Daboomb: Lateef Jakande was a very astute Politician. Achieved a lot during his tenure.
But let us not forget that he was the one who SNITCHED on Awolowo, to Military Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida. That alone, makes him a TRAITOR the Yoruba race will never forget. Happy Birthday, Snitch. Stories of pained losers that are unsubstantiated. |

happney65: He also had a project for the Lagos Metroline network which was scrapped by General Buhari in 1985 and led to a loss of over $78 million to Lagosians.. It was a project that would have solved the perennial transportation issue in Lagos till date but Buhari came in and cancelled it..
He is not like the yeye ones of today that rule Lagos..Baba Lateef Jakande did not have 1/10 of what the likes of the yeye ones of today had yet his legacies still stand tall till tommorow in Lagos
cc omolola15 Una can remember something Tinubu, Fashola, Ambode and now SanwoOlu have had over 20 years of stealing but they have been unable to do just one line of their fake light rail. Something that Jonathan did in five years. Splashme: The first civilian governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, on Tuesday, said that the cancellation of the Lagos metroline project in 1985 was a major mistake and disservice to many Nigerians.
Jakande spoke in Lagos during the launch of a book which chronicled his life in politics and journalism.
The book, entitled, ‘Jakande: Leadership in Action’ is written by Dr. Bola Olaosebikan, who told the audience at the event that the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), was not responsible for the cancellation of the project.
Jakande said, “Reflecting on the metroline project, I think it is a major disservice to many Nigerians. Imagine how many people would have benefitted. It would have made life easier and changed the face of transport in Lagos. Whoever cancelled it or gave the advice towards its cancellation didn’t do right.”
The former governor asked Nigerians not to vote for unserious leaders in the coming polls, saying the elections presented Nigerians with a good opportunity that should not be squandered.
Expressing the hope that Nigeria would soon overcome its developmental challenges, Jakande said hope would be actualised faster if credible people emerged as leaders in the next dispensation.
He said, “This book comes at a very auspicious time in Nigeria’s history as we need leaders who can act. We need leaders who would not compromise the standards of good governance. God has blessed this nation the most in Africa, although we have not reached where we should be; with the right leaders, Nigeria would overcome its challenges.”

Beautyaddy: There is no need to scare people away from going to the US legally on a visiting or student visas.
After their three months legal stay in the US they can get an American to fall in love, marry and then can change their temporary status to permanent status via adjustment of status to obtain a green card. Unfortunately this is one of the weak US immigration loopholes that most visiting and student immigrants have used and are still using. Bbsharon: A giant looking tree then stands alone representing the husband of the women. The people believe, despite these women's differences they can still co-exist and live peacefully only because they still have great respect for their husband.
However in 1952, the spring was brought to limelight by Rev. John S. McGee after he had heard magical tales of it’s existence from the Ikogosi people. He later went on to put the place in good use, building camps and places for relaxation.
And by December 22, 1973, a guest house was opened by the government to receive visitors in the camp. The resort have experienced good face-lift ever since then from the state government but more can still be done especially the trails. How many of such places in Canada, UK, US etc are run by their federal, state or local governments? Are these not the places where Ekiti people and other Nigerians are running o because we have all made our own country a mess When the state government finally gets some sense they will privatise it and make better money therefrom instead of giving out subventions to cronies who see it as their own way of getting a part of the national cake. www.nairaland.com/attachments/4160987_image_jpeg_jpeg6f95b5e7a24ad4fc0808d6698fd37362 |

Is the comment about old ideologies or spending less than you have in your treasury instead of borrowing upandan while blaming 16 years of PDP eternally like a programmed robotic parrot Is Buhari using an old car that is made in Nigeria and costs little based on his promise and posture of being prudent? That is the question. Do you know the answer? Budget for presidential aircraft for Buhari, Osinbajo nearly doubles to N7.3 billion
The Federal Government has proposed to spend N7.26 billion on the Presidential Air Fleet, PAF, in the 2018 budget proposal, details by the Budget Office of the Federation have shown.
Of the amount, about N4.3 billion was proposed for recurrent expenditure, while N2.8 billion would go for capital expenditure.
The proposed expenditure is about 67 per cent higher than the N4.37 billion appropriation in the 2017 budget, which consisted of N3.97 billion for recurrent and N399.5 million for capital projects.

