PoliticsEdo Victory: Is INEC On The Path Of Glory Again? - Segun Showunmi by AnonPoet(op): 9:11am On Sep 23, 2020
When the will of the people is allowed to count, participatory democracy gets better for it. As humans, we have not evolved a better form of governance.

Congratulations to Governor Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party. Edo people have demonstrated once again what is historically known as a people with a proud heritage of independence, strength of character and courage of conviction. Indeed this is a call to all to serve the people and make their sacrifices well worth it.

There is no pretending as to the quality of leadership demonstrated by our campaign committee ably led by HE Nyesome Wike and all members of both the national campaign council and the Dan Orbih-led Edo State campaign council. We must particularly thank the security agencies for staying above the board in providing a secure environment for the entire process.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deserves commendation. Credible elections must be the norm and not the exception. On this, we say well done, for it has worked in practice what was rigorously planned by the commission.

To those who were not so lucky today, please do not see it as rejection by the people. Many dynamics go into why the populace take their decision, and on this occasion, they have chosen to stand with Obaseki of the PDP. It was a spirited contest, and now is the time to put the interest of the Edo people ahead of personal hurt.

The sun will shine again someday in the future. Our members must be sensitive to the frail nerves, for that is what makes us better democrats and better humans.

Be joyful and thankful to God and the people but recognise that there is only one Edo people under heaven. Oba ghato kpere Ise. PDP....Power to the People.

PoliticsMulti Taxation: Obiano Is Sitting On Our Neck And We Can’t Breath - Onyedika by AnonPoet(op): 7:27pm On Sep 22, 2020
In the Face of a Global Pandemic, Willie Obiano Choose to Frustrate Ndi-Anambra with Multi-Taxation

It’s very pathetic that when other state governors are giving tax relief and break, the governor of Anambra state who has not been able to prove what he has done with all the money he inherited from his predecessor, is busy imposing tax on traders and locking up markets and businesses.

Presently, Anambra is the least state when it comes to the ease of doing business in the country. It is obvious that Anambra has been on the reverse since the emergence of governor Obiano, traders have been complaining of low patronage due to the harassment their customers face in the hands of state hired louts when they come to buy in Onitsha – most customers from Ondo, Benin, Warri now choose Lagos as the favourite destination for buying.

The high taxation didn’t end with traders, it was as well extended to transporters, like Keke riders, urban mass drivers and others, you wonder why Asaba has taken over transportation hub from Onitsha, it’s due to uneasiness drivers face in Anambra, everyone now prefers to move to Asaba to board a bus.

The most worrisome part of this is that what Mr Obiano has been doing with all these revenues are not visible to eyes. The entire sector is collapsed, bad roads everywhere, dilapidated health institutions, decaying Education and no human capital development, you still wonder why investors are no longer finding Anambra attractive.

Truth is, for the average trader, marketer, rider, driver, farmers, small business owners and so on, Obiano is sitting on their neck and they can’t breathe.

BusinessBetting Companies In Kaduna Urge State Government To Lift Ban On Betting Shops by AnonPoet(op): 3:41pm On Sep 21, 2020
The Association of Nigerian Bookmakers is the national trade association of sports betting operators and our attention has been drawn to the recent forceful closure of several sports betting shops across Kaduna State by officials of Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) under the guise of alleged non registration and refusal to pay certain ‘debts’.

This came to us as a rude shock especially in the light of the prohibitive regulatory framework the KADIRS seeks to enforce on operators by this act.

Deliberations were ongoing with respect to the proposed regulatory framework and operators have submitted documentations to KADIRS stating their position.

During the pendency of deliberations as aforementioned and without a feedback to operators, KADIRS moved to enforcement. This move, to say the least, was done malafide and sends a message that the State is creating a hostile environment for investors which is at variance with the government’s policy to encourage investment in our economy.

