PhonesTop 3 Smartphone Brands Making Waves In 2019 by AnonPoet(op): 11:12pm On Sep 10, 2019
1. OPPO Mobile
In just short seven months since its entry in the Nigerian mobile market, OPPO has generated plenty of excitement in the marketplace. The brand’s tremendous success with its flagship device, the OPPO F11Pro, has catapulted it to being one of the leading smartphone brands available. The OPPO F11Pro has been summarily described as the pocket-sized professional camera. From the beautiful and well thought out aesthetics of the F11 Pro to its very big battery, its seamless use made possible by the hyper boost and its ability to enable you to multitask easily, the F11Pro provides way more to the Nigerian smartphone user than any other phone in the market. The best feature yet of the F11Pro is its amazing camera.
Combining a 48+5MP dual rear camera setup, large image sensor, large aperture and AI image processing, the F11Pro makes capturing photos with professional results absolutely easy.

OPPO mobile, being a brand for young people has immersed itself in partnering and sponsoring youth-centric activities. OPPO mobile was a regional sponsor for the just concluded African Cup of Nations, 2019. During the CAF season, not only did OPPO mobile tirelessly support the Super Eagles, they also made sure that it was an amazing time for the fans as well. Fans were treated to wonderful viewing times with OPPO brand influencers and other OPPO mobile officials at luxurious places within Lagos.

Staying true to their love for all things youthful, OPPO mobile is also one of the sponsors for the ongoing Big Brother Naija “Pepper Dem” Season 4 edition. They have presently gifted the winners of their task N2 million in gifts and cash, they have also given every evicted housemate an OPPO F11Pro. The fans of the show have also been carried along as OPPO has given out awesome prizes in numerous giveaway promos on their social media platforms.

Globally, OPPO has also climbed up a step in the world smartphone ranking to become the 4th largest smartphone company in the world.

We dare say that 2019 has definitely been the OPPO year!

2. Huawei
Huawei has been in the Nigerian smartphone market for about 5 years now. Entering with entry-level phones, feature phones, QWERTY phones, and Android smartphones, they have had quite a long-standing presence in Nigeria. Huawei’s major selling point was that they produced smartphones considered to be cheap and hence affordable to the general public. They, however, were not generally considered to be an innovative brand until this year.

The brand perception of Huawei received a tremendous boost with the introduction of the Y-series. Chinese smartphone maker, Huawei expanded its Y series with the introduction of the Huawei Y6 Pro, Huawei Y7 and Huawei Y9. The new Y series smartphones come with AI camera, dewdrop displays and larger battery capacity. With optimal pricing and good products, Huawei has been able to finally take a huge chunk of the share of voice in the Nigerian smartphone industry with these devices.

Taking a clue from the OPPO playbook, the Huawei Y9 also has a rising and retractable front camera, which they prefer to call the “pop-up camera”. The rising camera feature was first seen in the OPPO F11Pro which was introduced into the market months before. Following the success of the OPPO F11Pro, it is safe to say that Huawei may have gotten the right idea from OPPO.

Huawei had also been in the global news for the tussle and loss of access to google products which includes Gmail, the google play store and a host of others. This hasn’t affected the Chinese smartphone makers, as they still maintain their position in the world ranking.

3. Nokia
The number 3 slot is truly a battle for me, as the Nigerian smartphone industry has been churning out great products, each trying to outdo competitors and even their own previous products.

In 2007, Nokia held 50% market share in mobile phone handsets. By 2013, Nokia's handset market share decreased to less than 5%. At that time, the company also faced the near-certain likelihood of bankruptcy. The Nokia story has had a turbulent time, and the Nigerian smartphone industry has borne witness to it. However, the tide seems to be taking a turn for the better.

With the introduction of Andriod operated Nokia smartphones, Nokia has been able to successfully rebrand and re-invent itself.
The Nokia 9 PureView is Nokia's most recent flagship phone, and it comes with cutting-edge features to match. In particular, it comes with one important feature (or five depending on how you count it) in the form of its five-sensor rear camera, which is the most we've seen in a smartphone.