‘A budget that moves domestic spending in Aso Villa from N580m to N1.7bn cannot be a budget of change’
Abuja – Sen. Eyinnaya Abaribe (PDP Abia South) on Wednesday in Abuja, berated the 2016 budget and called on President Muhammaduu Buhari to withdraw it and go back to the drawing board.
Abaribe while making contributions during the consideration of the budget, said the proposal was faulty on many grounds and could not be implemented at it was.
He said that predication of oil benchmark at 38 dollars per barrel when the crude oil price had fallen below 30 dollars per barrel made the budget unrealistic.
Abaribe faulted the government for increasing spending by 30 per cent based on borrowing.
“Mr President, my colleagues, this budget is indeed unique. After the budget presentation, the finance minister has never come to explain the details of the budget as it is normally done.
“It is a budget of change I agree, but it is a change in the wrong direction. I say it is a change in the wrong direction because it says that it is based on zero budgeting requiring all expenses to be fully justified.
“Mr President, a budget that increases spending up to 30 per cent based solely on borrowing, in what way are we justified? That is the question we want to ask the people who brought this budget.
“We know what is going on in the global economy: this budget is predicated on an oil benchmark of 38 dollars per barrel and I can now say that with oil being 28 dollars today, this budget is dead on arrival.
“The job of the opposition is to help the government to get its priorities right, so I want to please urge this government to withdraw this budget and go back to the drawing board,” he said.
The senator also faulted the adjustments made in the budget as well as allocation for spending in the Aso Rock Villa, saying that it was too exorbitant.
He said that the adjustments rather than reduce spending in areas where they were not necessary only spread it into different offices.
“Mr President, a budget that moves domestic spending within Aso Villa from N580 million to N1.7 billion cannot be a budget of change.
“We were told that in the revised budget there was an adjustment due to error, we agree but what has happened is that up to N7 billion were moved from buying vehicles and spread to offices.
“It also increased the spending that is due to renovations within the Villa.
“They are going to renovate the Villa with N3.9 billion: what else do you want to renovate there that Nigerians will see in the Year 2016?” he asked.
However, in his contribution, Sen. Ahmed Lawan (APC Yobe North) blamed the previous administration for the lack of funds due to the embezzlement witnessed in previous governments.
He said that this was the 17th budget he would be debating as a legislator and noted that not more than 40 per cent implementation was achieved in the last 16 years.
“The proposal before us is the first budget where the executive has deemed it necessary to give ordinary Nigerians genuine hope.
“N500 billion allocated for school feeding and social SAFTEY NET is commendable.
“It is time to say oil should not continue to play dominant role as we have suffered economically and politically: it is time to diversify this economy.
“The direction of the executive is the way to go. `That is, we should make every effort to have the real sector-agric mining and manufacturing.
“The budget deserves the support of everyone, including my colleagues on the other side. When we were in the opposition we supported the PDP, they should support us,” he said.

Amen. www.nairaland.com/attachments/8331014_bubumakesinvestorsfleenigeriacbn_jpeg8c024ba56fba5fb7a560fecb226f7df9nwakibie3: President Muhammadu Buhari has said his major weakness lies in not knowing how to make money.
He also disclosed that he even borrowed money to build his three houses in Daura, Abuja and Kaduna.
The President made this known while speaking on his assets during an Interview with Sun Newspaper.
According to him, “When Murtala/Obasanjo regime came, they made sure that certain grades of public officers must declare their assets when they assumed that office and they must declare when they were leaving. So, when I was sworn in as governor of North East, I declared my assets.
“I declared surprisingly, even the number of my cows then. Even if they were supposed to be producing every year, but I declared them the time I was there. And when I was leaving governorship, I became petroleum minister.
“When I was leaving to go to War College, I declared my assets. I could recall General Jemibewon then, was the Adjutant-General of the Army. He rang me and said he was sending me asset declaration form, that I must fill it, sign it before I left for the United States. And I did.
“General Jemibewon is still alive. And when I became head of state eventually, I declared my assets again.
“So, if you people are serious and interested about political officers becoming multi-billionaires, you can find out from Murtala downwards. And those of us who were not very good in making money you should pity us.
“Everybody likes money but I am not very good at making money. Let me put it that way. I borrowed from the banks to build the house in Daura and the one in Abuja that you mentioned and the one in Kano. The bank then was Barclays, now Union Bank. Kaduna State or North Central then housing scheme and the Federal Mortgage Bank for the house I am in and AIB, which was, I think, terminated by Central Bank. So, when you go through the records, you find out that the houses I built, I borrowed from there.”
