Truly a worldclass quality project. Anambra to the world
Another angle to the project is getting an internationally renowned firm to manage this beautiful massive international airport. Government ministries should never be allowed to near the management of this great facility. Proper aviation managers should have been contacted by now. Orient petroleum should also be part of the management
ChineduAIaegbu: Biko, which area did government support came in? The opening in question, was done 3 or 4 Sundays ago. Hugeman of Radio Sapientiae was the host, Rev. Frs. played the game. Was there any government representative that day? Who is he?
Please stop quoting me, I am not here for your childish post. Grown men behaving like toddlers

The commissioner took his time to explicitly describe the beautiful Awka international conference centre. This should be the largest so far in the southern Nigeria. I don't know the size of Abuja ICC.
Rocksvibes234: Commentary: Awka City Stadium, A New Dawn In Sports Development In Anambra
It was a World Heavy Weight Boxing Champion, Evander Holyfield, who once said that the favorite part of any game is to have the opportunity to play it. And an Olympic medalist, Picabo Street, says you cannot play any game when you don’t have the wherewithal to do so.
Hence, it has always been something of an irony that for all her array of sporting talents, Anambra State does not have a standard sporting facility. From Emmanuel Ifeajuna, Nigeria’s first Commonwealth Gold Medalist; to Innocent Egbunike, the Olympic Bronze Medalist; Mary Onyali, two times Olympic Bronze Medalist; Francis Obikwelu, Olympic Silver Medalist and Uchenna Emedolu, Olympic Silver Medalist, Anambra has contributed quality athletes that brought honour to Nigeria.
And in football, Anambra’s Emmanuel Okala, who turned 70 last week, is Nigeria’s first winner of the African Footballer of the Year award. The state also parades legendary footballers like, Silvanus Okpala, Kenneth Boardman, Aloysius Atuegbu, Keneth Ilodigwe, Arthur Egbuna, Chimezie Nwanaga, Louis Igwillo, Ifeanyi Onyedika, Amaechi Otti, Okwuchukwu Obiora, Charles Okonkwo, Ikechukwu Ofoje, Obinna Nsofor, Mikel Obi, Victor Anichebe as well as the ace Commentator, Ernest Okonkwo.
It is therefore something of regret that the state has no stadium of its own. What Anambra has are some privately owned stadia, including Neros Stadium, Rojenny Sports Stadium and Gabros International Stadium now rechristened Ifeanyi Ubah Stadium. However, the facilities are not located in the state capital, Awka. They are located at Nanka, Oba and Nnewi respectively. As a fast developing capital city, Awka needs modern facilities for leisure, sports, recreation, conferences, lifestyle and business.
Gladly, Governor Willie Obiano has now built a stadium in Awka. Located in the heart of the city, few months ago, this glittering stadium, a FIFA recognized project, was a piece of abandoned land where daring herders grazed their cattle. But work has reached advanced stages on the stadium.
It was designed as a compact sporting facility with a covered stand, swanky dressing rooms, an electronic scoreboard, FIFA-standard pitch and Olympic-standard tartan tracks for sprinters. The facility was designed to accommodate future expansion possibilities and still retain a large parking space.
And so, finally, Ndi Anambra will have access to modern sporting and recreational facilities that will boost their hopes for an improved lifestyle and reduce the pressure on Alex Ekwueme Square, which was not conceived as a facility for sports but has been converted to one by expediency.
The new Awka Stadium will further deepen development of football in the state. It will equally keep our youth busy positively because an idle mind is always a devil’s workshop. Once again, Governor Willie Obiano has left an indelible footprint in an area where it matters a lot…Sports, just as he did in aviation industry by constructing a magnificent Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport. Work is equally at advanced stage at the International Conference Centre, Agu Awka. No wonder an analyst once said that Akpokuedike is South East best governor in history. Imagine giving Anambra all its first basic and social amenities and legacy projects in seven years.
It would be recalled that the governor had, ahead of the completion of the stadium complex, announced formation of men and women football teams for the state to be called ‘Anambra Bombers and Anambra Babes’ respectively to represent the state in national and international competitions.
