Career / Re: Can African Professionals Change Africa? by aniffy4eva(m): 10:36pm On Nov 11, 2010 |
Great topic! I really believe that African professionals CAN change Africa but we have get involved in one area that we don't like to talk about, POLITICS, For change to happen at the macro-level, we need to have the POWER to do so, in a way that will have more impact on a greater % of the population. To cause the change we seek, to enhance the effectiveness of our systems and processes, we need to be able to make good laws and policies, and also ensure that the rule of law is enforced effectively. Charity and a few businesses here and there has never led to a Nation's change, at least not in a country with over 140m people. We need to have the right professionals, making the right policies and ensuring that they are executed by the right people. That, i believe, is the first step in the right direction. |

Autos / My Experience With Viperman. . . . . . . by aniffy4eva(m): 4:05am On Aug 17, 2008 |
I was shopping for a car sometime ago, but there was this tweeny lil' problem; i didn't know anything about cars. . . (except for driving them of course. . . ). Being a regular visitor to this forum, i decided to check up on some of the car dealers here. I made some phone calls and . . . well. . . i got mixed reactions, some were helpful, some were a lil arrogant (IMHO). . . and some were (i must confess) very enthusiastic marketers To cut the long story short. . . I transferred the cash to him and the car was delivered according to my specs (low mileage, leather interior, clean exterior, DVD etc), (i don't stay in Lagos. . . ). So i just thought to appreciate him here. The funny thing is that i have never met this guy. . . till date! @ Viperman Meanwhile. . . You still owe me fresh fish o! |

Autos / Re: Looking For The Best Hyundai Elantra Deal. by aniffy4eva(m): 7:07pm On Aug 05, 2008 |
@ Elantra buyers When i was shopping for a car sometime ago, i went to a Hyundai shop (name withheld) and spoke with one of their in-house mechanics, asking for his opinion on the Elantra. We went into the back office and he showed me a lotta Elantras that were being repaired. He said the fuel "pump" (i think , fuel somethin sha , sorry im not a car buff) was quite delicate and was reacting negatively to the bad fuel that most of us buy during fuel scarcity. He advised me to buy the sonata instead, I dunno if this info might help anyone. My 2 cents. |

pak: stannesi: Hey guys! Sorry i have been away. Bn quite busy. Ok, looking for stock tips, abi? As for me oh, i'm a fundamentalistic long termer , so i have some criteria that i use to select sha. . . here are some of them 1. Growing profits - PBT (Profit Before Tax), PAT (Profit after Tax) etc . Over the years, i expect to see increasing profitability, (except in cases of a turnaround. . .later gist. . .) 2. Ownership structure - i like it when mgt and staff have substantial stakes in the company.(i.e. they own substantial number of shares). At least, we can use the law of selfish interest in our favour, as they would want to reward themselves. 3. Liquidity - with this 100k rule, (i.e. 100,000 units of a particular stock need to be traded before its price can be changed to indicate loss/ profit), whats the use of having a stock going nowhere because it is not being frequently traded on the floor. 4. Past performance - I like generous people (who doesn't ). Does the company in question give bonus/ dividend regularly? It's not really because i want to earn them per se, but because are stocks that institutional investors look for. It's best if you can take positions in such companies and await the entrance of institutional investors, because that sends the stock price to the north pole. 5. Niche - what sets it apart from competition in the same industry? why would consumers choose its product over others? i love monopolies . Its such a wonderful thing when a company has "near" absolute control over the price of its products which makes it very easy to shift rising costs of production to consumers, hence preserving profits. It seems the market has rebounded but i don't know if this is a flash in the pan. Even if it is, i don't think it will be worse than the last 3 months - because them don release budget funds nah. Some companies (e.g. Dangote Sugar, Diamond Bank, First Bank) i would have recommended have already gained prices - so there's a probability that profit takers may depress it after like 20% - 30% gain. I am looking at some insurance stocks but my heart dey do jigijigi CAVEAT EMPTOR O! just incase the prices fall. I hope this helps. |

@ Jisi Howdy! Well, traced my tree. . . . so here it is! Cypress Tree (Faithfulness) Strong , muscular (Mr Universe abi!), adaptable , takes what life has to give but doesn't necessarily like it (sometimes), strives to be content (with a little success, because i always want more ), optimistic (very very ), wants to be financially independent (YOU BET!!! ), wants love and affection (who doesn't), hates loneliness ( . . .i'm kind of a LONE ranger), passionate lover which cannot be satisfied (i don't know about this one o!, please explain ), faithful ( ), quick-tempered at times (FAR from it! ), can be unruly (NEVER!) and careless (sometimes) , loves to gain knowledge (TRUE), needs to be needed (c'mon if you don't need me, why should i be there? ). @ niyooo E be like say you go like money pass me o! (Just kidding!). . . Just check out your lengthy gist on the stock market reversal. BTW, which particular companies do you think will benefit sharply from the imminent reversal? Question is actually open to everyone - please share your opinions and justifications. |

