nairalanda1: It isn't tinubu propaganda. See, APC did what PDP did,...kept and is keeping subsidy. Especially in the power sector, has it improved.?
Meanwhile, Obasanjo...your party man, let the GSM sector operate without subsidy, despite the fact that it was so expensive at the start, and despite the fact that people grumbled about MTN ripping us off. Result, today even poor people own phones. And can make calls abroad. Something that David Mark thought was impossible in the 1980's when he made his 'Phones are for the rich' comment.
You want refineries galore...subsidy has to go, so that huge profits can be made and reinvested in more refineries.
If that is tinubu propaganda, either you cannot see the benefits of a free market, and you also cannot see that Tinubu is still paying subsidy to the tune of billions of naira per month, and you also believe Obasanjo is a tinubu supporter in secret...
Must everyone who disagrees with you be a tinubu supporter? Haba!
If you are not a Tinubu worshipper, then why are you telling lies and spreading misinformation about fuel subsidies that he continues to pay and deplete the foreign reserves to subsidise and defend our Naira for the benefit of his cronies and fellow rogues
When, where and how did people grumble about MTN ripping us off 24 years ago?
Alaigbo: In essence PDP left Nigeria refineries to rot while billing the country bill in TAM yearly for the same refineries n their polices was neither here or there as Obasanjo de privatize Yardua de revoke the privatization.
You are right you got my point above clearly. PDP was the devil that ruined Nigeria 3 refineries n couldn't fix it back till Tinubu did
Tinubu did but no fuel supply from the fixed refineries? Are you alright
nairalanda1: At the expense of our forex reserves being drained and us not saving money.
That fuel should have cost over N130 at the time.
PDP Keeping subsides prevented investment in the refining sector.
GEJ should have told Tinubu and Buhari to sit down, and removed subsides in 2012 and left things at N140 per liter. Sure we would have suffered, but we would have had more than just Dangote refinery going up, and NNPC would have been working for its money instead of loooting under subsidy .
Balablu propaganda lies as usual.
Reserves are being drained and subsidy is being paid by Tinubu continuing APC’s failure under Buhari.
Melchizzedek: But N500 is way too much for something we have the raw materials and are produced locally. Logically speaking,It should be sold at N1 just as it is sold at $1 in USA.
Something that was bought for N87 when corrupt PDP had N18,000 minimum wage.
APC is a scam and a joke playing politics with people.
Alaigbo: You are right PDP over 16 years could not fix this with trillions of dollars wasted so it is difficult for any obidient ipob to believe Bola Tinubu can turn it around in less than a year. I get your pont
PDP being a private sector capitalist party didn’t emphasise repair but privatisation that Obasanjo did in 2007 before Yar’Adua reversed course.

