PoliticsInter-Zonal Rivalry Exposing EFCC Operatives In Lagos To COVID-19 Infection by AnonPoet(op): 11:16am On Jan 31, 2021
At least 12 operatives have tested positive to due to the zone’s complete disregard of the government’s COVID-19 protocol , sources say.

In the quest to emerge the zone with the highest number of arrests and convictions, the authorities at the Lagos zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes (EFCC) are exposing operatives to COVID-19 infection , PREMIUM TIMES has learnt.

Sources at the Lagos zonal office of the commission, who asked not to be named because they could be punished for talking to the media, told this newspaper that the leadership of the zone, while relentlessly pushing to outdo other zones in the country, in the number of arrests and convictions, have provided next to nothing in personal protective gears for field operatives.

They said the Lagos office has carried on its business with a complete disregard of the government’s COVID -19 protocols.

Since the second wave of the pandemic, no fewer than 12 operatives at the EFCC Lagos office has contracted the virus, the sources said.

EFCC Operations

The EFCC’s Operations Department, which runs its business in at least 15 zonal offices across the country, is the centre of the commission’s investigations. The department, which is headed by a director, reports directly to the agency’s executive chairman.

According to our sources, there exists a friendly rivalry among the 15 zones of the commission, which is mainly used as a bragging right among operatives. However, the best performing zone was given an award once, though no formal recognition for the best performing zone has been given since then, some zonal heads have made sure their units score the most arrests and convictions.

They usually encourage operatives under them to go after suspected internet fraudsters, who make up the bulk of the arrests by the commission.

However, the sources explained that while the inter-zonal rivalry is primarily an ego-boosting exercise, operatives are required to list the cases they prosecuted successfully during staff appraisal exercises and promotion examinations.

Business as usual
Since the outbreak of the commission, the sources said the authorities at the Lagos office of the commission has carried on its business as if they were oblivious of the outbreak of the pandemic.

They said apart from EFCC branded masks that were given to operatives, the commission has failed to adhere to the government’s COVID-19 prevention protocols.

“Last October, each operative was given on EFCC branded mask. That was all the commission has done in term of provision of PPE against coronavirus. Yet they keep pushing us to raid yahoo boys and other fraudsters,” said one of the operatives.

“As of today, at least 12 operatives have tested positive for coronavirus at the Lagos office yet our bosses are acting as if nothing has happened. Sometimes positives officers infect negative suspects.

One of the officers, who said he has a mild underlying condition, which makes him a potential candidate to develop acute COVID-19 symptoms, said they are fearful for their lives, if they caught the virus.

The sources explained that during the weekend of January 16 and 17, 2021 about 80 suspected internet fraudsters who were arrested from two raids in the city were all thrown into a congested cell at the Lagos office.

“The commission does not conduct coronavirus test for its arrested suspects. The commission only conducts COVID-19 for suspectS before handing them over to be remanded by the Nigerian Correctional Service because they will not take any suspect who has not done a COVID-19 test, However, because our detention cells are usually congested imagine how many other suspects and officers those suspects who are positive before they were arrested would have infected during the time they are in our custody,” one operative said.

We are strictly enforcing COVID-19 prevention guidelines – EFCC

When reached for comment, the spokesperson of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, said he was not aware of that 12 operatives have tested positive for the virus at the Lagos zone of the commission. He, however, said the leadership of the zone has taken “extra step of guaranteeing the safety of staff.”

Some of these steps, Mr Uwujaren said, included the issuance in December of “fresh guideline advising staff to maintain social distancing in all offices and official engagements, limit the number of persons allowed in the elevator to 4, made it mandatory for all staff and visitors to the EFCC to wear face masks, stopped staff from receiving visitors in the office and suspended religious gathering and meetings.

“Staff were also encouraged to wash their hands regularly while hand sanitisers are provided in all offices. All the teams were also advised to limit the number of suspects brought into custody.

“The leadership has taken the extra step of guaranteeing the safety of staff by mandating every staff returning from leave to come with the result of a COVID-19 test taken a few days to their return. Those who fail to take the test are mandated to have theirs taken in the Commission’s health facility before fully resuming duties.

“COVID-19 is a global health challenge and all institutions including the EFCC are committed to helping their staff prevent getting infected. However, where staff come down with the virus, adequate care is available,” he said in an email.

He did not say whether suspects in EFCC’s custody are being handled in line with the government’s COVID-19 prevention protocols.

