Classes has been really tight that I barely have time to breathe. Today's Monday and I have class from 9am - 6pm.

I haven't opened my intranet since two days ago.

Why create seperate whatsapp groups when there is slack?

If you still want to focus on your phone, it neans you are not ready.
Having a WhatsApp group isn't a bad idea, it mostly depends on the aim of the group.

Group wey you dey help people create all the time, e reach my turn you no create again smiley smiley
Well... I had my reasons. I hope everyone would heed this warning because there certain people who create WhatsApp groups and promise to help participants ace all their projects. That's really dumb because people end up paying them when they're going to share copied answers.

This was the reason ALX was against it.

There's a certain human being who was able to outsmart 500+ people. He added them to the group but limited it that he is the only one that is able send message.

Same person who copied people's repo would take it to his group and demand for money, promising to help them pass the first month.

Is it about passing?
Is that what it is all about? Cause at the end of the day, if you don't learn anything then what's the essence?

I will appreciate it if you guys don't spam this thread with links! That is something I do not appreciate please.

You can create your own thread and drop links there, I hope those posting links will heed my words.

If you're studying medicine then it will be very challenging.

JavaScript React for frontend and Node for backend.

I've never been so confused. I don't feel confident entering the job market with just these:
Html,
CSS,
JavaScript,
React,
Typescript,
ExpressJs,
NodeJs,
MongoDb
MySQL

I need a good backend tech to add to this stack and I've drilled it down to the trio of Java, Python and PHP.

The reason I need a backend language to add to aforementioned is:

1. To stand out from all the average developers competing with me in the job market.

2. To get good in data structures and algorithms as I don't trust JavaScript to suffice in this aspect.

3. To add to Nodejs when applying to junior jobs locally and abroad.

4. Something to use on side freelance projects while looking for a job.

So I need your help guys. I've searched the internet but I've not been able to get a substantial answer.

Python, Java or PHP?
Honestly... If you know this much then you're a full-stack developer. Because JavaScript will serve as your frontend while Node as backend.

If you are that good with projects to show, you shouldn't have a problem. Don't underestimate the power of JavaScript. It isn't just about learning you know...

Well.. well.. well
5 months into the program and I have no words to explain my experience. Especially since school has resumed.

But if anyone has any questions, I won't hesitate to answer or help out.

I'm still in the program, just not fully concentrated.

Wow. Boss qtguru on my thread. This is really inspiring. Funny coincidence since I was about to tag you as an inspiration a song with Alchemyofcodes and Anonymous606.

I hope to keep this up and give other people with very busy schedule that it's possible to learn programming. I've been doing this for about a month, not easy but it's been worth it.
This is an interesting read. Would go back to mine once I settle down in school

Life of a programmer...
It can be depressed at times and great at other times, at one point, I stopped to look back, "Have I achieve much in the program? How confident am I? Could it be that I have wasted my time and effort?"

These questions are with me everyday, My work wasn't helping in anyway, my boss complained how I was always on my laptop and so, I had to put it away. I always got home late, exhausted and tired, I sleep for a couple of hours only to wake up by 4 or 5am. My waking up depended on the time I slept.

I felt like quitting my job and all focus on learning but some of my colleagues advised me against, I'm glad to have listened to them but it doesn't mean I won't quit in the near future. For now, I will try to save up as much as possible while learning with the time available to me.

Programming is not easy but Alx Program is even more complex!

Lol… why now. You could have just done it. Alx virtual assistance program is easy and important too. I combined it with Alx SE too and I successfully graduated from it without being in grace period.
It’s even easy and relevant. To me if you can’t cope with ordinary virtual assistant program how will you have the patience and grit to complete alx SE. I doubt sha
Perhaps I wasn't cleared with my explanation up there.

I did the Alx Virtual Assistant Program to the end but then there was a particular milestone I failed and was given grace period but I decided NOT to do it, not because I can't but because I realized I have no interest in the course!

I ventured into it because I needed a side job but then having learnt the roles, pay and stuffs of the VA, I realized I wasn't interested even a little bit so I left it! Why finish when I won't be using it?

Also, I am able to cope with Alx Software engineering program!!! Just because I decided to quit doesn't mean I will do the same for the SE Program. I have been at it for four months while working, so don't draw conclusions.
ProgrammingRe: My Software Engineering Journey In ALX Africa by Anonymous6o6(op): 9:14am On Sep 22, 2022
Also resumed my frontend course, I felt like I wasted my time with Alx Virtual Assistant Program. Not like the program is bad or irrelevant but rather, I had no interest in it!

While combining the Virtual assistant program with software engineering, I couldn't bring myself to like anything about the program and so, I didn't give it my all. I was given a grace period for one of my project but I chosed to ignore it.

PS: Grace period is the time where you could redo a failed project.