IfnobeGod20: There's a systemic failure of governance all over Nigeria. There's no state that can conveniently say they have adequate and complete pipe borne water supply to her state. No state in Nigeria and if you think it is a lie, let us do a research on that. I can tell you the number of boreholes overweigh pipe borne water in Nigeria.
How is this an excuse for Peter Obi's failure in Anambra for eight years
Kaiser20: Did Tinubu build only Motor Parks for Agbadorians Agberos without good water system?
That must be what his Chicago master plan is all about- empower thugs and agberos to squeeze more money from the masses in addition to the huge IGR he is raising from them as government. Such a shame that we allow him to be our political leader.
sheriffden: “If Lagos Agberos were to constitute themselves into a state, they would be richer than 35 Nigerian states, second only to their home base, Lagos state.” – Anonymous
‘Agberos’ in Lagos generate an estimated annual revenue of N123.078 billion amassed from daily road use taxes levied on bus drivers, tricycle riders and motorcycle operators in the state. This is according to a recent research report by the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR).
An overview of the figures Levies on commercial buses (danfo) Each commercial vehicle driver pays at least N3,000 to Agberos as ticket fee. There are an estimated 75,000 commercial buses operating in Lagos, according to the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA). Estimated daily total collection: N225 million Estimated monthly total collection: N6.75 billion Estimated yearly total collection: N82.125 billion
Levies on Tricycle operators (keke napep) Each keke napep rider pays at least N1,800 to Agberos per day. There are an estimated 50,000 tricycles operating in Lagos, according to Techcabal. Estimated daily total collection: N90 million Estimated monthly total collection: N2.7 billion Estimated yearly total collection: N32.85 billion
Levies on motorcycle operators (okada) Each okada rider pays at least N600 to Agberos per day. There are an estimated 37,000 okada riders operating in Lagos, according to Motorcycle Operators Association of Lagos State (MOALS). Estimated daily total collection: N22.2 million Estimated monthly total collection: N666 million Estimated yearly total collection: N8.103 billion
The total annual revenue from the three major modes of transport in Lagos state amounts to N123.078 billion. The ICIR report admitted that these figures may yet be underestimated as daily levies on the transporters are much higher in some parts of Lagos including Mushin, Isolo, Itire/Ikate among others. Nigerian states with the highest Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in 2020 Lagos State recorded the highest Internally Generated Revenue of N418.99 billion, accounting for 32.1% of the total, closely followed by Rivers State with N117.19 billion. Other states with the highest IGR in 2020 include Abuja (N92.06 billion), Delta (N59.73 billion), Kaduna (N50.75 billion), Ogun (N50.75 billion), and Oyo State (N38.04 billion). As the data shows, Lagos Agberos surpassed all other states besides Lagos in revenue generation beating oil-producing Rivers State by a handsome N5.89 billion naira.
Where is the money?
The report found no trace that much of this revenue gets into government coffers as the money was not accounted for in the state’s annual financial statements. Also, the report revealed that “although the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) says on its website that ‘road taxes’ are among the 25 taxes that are collected by the state government….the government agency provides no evidence on the website that road taxes are being collected by the state government.”
The report further revealed that although some of the revenue was being remitted to the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and to the rival union RTEAN, the bulk of the money being generated was most likely completing its journey in private pockets. “The [motor park] chairman takes the huge chunk of the money, shares the rest to his subordinates and leaves little in an account operated by his union,” it stated. Why is the government looking the other way? The general consensus is that the ‘Agbero-industry’ thrives so well in Lagos because it is backed by powerful politicians who call in return favours to bully opponents and perpetuate violence during elections. It has also been alleged that many of these ‘godfathers’ are direct beneficiaries of the scheme.
Bottomline
The Lagos state government loses a great deal of revenue annually to these non- state actors. Suffice to say that these monies could have been channelled into critical infrastructure projects in the state. From the research data, it is also clear that Lagos and indeed Nigeria can function effectively without the need to borrow as much if the nation took the issue of taxes more seriously and plugged holes through which corrupt elements in the system syphon government revenues. Advanced countries with no crude oil resources function efficiently on tax revenues and even give financial aid to Nigeria. Why then is Nigeria’s case different?

Lawmaker scores Lagos Water Corporation low
A Lagos State lawmaker, Mr Saka Fafunmi, on Thursday expressed dissatisfaction at the performance of the state Water Corporation.
Fafunmi, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA), said in Ikeja that the corporation had not been able to justify statutory allocations to it.
The lawmaker, who represents Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 1 at the assembly, spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said that the corporation had the capacity to generate much fund internally through water rates but had relied solely on government funding because of poor performance.
'' Anyone that is using water will be willing to pay for it; the corporation has not been giving us water.
"Is there any new community that Water Corporation has given water? People depend on boreholes; even government estates have industrial boreholes.
"Why do we keep pumping money into an agency that does not give us the desired results?'' he asked.
He noted that the Adiyan Waterworks was located at Ifako-Ijaiye, where many of the residents had resorted to digging boreholes as a means of getting water.
''A lot of people are falling sick because they don't drink clean water.
''In the same compound, where you have sewage, is where you have a borehole.
''There is no way you can manage the sewage that it will not leak and pollute the water; everyone drinking such is drinking contaminated water,'' he said.
The lawmaker urged the corporation to increase water reticulation and supply to residents.

