Politics / Afikuyomi Not Our Member – Lagos APC by anjowaka510(m): 5:25pm On Mar 01, 2019
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says Sen. Tokunbo Afikuyomi is not a member of the party in the state, but a member of the Accord Party. The party said the clarification was necessary for a view of Afikuyomi’s clandestine activities to undermine the APC in Lagos.
It claimed that his activities were targetted at promoting opposition politicians in the process leading to the governorship election.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Joe Igbokwe, the party said it was aware of Afikuyomi’s activities and his pretension of being an APC member.
“While we believe it is within the rights of Afikuyomi to work for any interest that suits his fancy, we feel obliged to warn faithful and loyal APC members that Afikuyomi is not one of us, contrary to the impression he gives to unsuspecting party members.“While we don’t begrudge Afikuyomi his rights to choose and work for any platform or candidate of his choice, we warn him to desist from claiming to be a member of our great party and proudly own up to the interest of whomever he is working for.
“We know Afikuyomi as a member of the Accord Party and the Lagos State exco of APC does not know him as one of us, as we are aware he has left our party for Accord Party.
“We, therefore, alert members of our party and anyone dealing with Afikuyomi to clearly know that he is not a member of the APC,” the statement read in part.
The Lagos APC saluted Lagosians for their ‘impregnable fidelity’ to the party.
It urged them to ‘look for impostors and fifth columnists who have promised their masters that they will assist their doomed campaigns and interests by sowing confusion in APC’.
“This disclaimer on Afikuyomi is an effort to dispel such damned efforts.
“We urge Lagosians to stick firmly with an APC that has served them so well in Lagos and which had gotten a pan-Nigerian renewal of mandate to give the country continued good, honest and fruitful governance for the next four years,’ the party stated.
Calls to Afikuyomi’s phone to get his reaction were unanswered.

Politics / Re: APC Reacts To Atiku And Peter Obi's 'the Candidates' Interview, by anjowaka510(m): 5:49pm On Jan 31, 2019
[quote author=stephanie11 post=75296745]@POLITICSNGR

Below is a Press Statement from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, made available to PoliticsNGR, on the recent appearance of PDP Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar and Vice Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi on the "The Candidates" Program;

In the aftermath of Wednesday night's televised town hall meeting, The Candidates, attended by the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alh. Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Mr. Peter Obi, a redefinition of their presidential campaign slogan, "Let's loot Nigeria again" is now trending heavily in the social media.

Going by Atiku and Obi's shocking confession that their administration will grant amnesty to looters, we are equally shocked and hereby align with the wide section of Nigerians who are now abundantly clear of their intentions if elected and now see the collective need to stop them.

The insistence of Alhaji Atiku and PDP to take us through this dangerous route where the nation's economic policies and programmes are driven mainly by the interests of leaders, their local friends, and foreign partners constitute a present danger every well-meaning Nigerian must rise against. The choices before Nigerians cannot be more clearer.

Those who have looted our resources, stolen the monies meant to build roads, rails, and ports, provide regular and stable electricity for our homes and businesses, provide quality healthcare, create environment conducive for ordinary Nigerians to unleash their creativity and industry, and for all Nigerians to live a rewarding and prosperous lives are working hard to take charge again. It is disturbing that Atiku and his returning mate, Peter Obi, could boldly face the national, and indeed, global audience boasting that the future of our country belongs to the looters.

As a matter of fact, Alhaji Atiku repeatedly told a bewildered nation that those who caused poverty, unemployment, poor infrastructure and misery for many Nigerians under his watch as the Vice President would be left to enjoy our commonwealth as long as they turned in part of what they have stolen. This no doubt must have gladdened the hearts of all the enemies of our country.

In a barefaced manner, the PDP's Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku promised to roll out the red carpet for people who have wickedly teemed up with him under PDP to ruin our country, in an environment such as ours, where many ordinary Nigerians, not being Atiku's friends, are wallowing in prison for stealing their neighbours' goats, phones, foods and such.

While Atiku tries to crowd the public space with falsehood on the ongoing fight against corruption and efforts to ensure credible 2019 general elections, the real issue remains Atiku’s inexplicable desperation to selloff remaining national economic assets to his friends and shadowy foreign concerns as Atiku did in the past and has severally and brazenly promised in his campaigns.

From Atiku’s so-called Dubai strategy meeting, the US excursion to Atiku’s recent letters to some foreign countries calling for their intervention in the 2019 elections, the big question before Nigerians has now been answered by Atiku: His spirited attempt to get foreign validation for his floundering presidential bid is not to serve Nigerians but to pander to the wishes of his friends, and some shadowy foreign concerns and interests.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has pursued a foreign policy based on mutual cooperation with the global community. The result has been our restored respect and standing in comity of progressive nations. This has also resulted in the successes we have recorded in the fight against insurgency, improvement in our previously dilapidated infrastructure and failed economy. These were surely not achieved by mortgaging of national assets for international support or rent-seeking by friends.

Atiku’s bid to trade national assets as an incentive for the support of his friends and foreign investors must be resisted.