And even if I had done the project, I had no intention to work as a VA, which was why I decided to let it be. People would probably talk about the importance of the certification lol

Well, even without the certificate, I could get a job, certificate without skills is useless. Which is why I have been studying python and refreshing my knowledgeable on html and css.

Even though we were given a week break, it wasn't enough time. Couldn't rest for minute without thinking of python and the fact that I had wasted the day doing nothing.

So far we have done two projects on python "Hello World" and "if, else and function". I made use of LinkedIn learning for python. One of the mistake we sometimes make is using too many materials or quick to change materials because someone is using a material and it works for them, that doesn't mean it will work for you. Just stick to one and make google search when confused. This actually helped me.

The material I'm using for python is a 19hrs video on LinkedIn learning, it covers from beginners level to advance. It was very comprehensive for me that I didn't need to look anything or any other material.

The "Hello World" project on python covers python as a pyscript, which is a combination of python and shell scripting. We always had to include (#!/usr/bin/python3) in the first line before proceeding to write code.

Once you're done writing your code, you save it and run "pycodestyle" which checks your code for errors, if clear, you can run the code.

ProgrammingRe: My Software Engineering Journey In ALX Africa by Anonymous6o6(op): 8:18am On Sep 22, 2022
Kaka5:
Hello Tracy, pycodestyle is similar to Betty. Its not used to compile python code. Its just used to check for pep8 style guide - which helps programmers write readable code.
Oh thank you for the clarification

Final projects

We're on break for this week, so I will be using it to prepare for python which will be starting next week

With my knowledge on C, python ought to be simpler but not when ALX is involved.

We used gcc to compile C code while we will be using pystyle to compile python. I'm still in python as an interpreted language after which I will be reading on functions. I also intend to write with code samples for accountability.

I have a lot of resources but will be using LinkedIn learning and Python Modular Pdf to study.

Playermayweda:
Heard alx requires 70hrs/week. If that's true isn't that too much?
Yeah
70hrs a week
14hrs a day
Sounds so unrealistic but that is ALX telling you to prepare ahead because of your tasks and projects

It doesn't mean you have to be online all the time but you might end up staying online all the time to study materials, engage with your peers regarding the tasks and doing the projects.

Hi Tracy, I am already messed up as an August cohort 9 presently we have started C. I got hooked on the git hub assignment. 0x01-git to be precise the git merge conflict threw me off balance i couldnt resolve it. By the time i was able to resolve the conflict manually by adding up the files in the main, I already lost the message on the conflict. I restarted but it was not adjusted I had to destroy that was when I got into more trouble before then i read up a manual on how to resolve git merge conflict but I ended up more confused. I was hell bent on getting all the assignments done by myself I already did most of the assignments but have four outstanding projects yet to be touched now. My score is very low also 48℅ to be precise. I think the best option is to re-apply, copy and paste as much as necessary when needed just to meet up. I just hate the idea of getting a certificate I will not be able to fully defend 101℅ .
You have really struggled through
Next time, don't destroy your sandbox because destroying your sandbox to delete all your work, not just on git but on emacs, vim and shell.

I advise you reapply and start preparing ahead

Good Morning Y'all. ALX Programs looks like one of the hottest and coolest upskilling remote learning programs for Africans this 2022. This Year programs are free courtesy of Sponsorship from some Companies and Partners who know how beneficial it is to upskill talents from the African Region to improve Global Work Force.

#DoingHardThings is a Motto for ALX especially for the 12 Months Software Engineering program. 70 Hours per week is no Exaggeration. I am a June cohort in my 4th Month and it ain't easy for the Faint Hearted so I can relate with the person who opened a thread saying he has dropped out.

Acquiring these Tech and Soft Skills and being Added to the Room as a Fellow is the main thing any one in ALX should aspire to. All ALX Program Graduates get to be added to that Room - Networking and Job Opportunities is what the Room is all about.

If you are already a Dev and you trust your Technical Skills, you mustn't take the 12 Month Route to get to be Added to the Room.
Not everyone can give 70 hours per week and many people have full time jobs too. You can as well try other lesser time engaging ALX Programs e.g take the VA Course which is 8 Weeks long and when you finish it, you will be invited to the Room during which you can now add your LinkedIn and Set up for profile as a Developer rather than a Virtual Assistance worker.

This is just my opinion on how to join the Room as a Dev with lesser hassles. The Skills you get when you are able to finish the 1 Year Full Stack ALX SE program cannot be in any way underestimated
This is my fourth month in Alx Software engineering program, I finished Alx Virtual Assistant Program last week, the "ROOM" for virtual assistant is different from the one for software engineers.

Alx designed it in a way that each course has it's own ROOM. Besides, anyone with such mindset might find it getting into the ROOM. The reason is because after the alx program, you have to defend your projects and pass an assessment test before you're added to the ROOM.

I once spoke with an ALX graduate, the guy graduated last year but wasn't added to the ROOM because he couldn't defend his projects and he didn't pass ALX ROOM assessment test.
