AlfaPrime: Permit me to apologize on our behalf, , we got a little carried away with our gists. . . i guess its all a part of the diversity that is welcomed here. However, with respect to your question on "luck", well. . . it depends on what definition you are looking at. Well, if its luck as in good fortune, i am tempted to quote Ecclesiastes 9:11 , " neither is bread to the wise, nor fortune to men of skill, but time and chance happens to them all. . . . . .I have read George Classon's "The Richest Man in Babylon" and a lot of other books relating to Personal Finance and they all have the same concept (although presented in various forms), just as Kuwena had enumerated earlier. . . however, most of these books refer to a Higher Power, an inexplicable Force, a Supernatural Presence etc that seems to guide the affairs of men. Christian authors simply refer to it as the God factor. Others call it luck. Notwithstanding, i also believe just as that there are physical principles that nature answers to, e.g. law of gravity etc, there are also some spiritual principles that govern nature. e.g. Principle of Sowing and Reaping, Principle of giving etc and these also go a long way to bring "luck" our way. In my honest opinion, there's no hard and fast rule that says hardworking people are always lucky. . . i have seen princes walking on foot and servants riding on horses. . . Alfaprime. . . i have seen hardworking men that stick to the rules die in penury, and i have also seen "not so hardworking" men get one lucky break and live as princes all the rest of their lives. In conclusion, well, what can i say? Tho' the race is not to the swift, be the swiftest you can be Tho' the battle is not to the strong, being the strongest is not a bad idea Tho' bread is not to the wise, nor riches is not to men of understanding . . . get all the wisdom and understanding you can get Tho' favour is not to men of skill, i fail to remember anyone that was not skillful at something Believe that your time and chance will not pass you by. . . . Have a splendid night folks!!! |

AlfaPrime:Please refer to the emboldened text in your quote In marrying idealism with realities on ground, i have some concerns; When we refer to companies, are we talking about industrialized companies OR service providers? I also want to point out that there's a difference between growth and development. Growth is in the numbers (inflation rate, per capita income etc), development is in the living conditions of the people. Are we focussing on the urban areas only? or has anyone given thought to the rural areas? Nigeria has reduced inflation to a single digit, foreign reserves have grown tremendously (i think its about $54bn) , we have BIGGER and BETTER banks, but i ask, has it impacted on my kinsmen living in the rural areas? , where N1,000 is a WHOLE LOT of money. I honestly don't think that the problem in Nigeria is a scarcity of capital, IMHO i think its more of a dearth of ideas. we need to generate more value-creating ideas. There is a general rule i have noticed; and that is "Money will always follow value". Moreover, all those BIG companies we are quick to point to, never started small. They probably started in a basement, or a building for a number of years (i think Zenith Bank is a classical example, way before its PO in 2004) etc I think this goes in line with the scripture you quoted, "He that is faithful over little is faithful (and will be set) over much". Another viewpoint i think we should note is that we should start taking advantage of our networks. You'll be surprised at what a powerful network can achieve. An example is a network from this thread, (I'm sure it has been proposed before) I also agree with the opportunities constant power supply would bring. A quick example is the number of businesses that sprang up at the advent of mobile telephony in Naija. . . . talk less of 24/7/52 constant power supply. About witches and pastors making all the money, i don't know what to say . . . .their reward is in heaven www.folayemianifowoshe. |

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Interview Dressing Tips Needed by aniffy4eva(m): 2:17pm On Mar 18, 2008 |
I don't think there's a preference for either of them. It's a question of what kind of company is interviewing you. For auditing/accounting/consulting professions, i don't think that they would mind, but if it's one of these one-man business thingys then you may have a bit of a challenge, because you'll be at the mercy of the interviewer's idiosyncracies. |

AlfaPrime: Are those 2 days really "your own"? Well, if you are married, they are most likely not. Even if you are single sef, you are probably investing it , somewhere, OR nurturing an existing commitment. Anyways, i spend mine doing some things i love, e.g. blogging, reading, relaxing, meditation, I guess it prepares me for the following week ahead. i also have spurts of spontaneity sometimes , so i get caught up in one humdrum cycle. |