Although we cannot categorically call the new Nokia Android phones powerful smartphones even with the five-sensor rear camera, and it might not be able to adequately compete with other smartphones with lesser rear camera sensors, the pricing of the new Nokia smartphones gives these smartphones an edge in the Nigerian smartphone market.

PhonesOppo A1k Full Unboxing And Review (pictures) by AnonPoet(op): 12:00pm On Aug 21, 2019
This Phone is Simple, Sleek Yet Affordable

About two weeks ago, global smartphone brand, OPPO Mobile introduced two new phone models (A1k and A5s) into the Nigerian market with an aim to cater to a segment of Nigerian users that are trendy and practical.

The Technext team has had an early interaction with one of the models, the A1k device, and here is what we think:

The OPPO A1K mobile screen has a 6.1-inch LCD waterdrop (15.49 cm) screen display size with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1560×720 pixels. Compare to the total phone size, that screen size amounts to 87.43% screen-to-body ratio.

This implies that a significant portion (9/10) of the front space has been dedicated to your viewing pleasure and use.

The OPPO A1k comes in two options: Black and Red (we have the red). The back of the phone is a metallic texture design and the phone comes with a transparent pouch that allows you and your friends to savour the beauty even as it is protected.

It runs on Android v9.0 (Pie) operating system coupled with Oppo’s intuitive operation system, the ColorOS 6.0. The graphics look sleek and the navigation, in our experience, was smooth. This points to the power of the processor.

We learned that the device is powered by an Octa-core with 2 GHz as well as a Cortex A53 processor. And, it has a Smart Assistant function that allows you access the important information in the form of a card on the home screen. And, it is quite a machine. It comes with a 2GB RAM and 32GB ROM with the option to expand the memory Up to 256GB (memory card).

It comes with an unremovable battery of 4000 mAh. We learned that this capacity can allow an active use length of up to 17 hours. We were on active review for over 5 hours and the battery actually proved its worth! The only possible con here is that you cannot remove the A1k battery.

The front camera is 5 mega-pixels with an F2.0 aperture capacity. This means that it gets a detailed capture at close range, allows for a blurry background and good for a low light capture as well.

The rear camera is 8 mega-pixels. It has a CMOS image sensor that can support a 3264 x 2448 resolution.

Our Verdict:

Overall, at N44,900, we think the Oppo A1k is a great buy if you want a good phone without breaking the bank.

Two Oyo State Monarchs claim to help Politicians win elections with Juju

High Chief Arogundade Sunday Alade and Chief Sumonu Aromodede of Ogbomosho Land, Oyo State made serious allegation against politicians and public office holders who consulted them for spiritual charms to enable them win electoral positions and juicy public offices but never returned to make good their promises after securing their positions.
Our correspondent also gathered that these high chiefs have strong affiliates with politicians in South-west, South-East, North East and North Central parts of Nigeria and they work hand in hand to perpetrate evil in a bid to gain power to amass wealth unlawfully.

Chief Arogundade Sunday Alade made a claim against a Politian (name withheld) who currently holds a political office at the national level that he is being owed a fee being amount payable for charms and thugs supplied during the just concluded election.

He claimed that charms used were made from blood and parts of dead human beings and he is very sure of the potency of his charms.

He reiterated that this isn’t the only situation where he would assist to gain access to holding public offices, win contracts and also to attain promotion but after gaining power, same people will deny association with traditional belief and powers that brought them favour.

He mentioned that traditional beliefs and practices of African people include various ethnic religions.

These traditions are oral rather than scriptural. This includes belief in a supreme creator, belief in spirits, veneration of the dead, use of magic and traditional African medicine. The role of humanity is generally seen as one of harmonizing nature with the supernatural.

He quoted that according to Lugira, "it is the only religion that can claim to have originated in Africa.

Other religions found in Africa have their origins in other parts of the world."

