenue, it urged the citizens of the state to cooperate with the government in the payment of their taxes, stressing that the results are glaring for all to see that the tax payers’ money is well utilised in Ekiti State.
Politics / Oyebanji Disburses ₦‎500 Million Gratuities To Pensioners by AngelGabbyShara(m): 12:39pm On Mar 19
…..Says commitment to infrastructure devt will not affect workers, pensioners’ welfare

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has assured pensioners in the state that his administration has concluded plans to make disbursement of N200million monthly gratuities to them henceforth, promising to also review pensions in line with current realities.

Governor Oyebanji, who gave this assurance while disbursing over N500million in gratuity cheques to 152 pensioners in Ado- Ekiti on Monday, also promised to review the monthly pension following the discovery that some pensioners still receive abysmally low amount as monthly pension.

The Governor expressed his disapproval for the usual gathering of elderly people in a hall for the purpose of disbursing gratuity cheques to them, and directed the PTAD office to ensure they disburse gratuity on monthly basis henceforth.

The Governor, who also assured pensioners that government has started working out modalities to defray over N40Billion owed, said he had already approve N100million each for both state and local government retirees which must be disbursed on monthly basis to deserving pensioners.

According to him, “Forty Billion is just a number, I don’t think that is something we should not be able to resolve, I am in constant discussion with the committee that is doing this, they are almost done, we are looking at the best deal that will be acceptable to you and government. Once, we get to that level, we should be able to make a very definite mark on that number.

“I have approved that local government and state pensioners should be paid N100million every month for gratuity. I have just increased that of local government from N50million to N100million. So, every month, apart from pension, we will be paying N200million and I believe that will go a long way till we resolve the issue on ground.

“There is no need accumulating the money, it should be paid to the pensioners immediately they receive it. We don’t have to be coming here to be distributing cheques again, I don’t think it is necessary again. I am not doing this for political reason.”

Governor Oyebanji assured citizens of the state that his efforts at infrastructural development of the state would not in anyway affect his shared prosperity agenda for the people as he stressed the need for political leaders to be futuristic in attending to issues that concern the populace.

“On the concern raised by people on some quarters, that infrastructure development programme of his administration would negatively affect his welfare programmes, we are going to do the two together, because Ekiti State belongs to everybody and we must be futuristic. Ado was not like this when the state was created, we agreed to do the flyover because, we did traffic study of that place and we discovered that in the next five years, with the rate Ado is growing and if we wait till then, there will be chaos in town.

“It was a risk we took to do that and most of our infrastructural programmes are strategically thought out. As a leader, I have learnt to be futuristic, if we spend all our resources on welfare and palliatives, what happen to yet to be born children of Ekiti, so we must lay a very solid foundation for them. That is what we are doing with infrastructure and agriculture. We are investing heavily in agriculture so as to ensure that what happened this year is not allowed to happen next year.”, The Governor said

Speaking further, Governor Oyebanji to expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting the state saying without him, Ekiti would not have been able to achieve any meaningful development.

“As you are praying for me, please pray for President Tinubu, as president, he inherited both the assets and liabilities, part of the liabilities he inherited is a challenged economy, all these hardship is not caused by the president, but God had prepared him for a moment like this. I keep wondering what would have happened to Nigeria if we had a president that is not Asiwaju, that is not as prepared, that is not as courageous. He is the first president in this country that doesn’t have a godfather, so, nobody can harass him.

He stated in their separate goodwill messages, the Chairmen, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Elder Joel Akinola; Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Kolapo Olatunde; Trade Union Congress, Comrade Sola Adigun and Joint Negotiating Council, Comrade Babafemi Ajoloko, commended Governor Oyebanji on his various efforts at changing that narratives by ensuring that workers and pensioners enjoy a new lease of life in the state.

Also at the event were Secretary to the State Government, Dr Habibat Adubiaro, Head of Service, Engr. Sunday Komolafe, members of the state executive council, body of Permanent Secretaries among others.

