HealthSeveral Bodies On The Streets Of Toamasina, Madagascar. Government Deploy Doctor by AnonPoet(op):
AFP) - Madagascar's government has announced it will dispatch troops and doctors to an eastern town after several bodies were found in the streets and where two people died from the novel coronavirus.

Madagascar's cabinet held a special meeting on Sunday to discuss the situation in Toamasina, the country's second largest city.

The Indian Ocean island nation has registered 527 infections and two deaths, both in Toamasina.

Since Thursday, more than 120 new cases were confirmed, and several bodies were found in the city's streets though the cause of death was not clear.

"Doctors must carry out thorough examinations to see if these deaths are caused by another illness (...) or if they are really due to severe acute respiratory problems which is the critical form of COVID-19," Professor Hanta Marie Danielle Vololontiana, spokesperson for the government's virus taskforce, said in a national broadcast on Sunday.

The government will send 150 soldiers to reinforce Toamasina, maintain order and enforce measures against the coronavirus such as mask wearing and social distancing.

The cabinet also fired Toamasina's prefect without providing any explanation.

A team was also ordered to distribute a drink based on artemisia, a plant recognised as a treatment against malaria, which the Malagasy authorities claim cures COVID-19.

The potential benefits of this herbal tea, called Covid-Organics, have not been validated by any scientific study.

The cabinet has also announced an investigation into the death of a doctor in Toamasina. According to local press, the victim was hospitalised after contracting COVID-19 and was found dead hanged in his room on Sunday morning.

PhonesWhy Olamide And Itel Mobile Are A Perfect Fit by AnonPoet(op): 7:26am On May 23, 2020
It’s easy for anyone to refer to themselves as kings. But not everyone puts in the work and efforts that make them real kings.

However, there is a relationship that helps with understanding and appreciating what real kings stand for. It’s the partnership between smartphone giant, itel Mobile, and famous Afro-pop star, Olamide.

It is no news that both brands connect on so many sides. They know exactly how to take care of people, and that they are working together at this time to serve a joint kingdom of brand lovers and fans does not come as a surprise.

itel and Olamide speak the same language in terms of what they stand for and offer. They are manufacturers of enjoyment and providers of necessity in large quantities.

If you want to talk about aspirations, both brands support this as much as they can, without relenting and dropping the ball. You’d find this in the catalogue of mobile communication devices from itel Mobile. It is also easy to spot this element in the songs and albums released by Olamide. With this partnership, it is the complete package deal for the brands’ lovers who want more happiness and more wins.

Breaking the Limitation of Lighting Context to Deliver “Clear in Every Shot”
OPPO has always been at the forefront of technology breakthroughs specific to smartphone photography performance innovation. Reno3 Series is here to challenge all lighting conditions of our daily life and to deliver photo&video of outstanding quality.

In the back, packed with 64MP Zoom Quadcam which includes 64MP Ultra-clear Main Camera, 13MP Telephoto Lens, 8MP Ultra Wide-angle Lens and 2MP Mono Lens, Reno3 Pro can meet the needs for ultra-wide angle, normal, and telephoto photography, even up to 20x Digital zoom. Pairing with Ultra Clear 108MP Image, daily photography is greatly improved without missing any details.

In the front, 44MP Ultra-clear Main Camera delivers high-definition selfies with authentic details of people’s facial texture and ornaments. On top of that, to make everyone appear natural and beautiful when taking selfies, OPPO puts a groundbreaking endeavor of its first Dual Lens Bokeh on the front cameras on Reno3 Pro, enabling better image matting and background gradient for selfies taken alone and in a group, especially when people pose differently.

For the first time, OPPO has added Ultra Night Mode algorithm in the front cameras. As taking selfie at night is a popular scenario for young explorers, Ultra Night Selfie Mode guarantees them to capture the facial clarity and brightness in dim light.

Moreover, the Ultra Dark Mode on rear camera makes photo taking in the dark so much easier. When ambient lighting is lower than 1 lux, Ultra Dark Mode will automatically turn on to help you capture the scenes that human eyes could not see. Using NPU, the Ultra Dark Mode realizes AI algorithm acceleration, challenging scenarios such as pubs and streets at night, which will be perfectly captured.

