PoliticsRe: PENGASSAN And Dangote Reconciliation Meeting Ends In Deadlock by Anniwil(m): 5:21pm On Sep 30, 2025
xxxx999jon:
BS..even in banks and some blue chips companies ones you join a Union your as told to go..where you are very free to do your union thing is government work places or PLCs that's public quoted company..if Dongote refinary goes down today it's on Dangote head not the union executive..they should go and strike at the moribund refineries..now they have become a security threat to the Nation ..it needs to be proscribed...there is other laws protecting Nigerian workers ..not this leech's..the one I hate most is Nurtw... nonsense union .
While I don’t know much about the banks and all,I can say that maybe because of the scale of investments in the O&G sector, most players would like to play by the rules and carry stakeholders (unions, govt agencies, communities,NGO’s etc) along in the entire processes.
Am not sure Dangote alone is gonna bear the brunt as am sure govt has a % stake, though small.
For moribund refineries,it’s on record that successive presidents of PENGASSAN from Babatunde Ogun to Esele to Late FO Johnson have always advocated the privatization of the old refineries, the only thing they did not do was to shutdown the country for that.Infaact lately, strong advocacy to restructure the refineries to the same NLNG partnership model has been made, but the bulk is at the President’s table.
About being a security threat ,hmmm, what I fear most is a private individual in full control of a segment of energy sector especiallly if he’s not the Government:this is a personal view and not PENGASSAN or NUPENG position.
In any case, the issue here is the sack of at least 800 Nigerians due to them joining an Association, the real security threats are the bandits, armed robbers ,kidnappers whose robbery activities led to the loss of a promising Nigerian - Arise TV reporter - Maduagwu
If private corporations that have benefited from Nigeria keeps sacking 800 workers every week,I assure you many more deaths like maduagwu’s will occur - that is the real security threat and not PENGASSAN asking for recall of its sacked members

While it’s clear that you lean in favor of PENGASSAN and NUPENG, I truly appreciate the respectful tone and the thoughtfulness of your arguments. I agree that unions can indeed be valuable partners in progress—especially when their core interests are genuinely at stake.

That said, I personally don’t believe Dangote is primarily concerned about salaries or worker welfare—perhaps about the potential for strikes. Even then, that alone doesn’t justify an outright
rejection of unionization. It feels like there’s more
U r right indeed, more often than not in 9ja,there’s more than meets the eye.
My take from a very little fact finding on why it took a year after for all this is because the guys there have endured some harsh conditions and it is even rumored that they had to buy PPE in some cases,so they all resorted to unionise and were unequivocal about their desire to join PENGASSAN after their management asked each of them following receipt of PENGASSAN’s request for commencement of check-off dues.
It is indeed a coincidence that this happened about the same time as CNG trucks and all but I understand that PENGASSAN sent the Mgt a check-off dues request about a week ago.
Some things like you infer are more than meets the eye.
However Pengassan is fighting for its workers and not against Dangote.

to this story—something both parties are deliberately withholding from the public. Unfortunately, whatever that is seems to reflect poorly on both sides, particularly the unions.

It’s also worth noting: the refinery has been operational for over a year—so why now? Why is this surfacing just as Dangote begins direct distribution using his CNG trucks, which reportedly cut transport costs by about 40% compared to existing alternatives? Did salaries and working conditions suddenly become intolerable?

We need to look beyond the surface and resist the pull of emotionally charged narratives. There’s more here than meets the eye.

I believe around 1.41 billion liters were consumed in August—dividing that by 30 gives the average daily consumption. Honestly, unionizing and layoffs are just symptoms of a deeper issue neither side wants to address. We need to understand what Dangote risks if unions are allowed, and what unions stand to gain. All the talk about workers’ welfare seems like an afterthought.
As per your data would be nice to quote the source cos I believe there is difficulty harmonizing the data. I agree there are deeper issues ,and in my opinion it relates to government, policies and the need to do what is right. As per unionizing, I think Dangote doesn’t want disruption to his business in
any guise, there are many disruptive factors apart from Union,in my view, the Union can provide some competitive advantage .I have witnessed first hand,in upstream business was it 2015 when oil price was at about $25 ,where Pengassan in an IOC introduced a cost-saving Initiative by sharing deck spaces for different routes/ ship, this was implemented and the model still in use in that IOC.If given the opportunity, beyond, strikes, salaries and increases which I feel is what Dangote thinks unionizing of its workers will bring,PENGASSAN is indeed a force for positive change and sustainable growth. He should just look at the brighter side