We therefore urge KADIRS to act in good faith by unsealing forthwith all sports betting shops hitherto sealed up by its officials and reopen discussion with operators on the proposed regulatory framework for Kaduna State.
Signed,

The Executive Secretary

PoliticsEdo Election: Bayelsa PDP Congratulate Obaseki, Deputy And Party Members by AnonPoet(op): 1:51pm On Sep 21, 2020
EDO GUBER: BAYELSA PDP CONGRATULATES OBASEKI, DEPUTY, PARTY MEMBERS, IN EDO SOUTH SOUTH OVER VICTORY
...SAYS APC GODFATHERS WILL BE PUNISHED FOR IMPOSING UNELECTABLE SENATORIAL CANDIDATES IN BAYELSA

The Bayelsa State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Solomon Agwanana, has congratulated Governor Godwin Obaseki, his Deputy, Hon Philip Shuaibu, party leaders and members in Edo and the South South over the party victory in the gubernatorial poll in Edo State.

Agwanana said the victory of Obaseki signified the triumph of the popular will over the dictatorial tendencies of godfathers who willfully impose unpopular candidates on the people.

The PDP Chairman who described the outcome of the election as a victory for
Democracy said that he was certain that Obaseki would reward the Edo people with sustained provision of democratic dividends in the state.

He said that a similar fate of rejection awaits the leaders of the APC in Bayelsa who imposed unpopular and unelectable senatorial candidates on the people of Bayelsa West and Central Senatorial Districts of the people.

He noted that the APC leader in the state willfully imposed a candidate from Ekeremor on Bayelsa West when an Ekeremor man already occupies the position for the House of Reps in the constituency in an utter disregard popular sentiments and wishes of the people.

He stressed that the APC leaders had no regard for the desires and aspirations of the people because they bank on the Federal Might, soldiers, and a plan to compromise officials of the Independent National Election Commission to write results for victory in the election.

The party chairmen added that the reprehensible plot to engage a militia to subvert the will of the people would not work as the PDP has mobilized the people to reject them as was the case in Edo.

He calls on PDP leaders and members to get ready to defeat them decisively in all the polling units of the two senatorial districts.

PoliticsDesigners Of Nigeria At 60 Say Logo Was Not Paid For by AnonPoet(op): 3:04pm On Sep 18, 2020
STOP PRESS: NIGERIA @ The attention of Chain Reactions Nigeria, The Temple Management and TBWA/Concept have been drawn to an unfortunate conversation in some sections of the online media regarding the recently unveiled logo for the Nigerian Diamond Jubilee Celebration (Nigeria at 60) by President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR).

Without an announced budget or costing being declared from the Presidency, some social media commentators have hastily concluded that the logo was designed with an outrageous amount.

Should we put the perpetrators on a national medium to justify this claim with verifiable evidences, we will be offered with silence and mischief. The Nigeria at 60 logo was designed pro-bono out of sheer zeal and patriotism for Nigeria by a consortium of Nigerian marketing communications and talent management companies. This controversy is a great disservice to these Nigerian professionals who have invested their time into giving Nigeria a beautiful identity in commemoration of her 60th anniversary.

Attached is a letter by the SGF which categorically shows, in Paragraph 2, that the logo wasn’t paid for.

For now, we appeal to millions of good-spirited Nigerians, this celebration is ours. It is a celebration of the Nigerian people. Not even the present feeble wind will dampen our passion for our beloved country.
God Bless Nigeria

PoliticsDeji Adeyanju Debunks Domestic Abuse Rumors, Blames FFK’s Wife For Separation by AnonPoet(op): 7:00am On Sep 18, 2020
Human rights activists and Convener of Concerned Nigerians Group, Deji Adeyanju who is a close confident of former minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode yesterday in a series of tweets debunked the rumors making the round that domestic violence was responsible for the separation of FFK and his wife Precious Chikwendu saying the story was planted by her after their marriage crashed.

Social media was agog with several reactions of the duo’s separation until Deji Adeyanju wrote a series of tweets on Twitter about what really happened.

Deji took to Twitter to ask Precious when and how did FFK abuse her, if the abuse happened when she was pregnant or when her siblings and family members were living. He said her family members were always around in FFK’s home.

Deji who claimed to be close to the couple said he has been in the know on many of their quarrels in the past which he had even been invited to resolve several times and it was never about domestic abuse.

Deji also stated that FFK has done everything for Precious from supporting her beauty pageantry with about $500,000 at the start of their relationship to standing by her when she had several surgeries. He also claimed FFK took care of the medical bills of her parents who were battling with cancer amongst several others things.

