Politics / I Will Not Support Buhari's Term Elongation by anjowaka510(m): 3:23pm On Mar 30, 2021
President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has said he would not support tenure elongation for incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari.
Senator Lawan remarks was on the heels of a tweet attributed to him that he “won’t mind a constitutional amendment to allow the unlimited term of office for President if President Buhari wishes to remain in office beyond 2023.”

But the President of the Senate in a statement signed by his media aide, Ola Awoniyi, disowned the tweet as he noted that the 1999 Constitution has a firm position on the tenure of the President that reflects the popular stand of Nigerians.

He said: “Section 137(1)b states as follow: A person shall not be qualified for election to the office of President if (b) he has been elected to such office at any two previous elections.

“The Senate President has never found anything wrong in that provision of the Constitution and has always stood firmly by it.

“It bears recalling that Lawan was a member of the National Assembly when in 2006 it threw out an attempt to amend that section of the Constitution and elongate the tenure of the President. The National Assembly acted then in obedience to the overwhelmingly popular desire of Nigerians.

For me its not advisable and like he said he has tried it , if u have to try it , it will be best to try on a very very small portion and check out d reaction after 10 days of trial just to be on a safer side

My only fear is the toxic effect of the synthetic chemicals. They are always persistent with long half life don't forget the leaves can take it for long and when consumed it will actually have adverse redidual effect on consumers,I think u better weed manually, selective chemicals can be so good when applied in maize farm, pepper and other plants, but on vegies I think it is not ideal because we consume the leave that pick up the chemicals.

Politics / ‘God Must Be A Bayelsan! by anjowaka510(m): 6:52am On Feb 14, 2020
I WAS minding my business in my Abuja residence yesterday – and feeling depressed about the state of the nation – when my phone rang. It was an All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain friend.
“The Supreme Court has just returned Bayelsa to PDP (Peoples Democratic Party)!” he told me. “It’s a lie !” I exclaimed.
He solemnly assured me that he wasn’t pranking me, so I quickly called some other friends to share this political bombshell.
But nobody took me seriously to start with! The consensus was that I had been deceived and was inadvertently peddling fake news. Then official confirmation arrived via various current affairs platforms. And I still don’t quite believe what has happened: Twenty-four hours before his inauguration, which was due to take place in Yenagoa today, the Supreme Court declared that Mr. David Lyon of APC was no longer governor-elect of Bayelsa State.A five-man panel, headed by Justice Mary Odili, unanimously voted to nullify Lyon’s November 16, 2020 election on the grounds that his deputy, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo, presented false information to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The court held that since Degi-Eremieoyo shared a joint ticket with the governor-elect, his disqualification invalidated both of their nominations as the APC’s guber flagbearers in Bayelsa.
Their certificate of return has now been withdrawn so that a new one can be issued to the candidates – PDP Senators Douye Diri and Lawrence Ewhruojakpo (Diri’s running mate) – who secured the second highest number of votes and required geographical spread.
Many lessons can be learned from this dramatic development: The outgoing PDP governor, Henry Seriake Dickson, has been widely vilified for “imposing” Diri/Ewhruojakpo and for “ignoring” or “insulting” PDP stakeholders who preferred other aspirants or simply felt that the PDP primaries should be a totally level playing field.
And because Dickson’s “boys” were “defeated” by Lyon/ Degi-Eremienyo in November, his enemies have been gleefully describing him as a spent force whose career has ended in abject failure. Even within his social circle, many genuine Dickson pals have been worried about what the future holds for him. But everything miraculously changed yesterday!

Politics / BMO Passes Vote Of Confidence On Supreme Court For Judgments by anjowaka510(m): 6:34am On Jan 21, 2020
The Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) has passed a vote of confidence on the Supreme Court over its judgments that affirmed the election of the incumbent Governors of Plateau, Sokoto, Kano and Bauchi states. In a statement signed by its Chairman Niyi Akinsiju in Abuja on Monday, BMO lauded the judgments, saying that the capacity of the Supreme Court to deliver judgment in line with extant laws and precedents had never been in doubt.
According to Akinsiju, the apex court has also acquitted itself well in its recent judgments in the Plateau, Sokoto, Kano and Bauchi states governorship election disputes. He said the rulings by the apex court affirming the victories of the Governors of Plateau, Sokoto, Kano, and Bauchi states, was yet another reason to repose the utmost confidence in the justices of the supreme court.
“Once again, these eminent jurists have dispensed the law in accordance with tenets and spirits of laws guiding our electoral process.
“We congratulate both Governors Abdulahi Ganduje, Aminu Tambuwal, Simon Lalong, and Bala Mohammed.
“We, however, exhort the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to desist from its satanic machinations and ill-will against the institution of the supreme court.
“The arrant and criminal enterprise of blackmailing the supreme court bodes no good to anybody individual, group or political party,” he said.According to Akinsiju, the ruling of any court whatsoever is not supposed to be anticipated, that’s why opposing parties voluntarily submit to the authority of a court to resolve disputes.
“This resolution can go either way, however, the institution of the law is better served when parties to the matter respect the ruling.
“This is what makes us civilised. On this count, we call on the PDP to reform its ways and temperament, especially as it relates to rulings of our courts,” he said.