Notably, Reno3 Series is another strong proof of OPPO’s consistent endeavor to bring lab technology such as Lossless Zoom to everyday use cases. In fact, OPPO has always been a trailblazer in the field of zooming technology. On Reno3 Series, OPPO brought this cutting-edge technology closer to more users with 5x Hybrid Zoom and 20x Digital Zoom, especially optimized user scenarios when taking portraits or capturing words from a lecture in a distance.

Regarding videography on Reno3 Series, the Ultra Steady Video has evolved into Ultra Steady Video 2.0, with two modes for extreme and life scenarios respectively. Attitude assessment and compensation are carried out more accurately by Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS). The anti-shake effect, smoothness, and image quality are greatly improved. Ultra Steady Video 2.0 enhances stability for videos taken, minimizing impact on clearness, while retaining slight motions to maintain an authentic visual expression.

Together with Video Bokeh, Video Zoom and AI Beauty Mode, Reno3 Series stimulates the imagination of users by rendering movie-like videos easily. Soloop, the Smart Video Editor, comes in handy for beginners who can confidently get it started to record life stories via videos.

Innovative User-centric Design of OPPO Aesthetics

The Reno3 Series is further innovated based on OPPO’s design language, carrying on OPPO’s brand aesthetics to deliver and show the lightweight, infinite beauty of technology to users. Inspired by the natural light appearing on the sky, the Reno3 Series comes in Midnight Black and Auroral Blue respectively showing the beauty of the mysterious midnight and cheerful morning.

With ColorOS 7, Reno3 Series also offers a significantly improved gaming performance to provide an immersive and smooth gaming experience. Touch optimization increases the frequency of touch scanning while reducing unnecessary processes, and further ensures that touch response remains fast even in low power conditions. It also reallocates system resources by detecting and predicting scenarios to realize frame rate optimization, meaning that games run smoothly, even in heavy-loading scenarios. Plus, with Elevoc algorithm, Reno3 Series can eliminate howlround experienced in voice chats during gaming, which can be caused when players are too close to each other.

BusinessSunti Sugar To Retain All 2,400 Staff Despite COVID-19 Challenges by AnonPoet(op): 10:38am On May 14, 2020
The raging coronavirus pandemic is leaving in its trail, job losses and economic instability, however, the Sunti Golden Sugar Estate, a Nigerian company has said it is retaining all its 2,400 employees and keeping the facility at full operation.

According to Joseph Umolu, the company’s director, Corporate and Legal Services, Sunti had just concluded its crushing season, harvesting 146,200 tons of sugar cane and producing 15,860 tons of sugar. He further stated that the company also produced 9,640 tons of molasses and 11,600 MWh of electricity generated using bagasse (sugar cane fibre) as fuel. The company is now entering its cultivation season and plans to maintain high levels of employment to ensure a seamless process.

“At this time, when COVID-19 is causing so much job insecurity, Sunti has maintained its staff strength to do the cultivation of sugarcane, gapping, irrigation, weeding and fertiliser application, as well as maintaining the factory during the off-crop” he said in a press statement.

The sugar company, which is a subsidiary of the Flour Mills of Nigeria Group (FMN) also says it had employed strategic measures initiated by the FMN group to ensure the safety and welfare of employees, suppliers, customers and other stakeholders.

According to Umolu, the new health and safety strategy was part of the general measures being deployed by the FMN Group to keep all its facilities, including the Sunti Golden Sugar Estate safe from the COVID-19 virus.

He stressed that before the pandemic, the Sugar estate already had strict health and safety measures in place, therefore all it needed to do was to upscale the measures to comply with recommended COVID-19 safety protocols.

“Sunti already operates under the highest health and safety standards even before the coronavirus lockdown policy by the Federal Government.

“To help employees deal with the growing pressure of working during the current period, Sunti Golden Sugar Estates has issued palliative food products to all its employees as well as created a strategic food reserve for employees, should the disease persist and conditions become tougher,” he said.

He added that despite the restricted movement, the estate being in the essential food sector had continued full operations to ensure the availability of sugar in Nigeria.

Umolo also noted that the community had not been left out, stating that the 26 communities that makeup Mokwa had benefitted from 4,000 cartons of noodles as part of FMN’s N400m food relief programme. The company also utilised more local contractors during its harvest, thereby creating more jobs for the community.