Deji stated that Precious Fani Kayode knows where her problems are coming from and they are spiritual. Deji advised her to seek the face of God instead of chasing shadows. He also stated that the fact that she has survived this long is a testimony.

Deji recalled when Mrs Precious agreed to be checked into a mental home because of her mental issues and how she consequently ran away from the mental home.

Although FFK has been alleged by his previous wives of domestic violence, Deji tweeted that he cannot speak on that because he wasn’t a part of it but on the issue of FFK and Precious, Deji reiterated that it is not about domestic violence because she has never raised this issue, nor her family members that stay with them at home, or at anytime when Deji went to settle issues between she and her husband.

Deji recounted how Mrs Precious had lost her mind on several occasions and even attacked her husband FFK and other domestic staff with a knife.

Although, Deji subsequently deleted all the tweets, he however left several new tweets advising young people to stay away from toxic and crazy people and that marriage is not mandatory for all. We, however, gathered that Deji deleted his original tweets after FFK called him to do so saying no one should join issues with her publicly.

While we wait for an official statement from the Former Minister, Her Uncle who granted an interview with premium times debunked the allegations of domestic violence and said he had never witnessed anything like that in their home even as he confirmed that the couple were currently separated and hinted that their issues were caused by his niece instead of the domestic abuse making the rounds in the media.

Another source has hinted that The marriage started hitting the rocks because of a case of infidelity on her part last year where several people including pastors came in to resolve the issue and asked FFK to forgive her.

Precious Chikwendu, a former beauty queen is alleged by her uncle for always having “unapproved meetings” as he subtly put it to save face and added that her husband FFK could no longer tolerate it.

The couple, who are parents to four sons, including a set of two-year-old triplets, have been married since 2014.

although he subsequently deleted his tweets. we were able to get some of them.

PoliticsSegun Showunmi: Lose Akeredolu If You Will, But Do Not Push Ondo To 1983 by AnonPoet(op): 3:04pm On Sep 17, 2020
The news coming out of Akoko in Ondo State, where the thugs of the All Progressives Congress’ Rotimi Akeredolu, under his supervision, ran amok in front of the Oba’s palace, shooting and destroying the vehicles of his rival, Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party, requires the attention of all men of goodwill, especially President Muhammadu Buhari.

History must not repeat itself, as this ugly incident draws my mind back to 1983 when another Owo man was governor like Akeredolu in Ondo State. Those who were around then would shiver when they think back and remember the public disorder that became known as ‘wetie’.

A piece by Bayo Olupohunda in The Punch of November 8, 2016, captures the issue.
“The Second Republic, which was barely four years and three months old, was truncated when the military struck again in December of 1983 to bring to an end another corrupt and violent civilian regime. Once again, Ondo State, which had been carved out of the old Western Region as one of the five states created by former military ruler, Yakubu Gowon, erupted into an orgy of violence during the election of that year. One of Awolowo’s protégés, Adekunle Ajasin, was contesting re-election under the umbrella of the UPN. His deputy, Akin Omoboriowo, who had also fancied his chances had defected to the ruling NPN.

“He was backed by the federal might of the Shehu Shagari-led government. At the election, Ajasin had a clear lead, but the NPN, intent on taking the state from the UPN, had put Omoboriowo in a clear lead as a result was being announced. Then, the inevitable happened. The widespread protests that followed the announcement of Omoboriowo turned violent, and the state became a war front. Political thugs and supporters of both parties turned the state into a theatre of war.

“There were fears and apprehension as people loyal to one of the parties were targeted and killed. Houses were torched. The security agencies were powerless in a bid to rein in the perpetrators of the violence. In the end, Omoboriowo was driven out of the state and spent some time in exile. The 1983 violence was a repeat of the Western Region crisis. The effect of the violence was instant. It provided a further excuse for the military to put an end to the Second Republic that was already wracked by monumental corruption.”

Ondo is different in the Yoruba nation. They have demonstrated the ability to act their intention. They are brave, independent and fearless. Whosoever allows Ondo to go the way of violence risks too much. Mr President, you have a duty to read the riot act to all parties. Ondo must not go to the dogs. Rotimi Akeredolu, lose if you will, and go in peace, that you may salvage whatever is left of your battered image.

