Agbebakun22: Hey bro will is maths strictly required because it seems I'm bad in maths and besides what language should i start with since my my programming is starting next month. With time, you will learn. Start learning in this sequence - emacs - vi - shell - git and GitHub - C Programming language (I recommend using Neso Academy on YouTube to learn C) |

This is the second week of the virtual assistant program, for each week, you're required to solve one milestone (milestones are projects done after watching tutorials videos compiled by ALX).
Week one was basically an introduction for ALX virtual assistant (VA), we were required to watch tutorials on Canvas, Slack, The ROOM fellowship and more. After which we did one milestone project, which involved self-introduction, goals and ambition.
Emphasis was made for live events because it will be attended by recruiters, mentors and many great people alike. Also, last week ended with an explanation about the ROOM fellowship, the benefits, and getting jobs in there.

Dharmie02: Hello, thanks for the update. I applied and got admitted for the programme. I will be starting on August 15th.I just pray I will be able to combine it with my work. You should be able to combine ALX VA and work but that depends on you |

coolutemper: Omo, it’s well o Will still be combining the two, I mean BA inclusive? As it is now, I think I will have to face VA, which is also starting on the same day. Perhaps after my eight weeks of training will apply for SE.
I was trying to study some of those materials, Omo no be beans o The fact is I don’t have any prior knowledge on SE
Please, don’t leave any of the groups. Those tips coming from you are really helpful. Yeah I will |

Omo Guys... It hasn't been easy for reals Only today alone, I can't count the number of people that has left the group. I'm not saying this to discourage anyone but rather to prepare you ahead. I'm been thinking of leaving social medias for a while (WhatsApp and Nairaland) but I don't know if it would be possible yet. But I will keep updating the thread. Mehn... ALX allowed us to be able to access the projects ahead of the week That means, this week's project is no joke. I'm already feeling drained, but will push through anyways. Normally the red links are projects that can be accessed.

lasgidi4rv: Hello Boss T and thanks so much for your efforts in keeping us in the loop about all things relating to the Alx Cohort. I appreciate you. Please since you are on the inside, could you find out if there will be another cohort after the Aug 15, 2022 class this year? I am interested but I am presently part of another and won't be done until Oct. Thanks. There's a possibility but the only way to know is after the August cohort commences. |

TIMIJAT: @anonymous, Do you think after you are done with this course, you'd have known enough to be a full stack devs?
Or Alx only covers the beginner/intermediate level? I don't know if I'm qualified to answer this question yet, but from David's response (An ALX student who graduated alx software engineering program in 2021 October and currently working for Amazon in London), I guess it could take you to an intermediate level but you know as a programmer, you never stop learning!! |

Gospel367: Hello bro, since you are the owner of this thread, I believe you should be the best to pass the info.
is there anyone live in central Lagos like ketu, Ikeja or so. If willing, let's team together like 4 or 5, if the person is willing, let's buy unlimited data (fibreone offers unlimited data at 11k but you need the first installation that costs 37k)...if we can be up to 4, we can foot the bill, subsequent months, spend less than 3k for unlimited...and study together till we are through
On work, we can still team together and find a part time hustle we can do in the evening to get income unless we have other jobs to do.
This is not easy but it's a sacrifice of one year. My house would have been best since I have two big rooms but it's far away in ikorodu and I doubt if fibreone gets there. ..
Any better option will be appreciated....
Sharing of resources like laptop will suffice and be helpful too This is such a great plan but I will leave volunteers in here and in group to meet you |

ajerimitan: printf("Hello \t Annonnymous" \n" ; how are you today? Congratulations to you for progressing to the next stage in your career. Once againni am an august cohort. Please exactly how much of mathematics will be needed on the career path to becoming a software engineer. For example does it go as far as the engineering further maths ; differential equations and the integrations? I am not yet on any platform or group except the ones I searched out on telegram and it has not been very interactive or responsive. Why are you not making use of telegram. Where you can post questions and assignments so we can get used to the system before hand. Besides telegram links don't usually get broken or minced along path like its watsapp counterpart. Besides telegram has unlimited number of invite along side data saving. Thank you. Yours. Good Morning The reason I didn't pick telegram is because I can't afford to be in too many social media platform. There's slack, WhatsApp, Nairaland, I just can't add to it. |

