Celebrities › How Would Disney Princesses Look Like In Real Life? by anonymous6(op): 1:42pm On Oct 26, 2011
"We’ve always loved the Disney princesses in a fairy tale sense, so we’ve never imagined they were real. But one graphic design student at the Arts University College at Bournemouth in the UK had the creative idea to bring Disney characters to life using photo manipulation. Jirka Väätäinen told us, “I've always been interested in the way people look and what makes them unique in their appearances. This was a personal challenge for me to see if I could recreate characters that we all know and love, and try to maintain their unique features. The end results are what I would imagine the characters to look like in ‘real life,’ while still staying somewhat true to the unrealistic quirks in their original character designs.” Väätäinen said his interpretations of eight Disney princesses and one villain were created by combining elements from different photos of women who resemble the characters. He then creates composite images through digital painting and then puts them together using Photoshop. The results are stunning and completely entertaining.

Check out all of Väätäinen’s Disney-inspired art here in this slideshow. We’re hoping he’ll add Snow White, Cinderella, Tiana, Rapunzel, Alice, and Tinker Bell soon. Some of them look very realistic, like our favorite, Princess Jasmine from “Aladdin.” Let us know which you like the best."

Politics › Al-qiada Is Increasing It's Influence And Presence In Africa by anonymous6(op): 1:34pm On Oct 26, 2011
"Despite recent successes such as the killing of Osama bin Laden last May, U.S. counter-terrorism officials are increasingly concerned about al-Qaida affiliates extending their influence in parts of Africa. These groups typically find fertile ground to operate in the unstable, weakly governed spaces of several countries in Africa, including famine-ravaged southern Somalia, NPR's Dina Temple-Ralston reports.

Terrorism specialists have taken particular note of the almost flawless English and light-skinned appearance of a man who appeared on a video distributed to Islamist website last week. The man describes himself as an emissary of bin Laden's successor, Ayman Zawahiri, and he tailors his message to famine-ravaged areas of southern Somalia, which are under the control of the al-Qaida-linked Somali militant group al-Shabab. As NPR correspondent Temple Ralston reports Tuesday, the man's Islamic name translates to "the Foreigner," and in his slightly north African accented English, he said he had been sent to Somalia by Zawahiri to distribute aid to southern Somalia's starving population:"

"    So imagine the reaction when a little over a week ago an unusual video appeared on Islamic websites. It was of a white man with a scarf twisted over his face standing before bags of grain and piles of clothes in a desert in Somalia. In the video, he was addressing the hungry at a local feeding station. He said his name was Abu Abdulla al-Muhajir, or "the foreigner." And there was one thing US officials noticed about the man almost immediately: He was speaking nearly perfect English.[, ]

His English wasn't quite unaccented and his word choice wasn't quite right — but it was close. The young man went on to tell the crowd that al-Qaida leader Ayman al-Zawahiri had sent him to Somalia to distribute food and clothing. "Al-Qaida, under the leadership of Sheikh Ayman al-Zawahiri, continues to highlight the plight of the (community) and continues to support them with every means at their disposal," he said."

"Counter-terrorism officials say the release of this tape could mean al-Qaida is forging closer ties" with Somalia's al-Shabab, Temple-Ralston reports.

And indeed, the release of the tape comes as al-Shabab is accused of stepping up a campaign of kidnappings that target foreign tourists and aid workers providing famine relief in neighboring Kenya.

Several such kidnapping incidents have recently threatened Kenya's critical tourism industry, and have also hampered international famine relief efforts in the Horn of Africa.

"Between kidnappings and politically motivated attacks against humanitarian targets, Somalia is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be an aid worker," Mark L. Goldberg, a journalist with the UN Dispatch blog and co-founder of the Development and Aid Workers News Service told Yahoo News Tuesday.

On Tuesday, one American and two Danish workers with a Danish relief group were reportedly kidnapped in central Somalia by al-Shabab, the UK Telegraph reported. The Telegraph account noted that his was the "fourth abduction of Westerners by Somali gangs in the last six weeks, following kidnappings of British, French and Spanish women from northern Kenya."

Last week, two Spanish medical workers with the medical relief group Medecins San Frontieres were kidnapped from the Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya and taken over the border into Somalia. (Dadaab--the largest refugee camp in the world--has been receiving tens of thousands of Somalis fleeing famine-ravaged areas of southern Somalia mostly under al-Shabab's control.)