However, our sources said holding cells at the zonal headquarters in Ikoyi are congested with suspects. They said that although the commission issues a detailed COVID-19 prevention protocol at the outbreak of the disease in 2020, the Lagos zonal office only adhered to it for two weeks before the went back to the usual ways of doing things with little or zero regard for the protocols.

“It is only in Abuja that the protocols are still being adhered to. In fact, when one person tested positive to the virus in Abuja, his entire department was shut down and the person directed to embark on self-isolation for two weeks. But in most of the zones, it is business as usual. In Lagos, after two weeks were allowed to arrest and bring in as many suspects as we want, in clear violation of the guidelines issued by the leadership of the commission,” the source said .

“See, what is happening here is that the leadership in Lagos is doing everything possible to beat the over 200 conviction it scored last year. But they are putting the lives of staff members at risk in the process,” the source added.

Buhari goes tough on violators of COVID -19 protocols
The disregard for the federal government’s COVID-19 prevention protocol at the EFCC office in Lagos comes at a time the government is tightening its enforcement of the guidelines. On Thursday President Muhammadu Buhari signed Coronavirus (COVID-19) Health Protection Regulations 2021. According to the regulation, persons who flout rules of social distancing and other prevention measures could face up to six months in jail.

InvestmentFisayo Fosudo: Nigerian Tech Apps That Helped Me Make Money In 2020 by AnonPoet(op): 6:16pm On Jan 24, 2021
I decided to try out an experiment in January of 2020 and this video is the outcome. I put aside extra money in a couple of Nigerian Fin-tech apps and in this video, I cover 5 apps that I regularly use to save, invest and make money in the Nigerian fin-tech space. From the experiment at the beginning of 2020, I was able to save an extra $10,000. I share all of that and more in this video.

How I made over $10,000 with these Nigerian Tech Apps

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfNxQSNnJuE

Apps Discussed:

1. QUIDAX (Cryptocurrency):

The first app I talked about is called Quidax, It's an app I used to buy & sell crypto. and it's been quite swift as well when it comes to transactions. I've received payments in form of BTC a lot just 'cos it saves time On Quidax, you can trade (buy/sell) quite a number of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. Ethereum, XRP, Dash, and Litecoin.
I also loved the fact that I got an email authentication for every single withdrawal, might take a second but it's basically more secure. They've got an exhaustive FAQ page you can check out if you have any questions (FAQ: https://quidax.com/faq)

2. BARTER (Virtual US Cards):

Barter was one of my favourite apps of the bunch. They give you a virtual US Debit card, complete with a USA Address, tied to your name. I use Barter to pay for online subscription services that don't allow our Nigerian cards. I use it for my Adobe, Apple subscription, and more stuff. Keep in mind that it costs $2 to create a new card and $4 to create a gift card.

3. PIGGYVEST (High-interest Savings):

PiggyVest needs almost no introduction at this point. When I asked about apps that worked for people financially in Nigeria on social media, this was recommended a lot. PiggyVest is an app I "highly" recommend for people who are serious about their finances and saving. The Safelock feature on PiggyVest helps you lock funds for a long period of time allowing you to stay true to a financial goal. You can keep adding to it and it can actually accumulate to a substantial sum. Not only are you saving but, you're also earning a decent amount in interest, depending on how much you save.
It's one of the apps I use on an almost daily basis.

4. BAMBOO (Invest in US. Stocks from Nigeria)

One of the apps I really like using is the Bamboo app. It's a straightforward app, you can simply buy/sell shares of your favourite US company listed on the stock market, right here in Nigeria. The Bamboo app also has a large library and glossary if you want to read up and learn the basics or learn the ropes of buying your first stock, investing and everything in between. Another app you can use to Invest in US stocks (even Nigerian stocks as well) is Trove I love how the app displays categories, everything is easy to reach and they have a vast amount of assets as well (now including Cryptocurrency)

5. RUBIES (100% Digital Bank)

As the description reads, Rubies is a full-on online bank. You can do the everyday transactions you would normally do on your banking app and even more. You can request a card, creating a savings plan and become an independent banker. I like that the transfer fees are just 10 Naira regardless, I also like that your phone number can also be your Rubies account number. All in all, it's a well-rounded app that I use and would recommend.