PoliticsSamuel Ogundipe Resigns From Premium Times Over El-Rufai, Dangote Stories by AnonPoet(op): 10:53am On Sep 16, 2020
Samuel Ogundipe, a top Nigerian journalist in Abuja, has resigned from Premium Times.

His resignation seems to be related to the story he did about Bello El-Rufai, who threatened to gang rape someone’s aged mother.

El-Rufai’s son publicly threatened to deal with Samuel for writing the story, but Premium Times didn’t do anything about it.

Weeks later, he tweeted about a document from Dangote that he received and his editor, Musikilu Mojeed, came online to attack him and threatened to punish him.

Many people attacked Mojeed on social media for conducting himself unprofessionally.

Samuel resigned a few weeks later and made his decision known on Twitter today, September 16.

He has now started a new digital media outlet, Peoples Gazette, in Abuja.

If this could happen at Premium Times it shows how tough journalism is in Nigeria, you have enemy both in and out.

We wish Samuel and his new team well.

PoliticsEdo 2020: Oshiomole Is Desperate And It Is Dangerous - Oke Umurhohwo by AnonPoet(op): 10:37am On Sep 15, 2020
Something terrible is happening in Edo state and has a recipe for bigger trouble. The electorates will go to the poll this weekend to determine who governs the state for another four years, but there is an impediment– Adams Oshiomole.

Oshiomole is a former governor in the state but he has his eyes gazed on something even bigger– annexing the state to himself. This is a man who was governor in the state for eight years and throughout his time in the office, created an impression that godfatherism is evil and should be resisted by whatever means necessary.

But Oshiomole has not only become the same ‘evil’ he repulsed a few years back, but he has also turned reckless in his lustful quest to lord over the people of Edo state. What this means is that Oshiomole now seems to be the opposite of what he advocated for some years ago and now desperate– and this makes him dangerous.

This was obvious in Oshiomole’s fickle character, viewing governance from the prism of what he will get and the level of control he has. Four years ago, Oshiomole was everywhere in Edo state, telling the electorates how Obaseki is the brainbox behind the success of his government, and voting him will move the state even higher.

In that same period, Oshiomole painted a shoddy image for Osagie Ize-Iyamu, a pastor, who he projected as unbefitting for the top political office in the state because he cannot be trusted with the ‘key to the kitchen’. But he has switched position, and went back to his putrid vomit of four years, moving door-to-door to foist on the state another administrator.

Oshiomole must have been frustrated by the fierce resistance he met in Obaseki, whom he had hoped would hand control to him and be able to rule the state by proxy. He was hoping to replicate the Lagos example in Edo state but he was wrong.

Now frustrated, Oshiomole is resorting to all kinds of maneuvering to dislodge Obaseki and force on the throat of Edo people the bitter pill he had in the past warned against. In short, Oshiomole is trying to introduce something unusual to Edo state– turning himself to the alpha and omega that determine the political direction of the state.

What I can say is that this posture poses a grave danger to our democracy and making it worse, is the desperation being exhibited by Oshiomole. Three weeks ago, a picture of the former governor kowtowing to Benin traditional chiefs went viral. It was the usual trick to lure people into subservient and a pronounced message of desperation.

That was why he could face the people and tell them he made a mistake with the choice of Obaseki four years ago. “I have made my honest mistakes,” Oshiomole told a gathering of APC members in Benin, the capital of Edo state, going on to say “Only God is perfect. I am now 68 years. I have come to apologise for the mistake of supporting Obaseki in 2016.”

This is ludicrous, to say the least. I assess that Oshiomole has lost it to desperation, and has let his selfish motive of annexing Edo state get the better side of him. Now that he is saying Obaseki was a mistake and he is “in Edo to repair my mistakes”, what is the assurance that he would not come back later to say the same thing about Ize-Iyamu if his plan to hold on to the state by proxy also failed.

After he was unceremoniously thrown out of the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship seat at the centre, it is understood that Oshiomole would be desperate to hold on to anything for political survival. But he is wrong to assume he is the one who should decide who governs the state in every election circle in a state that has people like Chief John Odegie-Oyegun, Chief Tom Ikimi, the Igbinedons and a host of others.