dastroud: What aspects you think? Data Structures and algorithms Side that, some of the programming languages might need you to have knowledge of maths to be able to grasp them but this is just by opinion. Don't let it get to you cause I seriously hated maths in high school but now I'm learning. |

Today's PLD, so I'm supposed to rest and calm my brain, but that I won't be doing that! Cause I have a lot to cover and go back on C.
Besides, these days I have been spending more time on leetcode, not solving problems yet but making attempts and thinking of several solutions for one problems (benefits of being in ALX, cause you're use to their methods)

dastroud: I’ve been following this thread right from the beginning and I must say I’m impressed. You draw me more to learn programming which has always been on my mind and I really want to but I get discouraged when people say you have to be good in mathematics before you can learn and I am not good in that… that’s my problem with programming Depends on the career you wanna focus on in tech, like for software engineering, you will need maths! |

Hey Guys
Today's been moving too fast! Just finished my C project but not the advance. Lately, a lot of people from my cohort are reapplying to join the August cohort. Mehn... it's been really overwhelming. Tomorrow's the DAY for eliminated, people who scored below 80% will be removed! Which is why a lot of people have been reapplying.
All C project are given 24hrs deadline and that isn't enough time considering one has to read the grasp the concept, after the first deadline, there's a second deadline but your score will be reduced from 100 to 65. Meanwhile even if you decide to copy from your colleague, it is advisable to still read and attempt the projects on your own because you will have to defend your results. From the picture below, these people are to defend their projects.
Anyways the agreement of ALX and Holberton tech school is an exciting, which is creating wider opportunities for Africans, I can't be the only one excited about the "ROOM".

Today I received several emails pertaining joining Canvas, ALG community (Will soon explain what ALG is all about), I'm yet to receive the one for Slack which others have received.
I Had to chose a time-zone while registering for canvas because Africans timezone differs. Canvas is the platform used to alx to lecture it's students. Materials are provided on the dashboard with limited time.
In today's work session, they talked about two type of ALX virtual assistant students, the normal ones and honorary ones.
The normal ones graduate with a certificate and proceeds for job opportunities.
The honorary ones are provided opportunities and connected! To be along the honorary ones, you have to always do your projects on the first milestone. After the first milestone, your grade will decrease.

Good Morning everyone Today's PLD (peer group learning), so I will make the most of it to study.
Last night was really great, I had a google meeting chatted with some of the August cohort members and it was really inspiring to see them putting efforts towards this program.
For the next google meeting, I will be bringing in one or two of my colleagues to help answer any questions you may have and also explain some of the projects.
I tried to record the session but my network kept failing me and nothing was recorded.

After attending yesterday's onboarding program, they spoke a lot about the role of a virtual assistant, the opportunities and the sponsors of the program (Master card).
Some of the graduates from the virtual assistant program were present, they spoke about the program, the "ROOM" AND how some of them are currently handling 2-3 jobs, through the program, many learnt why recruiters don't normally get back to get when they apply and how to apply for opportunities.
The modes of learning in Virtual Assistant is through Canvas, Slack, Google suite (Word processor, Presentations, and Calendar).
The Slack is a big community for sharing infos with your peers and mentors. Many things were said about the "ROOM" but will only be Access to those who graduate.
So even if you finish your projects but you refuse to peer with your colleagues when necessary, you won't graduate. A lot of events will be hosted with recruiters and mentors so it is highly suggested that you attend to avoid missing out on anything.
Canvas is the platform to access your lectures and materials. A learning mode platform for virtual assistant.