Which of these apps do you use or have you just discovered? Also, which have you used and would recommend other people try? Comment below

PoliticsJubril Martins-Kuye Was A Highly Observant Leader Of Leaders - Segun Showunmi by AnonPoet(op): 9:13pm On Jan 17, 2021
Men like Kuye are rare. Very intelligent, highly read, easy to talk to, firm at the negotiating table, deep connect across the spectrum of the social class.

He had a way of making everyone feel special. Incredible soul who could quote Shakespeare within an extempore speech, highly observant, a leader of leaders. Ogun, nay Nigeria, lost an inspirational leader.

It hits you when you look around, especially in Ogun, to try to find leaders that can be held up as role models in the political class. You are bound to feel some sadness, not because immortality has been promised anyone, old or young, but because you get a sense of irreplaceability that leaders like Sen Jubril Martins-Kuye are indeed hard to find in the present time.

May his soul rest in peace. May his family and loved ones be comforted. For everything, there is a season. Fare thee well, JMK.

Car TalkPAN Nigeria Demand Reversal Of Tariff Review On Imported Vehicles by AnonPoet(op): 3:25pm On Jan 13, 2021
PAN Nigeria Limited has decried the approval of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), for a downward review of tariff on importation of vehicles into the country.

Chairman of PAN, Mr Ahmed Wadada-Aliyu criticised the approval told journalists on Tuesday in Abuja that the downward review would be detrimental to the long-term competitiveness of the automotive industry in the country.

He said that it could eventually lead to total collapse of the Nigeria automotive industry thereby, placing other African countries as the new hub of automotive activities within the ECOWAS sub-region.

He said the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed was communicated the wrong statistics about the automotive industry which led to the tariff review.

“When the National Automotive Manufacturers Association (NAMA) discovered that a tariff had been inserted in the 2020 Finance Bill, the vice president called a meeting in which NAMA was in attendance.

‘’It was agreed at the meeting that NAMA should put up a comprehensive presentation on the needs of the automotive manufacturers with regard to capacity for effective performance.

We are however, shocked to learn that the 2020 finance bill has been approved’’, the PAN chairman said.

According to him, the reasons given by the Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (retired) for the tariff review are not satisfactory to warrant a reduction.

“The reasons he gave are; inadequate capacity of local automotive assemblers to meet demand of consumers, diversion of vehicles to other countries instead of the Nigerian market and high transport cost,’’ he said.

The PAN chairman accused the comptroller general of bowing to the pressure of ‘other stakeholders’.

‘’We strongly believe that the comptroller general succumbed to the lobby of tokunboh dealers who are glorified car dealers with no matching investment in local vehicles assemblers.

“And without linkages and value chain components that can precipitate long term industrial growth of the Nigeria economy,’’ Wadada-Aliyu said.

He warned that the reduction in tariff would increase tokunboh importers flooding the country with all manner of old and obsolete vehicles.

He also said that there would be imminent closure of the 54 assembling plants in Nigeria and their eventual shutdown.

He appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to as a matter of urgency, reverse the review.

Foreign AffairsJoe Biden Is Certified As The 46th President Of The United States by AnonPoet(op): 9:54am On Jan 07, 2021
After a mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol, forcing lawmakers to evacuate and disrupting the proceedings, Congress rejected Republican challenges to Mr. Biden’s Electoral College victory.

Congress confirmed President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s victory early Thursday morning, hours after a mob of loyalists urged on by President Trump stormed and occupied the Capitol, disrupting the final electoral count in a shocking display of violence that shook the core of American democracy.

There was no parallel in modern American history, with insurgents acting in the president’s name vandalizing Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office, smashing windows, looting art and briefly taking control of the Senate chamber, where they took turns posing for photographs with fists up on the dais where Vice President Mike Pence had just been presiding.

By the time the Senate reconvened late on Wednesday evening, hours after lawmakers had been evacuated from a Capitol overrun by rebels carrying pro-Trump paraphernalia, one of the nation’s most polarizing moments had yielded an unexpected window of solidarity. Republicans and Democrats locked arms to denounce the violence and express their determination to carry out what they called a constitutionally sacrosanct function.

“To those who wreaked havoc in our Capitol today, you did not win,” Mr. Pence said in a sharp break from Mr. Trump, who had praised the mob. “Violence never wins. Freedom wins. And this is still the people’s house.”

Senator Mitch McConnell, Republican of Kentucky and the majority leader, said the “failed insurrection” had only clarified Congress’s purpose.

“They tried to disrupt our democracy,” he said. “They failed.”