Followers of traditional African religions pray to various spirits as well as to their ancestors. These secondary spirits serve as intermediaries between humans and the primary God, also referred to as the Supreme Deity.

Most African societies believe in a single Supreme being (Chukwu, Nyame, Olodumare, Ngai, Roog, etc. Some recognize a dual God and Goddess such as Mawu-Lis.

In Nigeria the majority of the populations are adherents of Christianity or Islam, Nigerian people often combine the practice of their traditional belief with the practice of Abrahamic religions.

The two Abrahamic religions are widespread across Africa, though mostly concentrated in different areas.

They have replaced indigenous African religions, but are often adapted to African cultural contexts and belief systems. High Chief Arogundade Sunday Alade and Chief Sumonu Aromodede of Ogbomosho Land, Oyo State, Nigeria are of the opinion that traditionalism should be passed to the oncoming generation.

Chief Alade in his words 'I have seen many people in Christian and Muslim faiths, seeking protection and help from these idols and hereafter deny their association and involvement after accomplishing their mission. Many politicians have visited us and we have assisted them to occupy their desired seats.

Chief Arogundade S. alade & Chief Sumonu Aromodede recommend that active practice of African religious will assist in curbing the present high rate of corruption in the nation by making public office holders swear with these gods who will give immediate punishment to offenders.

It was gathered that while Chief Aromodede initiate his wards and relations to the practice of idols and occultism at early stage of their lives because it is a taboo for any member of their family not to practice occultism. It was also gathered that Chief Arogundade Alade forcefully initiates members of his family with a view to appease the gods.
They claim that association with tradition averts premature death and enables one to succeed in his/her life endeavors.

…Allocates N252 million for re-accreditation of IMT courses

…Okays 12 courts for enforcement of Child Rights Law

The administration of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has approved and directed the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB) to recruit additional 1,500 primary school teachers to enhance basic education in the state.

The administration also approved the sum of N252,456,917.67 (two hundred and fifty two million, four hundred and fifty six thousand, nine hundred and seventeen naira, sixty seven kobo) for the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) to pursue the re-accreditation of the institution’s courses whose prior accreditation had expired.

Briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council’s meeting, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Uche Eze, disclosed that the basic requirement for the recruitment is National Certificate of Education (NCE), adding that the candidates must have teaching background and would accept to reside and teach in the rural communities. He stressed that Gov. Ugwuanyi, through his grassroots development initiatives, has provided in the rural areas, some amenities that attract people to urban centres.

It would be recalled that Gov. Ugwuanyi’s administration had recruited over 4000 teachers since its inception, to create jobs and improve the standard of learning in the state.

According to Prof. Eze, “His Excellency is committed and determined to ensure that teachers continue to be available at the basic education level so that our children will benefit from the investment that the state government is making in the education sector”.

He explained that “a good number of our teachers at the primary school level have retired and some lost to death”, noting the recruitment exercise was to fill the vacuum created to ensure availability of teachers at the classrooms for effective teaching and learning.

Consequently, the education commissioner further disclosed that “the council directed ENSUBEB to make arrangement for the recruitment of additional one thousand five hundred teachers to ensure that those who are qualified are appropriately placed so that our children will continue to benefit”.

On IMT, Prof. Eze stated that the fund was approved sequel to a presentation by the Governing Council and management of the institution, which informed the EXCO of the need for the re-accreditation of the courses on the premise that “when a course is accredited, after five years, that course needed re-accreditation”.

He maintained the approval was in line with Gov. Ugwuanyi’s interest in ensuring that IMT is repositioned.

His words: “You will recall that since the inception of this administration, His Excellency has invested so much in IMT because he believes that IMT is the prime institution in this state and that he has to do whatever it takes to make sure that he brings IMT back to its former glory.

“You will also recall that last year about N1 billion was invested in infrastructural development. He also released funds earlier for the accreditation but because accreditation is a continuous process, as the programmes expire, a re-accreditation is expected. This is why, His Excellency, at the State Executive Council’s meeting, saw it as very important to ensure that courses are re-accredited in IMT”.