While Oshiomole, like every other Edo electorate, has a right to their choice on who should become governor in the state, it should be done without any attempt to force that choice on the entire state. That is not what we are seeing from Oshiomole, who is pushing all the buttons that worked for him in foisting his choice on Edo people in 2016.

The trouble with Oshiomole is that he is not reading the body language of Edo people enough, otherwise, he would have realized that he is traveling on a deserted route. Things are so bad that he is even struggling to convince people in his party on why he should be the landlord of the state, which must have aggravated his frustration. Anyway, he will be answered by the Edo people at the poll, and by that time, we will know whether the state will or will not fall to godfatherism like Lagos state.

PoliticsBashir Abdullahi: Power, Fuel Price Hike Ill-Timed by AnonPoet(op): 7:23pm On Sep 06, 2020
Convener of Hope Initiative Bashir Abdullahi II , on Sunday said that the upward review of electricity tariff in the country and increase of Petroleum pump price to N151 per litre is ill timed .

He made this known while speaking with our correspondent in Jos the Plateau state capital stressing that the increment at this time when COVID 19 is ravaging business would deepen poverty.

Bashir who is also the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Konad Groups also said that in as much as he supports the introduction of the deregulation policy by the Federal government ,this is not the best time to increase the price of petroleum products .

President Muhammadu Buhari had recently approved the implementation of the cost reflective electricity tariff for the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry, NESI, and increased the price of fuel .

The new tariff regime, which kicked off on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, has drawn the ire of Nigerians who see the development as exploitative.

Bashir a Builder by Profession said government needs to market reforms to the people in a better way and not assume that because Nigerians have been showing understanding and patience all along, there is nothing to worry about any more. You don’t implement these tough economic decisions without first trying to build support ,he stressed .

“The Government should have consulted its citizens first before carrying out an upward review on electricity tariff and increase of Petroleum pump price to N151 9.

Bashir described the increment as a disregard for the challenges” faced by Nigerians during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He also urged the Federal Government to rethink its decision to reopen schools across the country stressing that the decision was hasty .

He insisted that government must take practical steps to safeguard the lives of both the teachers and students before ordering the reopening of schools.

He cautioned that teachers and students would be vulnerable to the virus if schools were reopened without taking adequate measures to protect them from contracting the virus.

Bashir also called on the Federal Government to come up with a blueprint on how to address the perennial insecurity plaguing the country.

He said that insecurity was thriving in Nigeria, compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic and that the development was affecting the economy adversely.

Our President Muhammadu Buhari has what it takes to tackle insecurity, he has done well in the past and that was why Nigerians voted for him massively in the 2015 elections .

“Government needs to fashion out strategies to tackle the problem, which he said, had resulted to loss of lives in parts of the country.”

“This is essential because the primary purpose of every government is actually to provide security for its citizens.

“The issues of COVID-19 and the rising state of insecurity are affecting businesses. More so, this is affecting our farmers and the effect is already being felt.

“So, it is important for us to call on government to address the insecurity in the country.”

According to him the gains that have been made in recent years would be be reversed if there is insecurity

“I think the current strategy deployed in repelling attacks is not working and I think what is required is a new technique and strategy,No economy can thrive when there is insecurity ,he added

BusinessIs Harry Akande The Reason Shoprite Is Quitting Nigeria After Negating On Deals? by AnonPoet(op): 7:35pm On Aug 30, 2020
Billionaire Harry Ayoade Akande towers above many of his contemporaries, particularly because he has been in a warm embrace of fame for many decades.

Beyond his famed status as a successful businessman, he has also remained very relevant owing to his uncommon brilliance, a quality that has endeared him to many across the globe.

The Agbaoye of Ibadan, who set out to pursue his dreams quite early in life, had served as a business advisor and consultant to many other businessmen, including governments of several nations.

The world-class businessman in the past has scored many firsts in the nation’s business climate to the envy of many of his competitors.

Indeed, he would have scored yet another first in 2005, as the South African retail store, Shoprite, had several meetings with his company, AIC Limited, and agreed his company would be the exclusive operator and manager of its brand across West Africa, except Ghana where the Shoprite brand was already established.