The upheaval unfolded on a day when Democrats secured a stunning pair of victories in runoff elections in Georgia, winning effective control of the Senate and the complete levers of power in Washington. And it arrived as Congress met for what would normally have been a perfunctory and ceremonial session to declare Mr. Biden’s election.

The siege was the climax of a weekslong campaign by Mr. Trump, filled with baseless claims of fraud and outright lies, to try to overturn a democratically decided election that he lost.

“We gather due to a selfish man’s injured pride, and the outrage of supporters who he has deliberately misinformed for the past two months and stirred to action this very morning,” Senator Mitt Romney, Republican of Utah and the 2012 presidential nominee, said after the chamber reconvened. “What happened here today was an insurrection incited by the president of the United States.”

Wednesday evening, Mr. Biden, seeking to tamp down the anarchy that Mr. Trump stoked with angry language just hours earlier, Mr. Biden urged rioters to abandon what amounted to an armed occupation of the House and Senate. The president-elect denounced Mr. Trump’s refusal to graciously accept defeat, and suggested that the president was to blame for the violence.

“At their best, the words of a president can inspire,” Mr. Biden said. “At their worst, they can incite.”

Far from discouraging confrontation, Mr. Trump had encouraged his supporters earlier Wednesday to confront Republican lawmakers going against him to side with the Constitution.

PoliticsUshering In 2021 With Renewed Hope - Segun Showunmi by AnonPoet(op): 8:45pm On Dec 31, 2020
The year 2020 was exasperating to say the mildest. Humanity was tried, and we have the scars to show for it in the memories of loved ones lost to COVID-19, on a global scale, and terrorism, kidnapping, banditry, on the national front.

The economic impact of the huge challenges on our people was real, and the capacity of government to manage things was truly tested.

We carried ourselves reasonably well, given the odds, and though there were gloomy predictions of how things could have been, thankfully, they were not. Our national mortality level, owing to COVID-19, is one of the lowest - indeed we must have done something right, and we have all our frontline workers to be thankful to for their labour of love and sacrifice.

Despite the frequency of incidence which is painfully regretted, we must thank our officers and men of the armed forces for showing up at every flashpoint, confronting criminal elements who seemed determined to test our resolve as a people. We will indeed not be broken for there is something about the irrepressible Nigerian Spirit. We are grateful to God for it could have been worse.

May 2021 be a magnificent year in all ramifications, and for that to be, we must as a nation collectively and individually press the RESET button. We must act with a determination to make our country work, to do all within our power to think good thoughts about our nation, and to review our individual errors, to correct them, so that the great nation we are meant to be may begin to emerge to the glory of God. Also, that our actions may be pleasing of our heroes past and the respect of all nations.

If there was ever a time to say with sincerity the words of JF Kennedy - “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country” - the time is now for Nigeria.

I will attempt to set an agenda for us as a nation that greatness may not elude us.

1. We need to settle the reccurring issues of our federalism. It is time to quickly agree the basis of our nationhood. No one but us is holding us back on this front. The advantage far outweighs the concerns for I genuinely don’t see any disadvantage.

2. We need to look at our policing and security architecture. We must refit them to give us what our situation now demands. We have put to the best use that which we inherited; we have come of age and can think up a more effective security structure for ourselves. For instance, will state police not be necessary?

3. We cannot be in a democracy and see how cumbersome our election processes are and not demand an improved electoral act. Particularly, we need an act that goes deeper, especially at better political party regulations, smoother voting process, far more transparent collation and transmission of results, and does not leave room for as many litigations as we presently have. It will engender more participation and better quality of leaders.

4. We must do everything to improve the narrative about our country both within and externally. One sometimes gets the impression that the propagation of negativity is dangerously on the high side mostly as religious altars have not been spared, neither have the tribal diversity of our unique country. We must work very hard with relevant stakeholders to redirect things to give us the courage to build the future.

I will stop at these for I believe the issues of poverty, unemployment and despair will give way once we put our collective wills to work for our great nation.

Happy New Year, Nigeria. May 2021 be a magnificent year for us all.

Politics“Victor Agbaroji Must Go”, OML 26 Workers, Delta Oil Communities Protest by AnonPoet(op): 4:05pm On Dec 25, 2020
Victor Agbaroji’s emergence as Chief Operating Officer of Oil Mining Lease 26 (OML 26) has been anything but admirable, nine months into his torrid reign.