Politics / Oyebanji: Tinubu’s Support Responsible For Infrastructure Upgrade In Ekiti by AngelGabbyShara(m): 4:52pm On Mar 15
President Tinubu’s support responsible for infrastructure upgrade in Ekiti, says Oyebanji

…..As Governor concludes three -day project inspection

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji has cited the unwavering support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu - led Federal Government for his ability to sustain the massive infrastructure upgrade going on in different parts of the state.

Governor Oyebanji, Who disclosed this Thursday evening in Ado-Ekiti at the conclusion of his three - day inspection of road projects across the state, said the surge in infrastructure development across the state was as a result of additional money the state is receiving from the Federal Government under President Tinubu’s current economic policy.

Oyebanji said his government has been able to take care of all basic responsibilities to citizens and workers as well as take care of its obligations to contractors leading to a remarkable number of projects at different level of completion across the state. This, he said, was made possible because of the additional funding.

No fewer than 25 ongoing road projects were inspected during the three days of project monitoring. They include: the Okeyinmi fly over bridge; Ado-Ekiti Ring Road; Igede- Ilawe Road; Erijinyan-Ilawe Road; Ikogosi-Igbara Road; Ikere-Igbara-Odo Road; Ado-Akure Road; Ikere-Ise-Emure Road; Ikere-Ado Road, Ikere –Ilawe road; GRA road dualisation and GRA 3rd Extension road.

Others are Omisanjana-Alasia-Deeper Life –Atlas road; Agric Olope- Moferere Road; Ado-iworoko-Ifaki roda; Hospital Management Board road; Jimoh Aliu Road; Isinbode-Ara-Ikole Road; Ikole Township road; Itapa-Ijelu-Omu road; Ijero township road; Ayegunle-Ijurin-Iloro/Ipoti-Ilukuno road.

Governor Oyebanji, in a brief encounter with residents during the inspection, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his continuous support to the state. “For all these projects, we should thank God, and we should thank the President who is supporting us in Ekiti. If you will remember, when he came here to campaign, he told Ekiti people that I am his son and he will help me. The President stands by me and he’s helping me, I can’t lie.

“All the money we are spending on these projects is as a result of the additional money we got from the federal government which was made possible by the President, who took the bull by the horn, effected some economic changes that resulted in more money for the state. If not, where would we have gotten the money to do all these projects?”, he retorted.

The Governor who called on the people to show understanding for the President’s programmes and policies, said President Tinubu was fully prepared for the task of taking Nigeria to the promised land, adding however, that the current hardship could be described as necessary pangs that usually precede child delivery.

“The president is courageous and he is on top of the situation. He needs our prayers and support and I am sure we shall all smile at the end of the day because the policies are well intentioned.” He added.

Speaking on his observation on quality of work done on the roads, Governor Oyebanji said he was satisfied with the pace and quality of work done by the contractors, adding that most of them are working towards the set deadlines.

The Governor said he is particularly happy to note that that people in different communities have taken ownership of the projects in their communities, a development he said is in line with the administration’s development agenda.

He said the inspection was to ensure that the contractors adhere strictly to the terms of their contracts so that the people can have value for their money, adding that the huge volume of projects being undertaken simultaneously would not in any way affect government’s unwavering commitment to regular payment of salaries of workers, pensions and other obligations.

“I am satisfied with the quality of work. I have not seen any contractor that has not done well, so am really happy with level of work done with the commitment and with the communal ownership of the projects by the people.”

Olawande commends the launch of OSNI*

....Describes it as a significant boost to the NIYA initiative of the Youth Ministry.

The Minister of State for Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande has commended the launch of the Outsource to Nigeria Initiative (OSNI) by Vice President Kashim Shettima, adding that it would offer a great boost to the ongoing efforts to curb youth unemployment in the country through the soon-to-be launched Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA).