In her briefing, the Commissioner for Gender Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Princess Peace Nnaji, stated that the state government approved the establishment of 12 courts (lower and high courts) to deal with issues that concern the implementation of the Child Rights Law.

Princess Nnaji added that the council also approved the appointment and inauguration of formidable men of integrity in Enugu State as members of a committee that will drive cases that are related to adoption and fostering in Enugu State, in the newly approved courts.

She further revealed that the present administration, through the Committee on Adoption and Fostering headed by Archbishop Emmanuel Chukwuma, has recorded tremendous achievements in curtailing the excesses of child trafficking, illegal adoption and baby factory, saying: “Before the Governor of Enugu State came into office as governor, issue of child/baby factory was everywhere in the state”.

The gender affairs commissioner said the governor through the council has equally approved that “we will have meeting with all the hospitals in Enugu State to make sure that they key into what we are doing”, under the corporate social responsibility act.

She pointed out that the adoption committee through the instrument of the government was “able to stop the nefarious activities that were going-on at the New Artisan Market, Enugu where children are being trafficked, sold and engaged in prostitution”, stating that her ministry is working with the Ministry of Education to organize seminars and workshops to talk to teenage girls in secondary schools against lesbianism, prostitution, pornography, etc.

PoliticsAkpabio Plans To Inflitrate INEC With Fake Electoral Materials - Breaking Post by AnonPoet(op): 7:14am On Apr 16, 2019

PLANS BY AKPABIO TO INFILTRATE @INECNigeria OFFICES WITH FAKE ELECTORAL MATERIALS EXPOSED
As the APC embarks on what is definitely going to be a futile attempt to challenge the massive victory Governor Udom Emmanuel was given by the people of Akwa Ibom State at the forth-coming election tribunal, we have uncovered an evil plot by Senator Akpabio and the APC to replace authentic electoral materials with fake ones in their desperate efforts to subvert the will of the people which they had expressed in the PDP and its candidates at the recently concluded elections

According to exclusive details made available by a source close to the APC and Senator Akpabio, the APC, knowing that it was roundly defeated by the PDP in the recently concluded elections in Akwa Ibom State have concluded plans to infiltrate both the INEC Headquarters in Uyo and in the local government areas with fake materials during the inspection of the material process which the parties are all legally permitted to undertake.

“Akpabio and the APC have been boasting that they have accomplices within the INEC offices that will help them replace the authentic election materials with fake ones. These accomplices have been compromised and they have assured Akpabio and the APC that their wish will be granted. As we speak, busloads of fake materials are being transported from Calabar and elsewhere and they are headed to Uyo. The plan is to begin the removal of the authentic materials tonight (April 15) and continue the process throughout this week. The compromised APC accomplices are on standby and are ready to execute this evil plot. Akpabio and the APC believe this will be their last ditch effort to subvert the will of the people that was massively expressed in Governor Udom Emmanuel and all the PDP candidates for various offices who were elected during the recently concluded elections.”” The source had revealed.

We call on the security agencies and the INEC official to be on the look-out for the people within INEC who may have been compromised by the APC to carry out this evil plot. Akpabio and the APC must be told that the good people of Akwa Ibom State had made their choices and those choices must be respected. No amount of their desperation will change what had been done. Nigerians and the security agencies are again being put on alert.

A twitter user by the handle @miriamshehu has taken to the platform to expose the carefree, randy and lavish lifestyle of one of the sons of the NDDC boss by name Christopher Brambaifa.

The twitter user in a series of tweets stated that while President Buhari was selling poverty as a virtue, the son of the NDDC boss was living lavida loca, buying luxury cars and toys and living in expensive hotels paid by the NDDC’s purse after his father’s appointment.

The twitter user who sourced a childhood friend added that Christopher was actually the Defacto MD of NDDC. Christopher moves about with a police convoy, soldiers and occasionally with DSS agents.