Furthermore, Anambra had launched the Anambra Football Campaign, to canvass grassroots support for football advancement in the state. Meanwhile, the FIFA licensed contractor handling the construction of the Awka Township Stadium has assured that the stadium would, on completion, be the best mini stadium in sub-saharan Africa. The construction of the stadium is in three phases. The first phase addressed important facilities like track and field, dressing rooms, terraces, changing rooms and the general aesthetics of the stadium. The second phase addressed areas such as the Governor’s Lounge, cubicles for fans and press conference room. The third and final phase, which required temporal closure of the stadium for about six months, handled complete covering of the pavilions. Bravo Akpokuedike!
Alot of talents would be harnessed through this facility
Ndi Anambra Should Come Home And Invest...Anambra Chambers Of Commerce
By Ejike Abana (ABS Government House Correspondent)
Members of Anambra Chambers of Commerce have called on owners and operators of businesses all over the world, to always think of Anambra as a top investment destination.
The three City Chambers comprising of Awka, Nnewi and Onitsha, stated this when they embarked on inspection visit to the ongoing Anambra Passenger and Cargo Airport, Umueri.
Speaking, the President Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, Sir Chris Ukachukwu, with the airport in place at the center, with its three entry points, it has given birth to a new beginning in Anambra, especially with its cargo element which will be so beneficial to traders.
Sir Ukachukwu who commended the governor for building such legacy project, said that a great percentage of ndi Anambra are business inclined, as such, the airport will immensely boost the state economy, pioneered mostly by traders.
While describing the airport as compliant to international standard, the president expressed optimism that it will be commissioned in record time.
Speaking at Aguleri, the Presidents of Nnewi and Awka Chambers of Commerce, Prince Jude Osumuoh and Pastor Stephen Nduaguba, the airport will service everyone across political lines, assuring that business people will key into investing in the opportunities made avaliable by the existence of the airport.
Governor Obiano who hinted that he has patronised Innoson Vehicles in fabrications, said that plenty of opportunities will be offered in the airport, ranging from establishment of businesses, asking people to come and explore those investment opportunities.
Mr. Don Onyenji among others who gave the vote of thanks, applauded the project.
The event ended with a question and answer session.
House Of Representatives Member, Honourable Ferdinand Dozie Nwankwo Endorses Professor Charles Soludo’s Political Ambition
By Joseph Egbeocha (ABS News)
The member representing Njikoka, Anaocha and Dunukofia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Honourable Ferdinand Dozie Nwankwo, today, 23rd May 2021, endorsed Professor Charles Soludo’s political ambition in Anambra State.
The endorsement, which took place at an event hosted by Honourable Nwankwo in his Enugwu-Ukwu home in Njikoka Local Government Area, is in honor of Professor Soludo, as he continues garnering support for his political ambition in the State.
In their separate remarks, the APGA Chairman, Elder Charles Okongwu, a Party stakeholder in Njikoka Local Government Area, Dr. Jude Akpua, as well as the Anambra Central Co-ordinator of Soludo Support Group, Comrade Ochije Muodili, called on APGA faithful in the area to sustain grassroot mobilisation to ensure resounding success for Professor Soludo's political ambition, especially APGA in general elections.
The host, Honourable Nwankwo, who noted that the choice of Professor Soludo was because he has what it takes to consolidate on the gains of the Obiano administration in the State, urged party faithful to give him maximum support.
Reacting, Professor Soludo, who thanked all for their continued support, promised to continue on the strong footprints of the Obiano administration, describing Anambra as APGA State.
Former and present members of the National and State Legislature, including Senator that represented Anambra Central Senatorial District, Senator Victor Umeh, member representing Anambra East and West Federal Constituency Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Honourable Chinedu Obodigwe, Anambra State House of Assembly member representing Njikoka Two Constituency, Honourable Pete Ibida, MD/CEO of Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Chief Dr. Uche Nworah, Senator Victor Umeh, Traditional rulers, including the Traditional ruler of Enugwu-Ukwu, Igwe Ralph Ekpeh, among other dignitaries, attended the event.
In his inaugural address in 2014, Governor Willie Obiano had declared that the time had come to remind ourselves that “a people who astonished the world with their ingenuity and resourcefulness in wartime can lend a hand to remake our world in peace-time.” This statement has woken up the entrepreneurial spirit of the people and today, Obiano’s vision has been validated by the number of new businesses springing up across the state.
Governments all over the world are not often rated by how many factories they establish but how well they have enabled the private sector to establish factories. Governor Obiano has done well in this regard by creating an enabling environment for factories to thrive in Anambra State. One of his earliest steps on assumption of office was to hold a ‘Business Roundtable’ with entrepreneurs of Anambra extraction.