Olawande, who gave the commendation today in Abuja, said
the Nigerian Youth Academy, initiated by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, is aimed at training youths in market driven skills that will empower them to contribute significantly to the economic development of the country

Performing the launch in Gombe on Monday, the Vice President noted that the OTNI is a strategic initiative to redirect the talents and skills that abound in the country and to deliver millions of job opportunities.

"Today, we are not just presenting to you the Outsource to Nigeria Initiative (OTNI) with the honourable aim of taking over the world; we present to you a lens to see the needs of the world, a bridge to interact with the world, and a vehicle to reach the world from the comfort of your offices and homes in Nigeria," the Vice President had said.

Speaking further on the launch which he described as *"another huge step in the fight against youth unemployment,"* the Minister said the OTNI would now offer a more extensive platform for the utilization of the skills and talents that the NIYA would spring.

According to him, "What we are planning to do with the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYa) is to provide free training in all high-demand skill areas, and to also make the platform a meeting point for all the youths we train and employers who wish to engage their services. OTNI has just expanded the opportunities we hope to deliver with NiYA."

Olawande, who said many youths in Nigeria would soon have no excuse to remain idle, emphasized that OTNI's digital platform, WorkNation, with the objective of helping partners find, train and deploy talents, would greatly expand the reach and impact of NIYA.

"Collaboration is key in government business. So, I'm already envisaging a collaboration in which WorkNation serves as a sort of off taker for some of the youths we train in NiYA, thereby providing more extensive job openings beyond the academy," the Minister maintained.

OYEBANJI'S WIFE LAUNCHES ADIRE EKITI HUB AS 200 YOUTHS COMMENCE TRAINING

.Governor Says Scheme Will Turn Job Seekers to Job Creators

Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, on Monday unveiled a local fabrics empowerment scheme and training centre, Adire Ekiti Hub, to give economic empowerment to the unemployed and widows in the state.

A total of 200 beneficiaries drawn from Ekiti Central Senatorial District began the training sponsored by Governor Biodun Oyebanji and his wife in partnership with the Nike Okundaye Art Foundation. Two batches of 200 participants each drawn from Ekiti North and Ekiti South senatorial districts are to commence training by next week.

The Adire Ekiti Hub which has the main building and workshop was commissioned by the wife of the Ooni of Ife, Olori Aderonke Ogunwusi to the admiration of the Governor, the First Lady and other guests present.

The First Lady, Dr. Oyebanji said the Adire Ekiti would benefit the state in the areas of provision of sustainable livelihoods, promotion of entrepreneurship, creation of opportunities for economic empowerment and preservation of cultural heritage in the Land of Honour.

The Governor's wife, who is also the initiator of Widows and Orphans Hope (WAOH) Project, said she envisioned "a community of skilled artisans, vibrant entrepreneurs and a thriving Adire industry that contributes to the growth and prosperity of Ekiti State."

The beneficiaries are expected to undergo two weeks intensive training on the intricacies of tie and dye at the training facility dedicated for the project which was commissioned by Governor Oyebanji as part of the events of the day.

The building housing the Adire Ekiti Hub was donated by the former lawmaker representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly and immediate past Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu.

But Dr. Oyebanji said the opening of the Adire Ekiti Hub marked the beginning of a new chapter for the people of the state which holds the promise of long term benefits for the beneficiaries, local economy and building a brighter future for the coming generations.

She said: "The Adire Ekiti Hub represents a platform for creativity, skill development, and collaboration. It is a symbol of our commitment to nurturing talent, fostering innovation and building a brighter future for the people of Ekiti State.

"Through this initiative, we envision a community of skilled artisans, vibrant entrepreneurs, and a thriving Adire industry that contributes to the growth and prosperity of our state."

Governor Oyebanji who charged the beneficiaries to make use of the opportunity offered by the Adire Ekiti scheme which include self sustenance, productivity and becoming job creators rather than job seekers emphasized that "provision of palliatives cannot solve Nigeria's problems."