The action prompted Kenya last week to launch a military incursion--with alleged French and possibly American air support--against al-Shabab in southern Somalia. On Monday, in possible retaliation, two low-level bombing attacks were carried out against sites in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi.

However, the president of Somalia's weak transitional government on Monday dismayed western allies when he urged Kenya to halt its military incursion in southern Somalia, the Associated Press reported. Somalia's transitional regime ostensibly works with a 9,000-member African Union peacekeeping force to fight al-Shabab to maintain minimal control of the capital of the civil war-stricken country.

"American and European officials on Tuesday joined some Somali residents in expressing dismay over comments from Somalia's president that called on foreign military allies to stop twin advances against Islamic insurgents," the AP's Katharine Houreld reported from Nairobi Tuesday. Somalia President Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed "on Monday publicly told Kenya to halt its military advance in southern Somalia. Diplomats say he also privately asked African Union troops not to move beyond the Deynile neighborhood of Mogadishu, where they are fighting al-Shabab militants for control."

So who is Zawahiri's English speaking aid emissary to Somalia, "the Foreigner?" U.S. military and intelligence officials are intently trying to find out.

"If you ask me what keeps me up at night, it is the thought of an American passport-holding person who transits to a training camp in Somalia, gets some skill, and finds their way back to the United States to attack Americans," U.S. Africom commander Gen. Carter Ham told the Center for Strategic and International Studies earlier this month, Temple-Ralston reported."

Celebrities › Lindsey Lohan Will Be Posing N-ude For Playboy by anonymous6(op): 6:37am On Oct 26, 2011
" Lindsay Lohan has lined up a new gig -- as a Playboy girl.

LiLo is posing for Hugh Hefner's Playboy magazine, a source told Access Hollywood.
The source told Access that Lohan is disrobing for the spread, which is being shot this week in LA.

When contacted by Access, a rep for the actress said, "I cannot confirm at this time."

A spokesperson for Playboy also had no comment on the report. According to TMZ, Playboy reportedly offered the actress $750,000 to strip down. However, she countered, asking for a million dollar payday.
While the magazine would not cough up $1 million, they did reportedly come up from their original offer, which was enough to get the deal done.
In the meantime, Lohan's other gig is community service.

The actress has been ordered to spend 16 hours of community service at the Los Angeles Coroner's Office before her next hearing on Nov. 2, where she'll face the music after a judge ruled she violated her probation.
She already performed one shift at the Coroner's Office last Friday."

Celebrities › Bet Interview With Hollywood Actor Adewale Akinnouye-Agbaje by anonymous6(op): 6:17am On Oct 26, 2011
"Ever since Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje's electric performance as Simon Adebsi on the HBO series Oz, the English actor has been a mainstay in television and film.  The London native who was born to Nigerian parents shocked audiences as Mr. Eko in Lost, had Matt Damon on the run in Bourne Identity and is playing opposite Robert De Niro in this year's The Killer Elite.  Not too bad for the charismatic actor who had no formal training and is a lawyer turned model turned thespian.

On Friday,The Thing opens in theaters, which includes Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Derek Jameson, an American helicopter co-pilot caught up in the horror of a killer alien.  In his first interview with BET.com, he sounded off on working with a young Mary J. Blige, his unforgettable character in Oz, being Black and English in Hollywood, and more.

There is a stigma to all of these horror remakes in the past few years.  What was your reaction to The Thing going the route of a prequel?

I thought it was smart.  There's always some trepidation about doing a remake, especially one that is so loved by fans.  The thing that alleviated my anxiety was that it was a prequel.  That gives us creative license to put our own stamp on it.  And, the way they were going with it -- it's a European first-time director, Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.  They didn’t cast humongous Hollywood names so you knew that it was going to be a different angle and that they were going to pay attention to the story.

You are the only Black actor in the cast.  Is that a good or a bad thing to be the only Black actor on set?

It's a good thing in one sense because it's just me. [Laughs]  That means you are representing that demographic.  You get a certain amount of play in the movie.  Obviously, the downside, you would like to see a more diverse cast.  You'd like to see more Black characters in a movie.  For me, stepping onto the movie, it's work as usual but it is always a little bit strange being the only one.  It's always nice to see your own people around and makes it you feel comfortable.  But, ultimately, when I go into a movie I go in as a character and that's who I am for the moment I'm on it until the moment I leave.  A lot of times I don't have time to think about it, but when I step back and think -- it's a good thing, I'm glad I am that only guy in it!

