dino2006:I doubt if the 5w-30 sold by Mobil petrol stations is manufactured / blended in Nigeria. Unless that price has changed it costs btw N7800 - 8000 for 4 litres in Lagos. |
dino2006:About 4 yrs. On a 2010 Honda Accord ( 5w-20 ) and a 2011 Toyota Corolla ( 5w-30 ). I have had absolutely no issues whatsoever. Mind you i have used other brands but have stuck to Milemaster. @ N7,500 for 5 qts it makes sense especially in this regime of change! |
dino2006:Oil isn't scarce. You have several brands ( Coastal, Milemaster, Hardex, Lubex, Castrol, Mobil1, Valvoline, etc ) in the market ranging from N6,500 to N18,000 for 5 litres. Alternative viscosities open to you are 5w-40, 15w-40, and of course the ever popular 20w-50. |
CastroLubeNg:@ Castrolube Another reason why I won't touch Castrol is because their 5w-20 has an API rating of SL and an ILSAC rating of GF-3. API SL / ILSAC GF-3 certified oils are for cars manufactured between 2001 - 2004. This is something a lot of people are unaware of. The majority of oils today are API SN / ILSAC GF-5 certified and are suitable for cars manufactured from 2010. They are also backward compatible which means you can use them where SM, SL, etc are specified. Paying N10,000 ( or more ) for an older spec castrol oil when i can choose another brand that gives me present spec for same amount or lower makes little sense. The awareness will only get better.

mili3kid:Neither the OP or sooperrescue has denied there is an unresolved issue. Proof is therefore unnecessary. Lets not get derailed. |
GAZZUZZ:I believe this is how the wahala started. An account number was asked for and he was never paid / refunded. |
CastroLubeNg:Unlikely. Milemaster works for me. Has done so for the past 4 yrs. Don't get me wrong. Castrol is great oil and I have used it as well as Pennzoil Ultra, Mobil 1, and Valvoline in the past. But I still settled for Milemaster. Why ? It's formulation is similar to the Castrols, Mobils, etc but better than the standard oils Ford, Honda, and Toyota suggest we use. The 5w-20s and 5w-30s from Castrol are made using Group 3 base oil stock which is no different from what Milemaster uses. The flash point is lower than that of Milemaster. Save for Molybdenum and Boron the additive package on the Castrol 5w-30 Edge is not better than that of Milemaster 5w-20 ( see attached files ). Look at the levels of Calcium and Magnesium in the additive package. Castrol definitely won't clean my engine any better than Milemaster. Castrol has been in the game longer and expectedly has a greater following. But there is nothing to suggest that spending more money ( N10,000 minimum on 5qts ) for Castrol gives me better value than spending N7,500 on 5qts of Milemaster for my Honda Accord or Toyota Corolla. The gap between oils be they conventional, semi-synthetic, or fully synthetic have narrowed tremendously over the years. Having a popular or well known name has its advantages but you need more than that to sell in a competitive / price sensitive market where enlightenment is on the rise. |
stelaar:Google Seafoam Spray treament. Its about removing carbon from your valves and piston heads. I have tried it and it made a difference. There are people who will say they have noticed nothing. There are youtube videos on this as well. |
Milemaster 5w-20 for my accord and Milemaster 5w-30 for my wife's corolla. Its N7500 on Konga and some selected dealers in Lagos. Costs more outside Lagos. Even at N7500 it's sold more than all the other oils combined on Konga and has good reviews supporting it.

The recommended viscosity for your car as contained in the owners manual is 0/5w-30 operating in temperatures below 86 degrees Fahrenheit and 0/5w-40 for temperatures higher than 86 degrees Fahrenheit. I am pretty sure that the Volvo engine designers conducted tests over a wide temperature range and arrived at a viscosity that would work. These cars are tested in over 100 degrees and below 0 degrees temperatures before they are released to the public for purchase the world over. What is the present mileage of your car? Below are a few of reasons why engines consume oil. Your PCV is clogged, Your piston rings are worn, Your valve / stem seals are bad, You have purchased the wrong oil viscosity, you have purchased oil advertised as xW-30 or xW-40 but it is really lighter in reality. I hope this helps. |
Seafoam is available from Tulz Autos. They operate out of MRS petrol station on Murtala Muhammed Way, Yaba. Their numbers are 08066230187 and 08028427728. |
awiriwa:The differences in oil at times is just in the brand name and price. Most of their additive packs and physical properties are very close. ( see attached files ) |
paix:Absolutely not. The chemical composition of both oils is very similar. |
I thought you were marketing the North Sea brand? What happened ? |
All the items you have just suggested have prices ranging from N10,000 - N13,750 for 5qts. ( delivery non-inclusive ) Unless I am wrong I believe the OP's desire is to identify comparable products readily available in PH and costing less than N9000. |
nurey:Corruption does not respect company size. What happened to company A can be repeated in company B provided there are willing players. We all take a risk purchasing products from organisations who will never be punished in the court of law if it is ever discovered that they over promised and under delivered. Many soft drinks claim liquid content is 35cl but in reality it is not. You could conduct a chemical analysis test tomorrow and discover what you have been buying as full synthetic is really conventional. Nor be Naija? My guy only God will help us. |
nurey:A lot of Nigerian blended oils are advertised as "full synthetic". In the absence of an oil analysis how do we really know they are what they claim ? Would you believe if I told you that a popular oil manufacturer was releasing and selling base oil as finished motor oil. This was able to happen because the indian company contracted to include the additives into the oil was not doing so. This scam was able to go on for a while undetected because the indian company had connived with the QC head of the oil manufacturer to sign off that the products were up to standard. How can you really tell that what you are purchasing is full synthetic ? |