Having succeeded erstwhile COO, Ebenezer Ageh, who sources said “voluntarily resigned” in March 2020, Mr. Agbaroji’s immediate show of disaffection with workers and solidified estrangement from host communities, have swiftly ignited calls for the immediate return of his predecessor.

The Agbaroji-led Asset Management Team of OML 26 — a joint venture between the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), a subsidiary of the NNPC, and the First Hydrocarbon Nigeria Limited (FHN) has been spotlighted in recent months over a variety of controversies.

Smeared by a barrage of both internal and external agitations from aggrieved workers and neglected host communities, the AMT under Mr. Agbaroji has remained undeterred in its widely criticised style of leadership.

Indigenes of Okpaile, Ellu and Ofagbe communities in Isoko North local government area of Delta State on Thursday, ramped up their protest against months of deprivation by the current management of the AMT, when they thronged the Ogini Flow station, paralysing operations of the oil company.

The agitators were joined in solidarity by some aggrieved workers of the oil firm, who leveraged the moment to demand the sacking of their chief operating officer over delayed and constricted benefits.

“The simple truth is that we are tired of Agbaroji,” a contract staff at OML 26, Prince Henry, told LEADERSNG

“Our regular end of the year bonuses were not just delayed, but drastically reduced. Many contract staff are still being paid their old rates, despite the new rates that were agreed upon renewal of their contracts,” Mr. Henry lamented.

A community chieftain from Ellu, who pleaded anonymity for the fear of retribution said the embattled chief operating officer had unilaterally cancelled a handful of projects instituted by his predecessor, which held the promise of bringing succor to the host communities.

“Everyone is tired of him (Agbaroji). Many projects that were set up by Ageh (immediate past COO), which were awaiting execution have been abruptly terminated,” the community chieftain said.

“An alternative road project that was planned by the company at Okpaile community to reduce hazard has been surprisingly cancelled by Agbaroji. A turbine project for oil communities in Isoko North LGA has also been shelved by him. He must go!”

Another community stakeholder who simply identified himself as Indugba, accused Mr. Agbaroji of transferring projects favouring community interest to his cronies.

“You can see that both workers and community members want Agbaroji to be immediately replaced for peace to reign,” he added. “We want Ebenezer Ageh back!”

All efforts to reach Mr. Agbaroji for comments proved futile as his telephone lines rang out when contacted.

Politics42 Days After Inauguration, Oyo EndSARS Panel Yet To Hold Sitting by AnonPoet(op): 3:43pm On Dec 24, 2020
Adebayo Abdul Rahman

On Saturday, October 10, Jimoh Isiaq, a 23-year-old resident of Ogbomosho, Oyo State was watching the protest against police brutality by students of the Ladoke Akintola University and youths of the town when security personnel started shooting live bullets in the air. It was in the wake of the protest against the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

He was hit by a stray bullet and died moments later.

The uproar and controversies that trailed his killing led to the death of at least two other residents, Ganiyu Moshood Alabi and Adeoye Taiwo, as confirmed Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State.

In a bid to ensure Jimoh Isiaq, and every other victim of police brutality tet justice, the governor on November 10, inaugurated an 11-man Judicial Panel of Inquiry to investigate allegations of extrajudicial killings and brutality by against officers of Nigeria Police by the citizens.

The inauguration of the panel followed a directive on October 16 by the Federal Government that mandated all state governors to set up judicial panels of inquiry to entertain petitions on police brutality, extortion and other related issues by members of the public.

The panel, the government said must recommend actions against proven cases of police brutality and human rights violation.

Endless Wait For Panel To Commence Sitting
Forty-two days after the inauguration of the panel in the state, it has never held a sitting or communicated to the public.

While speaking at the inauguration of the panel, Governor Makinde revealed that the state government had through various platforms set up to collate cases of rights infringements received close to 50 complaints of alleged police brutality and human rights violations.

One of these platforms is a page on the official website of the state government. The page, as of Monday, December 20, morning, had been deleted.

Speaking on the role of the panel during the inauguration, the governor stated that aside investigating the brutal murder of Jimoh Isiaq and others killed in Ogbomosho, the panel would bring to book residents responsible for gruesome murder and roasting of police officers at Iwo road, Ibadan during in the aftermath of the EndSARS protest.

But while the victims of police brutality continue to wait for the panel to commence hearing their petitions, Nigerians are already expressing frustration about the inability of the panel to sit and lack of communication from the state government.