For the All Progressives Congress, we would not get tired of reminding the PDP and Atiku that Nigerians will never return to Egypt. The era of unbridled corruption and impunity is one mission the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government is determined to FIGHT and WIN under a free, fair, and credible electoral process, with the support of well-meaning Nigerians.

Politics / Presidency To Spend N274.7m On Electricity, N65m On Animals by anjowaka510(m): 6:59am On Jan 02, 2019
The Presidency has earmarked N274.7 million for electricity and another N65 million on animals in this year’s budget.
A breakdown of the federal estimates for 2019, which Vanguard obtained last night indicates that some expenditure items, which had in the past caused some concerns, have also found their way into the current budget.
The Presidency, which is the most crucial office in the land, has not been spared in the repeat of such items. The budget breakdown shows that the State House is to spend a whopping N274,798,446 for electricity charges, while N23.8 million will go for telephone within the year.
Similarly, the State House plans to commit N135 million to refreshments and meals, N478 million for honorarium and another N198 million to the construction of a mini chapel in the residence of the Vice President.
Within the same year, the Villa wants to spend N65 million to buy animals for wildlife conservation, N67 million on the internet, N65 million on water charges, N132 million on lubricants and N79 million on uniforms and clothing for workers. At the same time, N39 million will be used for gaming and sporting equipment and another N79 million for stationery.
In a similar development, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, which is domiciled in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, plans to commit a princely N250 minion to hire lawyers to handle its cases while it will also make use of another N1.8 million to purchase a parcel of land, whose purpose and location are not disclosed.
In the same vein, Bureau of Public Enterprises, PBE, which has since sold off core assets of Nigeria, most to non-performing entities and individuals, plans to use the sum of N150 million for what it calls ‘post privatization monitoring’ just as the Ministry of Defends has set aside the sum of N20 million to embark in a project it calls ‘Anti-corruption sensitization’ for Staff and military formations.
But it has also emerged that the clamor by a cross section of Nigerians for the federal government to sell off the National Theatre, Iganmu, in Lagos, largely seen as a wasting asset, will not materialize soon.
This is because rather than hid the call, the Federal Government plans to spend N642 million on the running of the centre this year while another N128 million will go into the rehabilitation of the expansive arts structure.

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, on Wednesday, said that in 2015, if I didn’t support President Muhammdau Buhari, he wouldn’t have won the election just as he said that he is most qualified person to criticise President Buhari, having presided over the affairs of the country at differenttimes.“I am qualified to speak against Buhari. One, I have done it before. Two, I have shed my blood for this country. Even my biological son has shed his blood. Why can’t I speak about what is best for this country? I am doubly qualified to do that.”
He went on to say: “I am particularly happy that the governor, Ibikunle Amosun spoke against violence. I want to tell you, if you do not stop violence among your supporters, you will have yourself to blame. There is no earthly reason we should not have a peaceful election in the state”
“I have made my choice, it may not be in tandem with yours. Let my choice be and let yours be and let God decide and whoever gets there let all of us support him,” he submitted.

Politics / Breaking: Get Out Of Nigeria, Army Warns Amnesty International by anjowaka510(m): 10:22am On Dec 18, 2018
The Nigerian Army has called for the closure of the Amnesty International offices in Nigeria, alleging there is credible evidence the organisation is working hard to destabilise the country. The army spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman said in a statement on Monday that the organisation’s attempt to destabilise the nation was noted through fabrication of fictitious allegations of alleged human rights abuses against the Nigerian securityforces.Usman also alleged the AI had engaged in clandestine sponsorship of dissident groups to protest, as well as unfounded allegations against the leadership of the Nigerian military.A coalition of Civil Society Organisations (Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, Enough is Enough, and BudgIT) have recently called for the probing of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) over the funding of the war against terrorism and other crimes in the country.
The CSOs alleged the army had not made commensurate achievement in the fight in line with the huge fund the federal government allocated to the fight.
The COAS, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, had however explained that some of the allocated funds has yet to be cash backed and that it had not reached the army.
Usman said the Nigerian branch of AI that has hitherto been well respected has deviated from the core values, principles and objectives of the original parent body in the United Kingdom.
“They have tried over the years using Boko Haram terrorists conflicts, Islamic Movement in Nigeria, some activists and now herders-farmers conflicts.
“The NGO is at the verge of releasing yet another concocted report against the military, ostensibly against the Nigerian Army.
“Consequently, Nigerians should be wary of Amnesty International (Nigeria) because it’s goals are to destabilise Nigeia and to dismember it.“The Nigerian Army has no option than to call for the closure of Amnesty International offices in Nigeria, if such recklessness continues.
It was not the first time the Nigerian army and Amnesty International would have some misunderstanding over the latter’s various reports on human rights in the country.https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/12/breaking-get-out-of-nigeria-army-warns-amnesty-international/