PoliticsOil Price: Nigeria And The New Reality By Oke Umurhohwo by AnonPoet(op): 11:55am On May 13, 2020
For years, Nigerians have cheerfully accepted the false impression that oil wealth will last forever. When nations cultivate lands, working their brains to stretch revenue stream, and build things that would stand the test of time, Nigeria was lost in the illusion that revenue from oil is enough and have no reason whatsoever to explore other potentials that nature bestowed on us.

Cheap money, as many people often describe oil revenue, is a reality Nigeria leadership for over 53 years of exploration, think would never change. Look at the reckless abandonment of the agricultural sector, the eroded value of education, and the sheer negligence of other valuable natural resources. This will show you how the fate of the country is placed on oil derivation.

And when anyone least expected, coronavirus pandemic struck the world and almost everything changed from what they used to be. From social lifestyles to the economy, things have changed drastically and presented a new reality for everyone. Though we anticipated a change, it came quicker than expected.

In late April 2020, the world was thrown into confusion after West Texas Intermediate (WTI), the benchmark for US crude oil, shed a substantial amount of price value and turned negative. By Tuesday, the pressure stretched to Brent Crude, whose futures for June delivery lost 15% to trade near $16 a barrel, the lowest in almost 21 years.

And that is a piece of unpleasant news for Nigeria, who will see a sharp drop in oil receipts due to the unfolding development. That is the new reality and Nigerians should not let them be cut unaware. Let no one deceive you, the party is over and the option left for everyone is to adapt to the new reality.

The signs have been there for a while now, but those in charge of governance failed to pay serious attention and now that it is here, we may pay a huge price for their inefficiency and negligence. Even though the government had overtime assure Nigerians of the move to limit dependence on oil, the implementation remains largely unseen. As of today, a larger share of government revenue still comes from oil sale and that makes any drop in the price of the commodity a big blow on the country.

You could almost sense that things look awry when the federal government reviewed the 2020 budget downward as revenue prospects dropped. Even at that, there are likelihoods that budget deficit will go up as much as N4 trillion, much higher than the N2.2 trillion projection in the fiscal document signed by President Muhammadu Buhari late last year.

Before our very eyes, we’re seeing the supposed black gold that Nigeria has counted on for years shedding value and there is hardly any alternative to cushion the effect of the shortfall. The disturbing thing is that we may have left it too late and mitigating the impact of the new reality may be tougher than the government would want us to believe.

Already, coronavirus has done immeasurable damages to economies across the globe and Nigeria isn’t an exception. As a consequence, many companies would have a tough time returning to normalcy when the pandemic restrictions are eventually lifted and may result in the sack of many working in the private sector.

Though the government may not be able to follow that route due to fear of public backlash, however, some may struggle to meet up with salary obligations. And when that happens, it will further strain the distressed economy as that would enormously reduce the purchasing power of citizens and send many citizens into acute poverty.

Before the virus struck and forced a drop in demand for oil, Nigeria’s economy is struggling to catch-up and the government was on the verge of securing over $22 billion external loans to fund some selected projects. That decision sparked protests from some Nigerians who feared the borrowing spree posed a danger to the future of a country that is already owing in excess of $87 billion.

Now that the whole world is struggling with the effect of coronavirus, there is a serious doubt that any lender would be prepared to give out such a huge amount and the fall in oil price means the country would have to cope with the little that comes to its treasury. That scenario, experts warn could have devastating impacts on people from low-income households.

HealthCOVID-19: Itel Mobile Partners With Lagos Food Bank To Give Back To Ipaja by AnonPoet(op): 3:26am On May 11, 2020
In Nigeria, one out of every three people lives below the poverty line. And with the coronavirus pandemic wreaking havoc on the global economy, employed persons are slipping into the brackets of the unemployed, and the struggles of people in underserved communities with little or nothing to feed on have been compounded due to the government sanctioned lockdowns in COVID-19 hotspots.