Adetola Kehinde, an Oyo State indigene took to social media to question the delay in the commencement of sitting by the panel.

“Nobody is talking about seeking for justice for the victims of #PoliceBrutality in Oyo State. The judicial panel of inquiry set up by Seyi Makinde hasn’t sat for one since it’s inauguration. Or the #EndSARS protest is meant for selected states?” Kehinde wrote on Twitter.

Another social media user, Bolu Adeosun also questioned why residents are not demanding justice by ensuring the panel gets to work.

“I honestly have a question. When will @seyiamakinde ask the panel in his state to start? Why are we not demanding for justice also? Or Does Jimoh Isaq not deserve Justice?” she wrote.

Several attempts to reach the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Taiwo Adisa for details about the failure of the panel to commence public hearing 42 days after the inauguration were not successful as he did not pick multiple calls to his mobile phone and failed to reply WhatsApp and text messages.

10 PERSONS ARRESTED FOR ATTACKING LAGOS TASKFORCE OFFICERS, AS GOVT IMPOUNDS 96 COMMERCIAL MOTORCYCLES

... Four Private Cars Confiscated for Driving Against Traffic

@jidesanwoolu

Ten persons have been arrested for attacking the men of Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Enforcement Agency (Taskforce) during an enforcement of the State’s traffic laws on Tuesday.

The suspects were picked up in the commotion that broke out in Ojodu and Obanikoro during the enforcement carried out by the Taskforce in several areas in Lagos.

No fewer than 96 commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, operating on highways and in other restricted routes in the metropolis, were impounded in the Tuesday operation.

Also, four motorists driving against the traffic were arrested by the Anti-One Way team of the Taskforce.

It was gathered that some hoodlums teamed up with Okada riders around Ojodu Grammar School to resist the move by the Taskforce to take away motorcycles seized during the enforcement.

As the hoodlums, armed with iron rods and broken bottles, approached the Taskforce operatives, the policemen, led by the Taskforce chairman, Shola Jejeloye, a Superintendent of Police (SP), repelled the attack, and dispersed the mobsters and residents scampered for safety, as the Taskforce operatives chased the hoodlums. Five suspects were arrested.

There was tension in the area for several minutes, before normalcy returned. The Taskforce officers remained in the area for hours in a bid to ensure there was no reprisal on residents.

Also at Obanikoro, Okada riders, on sighting the enforcement team, pelted the Taskforce officers with stones. The policemen arrested four persons who took part in the attack. One person was arrested in Ojota.

Jejeloye said the Taskforce would not relent in its activities to restore sanity back on the roads.

He warned commercial motorcycles illegally operating on restricted routes to stop defying the Government’s restriction order, advising them to limit their activities to roads they are permitted to operate.

He said: “We are not surprised about the attack on us by some hoodlums in Obanikoro and Ojodu for carrying out the mandate given to this team by the Lagos State Government.

But, this will never deter us from extending the enforcement to other areas of the States where notorious road users and Okada riders have constituted nuisance.

“We are not after the commercial motorcycles operating in areas where their activities are permitted; we are after those breaking the restriction order and motorists who flout the State’s traffic laws.

This is not the first time our men would be attacked, but we will not relent in carrying out the enforcement.

Ten of those who attacked us were arrested and they will be duly charged.

”The Taskforce chairman maintained that the agency team would work round the clock during Yuletide to carry out the enforcement, warning offenders to desist from flouting the State’s traffic laws.

PoliticsBuhari At 78: Birthday Message To The President From Segun Showunmi by AnonPoet(op): 2:07pm On Dec 17, 2020
Segun Showunmi

Happy Birthday Mr. President.

As I reflected on what to write,
my heart became enveloped by empathy towards you, and all anger dissolved for I am reminded of how difficult the times are, and the challenges we face as a nation, especially you our President at this time.

I want to, on your behalf, thank Almighty Allah. Indeed, we cannot despise any of Allah’s favours, especially given how he has kept you alive and put you in charge of Africa’s most populous country.

Mr President, I give you credit for the effort at infrastructural development in the country, the ongoing rail modernisation projects, the second Niger bridge, the Mambila hydroelectric project, and the Siemens power project to mention a few.

I commend you for this, for I am not unmindful of how difficult it is to get anything done in our country because of the attitude of our people towards corrupt personal enrichment. One who does not recognise effort can not see faults. To pretend to see challenges is to run the risk of coming across as hateful, insincere and naive. May the projects all come together for the benefit of our people.

