Good morning. The link I dropped will be of huge help to anyone who intends to go into Technical Writing. Since I pretty sure compiled the necessary materials. I do hope to get feedback on the articles, let me know what you think. And if I'm able to work with at least 10 companies by August, I will personally mentor one person. I hope you all find it useful, let me.know thoughts on it. Hashnode: https://tracychan7.hashnode .dev/introduction-to-technical-writing-a-beginners-guide Please close the spacing to between (hashnode and .dev) The article consist of resources to teach you Technical Writing, companies to apply for jobs, tools to ease your technical writing journey and where you can build your portfolio. |
rickyamos:Your realism rests with you alone. One can create an opportunity for himself depending on how he goes about it. I know someone who spend two years learning frontend without getting any offers, I also know another who learnt HTML and CSS and built YouTube, email, twitter clone. It wasn't even responsive yet three companies reached out to him with job offers, two Nigerian companies and one remote, this was because he had posted it on twitter. My first job was a referral to someone living in the UK. OP can get a remote job if he wanted but that heavily depends on him. |
Failure2019:And? |
qtguru:Your Diary also inspired me so I'm grateful. Thank you. |
I got another offer this afternoon with a foreign company where someone referred me. The reason I still post here is to inspire developers out there. I also wanted to note out something, some people would probably say I'm lucky because of my gender. Gender has nothing to do with this. Or maybe it does but not entirely. The two companies I write for, I had to apply and show them samples of my work before receiving a response. The Frontend developer job I got, I had to show them projects NOT list out I can do this, I can do that, no one is buying that. The fourth job is from a mobile gaming company, the person referred me because I showed him my zeal to work and passion to learn from others. Meanwhile, I intend to write an article title "Introduction To Technical Writing". It will explain the steps and process in getting into Technical Writing. I will also include materials and links to Technical Writing for free and where to apply for Technical Writing jobs. Since I have a lot on my hands, I will to post it between this week and next week. |
Paystack:Oh... Alright then. |
Tobedated:Thanks |
emmyN:Now I get it. Thank you |
qtguru:I'm not sure of the requirements to get an account with them. But can't I link the wise account to Paystack? |
Paystack:Oh thank you. |
qtguru:Oh thanks. Can Iink it to Paystack or Payoneer? Because the company said they can only pay me through the following means: Paystack, PayPal, Stripe, American bank. |

WiseCoin or the other one? |
Paystack:Hmm... I see. I will keep that in mind though the duration is quite long. |
qtguru:Boss what is the exchange rate for $1 using Either of them? Is it #460? |
Paystack:Thank you |
Devdevdev:Wow, can I see some of your projects? I'm also curious of the project you can finish in 30mins. |
Devdevdev:I once admired your zeal, now all I see are your complains. If you're that frustrated then work harder and stop complaining and hating. |
Good Morning Developers and Tech people. I have a little gist. So I finished the two project applications I was building. Mehn... It felt really good getting paid. I learnt a valuable lesson before getting paid. Well I was initially given half of the payment before I started but I was careless in my spendings so it finished real quick. I was honestly frustrated and had to borrow from others to survive. Well after getting payment for completion of both projects, I paid my debts, bought a lot of food stuff. Before then I use to eat out (one of the source of my careless spending). I bought food stuffs, shared with my younger sis in school. Since then I was managing myself but you know the truth, the money will eventually finish. And I was back to being broke! I knew I can't depend on anyone but myself and God. I also felt guilty because I couldn't be of much help to my family then. Well things worked out great for me by God's mercy. I got a full-time job as a frontend developer, remotely. I also got accepted as a Technical writer for two foreign companies. Currently I have three jobs but with the way I'm currently accessing the situation, I will be getting more offers soon on Technical Writing. Bosses in the house, my issue is that I'm still contemplating on the means to receive payment. I heard the official exchange rate is 460. Can someone please recommend a good payment method with that has a higher exchange rate? A colleague told me about grey but is there anyone using grey here please? One of the companies I work for require I either use PayPal, Paystack, American bank or Stripe. |
Husj:I thought there's a WhatsApp group? |
niel63:Ikr... One can't tell the stack. Just "web developer needed" I wonder how they take him serious. List out the requirements!! Is it a front-end or backend you need and what language? |
Dear Diary, Happy Sunday. I miss being here. So you know how I got a gig through referral right? well, eventually the client also referred me to his friend. And also wanted to refer me to another but something came up. I also found out my client is staying in UK mehn... I was surprised cause I would have charged more if I knew. Anyways I intend to make a good impression so our relationship last a long time and hopefully, he keeps bringing clients my way. Aside that, I recently lost a writing gig. Well it's all my fault but let's talk about it. So the person was looking for a Technical writer who has experience with API documentation. Someone who has written something similar to Paystack. Well I had a Hashnode account but I only had one article there. Nothing special to help with their requirements and so that was it. I was pumped up from losing that gig so I started writing again. I didn't just write for writing sake. But I set a goal, Today's Friday 5th of May and I intend to get a writing jobs before Next week runs out. I recently wrote an article and surprising, I gained engagements and followers from it. My followers went from 2 to 9. Ya think that's easy? lol MONDAY 8/05/2023 I have a Test this week and a deadline for the second Job. Mehn... I'm stressed out. I also set a goal this week to get a writing gig so I will be documenting the steps I took and the final results. My first goal is to publish one article per day. Well I know it's not going to be easy, especially