Politics / Supreme Court Ruling: Ihedioha Can Still Be Governor by anjowaka510(m): 7:07am On Jan 19, 2020
It is no longer news that in line with last week’s decision of the Supreme Court, Senator Hope Uzodinma is now the Imo sState governor. Having decided that the exclusion of certain votes in his favour during the collation of votes at the last governorship election in the state was illegal, the Apex Court went ahead to add the said votes which saw to the victory of the new governor. Uzodinma was promptly sworn in. His immediate predecessor, Emeka Ihedioha who had earlier been declared as the duly elected governor by the electoral body had to step down. Before doing so, Ihedioha did not forget to make the point that although he did not agree with what he described as an unfair and unjust ruling, he had “no option but to respect the outcome of the judgment.” A cursory look at various media platforms shows that Ihedioha’s viewpoint is generally shared by a cross section of Nigerians.
Bearing in mind that the ruling was made by the nation’s highest judicial authority – the Supreme Court, everyone appears to believe that there is really nothing left for Ihedioha to rely upon for some hope. There are grounds for this position, the most prominent is that the Supreme Court is the last court of the land; meaning that after it, no other court is available to a party for further action. In other words, the situation is not like what happens in the lower courts when a party can proceed on appeal to a higher court where he is dissatisfied with a judgment. Again, there is the understanding that in order to avoid a situation where a case may never end, the same court is not expected to review its rulings after delivering its judgment. Put differently, a Court cannot sit as an appellate Court over its decision. It is this idea, that a Court has no business returning to a case it has already concluded that makes many people think the end ofIhedioha’s case has come. For this reason, some analysts have condemned the call by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Supreme Court to reverse itself in the Imo case. The only thing in our view that is wrong with the position of the PDP is the intemperate diction employed at the press conference where the call was made. Otherwise, the rule that a court cannot reverse itself is not absolute. To revisit a case already settled has happened many times before. Almost 50 years ago, we had the case of Johnson v Lawanson (1971) 7 NSCC 82 where the Supreme Court found cause to overrule itself. In that case, Justice G.B.A Coker of the Apex Court made the point that “when the court is faced with the alternative of perpetuating what it is satisfied is an erroneous decision which was reached per incuriam and will, if followed, inflict hardship and injustice upon the generations in the future or of causing temporary disturbances of rights acquired under such a decision, I do not think we shall hesitate to declareto declare the law as we find it.”

Politics / Amotekun: ‘To Hell With Their Presidency’ - Afenifere Blasts Miyetti Allah by anjowaka510(m): 6:04am On Jan 17, 2020
The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, on Thursday, Berated Miyetti Allah over remarks that the South-West may lose the 2023 presidency if it fails to drop its security outfit codenamed: Operation Amotekun, saying the north can go to with its presidency.

The Miyetti Allah Kaute Hore had described Amotekun as illegal saying it may affect the chances of the region to produce the presidency in 2023.

But Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, lampooned Miyetti Allah describing the remarks as an insolence.

Odumakin said: “Miyetti Allah now owns the Presidency which they can gift to who they want and deny who they choose? What insolence? Cowherders threatening a people that produced the first lawyer in 1879 because a lawyer who doesn’t know the law is overreaching himself? Can they go and tell Yoruba in Benin Republic such idiocy? It is now a crime that we inhabit the same country with them? If Yoruba would be conised, is it by those we should employ on our ranches?

“To hell with their Presidency if the condition for it is that we must allow them to continue to waste the lives of our people. Who told these people Yoruba cannot opt for self-determination and have our own president? If they see the protection of our lives as politics, we are definitely in a wrong and impossible country.”