Christopher has invested heavily in real estate barely 2 months after his father’s appointment. He has acquired several properties in elite areas in Port Harcourt and has even moved into one of his acquisitions.

Christopher Brambaifa funds his new lifestyle by demanding and collecting money in millions of dollars brazenly from NDDC contractors who have pending payments.

Christopher Brambaifa brazenly collects money in millions of Dollars from contractors who have pending payment. The Twitter user also stated that Christopher’s sheer naivety leads him into the folly of using his personal accounts and that of his numerous mistresses to receive those monies.

Christopher doles out instructions to top directors and security men at the NDDC like he’s the one in charge. He is even more revered than his father, the NDDC MD.

His lifestyle is careless, and he continues to spend tax payers money on unprofitable ventures. Recently, he sponsored over 15 of his relatives and in laws to Dubai including the personal physician of his father and a protocol officer. In addition to that, Chris and his brothers now stay in expensive Hotels at the expense of the commission. One of their favorite Hotels is Golden Tulip Hotel in Portharcourt.

PoliticsGroup Faults Muric’s Position On Appointments Made By Ekitigovernment by AnonPoet(op): 5:16pm On Mar 13, 2019
An Interest group, Integrity Leadership Organisation has carpeted the Director, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), Prof Isaq Akintola, over what it described as his unwarranted criticism of the recent appointments made by Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi.

Prof Akinola had in a statement earlier in the week faulted the Ekiti State government for appointing more Christians than Muslims in various positions in the government.

But the ILO in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Mr Lekan Oyediran and made available to journalists on Wednesday, said Prof Akinola’s criticism was misplaced, stressing that competence and involvement in politics and community development are of greater consideration in appointment than the issue of religion.

The group urged Prof Isaq Akinola not to create religious crisis in Ekiti State through his unguarded outbursts, adding that Ekiti are not known to differentiate between religions as the adherents of all religions in the state see themselves as brothers. This, he said, had accounted for the religious harmony that the state enjoys.

The group said that someone of Prof Akinola’s calibre ought to know that government’s appointments are not based on religion or ethnicity, but on the value that the appointee can add.

The group said: “It is disturbing to hear the MURIC leader, Prof Isaq Akinola make such careless statement, giving the impression that the Ekiti State Governor deliberately side lined Muslims in the appointments made so far.

“This is quite misleading. The fact is that the Fayemi administration had in the last four months appointed both Christians and Muslims into positions, including a former President of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs.

“We know and believe the likes of Prof Akinola should know too that appointments into offices are not based on religious affiliation but on competence and involvement in politics and community development.

“The Muslim population in Ekiti State is about five per cent and the present administration has been fair in its dealings with the Muslim community, especially in the area of appointment.

“There is no golden rule that says Muslims should occupy a particular position in government.

“Ekitis live and work together in harmony and it is unfortunate that the likes of Prof Akintola, through their dubious agenda setting, are trying to create religious crisis by coming up with spurious allegation of marginalisation where it does  not exist.

“We urge Christians and Muslims in the state to shun any group or individual who are out to surreptitiously sow seed of discord.

“It is high time we continued to support an administration that has demonstrated clearly its commitment to the all- round development of the state and its citizens through the promotion of core values and purposeful leadership.” The Group added.

PoliticsEnugu Polls: Apga, Sdp, Pdp Deny Apc Allegation Against Inec by AnonPoet(op): 8:03pm On Mar 07, 2019
...Say it’s false, baseless, mischievous

Three political parties in Enugu State have denied the allegation by the factional chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Mr. Ben Nwoye and Director-General of Senator Ayogu Eze campaign organization, Hon. KGB Oguakwa of an alleged plan by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to hand over electoral materials to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ahead of March 9 governorship and House of Assembly elections.

Reacting to the allegation, which was published in a national daily, the state chairman of the PDP, Hon. Augustine Nnamani stated: “It is shameful and an insult on the people of Enugu State that a party (APC) whose ambition is clearly in disarray and which has not been campaigning in the State could come out to make such outlandish and regrettable allegation”.