with the fact that I have test and a project deadline but my resolve is not weak. I was up since early morning and have been browsing through the interest on Technical Writing. Also read articles about developers who made it through Technical Writing and the steps they took. I didn't do much on Monday because I had Test on Tuesday morning so I had to study. After the test, I went to the Law library to work and ended up doing overnight in school. Lately, my articles views keeps increasing. I opened an account on dev platform and I already have 60 followers. While on Hashnode, I have 10. I got a repository of companies to apply for writing jobs. I have written to few. I have articles I wanna write but my current job doesn't spare me the chance and my client keeps reminding me of the deadline. Also, I haven't been able to save because I keep getting request from my family. I love helping them but that keeps me in the same situation as I was before - Broke and miserable. For the current job that I'm on, Almost half payment is already dedicated to my family due to promises and problems. For my next job, I will be cautious. I still recall how I spent 80k in 4 days. Not just for personal use. Sigh I have been sleeping in school lately because I'm trying to finish this job. My apartment has no Light - Well Solar is in my wishlist after getting a new apartment. I have learnt a lot from building projects for my clients and I have to say, I'm really excited to learn more. Taking my writing to the next level because.... Money must be made! Also I'm a good writer. Check out my Hashnode account and give a feedback please. I also apologize if I haven't responded to any person's mail here. CaveAdullam:First of all, create-react-app is quite outdated and no longer in use by meta. Which means you can use it but will miss out on the latest updates on React. Secondly, there is nothing too complex in Vite unless you decide to see it so. It is quite simple, straightforward and faster than create-react-app. Thirdly, people's understanding differ. John Smilga's course may have been a little confusing to you but will be different for others. I don't know what is confusing about a course where he literally explains things slowly and from scratch. |
learning22:I suggest you use Vite to create react application, it is quite fast and simple. Let me explain the process: - start by typing this on your terminal npm create vite@latest - press enter and it will show a pop up for the project name. You can either rename it or press enter to leave the default name. - After which you will be given options to pick a framework, pick React and press enter - Next, you will be required to pick a variant btw Typescript or JavaScript. Pick JavaScript and press enter - Then you will be prompted to run three commands: - cd project-name - npm install - npm run dev This will run your app on the browser and you can start building your react application. |
learning22:They are a couple of Youtubers I follow. Honestly, I don't hold a strong opinion for paid courses because you can get great courses on YouTube depending on who you follow. Here are the ones I follow: - Code Evolution: His react courses are broken into short videos which makes it easier for you to follow. And he also covers Typescript and Redux but the course was recorded 4years ago and the playlist has over 100+ short videos. - Netninja: Theirs is also a playlist consisting of 38 videos or so. But it was recorded 2 years ago. - freecodecamp: There's this react course I downloaded. It is over 14hrs long but it was recorded few weeks ago so you can find all the latest update there. The course is being taught by John Smilga and it is very comprehensible. |
davien:Amen and thank you. |
tensazangetsu20:Thank you. Your tips and thread really helped me, thanks again. |
Tobedated:Oh thank you! I also admire your growth. |
It's been a while since I came to this platform. A lot has happened within that time so let's talk about it. First of all, I landed a job! So initially, someone referred me to a company where I was interviewed by them and was give a take-home project. Honestly, I wasn't too enthusiastic about doing the project because it was a Nigerian company and we know how many of these companies use devs without paying them all in the name of giving them experience. Back then I had to learn React to build the project and I was still in the process of learning JavaScript! Long story cut short, I ignored the project and was focused on learning only to learn I could have been paid if I did intern with the company. Eventually, I reach the stage of depression, I was flat broke and my dad barely take my calls. Well I don't blame him because we're as much as the loud house so he gets billed daily. I was so broke that I couldn't buy pure water sometimes and had to drink from the compound tank. I was getting fed up of everything but I couldn't give up. I slept in the computer science department most times to save me the cost of going back and forth to my apartment because they always had Light and free WIFI but it was of no use. I can't recall the exact day of the week it happened but then a collogue reached out to me and someone who needed a frontend dev for his project. I messaged the person but didn't get any response. Well, I didn't have high hopes of getting the job anyways but then I got a response from the client in the evening time. We hopped on a call where we spoke about the project, the pay and deadline. After that, he suggested another meeting the following day to finalize our agreement before ending the call. That night I couldn't sleep. I was so excited and grateful to God. I listed out things I would like to buy with the money e.g half bag of rice, beans, cream, slippers and many more. I had no food stuffs and the only old slippers I had, was very old and lifeless. The following day, we spoke and he shared his screen to show me the dos and don't of the website. After which he sent half payment of the job. Omo when I saw the alert, I unconsciously screamed. I was very very happy. Part of the money, I sent to my mom and siblings. They were all very happy and grateful. That client also referred me to his collogue, so more work for me. I was very happy! I don't intend to settle there tho, my plans is to pitch for jobs after this using the ones I have built. Through a guy's post named David, I realized, I don't have to wait for jobs to come to me. I will message companies with my projects, and skills. Only foreign companies tho Nothing concern me and Nigerian companies. Also, I'm currently learning React. |