We're glad you were in it!
Yeah! [Laughs]

Is there any camaraderie from Black actors across the pond -- Idris Elba, Thandie Newton, you?
Definitely!  For me, my career started quite different from the actors you mentioned.  I was a lawyer who did some modeling and then got into acting through that.  My training, I'd like to call it the rough and dirty route, it was more learning on my feet.  I didn't know a lot of actors.  My career started in the States.  However, I've worked with a lot -- it's a community and it's a very small one.  It's smaller for Black guys and it's smaller for Black English guys.  I wouldn't say we hang out and drink beers, but we definitely know each other.

Simon Adebsi from Oz is such an iconic character and the fan base of that show crosses many groups.  What has been your strangest interaction with an Oz fan?
[Laughs] Standing in the DMV and somebody coming up to me with a very deep voice saying, "That was real."  I looked around and There was this dude, about 6'5" and he said, "Yeah that happened to me."  He told me one of the scenes were the guy got violated that it happens all the time.  He said that happened to him -- that was very eerie.

Was the Adebsi hat your choice?
Yes! [Laughs] That's how I grew up, wearing my hat.  The idea was the further the tilt, the badder you are.  If you could hang the tilt on the back of your head, right on the corner and you could still roll -- you were the baddest cat.

What's in your iPod?
It's very eclectic.  You can catch me listening to everything from hip-hop, reggae, afro-beat -- Fela Kuti.  That's what I grew up on.  I play a little bit of music myself.  In fact, music is my first passion.  That's what I thought would really take me to where I am now.

Do you have any reflections on working with Mary J. Blige on the "Love No Limit" video?
She was very down to earth.  We were both young -- I think Puffy was directing the video.  It was an exciting time and that was the famous What's the 411? album. It was really the beginning of the fusion of R&B and hip-hop.  That was the diamond album that really cornered it.  It was more like work as usual, playing the leading man.  I remember she was a little nervous, but when we got into we had fun.  We didn't want to leave the set.

Are you in a relationship or just focused on your career?

I'm single.  I'm focused on my career, but I could always focus on other things too! [Laughs] If it's the right thing, believe me, my focus could be expanded.  But right now I'm very single.

Why should the BET.com audience go see The Thing on Friday?
It's an event movie.  It's a Halloween movie.  If you want to get your spook on, there is no better way to do it.  Also, the mind game -- the thing assumes the human body to exist so you don't know who it's in.  If you want that scare factor this is it. "

Celebrities › Kim Kardashian Signs Up For A Role For A New Tyler Perry Movie by anonymous6(op): 12:02am On Oct 25, 2011
"LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - From newlywed to "Marriage Counselor."

Kim Kardashian has signed on to star in Tyler Perry's new movie, "The Marriage Counselor," TheWrap has confirmed.

The Lionsgate movie is about an accountant and his Ivy League-educated wife -- a marriage counselor who is great at dispensing advice, but makes some seriously bad mistakes in her own marriage.

Kardashian will play the counselor's friend and co-worker, Ava, who -- in excellent Kardashian style -- helps the counselor cope with life and get a makeover.

Jurnee Smollett plays Judith, the counselor.

Perry wrote the screenplay and the stage play the film is based on. He's also directing "The Marriage Counselor," which starts shooting in Atlanta next week.

Perry, perhaps best known for his "Madea" movies, recently finished shooting Summit's "I, Alex Cross," a thriller based on James Patterson's novels. He has the title role in that movie.

Kardashian certainly is well-known to television viewers -- her wedding, like much of the "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" star's life -- was televised, and she's a frequent guest on talk shows. Actual movie roles, however, are another story.

She played Summa Eve in "Deep in the Valley" and Lisa in "Disaster Movie."

Kardashian, who is 31, married NBA star Kris Humphries on August 20."

The stars were styled by the most fashionable designer ’Bengj of Couture’ in Texas, and fans were thrilled and ecstatic to see their favorite actors, as they stood tall on the glamorous white carpet with red roses in front of the custom graphical backdrop.