He promised that his administration would support the beneficiaries to stand on their own, give them opportunities to access soft loans and market advising anyone among them who saw the scheme as another opportunity for free money to perish the thought as they will be strictly monitored to follow the terms of the scheme.

The Governor said: "Government cannot give everybody employment; it is good to be educated, your education will prepare you to do better in whatever area of life you find yourself so, don't see this as a share of the national cake. The challenges we have with programmes like this will be put behind you to ensure that you overcome them.

"We are going to hand-hold you, to train you and not to leave you alone because that is the problem of many government interventions. We are going to monitor you to the level that you will become independent and become employers of labour. If we do 200 per senatorial district, that is 600 (across the state) and you can now know the multiplier effects.

"A time is coming when all of you will not be able to meet up with the demands (for your product), that is what I want to see. By the time we are doing one year anniversary of this project, we will call you back to tell your success stories."

Senator Ojudu who praised the Governor and how wife for their commitment to empowering ordinary citizens emphasized that "the wealth of the nation lies in the skills of its people."

The wife of the Ooni, Olori Ogunwusi, said Adire Ekiti is a platform for capacity development, skills acquisition, job creation and wealth creation in addition to being a major part of the cultural heritage of the Yoruba people.

The Founder/Chief Executive Officer, Nike Art Foundation, Chief Nike Okundaye, described Adire Ekiti as "the next big thing that will happen in creative economy" stressing her readiness to assist in ensuring growth of the hub to prominence and a springboard for empowerment in local craft.

Mrs. Okundaye, who was represented by Mrs. Nneka Moses of Goge Africa, urged the stakeholders to support Mr. Oyebanji, whom she described as a "visionary Governor" and his wife, Dr. Oyebanji in rewriting a new chapter in the Ekiti story for the world to see."

While appreciating the Governor for bringing her on board, Mrs. Okundaye pledged the full support of her Foundation in ensuring that the beneficiaries get the best of training in preparation for their foray into the market and to also train others in the art of Adire making.

It also include the free bus service for students and workers within Ado-Ekiti and Ikere-Ekiti, which will now be extended to Ekiti State University (EKSU) and other major towns; and the distribution of food items to the 177 wards of the State being coordinated by the Local Government Councils and Community Development Associations.

All these are in addition to ongoing infrastructure projects across the State, boosting power supply to critical areas including connecting the EKSU Campus to the IPP; which will also help lower the cost of logistics- a big driver of commodity prices; the free malaria treatment for elderly citizens and children as well as free delivery for pregnant women at all primary health care centres across the state.

Governor Oyebanji assured the people of the state of his administration’s commitment to the welfare and wellbeing of the citizens, urging them to cooperate with government at the local, state and federal levels as concerted efforts are being made not only to cushion the effect of the economic situation, but to grow the economy in line with the shared prosperity agenda of the administration and the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Edo Primaries: Fayemi commends Tinubu, Ganduje; slams Oshiomhole's interference

Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the immediate past Governor of Ekiti State and ex-Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), has commended the Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje-led National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the decision to cancel and reschedule the controversial gubernatorial primaries in Edo State.

He noted that this decision had restored the confidence of members of the Edo State chapter of the Party in a fair, impartial, and transparent exercise and showed that the APC is interested in producing a popular candidate.

Fayemi also applauded the President and Leader of the Party, HE Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for not interfering and allowing due process on the issue of the APC gubernatorial primaries in Edo State.

“I wish to thank the President for allowing the Party to function independently on this sensitive issue and thus assure our teeming members in Edo State that the process for the gubernatorial primaries will be free, fair, and transparent,’’ he said.

Fayemi, however, strongly condemned the questionable role of Senator Adams Oshiomhole, a former governor of the state and National Chairman of the APC, in the truncation of the initial exercise.

He recalled that Oshiomhole had also played a disruptive role in the last gubernatorial election in Edo State, which ultimately made the APC lose the state to the opposition.