It was at that gathering that the Aku Luo Uno philosophy was birthed. Governor Obiano gave the entrepreneurs at the meeting two assurances; that he would clean up Anambra and make it safe for investors and that he would work hard to improve electricity supply in the state. Seven years down the lane, Obiano has kept his promises.
Governor Obiano was mindful when he declared that roads leading to industrial clusters and agricultural settlements would be given priority attention. The need to give a backbone to the industrial landscape eventually led to the establishment of Anambra Small Business Agency, ASBA. The agency has played a big midwifery role in the emergence of industrial clusters.
The Shoe Making Cluster at Nkwelle Ezunaka is the crown jewel of Obiano’s industrial drive. The cluster currently exports Made-in-Anambra shoes and other foot wears. The success of the Shoe Making Cluster has led to the setting up of a Clothing and Textile Cluster in the same location. The Agency has also been responsible for the sprouting of many Small and Medium Scale Industries in the state like the Anambra Rice and several other small businesses.
Indeed, since the creation of Anambra State, no governor has invested so much in electricity supply as Governor Willie Obiano. Obiano believes that without electricity, his Industrialization policy would be dead on arrival. In this regard, from Oji River in Enugu State, the administration ensured the installation of a 33kv line to supply power to Orumba North and South.
It benefitted 31 communities. This particular initiative was so transcendental that Isuochi Community in Abia State had to send a delegation to specially thank the governor for giving it a rare access to electricity.
Another 33kv line was extended to Anambra North Senatorial zone which benefitted many communities too. And yet another 33kv line was extended from Otuocha to Nkpunando community. It brought electricity to so many communities that had no access to power supply in their entire existence.
The administration has also installed another 33kv line from Awada through Idemili to Nnewi to improve power supply in 43 communities. This is a priority line because of the heavy industrial activities in the area it covers. Another 33kv line has also been installed from Ogborji in Orumba North to Peters University in Aguata.
As a further reinforcement, 400 transformers have been distributed to several communities in Anambra State to strengthen electricity supply in rural and urban areas.
Meanwhile, the administration has also signed an MOU with the Transmission Company of Nigeria to build 6 Transmitters in Anambra State, covering Nnewi, Onitsha, Aguleri, Umuchu and Ogidi/Ogbunike. When fully operational, these transmitters will change the electricity supply situation in Anambra State for good. These efforts are expected to give industrialists and would be manufacturers in Anambra State big elbowroom to operate from.
Indeed, Governor Obiano has remained a champion of ‘Made In Anambra’ goods and services. He ensured that the Government of Anambra State is one of the biggest patronizers of Innoson Vehicles, Coscharis Farms and several others. This has served as a tonic to many prospective investors and entrepreneurs who now throng Anambra to take advantage of the emerging investment safe haven.
ChimaAdeoye: The problem with the mentality of a typical Nigerian above of killing or be killed is due to many years of living under Fulani engineered feudal system. A system that does not believe in coexistence. It's either you die and I live, or I die and you'll live. It never even crosses their mind that there is steady population growth in Asaba, in Nnewi, In Ihiala, Awka, Aguleri etc! This new population will need quick access to air services in airports that are not chaotically jam-packed and inefficient like the current Lagos airport. Nigeria is projected to reach about 450 million by 2050, which is less than 29 years away! That will be one and half times greater than the present US population.
The US even at 300 million people, you cannot compare even their least busy international airport in Charlotte, North Carolina, to Lagos or Abuja airports. This airport is still busier than Lagos or Abuja! Not to mention that it has 3 active runways. Between West Palm Beach - Fort Lauderdale -Miami, there are more than 5 international airports and each of these has more than 3 runways to cope. I have said all these so that you guys can understand that the tiny international airports we have in Nigeria are in fact insufficient to support economic growth in a country of more than 200 million people. Talk more when our population hits 450 million people.
Now apart from huge airports like New York's JFK, Los Angeles, Miami, Boston international airports, a typical American international hub has between 4 -8 active runways. Nigeria can never build such types of airports. Nor do we have the landmass or technology to run them.