‘Bed of Roses’ is a film directed by acclaimed director Pascal Amanfo. The story surrounds the intriguing lives of two sisters (Vyonne Okoro and Martha Ankomah) battling for greed, love and revenge which ultimately leads to their demise. Other characters fall prey to their deceitful plots. The wonderful supporting all-star cast members includes Majid Michel, John Dumelo, Lucky Lawson and other Ghallywood stars. Every character added a different flavour to this wonderful dish. Michel leaves audiences in suspense with his hit-man role, Ankomah pleases the men with her jaw-dropping beauty while inciting anger within women with her well-played deceitful character. Okoro gave a splendid performance drawing pity to her character while evolving into a “Kill Bill” persona. While Dumelo did what he does best, have ladies dish it out for his handsome-yet-evil character."

Celebrities › John Dumelo Is In High Demand In Nollywood by anonymous6(op): 8:24pm On Oct 24, 2011
"Following reports that he is in high demand in Nigeria’s Nollywood, tall, curled-haired Ghanaian actor John Dumelo has said he does not jump onto just any movie set in the country.

Speaking to BEATWAVES, John said he accepts and rejects scripts based on different factors. “The fact that there so many scripts coming doesn’t mean I should do all the jobs. There were some scripts that I rejected.

You know, because I have to look at the storyline, who is directing, and some important things before I start shooting the movies. Yes I was rejecting a lot of scripts, but I was doing a lot of movies as well”, he said.

According to John, his decision was also due to time constraint. “The schedule is so tight that I can’t make time. Even as of now, if you call me to do a movie, I will probably tell you January or February because I have other movies to shoot till the end of January. So it was because of the schedules I had that sometimes made me reject those scripts”.

The tall gentleman, who started acting at the age of seven in the hit movie, ‘Baby Thief’, returned from Nollywood four weeks ago. He confirmed reports that Nollywood producers were on his trail, beckoning him to their set.

Even though he said it is tedious working on a lot of sets out there, he added that it is also fun and profitable working in Nigeria. “I initially went there to do two movies, but I ended up doing more. I was working twenty-four hours straight; I finish one movie and move to another set. I was really working in Nigeria, and I have been there for two months.

As we speak now, I am supposed to be in Nigeria, but I have to do some other movie for Abdul Salam”. John also refuted claims that acting is totally distracting his attention from his real estate business.

“Movies are not really pulling me away from my real estate job. Yes, it has limited my input into my business, but beginning of next year I have devised a new strategy to actually share my time accordingly”.

John is expected to return to Nigeria in December to continue shooting, but he says he is most likely going to stay at home and launch his foundation, before he heads out.

He will be embarking on a charity project where he will distribute books, pencils and other learning material to deprived basic schools."

I agree but his mother knows best then any of us on this forum(plus Yoruba's take their elders advise very seriously, especially the mothers); and from what I am seeing his mother is connected to that church so she may see some decent ladies there that she would want her son to be with, so why not. So there is nothing wrong with God's guidance but mothers always see things that sons don't. At the same time I know for sure there must be more to this story, the mother must be finding some decent ladies for him to hook up with as potential wives. I know for sure his mother won't just sit there and let him just marry someone out of no where. In the end of the day though based on D'banj's background when it comes to women he will have a tough time in finding a woman his mother wants him to find but it isn't impossible

"There is no problem because my lyale (The first wife) doesn't even live in Nigeria. She lives in the US with her kids, and she hardly comes around. In Nigeria, I'm the only wife and she is like a senior aunty to me. It is people outside that create problem, when there is no problem. She has lived abroad all her life; she hardly comes home. She is even happy I'm married to her husband. She is like a big aunty we talk all the time," she said.

"I don't see myself as a Yoruba actress, I see myself as a professional. Once you are good, you are good. It's just the medium that differs; I don't see Nollywood as either English or Yoruba. I see Nollywood as one. It's just the medium in which we express ourselves that is different. I see myself as a Nollywood actress. If I get a good script which is written in English, I will do it; if I get a good script which is written in Hausa, if it takes me to learn Hausa language, I will go to that length and do it, because I am a professional and I will do all it takes for me to thrive in my chosen career.