“Ideally, as a leader, he should have ensured a level playing field for all the aspirants but he was trying to impose a candidate in a manner that's not free and fair, ‘’ he said.

Fayemi added: ‘’Earlier, Oshiomhole had attempted to eliminate some aspirants from contesting in the primaries and failed. This is reminiscent of his high-handedness as National Chairman when he manipulatively schemed Governor Godwin Obaseki out of the electoral process. That action led to the unfortunate loss of Edo State by the APC.

"It would appear the ground was being prepared by Oshiomhole yet again for the APC to lose the coming election in Edo state because of his unconscionable behaviour. However, the party has demonstrated independence and impartiality in cancelling and reordering the primaries.

’We hope the fresh primaries will now take place in an atmosphere deemed free and fair by all, for the sake of our great party.

‘’Oshiomhole may decide to support any of the aspirants if he chooses not to be neutral but the process must be open, free, and transparent, following the laid down rules. My interest is the APC and the party must put its best foot forward in the forthcoming elections.’’

Politics / Oyebanji To LG Bosses: Monthly Security Council Meetings Now Mandatory by AngelGabbyShara(m): 5:34pm On Feb 21
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has mandated Chairmen of Local Government and Local Council Development areas in the state to start holding security council meetings as part of efforts to tackle insecurity headlong in their various areas.

Governor Oyebanji who gave the directive on Wednesday during a security meeting with all council chairmen and heads of security agencies in the state.

The Governor who said he had reports that previous set of council chairmen did not pay attention to the statutory security council meetings, said going forward the meetings must hold at least once monthly , adding that all critical stakeholders in the security architecture in their respective council areas must be in attendance.

Governor Oyebanji said any council chairman that fails to hold the security meeting would forfeit the security vote for the month. This is to show the importance the administration attach to security at the local level, which is always in focus at the local government security council meetings.

The security meeting, according to the Governor, should also include representatives of the state government, adding that reports of the meetings should be submitted regularly to his office for effective scrutiny and necessary action.

The Governor charged the council chairmen to work with relevant security agencies and the traditional institution in ensuring security of lives and properties of the people in their areas.

Stressing that it is cheaper to maintain peace than to arrest crisis, Governor Oyebanji urged the chairmen to be strategic in managing security fund accrued to the councils, while maintaining cordial relationships with relevant stakeholders, restating the commitment of the government to make more provision for security vote.

He said all efforts must be made to ensure that no part of the state experience any security breach, like it happened recently.

“As you are all aware, our administration is based on consultation and we are not unmindful of what has happened in the state in the last few weeks and the efforts that government is taking to ensure that we don’t have a repeat of that very unfortunate development.

“I have decided to call this meeting so that we can share with you our own strategies and ask for inputs from you to finally agree on how to craft an enduring and sustainable solute to this. So, I am going to allow us to share intelligence as it concerns our local governments.

“I will brief you on what we have discovered, then you give us a feedback from your respective local governments, this will help the security chiefs to develop strategies that all of us will agree on and how we are going to implement.

“One thing that we have discovered is lack of collaboration among local government chairmen that shared boundaries on security. If there are three or four local governments that share boundaries, there is need for you to jointly meet and share intelligence among yourselves and allocate responsibilities.
Once you do that, you will not be duplicating your efforts.

“We also discovered that in most local governments, they don’t hold Security Council meeting, they collect the money, they share among themselves, I have met with the Obas, they told me that most of the past local government chairmen don’t invite them to Security Council meetings. Going forward, we have decided that we will look at the security votes and see where we can scale up for you because of the challenges.

“Security council meeting monthly is now a must and this is going to be the procedure, every statutory member that should be in that meeting including the chairmen of Council of traditional rulers or their representatives, all security chiefs in the local government and now, a representative of the state government will be there and the resolution will be signed by everybody and sent to my office. Any local government that does not send a report as appropriate will have its security vote withheld. So, the condition to access security vote will be contingent on regular hosting of Security Council meeting.” He said.