You're funny—do you really think Dangote can afford to pay everyone? Nobody wants fuel scarcity or disruptions to their daily lives and livelihoods, which is exactly what this drama could lead to if it continues. Plus, the past behavior of these unions has already left a sour taste in many people's mouths. They’re often seen as self-centered and rarely show genuine concern for the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.
Indeed the drama can lead to disruption if the autonomy Dangote has in the refinery is exhausted and our NNPC cannot meet its quota, btw no one knows the true daily Nigeria consumption cos corruption has thrived in the O&G sector.
As per the behavior of past unions,it’s actually contextual ,the real issue here is the right to unionize and the sacking of those who made that attempt.
Genuine concern for Nigerian’s welfare starts from our local government- what have they done with the increased direct allocation?,Our State governors ,how have they ensured that citizens are the direct beneficiaries of their enhanced revenue.
PENGASSAN on the other hand has a clear mandate - Protect the job of its members and improve their working conditions which so far
especially in recent times has been done quite well

I really don't know how we got this low, as a country.

It is even how they think that a Union will affect the price of petrol? What has a Union got to do with Dangote, selling at 865?

People are simply asking him to follow what the Constitution says about protecting the right of worker, but only reading through this thread sef dey shame me.

PoliticsRe: Ndume To Tinubu: I Don't Mind If You Act Like A Dictator, Dissolve PENGASSAN by Anniwil(m): 11:15am On Sep 30, 2025
Sen.Ndume has always been controversial..So most of his vituperations should not be taken seriously. He has a great foundation and excelled in his education career,I don’t see how he intends to guide 1st class engineers who subscribed to join PENGASSAN…the brightest of minds who contribute in no small way to the O&G Industry and are the pride of Nigeria.Save for a 22 year political career of his 66 year life, he probably would have excelled in controversy in leading ASUU,SSANU or the likes.
The truth is that PENGASSAN has evolved a competitive salary and welfare structure for IOC’s over the years, every person in O&G would want to emulate their CBA as it has evolved to one of the best in class in Nigeria. The aspirations of these 800+ workers to be in PENGASSAN is constitutional and should be obeyed. Go and do your findings as to the working conditions and pay Nigerians are subjected to in the Dangote refinery and compare to their Indian colleagues;juxtapose it with Dangote’s interview 13 days ago where he praised Nigerian Engineers as being the best in class in comparison to their Indian counterparts and then comment here.
Closing the gas lines ,I believe,is a direct response to dangote sacking 800 ‘best-in-class’ people and it’s like for like.He should have consulted widely before such drastic decision, and please nobody should mention ‘ Private Company’ as the IOC’s have invested way more than Dangote invested over the years and are heavily unionized!!!
Dangote it is said borrowed from a consortium O banks a sum of about $10m dollars or more out of his $25bn refinery, right,On record the amount currently owed about a year after is $3.8bn, despite increase in interest rate,,what does that tell you about the businesshuh?
Please let’s consider our long term future as ‘stakeholders’ and fight ‘capitalism’ together!!!
I expect bashes as reply cos that’s the bane of
Social media - Sentiments instead of Objectivity.
We shall Overcome and someday Nigeria flourish again!!!!!

Of all the people that posed questions to the INEC chairman, only the Young Party lady and Adams Oshiomole were able to convey the anger of Nigerians. I don't like him as a person but Adams delivered. He did not buy the rubbish crap of flimsy excuses the chairman was spouting and profusely lashed him.
I totally agree with you.
Adams spoke Nigerians’ mind and this Chairman has refused to apologize but expressed regret.
He now claims that INEC is the most improved public service since 2010,well this is obviously a lie.Having failed to postpone the elections until the Election Day.He has failed.
I don’t even consider the credibility of the postponed election as something to look forward to.The legalistic tone of the guy to questions is not palatable

Then they should release them and state that those wanting to vote should take exeat card..That is not been done, and exeat card would not be proper with lectures going on.So if i stay in Abj,i'd take exeat on friday, say, vote on saturday, then return on Sunday, oga leave that thing.Let the right thing be done

Why arent there polling locations at or near the school? Lol these universitys must be in the boonies. Where do the locals vote.
there are no polling stations or/and these schools have not told the students they could go and vote.for one of the schools,in 2015,they allowed them go home/their polling centres to vote, many of them are registered,so why won't they let them vote.Let's call a spade a spade this is wrong!!