Was that not how Fayemi and co frustrated Jonathan's government by playing politics with petrol market deregulation
Na you dey play.
hisexcellency34: A former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, on Tuesday, said the protest that trailed the fuel subsidy removal during the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2012 was due to political interests.
Fayemi said this in his keynote address delivered at a national dialogue organised to celebrate the 60th birthday celebration of the founding National Secretary of Alliance for Democracy and Fellow, Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Professor Udenta Udenta in Abuja.
The programme was attended by Jonathan, former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili; former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, among others.
According to him, the last time Nigeria experienced economic development was during Jonathan’s administration
Fayemi said, “Today, I read former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s interview in The Cable saying our liberal democracy is not working and we need to revisit it, and I agree with him. We must move from the political alternatives. I think we are almost on a dead end of that.
“What we need is alternative politics and my own notion of alternative politics is that you can’t have 35 per cent of the vote and take 100 per cent. It won’t work! We must look at proportional representation so that the party that is said to have won 21 per cent of the votes will have 21 per cent of the government. Adversary politics bring division and enmity.
“All political parties in the country agreed and they even put in their manifesto that subsidy must be removed. We all said subsidy must be removed. But we in ACN at the time, in 2012, we know the truth Sir, but it is all politics.

Yeriman Bakura Marries 13-year-old Egyptian Girl
Written by By Emmanuel Bello, ABUJA Friday, 26 March 2010 22:41
Former Zamfara State governor, Ahmed Sani, Yeriman Bakura, has married a thirteen-year-old Egyptian girl. LEADERSHIP WEEKEND learnt that the marriage took place at the national mosque, Abuja, two weekends ago. The former governor, now a senator, paid a bride price of $100,000, the equivalent of roughly N15m. He also divorced one of his wives to facilitate the marriage. In Islam a man is only permitted to have four wives. Yeriman, who popularised the Shariah code of Islam in Nigeria, could not have the wedding in Egypt; the Egyptian authorities would not put up with such a marriage as their laws forbid that sort of union. Yariman Bakura is well into his 60s and the laws in Egypt consider his bride a minor.
The former helmsman of Zamfara State, however, in a deft move relocated the venue of the event to Nigeria, where he believes “anything goes”, said a source. The marriage was held in Abuja. The bride moved 30 members of her family over to Abuja where they were lodged in PROTEA Hotel in Asokoro.
An Islamic cleric who spoke to LEADERSHIP WEEKEND said that the whole thing goes counter-cause to Islam. He said that though there were no limits to how much can be paid as bride price, Islam still preaches moderation. According to him, the former governor flouted this caveat. Besides, said the cleric, Yeriman being a public office holder, should not have made such an ostentatious show of wealth.
Those who attended the wedding in Abuja include Sen. Kabiru Gaya, Maina Maaji Lawal, deputy governor of Zamfara State, Mukhtar Hanka, and the Emir of Bakura.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has said politicians’ sins are forgiven when they join the ruling party.
Oshiomhole made this statement on Thursday, while welcoming new members to the party, at the APC presidential campaign in Benin.
As he reeled out names of those who have defected from the PDP to the APC, he said: “I am told that there are a lot of very very senior people from PDP who have decided to join forces with President Buhari to take the broom to sweep away PDP and to continue to ensure that APC continues to preside all over Nigeria.
“It includes my own brother, my friend who comes from my own clime, Henry Duke Genebe. He is the former organising secretary of PDP and we also have former vice chairman PDP and leader of Edo North of PDP. We also have my brother Chief Esheshi Godwin. He is also former council chairman and my very dear friend. We have quite a number of other leaders who have come.
“We have quite a number of other leaders who have come… in fact, once you have joined APC, all your sins are forgiven.”

AntiTerrorist: I can prove Tinubu is a known drug lord – Reno Omokri
A former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri has stated that the All Progressives Congress, APC presidential aspirant, Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a known drug lord.
Omokri also said that he can prove Tinubu truly has a drug case in the United States and he went to the court where he was tried in Chicago.
TheNewsGuru recalls that the United State District Court for the Northern District of Illinois recently released fresh documents detailing Tinubu’s encounter with American authorities, over allegations of narcotics trafficking and money laundering.
The US court records showed that the former governor of Lagos State had forfeited up to $460,000 to the United States authorities in plea bargaining.
Omokri who is a critic of the APC flagbearer wrote on Twitter: “Tinubu is a known drug lord. I proved it by going in person to the Chicago court where he was tried. But I won’t slander him and say he did not go to a school I verified he attended directly from the horse’s mouth. If you must “take me out” due to that, be my guest!”