The Governor used the opportunity to stress the need for effective information gathering and dissemination as well as intelligence and strategies sharing for effective tackling of insecurity.

He hinted that his administration would soon liaise with the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) to generate and introduce a strategic security toll free line where information could easily got to the security agencies for prompt action.

The Governor also urged the council chairmen, especially those who share border, to cooperate among themselves by sharing intelligence and possibly have joint patrol.
He also urged them to ensure that information that could assist the security apparatus in their respective local government areas are promptly released to the security agencies for prompt action adding that most of the criminals, their agents and accomplices live in the communities providing food and other materials for the bandits.

“I have told the Special Adviser on Security to give us a toll free line that people can send information to on any intelligence you have gathered in your local government, but make sure the information is genuine.

Also at the meeting were the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in the state, Barr. Paul Omotoso, Commissioner for Local Government, Chief Olabode, Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana (rtd.), Special Adviser to the Governor on Political and Inter-party Affairs, Chief Jide Awe and all heads of security agencies in the state.

Politics / Report Rates Ekiti High In Investment Promotion, human Capital Devt, Job Creation by AngelGabbyShara(m): 3:52pm On Feb 15
Report Rates Ekiti High in Investment Promotion, Human Capital Devt, Job Creation, Others

...Ranks third in Nigeria, first in Southwest

....Predicts future economic boom for Ekiti

A prestigious Business Management Consulting Firm, Philips Consulting Limited (Pcl), has scored Ekiti State Government high in investment promotion, human capital development and prudent financial management, describing these as factors that are catalysing the state's economic transformation.

The consulting firm, established in 1992 and headquartered in Nigeria, said Ekiti has done exceedingly well in the areas of job creation, inclusive governance and laying of solid propitious business environment, with high propensity for speedy attainment of economic recovery for its citizens.

The ratings were contained in the firm's State Performance Index report released for all the 36 states of the federation for the 2023 fiscal year.

As contained in the report, Ekiti stands out as the 3rd overall best-performing state and the top performer in the Southwest region, largely attributed to its strengths in provision quality basic education, healthcare, robust public institutions, preservation of social and cultural values, and healthy Capital Expenditure to budget ratio.

Despite its limited resources, the report stated that Ekiti demonstrated exceptional efficiency in deploying these resources for socioeconomic development, which vividly reflected in the state's rank of 8th regarding socioeconomic development performance.

In the report released by the consulting firm, Pcl remarked that the positive economic outlook for Ekiti State is underpinned by several promising factors, which also encompasses stability in governance and political alignment with the Federal Government.

Other standpoints catalogued by the respectable body that are setting Ekiti on a faster pace of economic rebirth include promotion of inclusive governance, investment in Human Capital Development, job creation, and prudent resource utilisation.

The report rated the state highly in promotion of liberal democracy that accommodates all shades of opinions and declared that the personality of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, largely perceived to be a rabid believer of participatory governance, is also adding value to governance and political participation.

The report posited that though the state has history of political unpredictability, but still maintains relative stability and occasional alignment with the federal government, which tend to reduce election-related violence, attract federal presence and enabling a smoother succession planning process.

The report averred further that Ekiti State had distinguished itself from many other states in Nigeria by effectively engaging with its residents and indigenous population, which it said helped in fostering a sense of satisfaction among the state's inhabitants.

The report expressed the fact that Oyebanji's Economic Team , comprising individuals with proven integrity and strong business orientation, will bridge the noticeable economic knowledge gap in the system for expeditious attainment of the deserved height in economic development.

The report said: "Ekiti State is strongly committed to investing in health and education. This investment serves as a catalyst for the security of lives and properties while driving development across various sectors of the economy.

"Job creation is critical to socioeconomic development. Ekiti State has shown a commitment to managing the risk of unemployment effectively, as indicated by a high score in this regard. This commitment to job creation positively impacts the lives of residents and their dependants, fostering social and economic well-being.

