ProgrammingRe: The Journey by Anonymous6o6(op): 8:27pm On Feb 25, 2023
I created a habit for myself; irrespective of what I'm learning, I will always build projects daily. Either a new one or an unfinished one.

So today, aside the election that took place, I continued my react tutorial, built a landing page called Jobconnect with Tailwind css.

It is a website where users seeking for jobs sign up, update their profile and get recommendations based on their profile. I couldn't finish it because there was no power supply today.

I got the inspiration from a website I saw online, I loved the user design and decided to build something similar. Would drop the link when I'm done and hosted it.

So I intend to study React overnight (due to constantly spending the night in computer science department), I find it hard to sleep at night and even when I try, I end up waking up between an hour or two later.

I spoke with a colleague of mine today and we decided to build projects together, though individually.

We decided on three projects to show as our major projects:
- Google search bar
We will be collect google api from rapid api website and building it with React Js.
- Airbnb Clone
I already have the figma design so it will make it easier for us but there's a lot of work to do and I'm excited
- Recipe website
We're unsure of the template so we will be surfing YouTube for templates. I already built a recipe webpage and I'm still working on it though I made use of Html, css and JavaScript but I intend to use React Js for this one.

Aside that I have few unfinished projects that I appended because of React. I got lucky when I made friend with a UI/UX designer in the CS department, tho he is a already graduate. He provided me with some of his work, the figma design to work on.

I feel like I'm able to vibe more in a conversation when it is about programming and projects.

How I downloaded GTA v on my laptop but yet to play it because I feel like I'm wasting my time.
Alas... What a hassle.

I couldn't think of a unique name for this thread but I hope it serve its purpose.

I already have a thread in the diary section where I document about my journey as a developer but the essence of creating this one is because, there are times where I require the opinions or feedback of other devs, and I do receive mails with questions a little late, so think here as a safe space.

My diary -

So... About my stack
I'm a front-end developer and a software engineer. Initially wanted to go for backend but due to certain reasons, I realize I enjoyed frontend more. My plan is to do MERN but I will get there while working as a front-end dev - Money must be made to encourage progress.

I took quite some time creating my roadmap because that way I can stay focused without being in doubt if there's more. I will be dropping the link I used and my personal roadmap.

link: https: //www .linkedin . com/posts/satyajitsamal_frontend-developer-roadmap-activity-7007909333627736064-In23?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_android

PS: please ensure you close the spaces in your browser for the link to work

After browsing through, this is my personal roadmap:
- HTML
- CSS
- Tailwind CSS
- JavaScript
- DNS and hosting
- Git and GitHub
- CSS preprocessor - Sass
- React
- NextJs
- Typescript
- React Native
- Data structure and Algorithm
- Testing
- CI/CD

I also have projects I have listed down, some of which I'm current building and some, in the future. Regarding my roadmap, I did state it is my personal roadmap which means you can create yours depending on your research.

Least I forget, I also write in the form of documenting my project, the problems I encountered and also solutions. It honestly hasn't been easy considering the fact that I'm a law student but It hasn't been easy for anyone going into programming.

Current Progress
I'm currently learning react and building projects. It hasn't been long since I started learning React and the reason I had to rush it is because I was referred to a company for internship and the take-home project given to me requires I know React. Though they were understanding enough to give me time but I know if I take too long, It is good as gone.

The aim of this thread is to continue documenting my journey and connect with developers because replying people's mail late is not polite. I also recently created a YouTube channel but still setting it up. I intend to post projects I build there. There are many benefits of having a YouTube channel but the most important one is that it improves one's skill as a developer. This is because you can't record some half-ass video and post there. Making research helps the quality of the content.

That's enough for now, back to work. I'm currently in the Computer Science department watching tutorials and I have plans to do overnight but I'm still contemplating it because of tomorrow's election.

We can properly communicate here Tobedated and I will check out the Twitter clone, also check out the latest project I posted.

EricBraven:
React props.
Props are arguments or properties passed into react components.
Props are how data can b passed from one component to another , as a parameter.
Props are passed as an object and can be destructed.

React hooks
useState - update state.
useEffect - allow us to perform side effects like setTimeout in our components.
useContext - allows us manage state globally instead of prop drilling.
Continue tomorrow...
You're learning the theoretical concepts of Reacthuh
If writing it out makes it more understandable for you, I'm curious if you can deal with it practically too?

Unless they have a replacement, they will spare him a day or two if he shows lack of enthusiasm in continuing with them.

He can even skid a day or two and claim to be ill to apply in school to teach them computer. Many schools now are going computer literate.
Seems like you have it easy.
You don't know it is easy for them to get a replacement? If they put up a poster for a wanted assistant, people would apply in no time.
Please be a little realistic when you type.

No matter where you work, you can't skip work without informing them ahead.

you are very wise.

I am just like the "Friend" that nigga was talking about.

I work in a cafe too, my pay is 4x the pay of the o.p, i have a very high degree of freedom in my company, I have 2 personal laptop and 2 personal desktop computers all idle in my room. I have access to very single machine in my company being the senior instructor (Its not just a cafe, its a big company that have branches). I teach student in my company and am learning coding too because i have alot of time.