Politics / Appeal Court Reserves Judgment In Suit Filed By Sen. Dino Melaye by anjowaka510(m): 5:34am On Sep 25, 2019
The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Tuesday reserved judgment in three separate appeals filed by Sen. Dino Melaye challenging his election victory that was quashed in August by the National Assembly election petition tribunal.
The three appeals were filed by the PDP and Melaye, praying the appellate court to set aside the majority decision of the tribunal which voided the election of Melaye of Kogi West Senatorial District.
Justice Abubakar Datti Yahaya, who presided over the three appeals announced that a date for judgment delivery would be communicated to parties as soon as it is fixed.
PDP, represented by Jubrin Okutepa, SAN, in his final argument prayed the appeal court to set aside the majority decision of the tribunal against Melaye on the ground of denial of fair hearing and refusal to evaluate the evidence adduced during the hearing.
Kogi Guber: Dino Melaye Rejects DG Position
The party claimed that the tribunal failed to evaluate the testimonies of its witnesses while no reference was made to all the documentary evidence it supplied before the tribunal came to a wrong conclusion of over voting, even when the petitioner did not tender voter register.
PDP further claimed that the tribunal turned the head of natural justice upside down when it based over voting used in cancelling the senatorial election on the number of collected permanent voter cards rather than voter register as required by law.
PDP, therefore, urged the three-man panel justices to invoke section 16 of the Court of Appeal Act and dismiss the petition for lacking in merit.
In the second appeal filed by INEC, through its lawyer, Kola Olowookere, the Appeal Court was urged to dismiss the allegation of mutilation of the election result and favouring a particular candidate as alleged by the petitioner, Senator Smart Adeyemi and the All Progressives Congress APC.
The electoral body argued that finding of over voting by the tribunal was wrong and baseless because the voter register and result of election in 2015 tallied with the result in the disputed area.
INEC alleged that the tribunal did not evaluate the exhibits it tendered to prove that there was no over voting and pleaded that appeal be allowed.
The third appeal filed by Dino Melaye and argued by Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN, urged the Appeal Court to set aside the over voting decision of the tribunal because it was based on hearsay instead of polling units agents’ results
The senior counsel, drew the attention of the Justices to the fact that only three witnesses were called, adding that the evidence of the three witnesses based on hearsay cannot justify the cancellation of the senatorial election.
Melaye’s counsel further submitted that mutilation of result sheet was untenable because the final result of the senatorial election was endorsed by agents of the candidates and the parties and that the petitioners failed to establish that the alleged mutilated result substantially affected the final result collation.https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/09/appeal-court-reserves-judgment-in-suit-filed-by-sen-dino-melaye/

Politics / We Will Make Oyo Fastest Growing Economy In Nigeria — Gov Makinde by anjowaka510(m): 9:07pm On Sep 13, 2019
Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, said on Friday that the vision of his administration is to make Oyo State the fastest growing economy in Nigeria within a short while.
The Governor, who stated this while addressing a two-day retreat for members of his executive council and senior aides, said that to achieve this end, his administration would leverage on agriculture value chain amongA statement by the Chief Press Secrwtary to the Governor, Mr Taiwo Adisa quoted the Governor as telling members of his cabinet at the retreat with the theme: “Taking Oyo State from Poverty to Prosperity (P2P),” held at the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan, that his government was looking towards resounding successes in the four key pillars of the administration.
The statement named the four pillars of the government as including Health, Education, Security and Economic expansion through Agricultural value chain.
The statement further quoted Makinde as saying that he was aware of the magnitude of the responsibility bestowed on him and that he could not let the people of Oyo State down.
He promised to deliver on the vision he has for the state.
Makinde said: “Today, I have another chance to share my vision with you. With the number of times I have had to repeat this vision, I would not forget it even if I wanted to. “And so today, I am going to be talking about the roadmap to prosperity in Oyo State.
“I have chosen to keep in clear focus, the four pillars of development upon which we are building the prosperity of Oyo State: the Economy, Education, Healthcare and Security. Permit me to restate my visions for these areas and to share with you what we have done so far to make these visions a reality. Indeed, visions exist in the realm of imagination. In keying into a vision, we are hoping that what we imagined will come to reality. “This is why in expressing visions, people often ask: What will success look like?”
Governor Makinde stated that successes in the four key areas of his administration would include making the Oyo State economy the fastest growing in the country; delivery of qualitative education that equip students for life after school; and making Oyo State safer and promoting qualitative healthcare delivery service.
“My vision is to make Oyo State the fastest growing economy in Nigeria. To achieve this end, we have to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive. That is why one of the two Executive Bills we have so far, transmitted to the Oyo State House of Assembly is the Oyo State Investment Promotion Agency Bill. The bill is to initiate, promote and facilitate investments in the state.
“Policies alone cannot drive growth; we need to decide where to direct investment that will stimulate growth. Therefore, one of the sectors we will be leveraging is agriculture. I’m happy our Commissioner for Agriculture, Honourable Muyiwa Jacob Ojekunle, understands this vision and has made it his own. Already, we have entered into a public-private partnership (PPP) arrangement with agritech company, Farmcrowdy to commence a three-year plan working with 50,000 farmers to boost agribusiness in Oyo State.