"Ekiti State's ability to make the most of its limited resources stems from the necessity to innovate and manage resources effectively. This culture of innovation ensures that the state is managed efficiently, even with relatively fewer endowments than other states.

"Ekiti State is characterised by electoral outcomes that closely reflect the wishes and aspirations of its populace. This democratic environment compels the

government to work diligently, addressing the concerns of its citizens. It encourages politicians to offer constructive criticism and gain public support for electoral victories.

"Governor Biodun Oyebanji's profile highlights a history of service to humanity. While he may need more in-depth economic and wealth creation knowledge, forming a solid economic team can compensate for this limitation, thereby spearheading the state's economic transformation.

"The road ahead for Ekiti State is undoubtedly promising. With a combination of efficient resource utilisation, a solid commitment to human capital development, and a liberal democratic environment, Ekiti is well-positioned to continue its trajectory of growth and development", it stated.

However, the report urged the state to identify and eliminate impediments to conducting business within its borders, implement tax reforms and create an enabling environment for businesses and investments for enhanced internally generated revenue (IGR).

For the actualisation of the expected economic and business status, the report advised the government to focus on human capital development, enhance citizen engagement, explore opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing with states that have excelled in similar socioeconomic conditions.

Meanwhile, the state is already responding to the business constraints identified with the approval of the Business Enabling Reform Action Plan and inauguration of the Board of Ekiti State Development and Investment Promotion Agency (EKDIPA).

Health / Ekiti Rolls Out Poultry Disease Advisory Awareness And Prevention Measures by AngelGabbyShara(m): 4:29pm On Feb 14
EKITI GOVT. ROLLS OUT POULTRY DISEASE ADVISORY AWARENESS AND PREVENTION MEASURES AGAINST BIRD FLU TO POULTRY FARMERS.

Ekiti State Government has rolled out Poultry Disease Advisory awareness, prevention and control measures to Poultry farmers in the State in a proactive move to prevent the spread of Avian influenza or bird flu to the State.

The development followed the reported outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) commonly known as avian influenza or bird flu in a northern State of the country.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Ebenezer Boluwade, in a statement made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti, described the Avian flu as a highly infectious and contagious viral disease of birds caused by virus usually found in wild migratory birds and primarily affect all ages of domestic poultry.

Mr. Boluwade stressed that the Bird flu is a trans-boundary viral zoonotic disease of global importance because of its devastating socio-economic impacts and the potential capacity of the virus to mutate from animals to animal and perhaps to final stage of human pandemic transmission.

Noting that poultry business is most vulnerable, Boluwade stated that the disease usually strikes suddenly without premonitory signs, adding that when it does, it gives clinical signs that reflect abnormalities of respiratory, enteric, reproductory and nervous signs.

He advised poultry farmers to avoid introducing new flock into their farms until further notice, or visit any farm or farms that are suspected to have the disease, stressing the need to adopt biosecurity measures.

The Commissioner highlighted possible preventive actions that poultry farmers should take to keep the disease at bay to include practicing good hygiene by keeping the pen, its environs, feeds and water troughs clean always; adoption of strict measures at acquiring good foundation stock with complementary bio-containment, vaccinations, bio-exclusion and decontamination.

He emphasized the need to protect poultry birds from wild birds, provide feeds and water for flock as much or as often as necessary or desired, report suspected cases of the disease to the nearest Local veterinarian for quick response, administer preventive vaccine and ensure prompt treatment of sick birds as well as ensure separation of sick birds from the healthy ones.

Other preventive measures recommended by the Commissioner are, to always have a green zone in farms that would provide a local framework to protect the environmental and economic health of a community heavily affected by local pollution as well as compulsorily disinfecting and fumigating both pen and housing before and after restocking.