This is far not the same with the o.p so whatever that guy said above is surely or 90% not going to work for the o.p. especially diverting classes to online. We dnt tolerate that in my company. IT'S VERY WRONG!
It was easy to predict it because I once work in a 8am - 8pm job. 15k and I had to make a lot of expenses. I felt like I was working for free

Discuss with the school to reduce your workload to 3 days a with with same pay or 10k. If your contribution is valuable they will.

If they say no, tender your resignation if you know your Worth take a week submit your CV to 100 schools in your area. This time don't sell yourself short and have at least two to three days off to yourself.

You can start from there.

Man wey no get time no fit make progress.
You are honestly right but look at it this way.

In Nigeria, Any job that underpay for labor will NOT accept the worker working part time because that means they will need another worker!

Secondly, "APPLYING TO 100 SCHOOLS" is not an easy fit. He is working in a café not school, although he teaches the students, there are limitations. I'm not saying if he applies, he won't get one but there are things to consider to avoid going for a worse one.

Okay sir, thanks.

I can't say I'm good at a professional level but usually when I writes it is more of inspiration to people so I don't even know which niche will be better for me but I am studying books about copywriting like "My life in advertising" and the likes.

I have heard all what you've said sir, thanks.
You have to pick a niche and keep samples of your work. Pick between copy writing, content writing or creative writing. For any one of the three you pick, I suggest you open a Facebook account to grow your audience.

I do creative writing as a hobby and when I posed two chapters on Facebook, My audience grew from 0 to 83 and I haven't updated in a while.

I hope you get the idea?

yrhuhfy113:
hello sir.... don't quit.
I had a friend in your shoes years ago... guess what, HE MADE SO MUCH MONEY FROM THE EXACT JOB YOU ARE DOING.
Here is how....

He learned many online money making ways on his phone, and during his classes he introduces it to his students... and some paid him to teach them privately online.
One of the things he learned was URL SHORTENER with adfly... so he should give about 50 of his students the task to click on his links for him... this gave him 50-80usd monthly because most of the teenagers used VPNs so it registered as foriegn clicks... he made money.

before long he started a whatsapp TV with his students and in 2 years it grew to over 3000views per post and in the same two years, his URL SHORTENER has become a group where everyone visits each others links and that's how from a 20k monthly salary he was making 170k monthly, he bought laptop, paid rent for a better place, bought keke for 600k and MOVED HIS LIFE FORWARD.... right now, he makes minimum of 500k monthly from whatsapp tv, ebooks and paid classes he hold online.

sure he left the 20k monthly computer school teacher job once he hit his first 150k... but I hope you understood my point.

MAXIMIZE THAT PLACE, USE IT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE.
All you need is LIGHT, so you can see the unlimited advantage you have there
its well.
Let's be realistic, this suggestion is nice but not easy considering his situation or if I will be blunt with you, It is rather unrealistic!

- Remember he works for someone, he wouldn't want to jeopardize his position by teaching something outside what was given to him after all, he works in a cafe. Also he mentioned coding with his phone even though he works in cafe which means, they may be strict.
Your friend has a degree of freedom to be able to achieve what he did.

- It took your friend more than two years before leaving there, and his "many" ways of making money by making people click on a link isn't something that could happen now.

- Also, Op works 8am - 8pm, what time does your friend leave his place of work?. I have been in that position so he has tiny chance of hosting classes, that is, if his only day of rest is Sunday.

- Also, your friend earn way higher than him but I feel their experiences are different. I get the idea you are suggesting which is great but won't be easy.

I work from 8am-8pm, Monday to Saturday. My pay is 12k. I teach students how to operate computers and do some other cafe jobs. As a result of the teaching I have even lost my voice too. And I have also be coding with my phone. The thing is I've foodstuffs that can keep me healthy for months also 60k in my account I want to use and buy a laptop and start coding but this job is not giving me chance to learn coding effectively. And it seems my future depends on programming. Please what should I do?? Should I quit this job get a Laptop maybe do freelancing writing to support myself get a better Laptop later but continuing the job also considering the pain I'm going through. Should I continue or stop this job.
Quitting your job at this period of time will be of huge disadvantage to you because learning programming takes times and requires money for data and constant electricity.

Meanwhile, how good are you at writing? What type of writing are you into and do you have samples of your work? If yes, you could use it on upwork and try applying locally.

It doesn't get easy by quitting unless you can provide yourself with an opportunity before quitting.

Choosing to document your ALX software engineering program journey is a brilliant idea; it will serve as an organized journal for you. Also, almost every article and video discussing the programme, that I have read and watched implies that it is quite tasking, your thread would help prep newcomers' minds and help them fare better.
I'm glad that this thread is of help to newbies

Normally, this is what I write in my diary section but I need opinions.

Who knows... It might be helpful to others.

So my stack is Frontend Development and My learning has been more focused on that aspect.

I'm still doing ALX Program for those who are curious but I learn Frontend Development aside while building Projects.

I thought of documenting how I built my projects.

Take for instance, If I decide to build a movie website, I will write the codes I used and explain them. I know it won't be easy but writing is my fort.

What do you think? It could also help othershuh

I was looking for a review once my application got accepted when I stumbled on this thread.
Thank you Tracy, I couldn't have asked for anything better than this. Now I have more than enough idea about what the program entails.
I've been able to download the c pdf files and will start reading on it as you suggested. I have about two weeks to get myself ready before the onboarding process. Thank you for this thread once again.
I'm glad to be of help.