The PDP chairman added that “APC leadership had openly boasted that it would use “federal might” to win the gubernatorial elections in Enugu State”, stressing that “it is curious that the same party has now turned round to shamelessly and falsely accuse federal institutions of complicity in a phantom conspiracy with the PDP to deny it victory in the upcoming polls”.

In a related development, the state chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and its Governorship Candidate, Chief Hon. Emma Nwankpa, expressed “utter dismay over the spurious and baseless media report”, stressing that “as one of the major stakeholders who have been deeply committed and involved in all the processes of the elections, APGA Enugu State chapter, wishes to state categorically that the allegation is false, baseless and mischievous”.

According to APGA, “we wish to state that our agents actively participated in the inspection and distribution of all the electoral materials at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Enugu”, and “they duly and formally reported to our party that the exercise was transparent and that no foul play was encountered as mischievously alleged by the APC”.

The party, therefore, advised “the APC and its members not to undermine the peaceful political atmosphere in Enugu State and the genuine efforts by INEC and the security agencies to prosecute transparent, free, fair and credible governorship and state assembly elections on Saturday”.

On its part, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) faulted the allegation by APC, stating that it was a failed attempt by the party to sway sentiments in the face of imminent defeat at the polls.

The party’s chairman, Hon. John Nwobodo, further called on the Nigerian public to ignore the “needless distraction”.

Further reacting, the PDP Chairman said:”Ordinarily, we would have ignored these spurious claims, more so, when credible rebuttals had been made by both INEC and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). However, we feel obliged to make this clarification to keep the records straight and to alert our people to the notoriety which the APC has acquired in spreading lies and unfounded rumours, ostensibly to cover up for their dismal performances in Enugu State during the last presidential and National Assembly elections which were adjudged by INEC-accredited observers as being free, fair, peaceful, credible and transparent.

"For a party whose governorship candidate could not win his booth in the last presidential elections, it smacks of utter mischief that APC could make such claims which, at best, were as defeatist as they were childish".

Hon. Nnamani equally urged “the good people of Enugu State and the general public to discountenance this mischievous antic of a drowning party (APC)”, and enjoined the electorate to come out en masse to exercise their franchise during the elections.

By Timothy Nwosu

Business man Cletus Ibeto of Ibeto Group is a seasoned businessman of international repute who should be a key player in National affairs but this season he has decided to bring himself to an all time low just because of his personal ego and aggrandizement.

Anyone who has been a keen observer of the politics in Nnewi most especially the contest for who occupy the seat of Nnewi at the Anambra State House of Assembly will wonder why Ibeto has decided to mess himself up by trying to install the candidate of YPP, Obinna Ngonadi against the candidate of APGA, Smart Okafor who is the people’s choice.

Voices of reasons and major political stakeholders have approached Ibeto on uncountable times to allow all the candidates contest in a free and fair contest and let Nnewi voters decide who they want to represent them.

According to the words on the street, Ibeto is saying that as the Major political stakeholder in Nnewi, it is he that will decide who will represent Nnewi at all times and this time, he wants Ngonadi Obinna to represent Nnewi whether Nnewi people want him or not.

The truth is that Nnewi people always respect Ibeto choice at all times but this time around, they have decided to disagree with his choice because his candidate of choice is an underperformer, an alleged rapist and chronic womaniser. The candidate Ibeto is trying to stop, Comrade Smart Okafor who is the people’s choice is an over performer and outstanding leader who has shown capacity and quality leadership in all previous positions he has held.

Moreso Ibeto has even pencilled down the name of the person that will represent Uruagu Nnewi, whose turn is after Nnewichi at the Anambra State House of Assembly

Also majority of Nnewi stakeholders and people are no longer happy with Ibeto because he has caused Nnewi to loose outstanding people whose leadership could have brought quality leadership to Nnewi and its people.

