We're done with the C shell project and will be going for a one week break before starting Python.

This means we're through with the first sprint and will be start the second sprint when we start python.

I'm already reading python, can't allow same experience that I have on C to happen on python.

Waste of time program.
Lol...
Google Metaverse program, they train software engineers for 6months, you have to up and ready from 8am - 6pm I assume.

Even if 5 people graduate from Alx, they're human beings, one thing tho about the program is that, it is advisable to do it while you're unemployed.

I'm currently on the program, my 4th month actually. It hasn't been easily doing it while working an 8am - 8pm job but this is why ALX advise connecting with your peers. You can always meet them when struck.

Op probably didn't have close Colleagues in the program or never went to them when it was difficult.

airsaylongcome was right, passion
will play a role in keeping you for a long time in the program.

Yes, I decided to quit the programme because :
1. The program doesn’t give adequate time to go through the resources and complete the project.
2.being that I am working , if I give ALX the maximum amount of time it requires it will affect my work.
3.. the resources provided are not adequate . You will have to do a lot of googling to successfully complete the project.
4. I still have to attend to my pet projects in order to build my portfolio.
And if I don’t give enough time for ALX , I will eventually drop out. I just decided to respect my self and stick to learning at my own pace that has brought me this far. I don’t know why ALX decided to train software engineers in just a year. Most of the students will actually burnout and eventually drop out. They should just make it a two year programme
For your third point, that isn't an issue in any way, but an advantage as a developer. Even while learning at your own pace l, you do make use of google or YouTube when struck and if you don't, I don't know what to say to you.

What if you go Fullstack?

Will it be fine by you?
Yeah
It is actually full stack but I wanna be more on the backend side.
ProgrammingRe: My Software Engineering Journey In ALX Africa by Anonymous6o6(op): 3:30pm On Sep 06, 2022
I will be taking the 100 days challenge for C language to be accountable to myself, this means I will be studying C language from start. So far I have installed Ubuntu on the Virtual box.

I also plan to host a google meet on C for the August cohort but it depends on them, it has been a hectic week. I wish I could take a leave for two days, away from alx and coding, just anime and sleep.
ProgrammingRe: My Software Engineering Journey In ALX Africa by Anonymous6o6(op): 3:21pm On Sep 06, 2022
Mehn... A lot has happened!! Like a lot

First, I have gotten a laptop! Yeah, a good laptop! And it was thanks to the August cohort members who decided to contribute and get me one.

Secondly, I completed the Alx Virtual Assistant Program last Sunday, mehn... It has been a struggle using my phone to multi-task, now I can practice more with my laptop.

This is my fourth month in Alx program as a software engineer, many things has happened during this period, I made great friends, broaden my knowledge on C even though it was a struggle.

I really struggled with C because I had to finish watching Tutorials before practicing with Sololearn. So happy to get a laptop.

There were days I questioned myself on the knowledge I have accumulated and if the period time for time was worth it because I felt I haven't learnt much, but I didn't allow it discourage me.

I came across a video that had the answers to most of my questions. Especially about my journey as a software engineer, I will be writing down the things I have learnt from the video and my friends who are experienced developers. They include the following:

PS: these are tips for software engineers

- Don't try to learn everything! -
- Build projects while learning
- Solve problems with your skills

Not learning Java, C++, python, C#, PHP because you saw them as a requirement for a job, rather get good at a programming, build projects with it, solve problems with that language, which will showcase that you are that good at it.

Using myself as an example, I intend to specialize as a backend engineer using python and C++. Python is a high level language which will be slow with operating systems, this is where C++, a low level language comes in.

I hope you don't find this boring lol

I have been silently following your thread since I got accepted into this program since 3 days ago. Thanks for what you. You really have answered most of the questions I have about the alx program and how it's structured.

I'll be onboarding on the 19th of September. And I really would like to network with someone like you.
Hello Dremkay
There's actually a WhatsApp group for September Cohort, join the group and from there, we can connect.

Any other info will be appreciated. Thank you.
Were you admitted for alx software engineering program or Virtual Assistant Program?

I applied for the alx VA, mine starts in the beginning of October.
I want to be prepared as much as i can.
I don't know my batch but I'm currently running the program and this is the 7th week.

We're supposed to intern and volunteer for virtual assistant tasks to people.
ProgrammingRe: My Software Engineering Journey In ALX Africa by Anonymous6o6(op): 10:47am On Aug 26, 2022
I have been stuffed with work and haven't had time to write here.

So far, we have only covered *Singly Linked lists* on data structures on C.

We're on a project called *C shell* the duration for this task is 15 days and we're supposed to work in pairs. After the C shell project, we would be going for one week break abd after resumption, we would start python.

Aside doing the project, we are required to write an article pertaining to the project. This made me recall David who got hired by Amazon. He did say one of the test given to him by the company was a project on ALX and they had to write an article on the project.

Further more, I won't be posting pictures here anymore because some people are taking ALX as a business, someone created a group on telegram, requesting for 1000 people to pay 3k per person. He promised to get them for the first four months, I don't know how he intends to do that but we recently received a message from ALX pertaining plagiarism and anyone caught will be de-enrolled and prohibited from joining the program.

I will keep posting my journey but without pictures.

Honestly, C language hasn't been easy at all
I learnt the concept of each topics but using them on ALX tasks prove rather difficult

I was frustrated, I felt like looking for a friend to go drink with and rant about it

But I had a lot of supportive friends around me who took their time to explain in details and I have been getting better at it

I recently created a WhatsApp group for September Cohort and will drop link for those who wanna join

I'm so glad to announce that many people from the August cohort chatted me up to tell me how they were scaling in the program, many of them did the tasks ahead of the D-Day it is sent.

I'm sharing it to encourage the September Cohort because nothing brings me more joy than seeing people excel after intense studying and preparation

Today was the first day of ALX August cohort

It was watching my kids go to school lol
I have been buried in work and Alx and I haven't had time to post here

Even on LinkedIn, though I have connected to a great number of people

This is third month in Alx Software engineering and my fifth week in Alx Virtual assistant program, it has been quite the experience.

C programming language hasn't been easy mehn... Especially since we got to data structures but having reached out to my friends and colleagues for help, they always provide time to explain to me. I'm seriously happy

Meanwhile, the August cohort groups are catching up pretty fast, I have a feeling that the number of dropouts will reduce!

I received a lot of heartfelt messages from the August cohorts yesterday, with gifts. Even though I didn't do much they dropped messages and gifts, it made me very happy. Not the gift but the fact that my post actually helped them.

Lately, I'm more active on LinkedIn and WhatsApp, just case you want us to connect

https:// www.linkedin. com/in/tracy-okorie-8ba64b214

Alx has frustrated on different projects but the recent printf project eh... Omo

That one is on another different level, picture playing a game, let's say COD, as a beginner you keep increasing your level, when you eventually start playing with others, you realize you're a big noob

Honestly this printf project has made me gone through hell back and forth, no jokes! The checkers felt giving errors in certain places and there was no way to confirm where the error is coming from.

I have been updating my journey on LinkedIn and connected with a lot of people. The second group for August cohort already has a lot of people, some from Nairaland and most from LinkedIn. We even had a Google meeting last year just to give a brief introduction to the program and it was really interesting.