Mr President, please note that you are not doing as well as I would have liked with communicating and connecting with our people. I want you to work on this for a misunderstood leader can cause grave consequences, especially in a multi-ethnic country like ours with attendant implications on national cohesion, peace, forbearance and stability, all of which are needed when the global outlook is dire.

Mr President, it is time to plan succession, and by this, I do not mean power transfer within your party. I mean looking at the country and determining who and those that must take the reign for the work to be done is serious. Nigeria can not sustain its future on the supposed generosity of other countries in the West, China or the Arab world.

We must become reasonably self-sufficient people. To do this, we need far more honest leaders whose hearts beat for our country and its progress. I dare say it will be most unfortunate to narrow your searchlight only to those around you. Look broader, farther and more deliberately. National Unity and Cohesion are critical, for we must have a country at peace with itself for us to have meaningful development.

I am a little worried about your legacy. Often, I find that deep in my heart, I get a sense that those around are not as mindful of their actions as they ought to be. Given the huge sacrifice I suspect you are making, it is way too difficult to find a positive narrative about our country these days that one is bound to ask: is the president not bothered about how things are?

On the anti-terrorism war, dear President, our military can do with new inspiration, which can only come from the top. I do not pretend to know why you are unwilling to get new hands in charge of our Armed Forces, but you may need to consider this: are any of our officers indispensable to the extent that no one within the system can do their jobs? You are the Commander in Chief; do think about this.

Mr President, it is time for you to expand the dragnet of where you get inspiration by reaching out to other critical stakeholders in the country, especially Atiku Abubakar. For whatever it is worth, he contested the last election with you. I believe the greater good of the country will be served if you both work together to get our country out of the financial mess we are in.

Sometimes, ideological differences need not be elevated to enmity within brothers.
It is time to look at your cabinet and rejig it to energise your process towards a wrap-up and a passing of the baton.

Happy Birthday once again. May God bless Nigeria.

PoliticsBoko Haram: Tinubu Visits Zulum, Wants Military To Change Strategy by AnonPoet(op): 5:41pm On Dec 15, 2020
... Says Zulum combines talent and character

The national leader of APC and former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited Governor Babagana Umara Zulum in Maiduguri on Monday, with call on the Nigerian military to change their strategy.

“We have been on this (boko haram) for sometime, We have seen the reaction of the federal government, we have seen the reaction of the armed forces, this is no longer a conventional warfare, this is more tactical, more reason, more crude. In such situation what we do is to replan our strategy. We have seen the Governor’s life has been attacked more than one occasion in effort to eliminate him but Allah is mighty, he has protected and will continue to protect you”Tinubu said.

Tinubu, who was on sympathy visit to the Governor over the killing of farmers by Boko Haram insurgents, added that under insurgency governance would hardly excel.

"You can't concentrate, become innovative and excel if you have to make educational development in fear. We saw people who have endured so much agony, denial, brutality decided to run to their farms to develop means of livelihood not only for themselves but for all of us, at the end they were slaughtered. That's not religion, it is not in our religion (Islam), it is not in Christianity either, it is an act of wickedness. I want His Excellency and members of the state executive to see this visit not as a condolence only, not a sympathy only, but as a solidarity and commitment that we must defeat all evil doers” Tinubu also said.

... Zulum combines talent and character

The APC leader commended Governor Zulum’s commitment to the security of the lives of the citizens.

“Professor Zulum... is a man of courage, brilliance, talented plus great character. Is a different thing for one to be talented, and another to have character. Zulum is a man who is talented combined with great character and courageously take the responsibility of governance without looking back. Confront evil, most unfortunate aspects of it is the fact that this is our country. I respect the Governor, he has so much courage and strong determination, he has been consistent, his voice is loud, he is the man, he is peace, stability and safety of lives and properties of not only people of Borno but the entire country."

The APC leader advised that to deny evil doers from recruitment of vulnerable youth, government must come up with social protection measures that will take them off the streets.

"We have to remove these unemployed youth from the streets, from been available for evil doers for recruitment. Dont tell me they are illiterates, anybody that can operate Keke Napep and do little repairs, anybody that can hold guns, dismantle guns and service it is no more an illiterate”.

Governor Zulum, in his response, appreciated what he indicated was to him, a special visit by the national leader of the APC.

Zulum reiterated the commitment of his administration to doing whatever it can, towards protecting the lives and property of Borno people.
