Compliment of the season to everyone. We're currently on Christmas break. Really feels nice but honestly, alx is too fast pace.

Can you believe we did JavaScript for three days. We had to cover a lot of concepts with projects included.

And my exams are starting on 28 which is next week. Well what a year... I can only be enthusiastic about next year but not getting my hopes high.

Do have a lovely Christmas and happy New year.

@femi9naija

I quoted a different person before. Please shed light on why you would prefer Microverse to ALX...
With alx, you can learn a lot in a short amount of time but it is very draining and sometimes you might not be able to fully learn because you're too focus on the task.

After graduation you get added to the ROOM for opportunities. But your skills will determine if you do get a job. I wouldn't advice a beginner to go for alx unless he or she isn't not working and fully dedicated.

Microverse deals more on full-stack and pair Programming

Meaning you will be building projects with your peers for seven months. That's a very effective way of learning. Plus you do not pay for the program unless you get a job paying you at least $1k per month.

It increases your chance of remote jobs but get the job is highly dependent on you.

Thank you so much. I have gone through and have already started working on the list.... The only part I am not sure of is this: My system is running on windows. Do I need another operating system like Linux before I finish the programhuh Or Windows alone is enoughhuh? Please help me shed light on this.

Thanks Boss
No you don't.
You can even make use of Vs code terminal

I applied two days ago and i was accepted. Onboarding starts in January. so i believe we'll be in the same batch. I was already on my journey to become a frontend dev when i saw this opportunity. You can imagine my shock to see that the curriculum is wider than just React, Html, CSS or even JavaScript.... But i know I must strive to be able to thrive.... so, here am I!
Getting excited is good but if you don't prepare ahead, you won't be able to last long before you think of giving up.

I want to believe you have gone through the thread? So you know what and what to study ahead.

Hello everyone, hello Anonymous6o6!

I applied for the ALX program yesterday and got accepted this morning.

I'm among those who'd be starting January next year. I'd like to know how many more of us would be starting then so we can connect.

And Tracey, I'd appreciate it if you could provide me with the materials I'd be needing from the onset.
I can't estimate the number of people that would be starting but I suggest you prepare ahead.

You have to learn the following ahead:
- Emacs
- Vim
- git and GitHub
- Shell
- Pseudocode and algorithms
- C programming language

Learn them in this order

Biko can you explain to me what Blockchain is about. Not the Bitcoin thing o
According to IBM

Blockchain is a shared, immutable ledger that facilitates the process of recording transactions and tracking assets in a business network.

An asset can be tangible (a house, car, cash, land) or intangible (intellectual property, patents, copyrights, branding). Virtually anything of value can be tracked and traded on a blockchain network, reducing risk and cutting costs for all involved.

Good Morning Everyone

My website is now running, you can check it out as I will be posting career articles, Tech News and interesting stories.

http: //traceyshub. wordpress. com/

Please close the space to access the website.
Have a great day.

Also, there was a govt scholarship issued to Nigerians recently and the duration is supposed to be for three months.

That is a very short time to learn Blockchain. Meaning, they require experience Blockchain devs and they have a requirement similar to ALX. That you have to be among the top 30% people in the program in the first two weeks to continue.

Although I'm not taking the program, I am in the group, so I will be updating how things goes in my Website.

Do ensure to follow please.

For those who are curious if the program link is still available, it is actually closed.

I apologize for not saying it earlier.

There's also another Blockchain Program going on for 12 months being sponsored by Binance and Ultiva. The first six months is for software development while the second six months is for Blockchain development.

Let me get the link.

Hey there, how are you doing. I haven't seen you on LinkedIn and GitHub.
I want to ask if you're still being forced to make use of emacs and vi concurrently? I want to know if I can completely abandon emacs and focus on vi. Thanks
I wouldn't make use of the word forced but you have between emacs or vim to pick the one you're most compatible with.

This is because you're working in the Sandbox which is like a terminal. Emacs and vim are a faster way to create files and inserts your code into them.

So we just start SQL today and the tasks are 24hrs.

I just got back from classes so I'm currently on it. It covers:
- Introduction of database
- Types (relational and non-relational (Nosql)database)
- CRUD - Create, Read, Update, Delete
- More on Relational and Nosql

ThankGod001:
I have figured out why I was scored 0
what actually happened:
Vi, Emacs and Git projects all use same sandbox
After doing Vi and Emacs successfully. I moved to Git project, made an error, so I destroyed the sandbox
I then did the Git project not knowing the codes for VI and Emacs have been destroyed cheesy

My first projects have been marked today and I got full marks
Please guys don't destroy ur sandbox, ever! If you make a mistake, just delete the project files and start over
Well... I knew that was the closest possiblity.
Destroying your sandbox is same as destroying all ur progress. Rather than destroying, make use of the "rm -r directory_name" to delete the directory or file.

Please do you have any idea why I was scored zero?
pic1 my project on emas
pic2 how my project was passing all the checker marks, before the deadline
pic3 now this is what I see when I start a new test on the checker, after I was scored zero, after the deadline
Did you run checkers on your code after you were done?
Also, did you destroy your sandbox? That's the closest reason as to why you have zero.

Boss.. I've been following up ur thread. I've happy you have held on on the second journey.

One of the advantages I have to there at work is 24/7 power supply and free WiFi.
I was recently admitted to ALX to start in January..but I later realized that the job I have at hand may not give me that time to study the materials in day time..like I close from work by 6 . And I consider that as not to succeed in ALX.

I'm now thinking of self teaching my self..till maybe I may move to another job were I'll have chance in-between work hours.

So what are the benefits ass. with being trained institutes like ALX as against the sololearn/self-taught path??
The benefit is that with Alx, there's deadlines, constant projects and material you have to keep up with. You do not decide when to do it or not. And once you get adapted to their method, you would benefit from it.

But alx is mentally tasking!!! And very harsh for newbies in programming cause you always have learn new concepts with 24hrs deadline.

Thanks to that, it was easy to learn JavaScript

Meanwhile, I forgot to state that I have been added to the ROOM. You know the online platform where alx graduates are added for networking and other opportunities.

But... I'm not really inside, I do get the announcement and event but there's a limitation because I am yet to graduate as an alx student.

Well... Why was I added to the ROOM even though I haven't graduated? Well it is because I did ALX Virtual Assistant Program though I didn't not finish. That was same mail where I got the room's invitation.

Meanwhile, we're currently on Airbnb project (You can browse about Airbnb website to check the website). The Airbnb project is broken into several parts:
- The python console part for automation
- The SQL part for building the data base
- The html, css and JavaScript to build the main webpage (I look forward to this part).

Good day all, please can someone help me. My son will be writing his waec next year and he's still pretty young to enter the university. I want to engage him into something like IT for a year before he enters school. I believe so much in skills because I didn't get that opportunity when I was younger. He's actually a twin but I don't see his twin sister as a technology person that's why I'm focusing on the boy for now. I will still figure out what the girl will be doing with her time.
There are multiple options, you can allownhim engage in an online bootcamp (Microverse, Qwasar, Alx, Freecodecamp, Odin), YouTube videos are also helpful if he already have a clear path of his niche.

Is it compulsory to join a Peer Group on PLD?
Does it affect scores?
Not compulsory but necessary because you get to discuss previous concepts with your peers and also talk about your challenges

It's a full-stack development program for 6months. According to them, after the 6 months, you MUST work for them as a means of paying them. Though they also pay you for while you work. But after the program, they will test your skills to know if you have the necessary skills before you go for the job