Private Universities In Nigeria Disenfranchising Nigerian Youths From Voting by Anniwil(m): 10:26pm
Fellow NIgerians and citizens of thought.
I just watched the Verdict on Channels TV tonight and was pleased to note that Nigerian Youths (students) make up the highest registered voters for 2019 elections.Even though, that can be subjected to a debate, the fact that some positive statistics regarding the Nigerian Students for this election following a prolonged strike and the hardship this categories of Nigerians face gave me some relief.
I am deeply concerned that some people in this bracket of the voting population will be denied their franchise because they are in private universities.Notable among this two are Madonna University and Covenant University. These Universities have not indicated or informed these Nigerians that they would be released to vote for their candidates 72 hrs to the elections. This is disenfranchisement in all its forms and the refusal or passive disposition of these schools' management should be thoroughly condemned.
Madonna,Covenant and other Private Universities, some registered voters have to travel at least 19 hrs on bus to get to their voting units and vote, please release these students ASAP to do the needful..This is daylight robbery!!!
I am not pro-any candidate.I just want to use this capable medium to spread the word to the Chancellors and school management's team and if possible INEC...Help these young `NIgerians and allow them go home to vote.\

RomanceOn Day 63 Of Our Dating,am Already Confused by Anniwil(op): 5:12am On Jun 17, 2017
Yesterday I visited her place(third visit in a week) and got a rude shocker when I mentioned I had located her friends' house, apparently, she forwarded an invitation the previous day to a 'birthday get-together' by a long time friend of hers very close to my house. What surprised me was that I was blamed for locating the place, even more surprising was when I mentioned i'd confirm from a resident in our estate(an about town kinda guy) if he knew there was a get-together in that apartment, then she really got pissed and queried why I had to go that far stating she'd never send me such text messages again or inform me of any events,I still couldn't see what I did wrong in locating the place since it was closer to me than her,I accept the idea of mentioning to another resident wouldn't be cool since the guy was not invited(maybe it's for a select few) and apologized to her but i don't think it's a point to decide not to inform ur bf about stuff going forward.
Then the confusing part,I drove her to get some groceries, she also got a gift for her friend.Together we located the place, then I drove to my house since she wasn't ready to join the get-together yet.I was a bit pissed on getting home as the security man informed me that my Gen's fuel tank was leaking(there had been no light for three days and that was an emergency to me).In this confusion, she asked me to give her my car keys that she wanted to drive to the get-together(men and brethren this was about five minutes after we located the venue).Ideally she might have dropped off then I'd come
Pick her up when she's done but she wanted to now drive there, huh? So we got into a little argument(just talk, not war of words)my elder brother who stays with me arrives from work, then she suddenly picks her gift items and is off to the get-together after she says 'I'd call u when am done.Hmmmmm!!!!!!(in all fairness, her friend is a newly married lady)
After the get-together,she calls me I pick her up and drive her back to her house ,there was little or no communication so I sensed she was upset.I tried calming her down until a phone call came,it was her very good friend calling from Lagos who's husband is frustrating the life outta their marriage of two years.I arrive her place,no talk still (she's on phone)and no bye -byes and all!!Babe is pissed off!!!!
I return and am off to hang out with the boys and she's still not just in a good mood.
Next day,i try to spark off a discussion via chat and she says'I totally regret not coming out with my car yesterday'.I'd never in my life request to use your car again' wow!!!!!!!!then I was like 'girl, what if we get married? She's like'till then' and she never promised to marry me' since it's just two months!!!!
Omo ,men and brethren Abeg torchlight this matter for me o!!!I really love this girl but mehn!!!!the drama is much.

My invitation 4 medicals is d next thing you will see on this thread.

Well i think i still enjoy this forum,as per the above info.I believe edoblakky's very correct/Infact at a point last yr,SITP/1 were given about 600k for security allowance seperate from their salary which was doubled at some point.I still reiterate though, that Shell is everyone's dream company. But the fact is that "Things are not really as they seem".I know someone who was in Shell SITP/2 Batch 13 which was largely community based who told me that Shell has not called any of them to resume yet, talkless of calling them for medicals. It had to get to a point where the organisation had to be taken to the  Delta State Governor for a security meeting because of their delay in calling the largely community based set to resume after successfully completing the training and interviews. The truth is Shell is not really friendly with their communities. The SITP/2 And SITP/1 usually should complement each other both at the training centre and Edjeba and at the field in operations, but to my dismay, the company doesn't do this.It continually sets up a wall between the communities and even SITP/2 and their staff. One wonders why anyway!
I am not saying this to disrupt you guys joy.I look forward to being a part of the organisation some day,but the fact is everyone who gets into this company especially their operations should usually pray everyday when at the field or even on land because they are usually the object of their host communities anger largely due to their relationship.I hope u guys that'll eventually get in will represent the change the company needs.I can tell u that there is a want of operators as the current restructuring has taken its toll on all of them and one operator does the job of at least three.U guys are not Operators and one day you will get to understand what i mean. For now go and count your bucks and become "the big BOIz" but remember that "everything rises and falls on relationship".God bless y'all,