She is lucky, not many first wives would let it go just like that but if all three parties(Mercy, first wife and husband) are fine with it then it shouldn't be a problem

Mercy Aigbe is one of my favorite actresses in the Yoruba film industry but even though she doesn't see herself as a Yoruba actress that's what she is, especially since that is the industry(Yoruba film industry) she is in now; even though we know nollywood basically represents all movies in Nigeria but it isn't that clear cut though.

but overall I am happy for her

"Hunger Forced Me To Go Into Acting" - Patience "Mama G" Ozokwor

" What is happening here?
You can see that I am in make up and costume getting ready to shoot a scene. The makeup is so severe because we are paying for our crimes of trying to get rich very quickly without waiting for God’s time or working hard for what we want.
Isn’t that like a paradox for what is happening everywhere in Nigeria?
It is not just a paradox, it is the main problem with Nigeria and has always been. People see others in big flashy cars living in massive mansions and seeming to have all the money in the world and they want those things too without asking how those things came about. Who told you that the rich do not also cry? If some of them tell you what they had to go through to get the wealth that you see on display and what they have to go through to maintain it you will rather remain as you are. Some people say experience is the best teacher. I disagree because I’ll rather learn from other peoples experiences than allow some things happen to me. Look at some of these people who are amassing all this wealth, some of them end up in prisons while others die poor. The problem really is that people do not learn from anybody’s experiences. You see somebody who has bleached her skin and is suffering from skin cancer because of that bleaching yet one silly little girl somewhere will still go and find some bleaching cream to rub on her skin because she wants to look beautiful.
Now to things a little more professional and personal. What has been Patience Ozokwor’s most defining moment as an actress?
I do not know what you want me to say but when I go through scenes like this and the material comes out and somebody somewhere says that is beautiful, that is the moment for me. We will keep telling our stories and painting these pictures in the minds of the people, imbedding lessons into our stories. The majority might keep ignoring what we are doing but as far as even one person learns something then our defining moments would have come.
The roles you have played in the movies have always portrayed you as a wicked woman, isn’t this a representation of the woman that Patience is in real life?
I have come to find out that people do not really know who they are. When I play the roles that I play it is simply meant to show people who they are. The funny but serious thing is that people watch these movies and they do not know that we are exposing their real characters. There is a lot of wickedness in the land and I promised my God that I will expose wickedness. So that is what I am doing. You know me and you know that I am not a wicked person but the fortresses and barns of wickedness must be exposed because when good men keep quiet evil takes over the land.
Why did you get involved in Nollywood?
The hunger, the passion, the accolades which is what every artist craves for. Our joy is not the money but the opportunity of bringing a smile to somebody’s heart. Before now I’d done a lot of radio drama and stage, I have played roles like Hamlet, Marriage of Anansewa, God’s are not to blame. So this is just a natural progression. I am only following my bliss. So even if anybody comes up tomorrow and says hey! come and be a commissioner or something it still won’t stop me from doing what I am doing.
What if you are called to come and run for political office?
If my people say I should come and run then who am I to say no. It would be like your father sending you on an errand and you say no I won’t go. Right now I am mentoring a lot of people and I can carry that further into politics. It is all about making a difference and if I think or my people think I have something to add then I can do that yes. And remember that part of the theme for this years’ International Day for Women is the 35% representation in governance. Now this can be achieved either through elections or appointments into offices and that is what we all are fighting for.
What has your Journey through Nollywood been like so far?
It has been beautiful, not easy but I do not think I have any regrets. It has been a fulfilling one and I thank God that I am here now. I could have come at any other time but God chose that I should be here now and this is where I am and I believe I am helping to make a difference and touch lives. What we do for a living is not a very easy thing you know. People complain that we earn so much money but tell me how many of those in banking and oil can come and sit here in this draining sun, allow themselves to be covered in all this muck and run through bushes barefooted and expose themselves to all the dangers we expose ourselves to. So I thank God that I can do that. I think whatever we earn is a just reward for what we do. I would also like to say that my journey has also been made a little easier by those who are behind the camera. They are the real stars. Nobody knows them but they do all the work, carry the cables, run the errands, plan the shots and when we all have gone to sleep they are still up working making sure that everything is in place for the next day’s shoot. Nobody recognizes them on the streets but these are the ones more deserving of the recognition. They are the true stars and this journey belongs to them and to the fans.
Last words?
God has deposited in all of us different talents and you will be surprised that if you bring out yours it might dwarf mine. Just be hard working and focused and it might work out for you. And for my fans I’d like to say that I love you all so much. You first loved me and I promise never to disappoint those who believe in what I am doing. Let us keep that love flowing in every part of the country and the world. There is no gain in our killing and maiming each other for power. It is transient. Let us seek for those things that make for peace and not war. "