Stressing that early reporting and prompt action are crucial to containing the spread of the disease, Boluwade urged residents to report suspected cases to the nearest regional veterinary officer or the State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security , adding that the Director of Veterinary Services can be reached on telephone number +234 703 069 8478 .

He also cautioned against consumption of sick birds, warning that Illnesses in humans from bird flu virus infections have ranged in severity from no symptoms or mild illness such as eye infection and upper respiratory symptoms to severe disease including pneumonia that may result in death.

President Tinubu on phone with me everyday till abducted pupils were released, Oyebanji tells Afenifere leaders

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji on Tuesday disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was with him on telephone everyday till the abducted school pupils were released.

The Governor stated this while receiving a delegation of the Yoruba Socio-Political group, Afenifere, who came on a condolence visit to his office in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday.

The Afenifere delegation, led by the Ondo State Chairman of the group, Chief Korede Duyile, was sent by the National Leader of Afenifere, Chief Reuben Fasoranti to commiserate with the Government and people of Ekiti State over the killing of two traditional rulers and abduction of some pupils of a private school and their teachers last week. The pupils and their teachers have since regained freedom from the kidnappers’ den.

Governor Oyebanji, who described the gruesome killing of the two traditional rulers as sacrilegious and “an affront to Ekiti people and the Yoruba race”, assured that the perpetrators would not go unpunished.

He also described the kidnapping of the school pupils and their teachers as a dangerous dimension, hence the need to mobilise forces to rescue the children.

He said he remained grateful to the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu staying on top of the situation, a development, which he said motivated everyone involved to put in their best in rescuing the children.

“It will be a mark of ingratitude on my part, if I don’t say this here today, Mr President really tried, from the minute it happened till the last day the children were released, the President was talking to me on daily basis, giving appropriate directives on the way out. And I want Afenifere to thank him”, he said.

Governor Oyebanji said in spite of the release of the children, security agencies have continued the search for the perpetrators of the heinous crimes, and bring them to justice. This, he said, was necessary in order to put an end to the dastardly acts.

Speaking further, Oyebanji said the entire Ekiti Obas have taken it upon themselves to defend their citizens. “because, the question is if this happened to two Obas, then what is the fate of the subjects. So, they are putting in place structures to defend their people.”

“And I also plead with Afenifere that they should be united, so that they can work together, it is only in unison that this organization can achieve its vision as espoused by the founding fathers. So, we need a united front, collectively, we can combat this menace that is steering us in the face.

“I am grateful to Baba Fasoranti for sending this delegation of eminent leaders to commiserate with us. This speaks to the unity of our people. Afenifere had foreseen situation like this long ago, and that is why you have been clamouring for restructuring. Those opposed to the call then, have now joined Afenifere in championing restructuring, state or multi-level policing, among others. We need Afenifere to keep speaking objectively.

On calls on southwest governors be united on the issue of security, Oyebanji said: “It will interest you, sirs, to know that all the governors of the southwest states, are united on this matter of security. And we are collaborating on the issue. We have a common position, the demise of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) slowed things down. We feel it would be proper to accord him the respect, and continue the process after his burial.”

Earlier while condoling the governor, the Afenifere leaders, who lamented the killing of the obas and abduction of school children, called for the restructuring of the country to tackle security and other challenges.

The Afenifere leaders affirmed the need to strengthen the South West Security Network codenamed Amotekun with necessary ammunition that would make the officers effective in tackling all forms of security infiltration into the region.

They expressed the group’s appreciation to Governor Oyebanji and commended the various steps he had taken to tackle the security challenges in the state and urged him to do more to protect the people.

They also called for an urgent review of the Constitution which they opined had become obsolete looking at the realities of the present situation.

Also at the meeting were the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, APC Chairman in the State, Barr. Paul Omotoso, Special Adviser to the Governor on Political and Inter-Party Affairs, Chief Jide Awe; Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Mr Yinka Oyebode and Special Adviser on Governance, Hon Odunayo Ayeni.