Politics / Debate: Attendees Rate Peter Obi, Osinbajo by anjowaka510(m): 6:15am On Dec 16, 2018
It was a single-issue debate which attendees unanimously found boring, despite repeated audience interruption that tested the patience of moderator Imoni Amarere. Ultimately, however, those interviewed by reporters saidthere was a winner. The Peoples Democratic Party vice-presidential candidate, Peter Obi, edged Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo of the All Progressives Congress in the vice-presidential debate on Friday night, instant interviews conducted by reporters after the debate showed.
Two out of three attendees who came to observe the debate live at Transcorp Hilton Hotels in Abuja, who described themselves as non-partisan told PREMIUM TIMES Mr Obi did a better job.
Mr Obi was also the best debater amongst other participants who did not disclose their political affiliation.
The respondents were reluctant to comment on the showing of three other vice-presidential contenders who took part in the five-man debate, repeatedly preferring to focus only on Osinbajo and Obi, who are of the ruling and main opposition parties, respectively.
Stylistically, respondents said Mr Obi dominated. He looked mostly into the camera, which conveyed confidence. His voice was calm, but not entirely conversational, reminiscent of his decades’ experience as a trader. In contrast, Mr Osinbajo frequently interrupted. He talked somewhat faster than he ordinarily does and defensively in many cases.
The vice-president ferreted from talking point to talking point, especially on rice production output, road infrastructure and the social investment programmes, and oftentimes gets shut down by Mr Amarere.‘Data is life’
Mr Amarere’s decision to keep the debate strictly around the economy saw the contestants put up their statistics A game, and many in the audience were completely blown away.
“To be honest with you, Peter Obi was amazing,” Saryum Okorare, an Abuja-based human resources professional, told PREMIUM TIMES. “I saw it all how he was able to dole out statistics from his head.”
“His pen never touched paper and he was making sense with data, and you know data is life and does not lie,” she added.
“But the other people, not so much,” Ms Okorare said. “The vice-president is a professor, he has the ability to do more, but…”
Another non-partisan attendee Mary Omono, acknowledged the unique performances of Messrs Obi and Osinbajo, but still found Mr Obi’s ways with data more amusing.
“The debate was really interesting, thanks to both of them, but Mr Obi came out stronger for me because he did not only outline the problems, he gave solutions to them. He also gave statistics to back up most his positions,” Ms Omono added.
On substance, Mr Osinbajo won by highlighting the achievements of his administration. When Mr Amarere asked for his opening remarks, Mr Mr Osinbajo went straight for the PDP’s head, saying Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was abandoned for “practically 16 years”, and “practically every day” the government has been working to fix the crucial highway.
During some of the high-points of the debate around anti-corruption war, the vice-president displayed a quick ability to clap back. When Mr Obi said it was senseless to abandon a shop in pursuit of criminals, Mr Osinbajo quickly retorted that there would be no shop at all if rampaging criminals stole everything.
Mr Obi had a chance to deliver a similarly sharp blow when Mr Amarere asked about the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), but missed it by towing the administration’s line on why Nigeria did not sign the agreement earlier this year.
When the agreement was signed March, the Buhari administration said it withheld consent because Nigeria could lose big if the country signs the agreement without the input of key sectors of the economy. But critics like the former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, have condemned the delay as senseless, and even went on to describe the action of countries that did not endorse the“It is deliberate to keep it focused on the economy,” Mr Nwankwo said. “The main issue is the economy, even though a few other things came up.”
“It was up to the candidates to diversify their responses to other issues, but from the point of view of the moderator, the intention was to keep the debate on the economy.”
There were rumours that the presidential debate on January 19 would focus on security, since the president is also the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, but Mr Nwankwo was unable to immediately confirm this to News men.

Politics / Breaking: PDP Presidential Aspirant, Turaki Asks Delegates To Vote For Saraki by anjowaka510(m): 4:53pm On Oct 06, 2018
Following the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, convention ongoing at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, one of the 13 aspirants jostling for the party’s ticket, Tanimu Turaki, has asked PDP delegates to vote for Saraki if, for whatever reasons, they reject him.
Kabiru Tanimu Turaki
Turaki, in a video produced hereunder, said only him and Saraki possess the pedigree, competence and character to solve Nigeria’s problems.
He said, should the delegates reject him, that they should however, not hesitate to vote for Saraki whom he said is his brother.
According to him, “People have been arguing that there are a lot of presidential aspirants in PDP. And people are laying ambush, thinking that this election process will create a lot of problem that they could benefit from.
“And all of us are speaking to ourselves as speaking to each other
“And we agree that anybody who gets the ticket among us, that others will line up behind him.
“Both of us have experience. Both of us have knowledge and integrity.
“Both of us have character and both of us have that competence. And when you look at our antecedents, our backgrounds, our pedigree, its impeccable.
“”So I say to Nigerians, particularly PDP delegates, for if for whatever reasons you don’t want me, take Abubakar Bukola Saraki as my brother.
“I believe that between the two of us, that the problems of Nigeria
will be solved decisively,” he concluded.https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/10/breaking-pdp-presidential-aspirant-turaki-asks-delegates-to-vote-for-saraki/