ekeochaeke:Milemaster oils are presently N7500 on konga. There is a 5% discount if you pay using Kongapay. Delivery charges are N1000 flat regardless of the quantity you purchase. So if you and 9 other people purchase 10 gallons you all will share the N1000 delivery charge. 5% reduction translates to an effective charge of N7125. Add delivery charge of N100 and your landing cost to your doorstep is N7225 for 4.73 litres. No sense in buying from a dealer. The way forward is budget dependent but at least you now have more info on your options. |
Which of the two filters that you cut open had the irregularly spaced pleats? For the price they are sold here we both know that none of them originated from the Honda Manufacturing Plant so there are no legal issues to worry about. |
senator2k9:Perhaps you might want to compare your experience using the same viscosity i.e 5w-30 milemaster vs 5w-30 Mobil 1. |
Yeah. Mechanics are terrible. But not all. Some car owners do a fair bit of damage on their own. I know someone who allowed a mechanic pour AP Visco 2000 ( engine oil ) into his honda transmission instead of Honda ATF Z1 simply because both fluids were red in colour. That same person continues to complain to this day that his mechanic deceived him and is useless. He refuses to accept that the cheaper price of Visco 2000 was what influenced his decision. I know of another person who bought a brand new 2015 honda accord and saw a light on his dashboard. Instead of reading his manual he asked his nearly 50 yr driver who is probably used to driving 504 what the light meant. Of course the driver refusing to fall his hand suggested the car needed servicing and off my friend went replacing everything replaceable only to discover at the end that the light was indicating his tire pressure was low. This person blamed his driver and mechanic for the expense incurred rather than accept that the expense would have been avoided had he read his manual first. Another lady was servicing her car monthly. Changing fuel filter, air filter, and oil filters along with engine oil and fan belt. This was done on a monthly basis for over 2 yrs until one of her work colleagues found out and busted the mechanics bubble. I am sure that mechanic had built his house from this lady's payments. The items to be changed are clearly spelt out in the manual. A mechanic services your carburettor and does not couple it together with all the parts. That already tells you not to use him again. But I can bet most of us will go back to such a demon for him to replace our ball joints. The point here is that many car owners are not knowledgeable. But some of us ( not all ) at times create problems for ourselves and conveniently blame people we suspect or know to be limited. Case of the one-eyed man asking the blind for directions. Terrible mechanics will continue to exist and have a field day until we car owners take the trouble ( and yes it is some trouble ) to become more knowledgeable about the cars we drive and carry our loved ones in on a daily basis. |
mexxy1:see link below https://www.nairaland.com/1788778/maintenance-tips-cars/28 Temas is complaning about oil shortage with Mobil 1 5w-30. Trust me no one will draw any attention to this. If it was Milemaster ........... |
mexxy1:Happy New Year Chief, People like you and adanny01 have used the oil and will continue to face a herculean task convincing people that it is good oil. You certainly will not achieve that on a thread that was started by someone who happens to be selling a different oil brand. Several mechanics rely on the fact that most car owners know very little and so proceed to say and un-say as the wind blows. Several friends of mine and I switched from Mobil 1 0w-40 / Mobil XHP 20w-50 and have been using Milemaster 5w-20 and 5w-30 in all our cars and petrol generators since 2013 and have still not experienced the problems some people credit Milemaster with. It is unfortunate that regardless of all the information available online people still rely on what they are told by the next man especially at a time where internet access is no longer prohibitive. Very soon Milemaster oils will be blamed for failing shock absorbers. My advice is to let it go and leave the naysayers. After all was it not the other day mechanics were saying manual drive cars were better than automatics and that carburetted engines were superior to fuel injection. Milemaster is and still remains the number selling oil on konga. The positive reviews about them are there for all to see. No amount of bad press can change that. |
Experience4u:See link below https://www.nairaland.com/1438030/adverse-effects-adding-too-much Perhaps you have too much oil in your crankcase. |
IyaIode:You might want to read this thread so that you have a balanced view. https://www.nairaland.com/1974986/used-milemaster-5w-30-oil-before |
Below are links for the specified oil viscosities and oil filters for fords from 1997 - 2015 http://www.ilma.org/resources/chart_oil_recommendations.pdf https://www.fcsdchemicalsandlubricants.com/main/quickref/oilchart.pdf That should take the guess work out. |
@ OP. I hope this helps identify the oil viscosity for your car.
|
The best oil is the type recommended by Toyota. Such information is contained in the owners manual or printed on the oil cap. I would guess the oil for your car is of the viscosity 5w-30. |
This seems like a general complaint. I made a payment of N10000 on wednesday and since then have sent 3 emails attaching proof of payment yet my account has still not been credited. Is there something wrong? |
adanny01:Bros. You are the man! I change mine @ 4000 miles / 6400 kilometres. Not sure I would be courageous to do what you have especially as all my miles are covered within the city. If I travel with my car every now and then perhaps i would stretch it. |
@shamecurls OP is concerned about people who have used the MileMaster brand, where it was purchased from, what their experience has been so far, etc . Are you suggesting we should be wary of Milemaster? If there is something you know that we don't please share and substantiate where necessary. Your input might be a lot more helpful than you think. Cheers. |