Consequently, there were a series of business meetings between Akande’s representatives and Shoprite Checkers first in South Africa on April 16, 1998, and then at Akande’s office on Victoria Island, Lagos on May 27, 1998.

Shoprite was also said to have flown in representatives who were shown possible locations for retail stores at some locations, including Lekki Roundabout, Trade fair Complex and Lagos National Theatre, Iganmu.

But when the South African retail giant was ready to commence operations in Nigeria, it allegedly sidelined Akande’s AIC and incorporated another company, Retail Supermarkets Nigeria Limited, and began using the new entity to operate in Nigeria, thereby breaching agreements between them.

The billionaire was upset and this led to a prolonged legal battle with Akande securing a 2018 major victory against the South African retail group for breaching a contract between both parties in Suit No LD/488/2010 —AIC Limited (Claimant) v Shoprite Checkers (PTY) Ltd of South Africa and Retail Supermarkets Nigeria Limited (Defendants).

However, Shoprite owners appealed the judgment, while the Ibadan, Oyo State-born billionaire secured another victory in May 2020 at the appellate court.

Though the three-man panel of Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, didn’t agree to Akande’s cross-appeal, demanding 50 percent of $92.3 million as loss of profit he suffered due to the incorporation of Retail Supermarkets Limited, it unanimously affirmed the judgment of a Lagos High Court that awarded $10 million (N4.7 billion) damages against Shoprite Checkers (PTY) Limited.

Apart from the $10 million award, the court had directed the South African retail giant to pay 10 percent per annum on the damages, with effect from the date of judgment until the final liquidation of the entire sum.

Consequently, the shrewd businessman has initiated a fresh legal battle at the Federal High Court to halt Shoprite Checkers’ exit moves out of Nigeria until the entire sum demanded is paid to the last kobo.

The billionaire, through his company, has got an ex parte application for an order of Mareva Injunction restraining the South African retail giant, its privies, officers, nominees, successors-in-title, subsidiaries or anyone acting through it or by it from transferring, assigning, charging, disposing of its trademark, franchise and intellectual property in a manner that will alter, dissipate or remove these non-cash assets from the court’s jurisdiction.

ILIYASU GADU
Femi Fani-Kayode, (more popularly known as FFK by the initials of his name) the designer wearing son of Chief Remilekun Fani-Kayode, (Fanny power) Deputy Premier of the Western region in the first republic is the perfect example of a pig still being a pig even with a lipstick on.

Yes, he is on record to have attended the high-brow English public school Harrow and followed that up with a law degree from the prestigious University of London and a masters from the world famous Cambridge University.

But if the idea was to mould him in character and training in the best traditions of an English gentleman having attended these institutions of British upper crust society, it has proven to be a waste of expensive English public school education.

His bohemian lifestyle while in the United Kingdom included an addiction to drugs for which he had to seek spiritual and physical rehabilitation in Ghana. But till today he has not been totally cured of that habit which leads him to fits of boorishness, irascibility and thuggish behaviour unbecoming of the status he occupies in Nigerian public life.

Though he likes all too often to take pride in and show off his English public education as a badge of honour, unfortunately FFK does not live up to the genteel and hallowed requirement of an Oxbridger in all he does. In the public space which he courts and hugs for recognition and relevance he is always expected to exhibit his base, yobbish, uncouth manners of an alley cat at persons who are his betters in all parameters of life.

Last week, FFK was at his yobbish worst during a press briefing in Calabar where in response to a question from a Daily Trust reporter Eyo Charles as to who was financing the trips he (FFK) had been embarking on round the country, he let rip at the poor reporter. Suddenly FFK who takes it as licence to hurl volleys of invectives at just about anyone in Nigerian public life had his thin skin exposed. Like a boxer with a glassy jaw, which the gentlest of jabs was all that was needed to shatter his thinly covered veneer of respectability was ruthlessly exposed.

In those few minutes of foul mouthed rant at the reporter for asking the question, FFK sunk lower than the lowliest he had ever been in the public estimation of him. He never had any reputation of worth anyways. But it exposed him as a brittle minded fellow who can give but cannot take and confirmed that he is just a windbag and a self-servicer, worse than the people he all too often vilifies mostly without rhyme or reason.