However, heeding to the call to provide relief for affected communities around Nigeria are itel Mobile and Lagos Food Bank, an NGO based in Lagos, Nigeria. United by the aim of reducing hardship worsened by the coronavirus, the smartphone for everyone brand, through its Love Always On CSR Initiative, and the NGO, reached the residents of Ipaja, Ayobo, and adjoining communities in Lagos state at a time when they needed it the most. Raw food and relief items were provided to the semi-urban community’s households as part of their relief efforts, and at the forefront of these efforts are a deep concern and care for their communities.

Commenting on the brand’s CSR campaign, Oke Umurhohwo, itel’s Marketing Communications Manager said:
“I am very proud to be a part of a brand who is giving back to the communities where we live and work. We know that this period is a tough one for many families because of the lockdown, and as such, we are happy that our CSR activities are able to give families a measure of relief. It’s also worth noting that our CSR initiative themed: Love Always On will continue to impact lives, even after this pandemic has been thoroughly defeated.”

HealthOke Umurhohwo: Kano Is In Trouble But They Are Not Alone by AnonPoet(op): 10:34am On May 10, 2020
Eventually, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the governor of Kano state has confirmed what we've feared for some time. Ganduje who had done almost everything to dismiss fears that coronavirus, otherwise known as COVID-19, is spreading at an alarming rate in the state, took many by surprise when he raised an alarm that Kano is in trouble as a result of the virulent scourge. You must be definitely rattled but that is the truth the governor has struggled for so long to admit.

Speaking at a brief ceremony to take delivery of a COVID-19 Mobile Testing Centre donated to the state by the Dangote Foundation, Ganduje said that "there is no doubt that Kano is in trouble. And there is no doubt that we started on a shaky foundation." But as usual, the governor tried to absolve himself of any blame for the exploding number of coronavirus infections.

For him, it was the inability to have test results in time because "when samples were taken to Abuja for 7 hours and came again in 7 hours, that was the shaky foundation I'm talking about." But he was not done, Ganduje added that "we then lodged our complaint to President Muhammadu Buhari, who ordered for the establishment of a Testing Centre at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, which after take-off was shut down for some days if not weeks. That was what escalated the transmission of the disease up to community transmission."

Unfortunately, Ganduje came out late to admit what almost everyone knew is ravaging Kano state. Perhaps, the governor is cornered by the findings of a presidential panel that coronavirus, not "complications arising from hypertension, diabetes, meningitis, and acute malaria" were responsible for the surge in deaths recorded in Kano state recently.

I've always wondered on how the governor would respond when he can no longer hide the truth about the rate of infections in Kano, and when Dr. Nasiru Sani Gwarzo-led presidential panel suggested that coronavirus is deep in the state than thought, the alarm by Ganduje that 'Kano is in trouble' stirred serious fear in me. Yes, the governor mentioned Kano as being in trouble but the implication of the state facing such health trouble is that no place in Nigeria is entirely safe.

As you can probably tell, I shared similar fear in a previous article entitled "Kano should worry all of us", where among other things, held that "the frightening thing is that if the spread of disease as contagious as coronavirus go unchecked in Kano, it would pose a grave threat to neighbouring states and other parts of the country." It is almost certain that we all have something to be worried about because Kano, as we know it, may seem far to your present location in a real sense, but it could be closer if you look at it objectively.

What I'm trying to tell you is that, with Kano in trouble, it would easily spread to neighbouring states, and exposed other parts of the country to the invisible enemy. And it shouldn't require a lot of analysis for anyone to understand this simple truth. It should be something everyone should know by now and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.

However, let me stir your consciousness if you seem not observant enough. Just as experienced in Kano sometimes ago, some northern states are also reporting a surge in unexplained deaths. In the space of five days, a local government in Jigawa state, Hadejia lost about 100 people to mysterious deaths and like Kano in the initial stage, they are attributing their deaths to "high fever, diabetes, and high blood pressure".

When you take into consideration that most of the deceased are those advanced in age and that Hadejia local government is about 177 kilometers from Kano, then you'll have more than enough reason to be apprehensive. As this confusion was going on, many states in the north are reporting an increase in the rate of infections, and some unexplained deaths as well.

But that doesn't really capture the issue at stake. This trouble as admitted by Ganduje cannot be measured only as per what is going on in that state or neighbouring states, but the possibility of it becoming a national problem. The disease is moving at a disturbing pace and authorities that should be pushing strong resistance, are too engrossed in denials than fighting the common enemy.