For example;
1. Ibeto stopped Dr Obi Nwosu who Fmr President Goodluck Jonathan pencilled down to be appointed the CMD of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, NAUTH Nnewi. It was alleged Ibeto bribed the then Minister of Health to change the President’s choice, Dr Obi Nwosu and replace it with Dr Igwegbe, who is the current CMD of NAUTH Nnewi.

2. Ibeto who is from Otolo Nnewi went to Umudim Nnewi whose its turn were to produce the President General (PG) of Nnewi Town Union and imposed the current under performing PG, Ugochukwu Udemezue as against the popular choice of Nnewi people, Okey Offor.

3. Ibeto once imposed the worst Local Government Chairman in Nnewi by name, Amobi Chikwendu against popular demand, Late Dr Martin Igbokwe.

4. Ibeto at his level in life is still determining who helds the headship of most family kindred in Otolo Nnewi, which is not his business.

Nnewi people are tired of Ibeto impositions and are saying no now to Ibeto as he is using every resources within his power to impose an alleged rapist to represent Nnewi at Anambra State House of Assembly.

Nnewi people wants Ibeto to respect the choice of the people and use his resources to work for the benefits and development of Nnewi and not to be an emperor that will be imposing misfits into any available positions in Nnewi.

Nnewi masses and the downtrodden are saying to Ibeto enough is enough. Be ashamed of yourself.

PoliticsIntimidation Of The Judiciary Capable Of Breeding Anarchy – Obi by AnonPoet(op): 11:30am On Jan 14, 2019
The Vice-Presidential candidate of the PDP, Mr. Peter Obi has decried what he tagged “Intimidation of the Judiciary”, and asking “Where is Due Process?”. Recalling that he was a major beneficiary of the rule of law/due process, he asserted that when that critical essence of democracy is under siege or attacked, the State could be set on the path of perdition.

Peter Obi made the observation yesterday at Shagamu, Ogun State where he represented Alhaji Atiku Abubakar at the Strategy Meeting of the PDP and in reaction to the orchestrated arraignment of the Chief Justice of Nigeria [CJN] on allegations bordering on assets declaration.

Elaborating on his stance, Obi noted that law-abiding citizens of Nigeria, including members of the judiciary, affirm that nobody is above the law, but insist that the process of legal restitution for alleged infractions of the laws of the land must be above board. “In the present case”, Obi said, “confirmed indications reveal that due process was not followed. For instance, what should be done first in such cases is to write formally to the National Judiciary Council [NJC], and that was not done.”

On the overall rating of the Nigerian Judiciary, Obi said: “In my view the Nigerian judiciary remains the best of the three arms of government under the present dispensation. Indeed, it has done tremendously well, and I am a celebrated beneficiary of our judicial system. It was through the Courts that I secured my electoral mandate and also served my full term. It was also due process that reversed my illegal impeachment. Interestingly, a number of other public office holders, including the incumbent chairman of the APC benefited from that courageous precedent set by the Judiciary.

Obi said it was sad that the judiciary had been subjected to unwarranted intimidation by the present administration; with such unwholesome acts as unfounded hounding of members of the Higher Bench, raids on their homes, arrest and arraignment, to the present macabre dance in the name of allegations against and arraignment of the CJN.

More appalling, Obi noted, has been the persistent “lack of decorum” in the attitudes and actions of the present government: “One begins to wonder whether the handlers of the present regime are unmindful of the extant law that requires the NJC to first investigate judicial officers and, if found culpable, recommend disciplinary measures to the legislature before any arraignment if necessary.

“It is also revealing that this scenario is not novel in today's Nigeria. It is the same CJN that was also subjected to all manner of traumatic experience before his emergence as head of the Nigerian Judiciary. From the way and manner we are going, the judicial arm that helps to defend, guide, guard and direct democracy and its institutions is being overawed, intimidated and undermined preparatory to the General Elections. Wherein lies our hope in Nigeria?”

On the way forward, Obi called on Nigerians leaders to shun the temptation of making moves or taken actions that could engender and breed anarchy in the country.