With his latest oafish behaviour, it is about time FFK met his comeuppance. His verbal assault at the reporter should be seen as an attack at the very profession that provides him with the necessary oxygen and limelight to remain relevant in the Nigerian public space. If he did to a lawyer in the legal profession he belongs what he did to the journalist in Calabar he would have faced immediate sanctions. (Ask Governor El Rufai)

Suffice it to say he is not even reckoned with in the legal profession. Even the so-called “charge and bail’’ lawyers one sees often hanging around courtrooms are likely to have better records of achievement in the profession than him.

He is also not a political figure of note in his native Ile-Ife or Osun State even though he tries to present himself as one. He certainly will not win any political contest there. And in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of which he is a member, he is avoided like the plague for his impulsive, self-opinionated, gaffe-prone statements which often put the party in bad light, and which necessitate painstaking damage control measures to mend.

The lout has neither a sense of shame nor gratitude. In 1966 General Yakubu Gowon then as Army Chief saved his father from imminent death by mutinous soldiers when he ordered then Lt Paul Tarfa of the Guards Brigade to rescue and keep him under protective custody of loyal troops. Had General Gowon not intervened the senior Kayode would have almost certainly been dispatched to meet his maker on that occasion by the mutineers. FFK was a toddler then, and only God knows what would have become of him in later life. Yet even General Gowon had not been spared of this loony’s ingrained bad manners. He once issued a scathing, abusive retort to a statement the former military head of state made on the civil war.

That FFK has been indulged in the public space despite all the known and documented instances of his indecorous behaviours is attributable to two factors; he is the scion of an illustrious public figure in Nigeria who literarily was born and fed with a silver spoon, and also because of the fawning, uncritical indulgence of our media which tends to accord undue relevance to persons who went to the type of schools FFK attended abroad.

FFK is fannying around in his family’s shadow and in the inferiority complex of our media who believe that Nigerians who attended Ivy League institutions in America and Oxbridge in the United Kingdom possess uncommon wisdom. It is what makes otherwise vacuous and spastic individuals of his ilk to bask in the public space with a dubious sense of entitlement, advertising their self-importance in the full knowledge that the Nigerian media will indulge them uncritically.

In the aftermath of his intemperate and disgraceful outburst in Calabar, having temporarily returned to his senses and realised that he had gone beyond even the unduly generous allowance the media has given him, he attempted to climb down from his high horse. But it was done in a derisory manner which further reinforces the utter contempt FFK holds journalists and the journalism profession which ironically is the only profession that provides him with a platform to be relevant in Nigeria.

If the journalism profession in Nigeria has any modicum of honour at all it must put this designer wearing, drug addled thug in his place as an example to all who dare to treat it with levity.

PoliticsRe: Ekeremor PDP Cautions Against Ebebi’s Violation Of Power Sharing Arrangement by AnonPoet(op): 4:37pm On Aug 27, 2020
ENTRANCE INTO BAYELSA WEST SENATORIAL RACE

AS APC GROUP MOVES AGAINST FORMER D. GOV
INSISTS ON EXISTING POWER SHARING ARRANGEMENT

Deep resentments and anger have trailed the decision of a former Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Peremobowei Ebebi, to join the contest for the vacant Bayelsa West Senatorial District seat.

Political stakeholders are uncomfortable with the decision of the former Deputy Governor because it violates an unwritten agreement on power rotation between the two local government areas making up the district.

The position of Senator and member of House òf Representatives in Bayelsa West Senatorial District are shared between the two councils.

Last month, the top political stakeholders held a critical meeting where it was decided that Ekeremor people should not contest the vacant position in adherence to the existing agreement on power rotation since they already have the incumbent House of Representatives member.

The Bayelsa West Senatorial seat became vacant following the resignation of Sen Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo from the upper chambers to contest as the running mate to Gov Douye Diri.

Political leaders of Sagbama and Ekeremor issued a joint statement where it was stated that Sagbama should complete the tenure of Ewhrudjakpo for an Ekeremor person to start a fresh tenure in the spirit of the age long agreement on power sharing or rotation in the area.