@ Opoks! opokonwa: Who tell you say you get game. . . . Just kidding! Anyways, i see your point. We can't necessarily attach good/bad to genders. Maybe it's cos i'm usually around more females than males. I think its easier for the bruvas, all they need to do is identify the sista they like and go straight for the "jugular". Its more difficult for the sistas cos most of them won't come to you, even if they like you. i guess that's where the idea of having more good females than bruvas actually came from. Its funny that there's no married person here i was actually hoping for some tips. |

opokonwa: Well. . . i didn't mean to be unfair, if you notice, i started with "From my viewpoint". . . and ended with "i meet them all the time". . . I guess it's based on my experience and shouldn't be considered a blanket rule for everyone. Maybe i just like to think abundantly too. . . I meet lovely, beautiful, incredibly sweet, correct, single xtian sistas ALL the time. . . . and i mean that!!! List of complaints i get from the sistas 1) xtian bruvas ain't got game! (i.e. uninteresting) . . . I hear that all the time 2) they are too religious. . . . more like, "having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof" 3) Lack spiritual discernment, wisdom etc. . . the list is endless. . . . How do i rate good? well. . (AS FOR ME O!). first. . .you must be born again. . .and i don't necessarily mean hypocritical stuff, but a true worshipper. For God seeks such to worship Him. The fruit will always be made manifest in either his/ her words OR deeds, except your spiritual antennas are not functional. For xtian bruvas looking for wifeys, just go straight to the Maker, there's no way on earth that God would not reveal "her" to you at His appropriate time, and when you see her, " Deep calleth unto deep. . . " Selah There are a lotta other xtics that i would have stated (e.g. wise, loving, submissive etc) BUT i guess God's revelation covers it all. When God reveals him/ her to you, you can't go wrong. At least, i'm speaking from personal experience. |

pak: Right here! I'm sorry if it seems i've taken to the back seat. I am not one of the REGULAR posters. . . i just chip in little bits once in a while. So how's work et al? Fine, i guess. About the marriage part. . . well. . . i think it depends on what you want in a lady. Well, from my viewpoint, there are far MORE good females than good guys. I meet them all the time. i have some females at my office that are quite old oh, but unmarried, (no RIGHT? man. . .) Well, i don't know how true this is, but i heard that when a woman is single, rich and in her mid-30s, it becomes more difficult to hook up i guess it's all about "knowing your time and season and not letting them pass you by". Just 2 questions to everyone, most especially the silent ones, can we please know who the "married ones amongst us are?" and "what piece of advice do you have for the hopefuls . . ." ? |

@ Kuwena wow! Thanks for writing about me. . . . @ Opoks! Well, i enjoy reading about the different personalities here. . . i'm not really much of a talker, maybe more of a reader. . .i guess that explains why i "drop a one-liner once in a blue moon". . . As you may have guessed, as for sports, im not much of a fan. . . but i have learnt a little about a lot on this thread. I just want to use this post to appreciate our diversity. We all see the world through lenses that have been coloured differently by our individual experiences, and i consider it a privilege when i can see the world through another man's eyes. (as i have on different occasions) We cannot feel strongly toward the totally unlike because it is unimaginable, unrealizable; nor yet toward the wholly like because it is stale—identity must always be dull company. The power of other natures over us lies in a stimulating difference which causes excitement and opens communication, in ideas similar to our own but not identical, in states of mind attainable but not actual. @ stannesi Thanks for the words and pictures. . . (as a little reminder ) . . . although i have encountered milder forms on my trips, but i have never encountered anything as bad as this. . . @ yanki Thank you for being a part of our journey. @ niyoo + kenosky + kuwena + "other visitors" Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving your comments. . . @ everyone else Stay on course, finish strong and be a blessing. Have a wonderful weekend. |

Hello everyone Please i need your advice I want to buy a car and i have 2 options:- 1.) Honda Accord (End of Discussion) 2005. It's a "tokunbo" (as in will be brought in from yankee) 2.) Toyota Corolla 2008. It's the 1.4L engine. This is brand new. I have been told that the engine is not so powerful (as in 1.4L) - what does this mean anyway? . Although it's not like i want to use the car for Formula One oh! Which would you advise, and why? All the gurus. . . .i'm patiently waiting oh. . . . |
