Why do they allow such extortion to happen itubaba001: Lagos, the commercial hub of Nigeria, has been ranking as one of the worst places to live in the world for the nine straight years, a BusinessDay analysis shows.
Data from the 2019 Global Liveability Index published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the world’s leader in global business intelligence, shows the city has been within the range of 137th-139th position out of a total of 140 cities in the world from year 2011-2019.
https://businessday.ng/uncategorized/article/lagos-ranks-amongst-worst-cities-to-live-in-for-nine-straight-years/ The lack of state-owned pipe-borne water in the homes of Lagos residents has continued to be a source of concern, a non-profit group, Corporate Accountability and Public Advocacy Africa (CAPPA) has said.
At a press event to mark this year’s World Water Day, the group said its monitoring team’s visit to state-owned waterworks showed that most of them are not operational.
The group said the waterworks it visited include the ones at Maryland, Mushin, Ikorodu, Obalende, Agbowa, Onikan, Ikoyi, and Amuwo Odofin.
Only the one in Ikoyi is producing water, according to CAPPA.

LoneWolf212: Increasing salary won't be a bad idea. How about reducing the total package and pensions of serving & retired public office holders, like the governor, LASHA legislooters, LGA chairmen & councillors etc There are two former governors that by a 2007 law on pension for public office holder, are paid 100 percent of the basic salary of the incumbent governor, receive a house in Lagos and Abuja, six cars every three years and all expenses paid; medical treatment for the governor and members of his family. These persons also receive 300 per cent of their annual basic salary as furniture allowance, 10 percent as maintenance allowance, 20 per cent as utility allowance, and 30 per cent as car maintenance allowance. In a country so severely short in policemen to secure life and property, a former governor will also have eight policemen and two security operatives of the Department of State Services to protect them. These are only for the governors.
Bola Tinubu since 2007 has collected 24 cars under the pension provision and is due to collect another 6 cars in 2022. Babatunde Fashola who left office in 2015 has collected 6 cars and is due to collect his next batch of 6 cars in 2021.

•South West generates more VAT revenue than other 5 zones
•North Central generates least revenue
In the period under review, the South-West geopolitical zone generated N518.856 billion, which is more than the N499.084 billion generated by the other five zones and the FCT.

Johnrake69: Lol... Most of you are so ignorant. More than 400 public enterprises were privatised. And today only about 10% is still functional. What happened to the rest? If you think privatisation of public enterprises is the solution to our myriad of problems then, you're completely out of touch with reality. Please how many of the countries Nigerians are praying and fasting to japa to, have their businesses owned by the government as opposed to the private sector? Thanks |
Politics › Re: Chief Martin Agbaso Joins Labour Party In Imo State by anonimi: 8:54am On Jun 30, 2022 |
Johnrake69: You can download labour party's manifesto. It's people's oriented. No sane Nigerian will support APC or PDP after going through Labour Party's manifesto. In summary, the dogo turenci is a scam way of saying that LP is against privatisation, so that looters and rogues like Obi can continue the corruption that has wrecked government owned businesses like the NITELs of yore. Thanks to Atiku for deregulating the telcos sector with Obasanjo 22 years ago. Would we have nairaland without it solutionsnow: NNPC refineries are like buying a car in 1970 and retained it till 2019. It has been in use and not undergone major maintenance overtime. Since you bought the car, you gave the car to a driver for commercial purpose because he needs a job, you fuel it, do yearly registration renewals while you also pay the salary of the driver. You keep funding it because it is your asset.
A data from NNPC stated that the refineries made a loss of N132.5 billion in 2018 as well a loss of N95billion in 2017. Refineries which are huge revenue earner in some countries is a source of shame in Nigeria. What a pathetic thing to note that successive administrations have no solutions to the plight of those refineries.
I have carried out some maintenance works at Warri refinery a couple of times between 2014 and 2016. I must confess, that refinery is a carcass. With the knowledge of investment I have, I cannot buy it -even at a very low price- if I don't have modern technology and adequate finance to rehabilitate it. Take it or leave it, the refineries are long dead.
Eleme Petrochemical Limited is back to life and producing beyond installed capacity after it was privatised to Indorama Company from India. I was part of the team that participated in the expansion jobs in 2015 of that once upon a time, long dead company. Take a trip to Eleme Junction, Port-Harcourt, the trailers having businesses to do at the Eleme Petrochemical company will give you headache, just to know the company has been revived.
Finally, I still believe that privatisation is the way out. Indorama Eleme Petrochemical Limited (IEPL), located in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, a Group Company of Indorama Corporation, is a Poly-Olefins producer of a range of Polyethylene and Polypropylene products. IEPL was a 100% subsidiary of Nigerian Government owned Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) with the name Eleme Petrochemicals Company Limited (EPCL).
When the erstwhile EPCL was privatized, under the Privatization Program, the Indorama Corporation emerged as the core investor and acquired the Unit in August 2006. Since then, IEPL has recorded several achievements of smooth & stable operations, enhanced production capacities, winning of several global awards & certifications and has become a successful model of the Nigeria's Privatization Program