The former Deputy Governor who has indicated interest in the Senatorial contest is from the same Ekeremor Local Government as Hon Fred Agbedi who represents the area in the Lower chambers.

According to the existing agreement, the Senatorial slot and the House of Representatives seat are shared between the two local government areas.

The opposition to an Ekeremor candidate cuts across party lines as the key political operators from the two local government areas continue to insist on the existing power sharing arrangement.

Prominent APC politicians and coordinators in Ekeremor Constituency 1 in collaboration with APC GRASSROOT MOBILIZATION SAGBAMA/ EKEREMOR have severally condemned in strong terms the decision of Ebebi or any other person from Ekeremor to contest in the Senatorial election.

Any other young person in the race from Ekeremor maybe forgiven for their ignorance to the existing arrangement except Ebebi who himself has been a major proponent of the power sharing arrangement and has benefited as Speaker and Deputy Governor from the district even at times when Ekeremor also had a senator.

The Chairman, APC Mobilizations Group, Mr Ebide Brown, said that the stakeholders in the local government area would resist any unconscionable assault on the zoning arrangement.

He said it was unjust and unfair for an Ekeremor person to contest in the Senatorial election with Fred Agbedi occupying the House òf Representative seat in the National Assembly.

He said, “No Candidate can undermine the tenets of the zoning arrangement and expect us to work for him.

”We have resolved not to work for any candidate from Ekeremor because it is wrong. The candidate of APC in the Senatorial bye election should be from Sagbama since Hon. Fred Agbedi is in the House of Representatives now. We cannot deviate from the zoning arrangement between Sagbama and Ekeremor. The zoning arrangement must be honoured for the sake of posterity and I expect my party, the APC to do so. We cannot just go against the wishes of the people and count only on federal might to win election”

PoliticsEkeremor PDP Cautions Against Ebebi’s Violation Of Power Sharing Arrangement by AnonPoet(op): 4:07pm On Aug 27, 2020
The Peoples Democratic Party Support Group in Ekeremor Local Government Area has cautioned a former Deputy Governor òf the State, Chief Perebowei Ebebi, against violating an existing power sharing arrangement in Bayelsa West Senatorial District.

The Coordinator of the Group, Mr Green Alfred, said in a statement on Wednesday that it was unconscionable for Ebebi who is from Ekeremor Local Government Area to participate in the Senatorial election when another Ekeremor man, Chief Fred Agbedi, represents the area in the House of Representatives.

He said that it was reprehensible and pathetic for the former Deputy Governor to attempt to play politics with the peace, harmony and bonds of unity binding the people of the two local government Areas together.

He warned that the peaceful coexistence between the people of the area cannot be sacrificed for the political ambition of a person.

Alfred said that it was condemnable for Ebebi to make himself available to be used to create disharmony between the people of the area by violating a political power sharing arrangement that has ensured peaceful coexistence among the people.

The group said that Ebebi’s action came as a rude shock to the people of Ekeremor as he himself had been one of the major beneficiaries of the prevailing arrangement as Speaker and Deputy Governor of the State.

The Group’s Spokeman said that it was curious that a supposed political leader would be driven solely by the crave to occupy office for pecuniary benefits.

Alfred called on all the good people of Ekeremor to prevent what he termed as a bad precedence which could cause political crisis, bitterness and acrimony in the area.

He stressed that the Group expressed concern over Ebebi’s violation of the existing agreement not because he has the capacity to win any election in the area but because of the need to preserve political sanity in the area.

He recalled that Ebebi did not make any developmental impact in Ekeremor when he held sway as Speaker and Deputy Governor of the State for a period of almost 10 years cumulatively.

He said that it took the PDP Government of former Gov Dickson to construct a road from Sagbama through Ebebi’s community, Aleibiri to Ekeremor for the first time.

He added that Ex-Gov Dickson built a polytechnic, a boarding school, a general hospital and many other facilities at Ekeremor which would feature prominently during the campaign.

He wondered what Ebebi would tell the Ekeremor people to convince them to
Vote him and his party with his brand of politics, unstable, inconsistent and unreliable antecedents.

He said that the PDP would await Ebebi and his party at the poll.