Who knows how widespread the disease has gone as authorities try to pretend things are in control but not walking their talks? This week alone, I've read news of states experiencing rising incidents of unexplained deaths, and that is to tell that the trouble may have gone beyond that of Kano alone. To tell you the kind of fix we are, as I'm writing this piece, a text message from National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed my fears.

The agency responsible for the control of disease outbreak said "There are coronavirus cases in almost all Nigerian States, even those who have not traveled. Anyone can be affected. Follow guidance from health authorities." After reading that text, I know that, indeed, Kano is not the only one in trouble. Things, it seems, are not under control as the government tries to make us believe and everyone, as I've always advised, should take necessary precautions to keep themselves safe.

Don't go out if you have no reason to do so, and when you do, ensure you use a mask to shield your nose and mouth from droplets that could come from an infected person, and consistently, watch your hands thoroughly. The time to live under the illusion that all is well is not now, so, go about your day with caution and don't make a costly mistake of thinking anywhere is safe. Stay healthy because we'll definitely win this enemy.

PoliticsBayelsa West Needs A Leader Like Dikson – Sagbama And Ekeremor Leaders by AnonPoet(op): 3:33pm On May 08, 2020
Prominent Bayelsa political leaders and elders have called on the people of Sagbama and Ekeremor to give the requisite support to the former Governor òf Bayelsa State, the Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson in the bid for the Bayelsa West Senatorial slot in the National Assembly.

The elders agreed with unanimity that Hon Dickson was the best candidate for the Senatorial slot and should be supported by all to fill the vacant position.

They stressed that Bayelsa West and the Ijaw nation require a person with a vast knowledge of the workings of the National Assembly like Dickson who served the area effectively as a member of the House of Representatives.

The political leaders noted that there shouldn’t have been any need for a contest for the vacant position if not for the need for election in a democracy to fill the position going by the former Governor’s antecedents, achievements and demonstrated commitment to the development of the Ijaw nation.

The leaders and elders, in a statement signed by Former commissioner, former Chairman Governing Council, Federal Polytechnic, Ekowe, Hon Etiffa Bekeakpo and former Senior Special Assistant to President Jonathan on Household and Domestic Matters, Chief Sylbriks Obiriki on Thursday, said that the political leaders after extensive deliberations decided to go for the ex-Governor because of his track record as a politician who displayed incontrovertible commitment to the defence and promotion the interest of the Ijaw nation.

They described former Gov Dickson as an asset who is available to be utilized to contribute to the pressing need to defend the burning issues of interest to Bayelsa, the Ijaw nation and the Niger Delta.

They said that it was not in doubt that ex-Governor Dickson has the experience and proven capacity to defend the interest of his people, the state, the Ijaw nation, the Niger Delta and indeed the country.

They recalled that the former Governor who has a vast network of contacts registered an exemplary performance as a member of the House òf Representatives even before his election as Governor and was perfectly good for the Senate.

Etiffa and Obriki added that the former Governor gave the necessary attention to the projection of critical issues of concern to the Ijaw nation such as Resource Control, restructuring, and others across the country.

They said further that the leaders would embark on massive mobilization of the people of the area to give him the expected support.

“The senate is the highest law making body in Nigeria therefore you need a man like the Honourable Henry Dickson who understands the politics of the country who has a vast knowledge in law making having served as a member of the House of Representatives. He is more qualified than any other politician from the Bayelsa west senatorial district with his capacity for networking and vast contacts

“He has made his marks in governance and has proved to be a tested leader with incontrovertible interest in the development of our society.

“He has the experience and the capacity to articulate the issues affecting Bayelsa, the Ijaw nation the Niger Delta and Nigeria. He has done it before and is trusted to do it again.

“We call on all to mobilize support to achieve the desire of the Bayelsa West people for effective representation at the Senate.

“We thank all those who have endorsed him for being on the favored side of history. As soon as this Corona virus saga is over, we would embark on massive mobilization in the pursuit of the collective will of our people.

“It is stating the obvious that he is the best for Bayelsa West, Bayelsa, the Ijaw Nation, the Niger Delta and Nigeria.” The statement added