In our clime, the best approach is to build one or two-runway international airports and manage them by the flights that go to each. One day, the fake Nigerian federal structure used to stifle economic development in Nigeria will fall apart and people will develop their own region based on need. You simply don't have the land for that type of massive airport facility seen abroad. So we have to build small manageable international airports at Asaba, Umueri, Enugu, etc, and manage the flights that go to each location. Of course, some will be busier than others depending on how large they are able to take many flights and planes at the same time.
Besides, the way our people see land, if you say the total landmass of Anambra state should be used for just one airport with 5 runways, everybody will scream. Even one runway was difficult to find enough land to make sure it was comfortably up to 3.7 KM runway and 1KM RESA at both ends!
That is why there will eventually be another international airport in Orlu in the future and another one at Elele or Isiokpo. That is the only way we can eventually meet the aviation needs of an economy serving even 80 million people living in a tight high-density area where land is a very scarce resource. A model of having multiple medium international airports is the only way it can be done to meet the aviation needs of our people. Those huge aviation hubs we see abroad like in the pictures below, require such vast amounts of land and very high technology to operate that we simply lack both.
Anambra Airport interior
The 3-D is elegant and cool. My happiness Is that they are sticking to the details in the implementation
globemoney01: Yes this is the single biggest project in the SE and by any SE government since 99 and yes its worth more than Hero brewery you illiterate. The Second Niger bridge is a SE/SS project. just shut up.
IGBOSON1: It shows how lacking in confidence you are that you obsess about the negative, prejudiced and daft comments of some pokenosing amebo! Fool said your people are 'backward' and you didn't slap his eyes out of their sockets!?
You say he's non-Igbo? So what's his ethnicity then...or he didn't tell you? Tell him to get a life and stop clicking on Igbo or Anambra threads/videos if he can't stand the fact we're 'over excited' as he stupidly puts it!
You are apt. Sincerely I don't know how some people think. Ignoring these inconsequential trolls remains the best for my sanity
MysteryShopper: Stop spewing nonsense. Yes Anambra international airport is not a small project. Building an airport from the scratch: terminal building, tower building, 3.7km runway, fire building, 6- lanes airport roads, etc, all at ones is not a child's play. Show us one airport built by any state government in Nigeria that matches Anambra international airport in sophistication and beauty.
Ask that your friend to show us the one built by his state government, lets compare notes.
We don't care what you miscreants from other states thinks, but the fact is that this singular airport is the single biggest project in southeast since 1999. So we have to rejoice, if you don't like it, then take a hike.
JohnBullMySon: Ok, thanks for the correction. I decided to make some research and enquires. Anambra has already been recognized as an Oil producing state since 2018 nah? The issue Obiano had with the SEEPCO has to do with illegalities and environmental neglect. The question is, does the Anambra government receive the 13% from profits? Oil producing state status does not put any food on the table. If it's being paid, then what is the complaint about?
It was a fruitful meeting with Nigeria's Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, earlier today.
As a State endowed with huge deposits of petroleum resources, my administration is taking all the necessary steps to ensure that we get our due considerations as an Oil Producing State..
JohnBullMySon: Please I have few questions for you. First of all I know it takes nothing from the federal government to acknowledge a place as oil producing state but there are things to be done.
At what stage is the oil exploration? has the companies in question converted to OML from OPL? Any pipeline infrastructure in place yet? How much commercial quantity has been found, that will justify the investment? Why did orient pull out for the Indian companies? There are definitely going to be bottlenecks hindering progress there.
Even the federal government usually pressures licensees to begin production and generate money. At the moment we're aiming to generate close to 600000 barrels additionally. So why will Petroleum Resources now refuse license?
You people need to calm down and check before reacting emotionally, no be everything be marginalization.
You obviously out of touch with happenings in Anambra. Orient petroleum is based in Otuocha/Aguleri axis where they are drilling oil, that was why the 1st & 2nd Oil Rig bridges were constructed to ease their operations there.
Sterling company of India is operating at Ogbaru near Onitsha. Otuocha and Ogbaru are two different locations where oil have been struck in commercial quantity in Anambra.
There's no longer prospecting of oil in Anambra, what's being done now is producing as they have passed the stage of prospecting.
There's oil in huge commercial quantities in Anambra, at least in those two locations I highlighted up there.
What's holding Anambra from becoming an oil producing state is just federal government bureaucracy because oil is being drilled out of Anambra on daily basis in commercial quantities.
These are pictures of the ongoing work inside the terminal building as of yesterday. They are covering the steel structures/pillars. Excellent finishing works
