kengis: once he explained that he was labelled by society as a "black" person not by himselfwell he has always said he is from a white American mother and Kenyan father, which will never change but culturally he is African American and white American, and he identifies as a African American regardless even though he is technically Kenyan American by blood and heritage but culturally he is not Kenyan. |
kengis: It's not about hearing , it's about reading his own book "dreams from my father" ,period ...I have heard about this and I don't disagree to a extent but to be culturally something you have to know the culture from language, food, music, customs and traditions, and etc and when it comes to Obama well he has no connection to that when it comes to Kenya. Just because his father is Kenyan and black African doesn't give him a pass to say he is culturally Kenyan. |
chic2pimp: No he is not.I don't think you understand what I am saying, no matter what Obama heritage will be Kenyan and white American but he was never raised in the Kenyan culture, his father was never there. he was raised in the culture and influenced by his country and white side, which is African American and white American. for example Boris Kidjoe has a very similar background to Obama but his cultural identification that he lives 24/7 is not Ghanian. |
kengis: Read his book : he defined himself as the offsprings of a kenyan man and a white woman, raised by his white grand parentsTrue but his cultural life style he calls himself is African American |
kengis: he just wanted to be elected ,that's why he called himself "AA"Obama has always identified himself African American since he was young from what I have heard from his biography, which is his prerogative, so i think it is more then him being elected |
Has Direct Parents from Africa?.... His mother was a white woman born in kansas...LmL LoL@How blacks overly obsess about claiming "Biracials" ....He is not just Black....He is every bit White as he is Black.
I meant parent not parents and the info you said I already know, I never tried to claim him as Black, learn how to read and stop trying to make people look stupid. The only blacks that are obsessed in claiming biracials are african americans, your community. S-tupid Stop responding to me because I am not speaking to you but kengis; you are nutts and disrespectful |
So kengis, what makes you think Obama is not culturally African american |
kengis: You did not understand what I wroteok what culture do you think Obama is? |
chic2pimp: LMFAO @ Obama being culturally African American.well he is, he identifies as one, his wife is one, his mentor Reverend Wright was African American so in a way he is but not completely because some of his influences was his white American side |
kengis: I really don't think that Obama is an "african american" culturally !well I get what you are saying he is not the traditional African American where he is the descendants of slaves but has a direct parents from Africa but culturally Obama is African American and white Americans as you pointed out but I won't deny that some African American leaders gave him a hard time because they did |
Usually children are closer to their mothers and tend to associate with their mother's origin, even when they were raised by both parents.
Cosign 100% |
i meant they view caste the same way africans view tribes. Except theirs might be more intense.
yup true |
JallowBah: Not to forget, most of the parents that mixes tend to divorce. Leaving the kids with the mother..and I have met I-dont-know-how-many-women who dont even know what tribe their HUSAND belongs too. So expecting them to teach their kids about their african culture..? Nah. Not gonna happen. And it suprises me every damn time.True |
kengis: Well, being adopted has never been an excuse and has nothing to do with dating interracially or having an inferiority !True but when a black boy is adopted by a white family, their female influence is a white female and since the western world demonizes black women when it comes to being below the ladder especially in America it is inevitable they will fall for the trap easily, but I am not saying it is the excuse majority of the time Well you are right black American culture is europeanized, when it comes to the difference between Boris and Obama you are right; at least Obama visited Kenya three times while Boris never did however in the end of the day both Obama and Boris are african american culturally and have assimilated into the african american community, both have african american wives, both have black African fathers, and both were raised outside Africa. I am not against it actually, to me majority of the time where you are raised and who your mother is really makes a big difference. I actually think both men are good men but are not culturally african. |
kengis: most interracial children (european /african) tend to embrace the european culturewhen it comes to Seal well it was inevitable with him because his father is Brazilian and his mother was Nigerian, he wasn't raised by his parents but raised in the foster care system in the UK by white families and he eventually was token care by white families(which he mentioned in Oprah), so Seal was bound to end up with a white woman, the same with Mario Barotelli, who is Ghanaian but adopted and raised by a white Italian family, so those men are a loss from the beginning. So it doesn't surprise me at all. Whether they have inferiority complex well it is possible but it becomes irrelevant with those two. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario_Balotelli#Early_life http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seal_%28musician%29#Early_life I do agree with what you said about European/black African mixed people lean towards European culture though(majority are born and raised in the western world), for example Boris Kidjoe was born and raised in his mothers homeland(Germany) and his father is Ghanian, he speaks three European languages and has more affinity for the culture but he eventually assimilated into the African American community. Boris kidjoe is culturally African American/European, who your parents are and the land you are raised in makes a big difference. The only exception is if they are born and raised in the African country, at least in West Africa, especially if their mother is black African. |
imsaneuk: If you had interacial children, which cultre would you like them to embrace. You do know their are mixed race people who have Caribbean or african american decent? Or is this question of just mixed race people of Black african decent only? I think when it comes to mixed race africans it depends where they are raised and the back ground of their parents, and based on what I have seen they either go one or another way majority of the time |
PhysicsQED: Modern Ghana was named after the original Ghana empire that was almost entirely unrelated. Kind of like Dahomey being renamed the Republic of Benin.I have heard about this to, you are right |
