May 2024, Dangote plans to supply petrol The $20 billion Dangote Refinery has concluded plans to begin supply of petrol to Nigeria’s domestic market from May 2024. Nigeria had depended almost 100 per cent on imported petrol to meet demand. The Dangote’s refinery will produce 99 million liters (26.2 million gallons) of gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and kerosene per day. Meanwhile, the price of Automotive Gas Oil, AGO, popularly known as diesel, has dropped by 20.6 per cent to N1,350 per litre in April 2024, from N1,700 per litre in March 2024, as the Refinery pumps more supplies to the market. Nigeria’s inflation and foreign exchange crisis had pushed the prices of the product, which was mostly imported from the global market to about N1,700 per litre in most parts of the nation, including Lagos and Abuja. Checks by Vanguard, yesterday, indicated that the price started to drop following the awareness that Dangote Petroleum Refinery has pegged its price at N1,225/litre. Reacting to the development, the Chief Executive officer, Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise, CPPE, Dr. Muda Yusuf, said: “This is a good development that we are waiting for, we are hoping it will help bring down the cost of diesel and reduce the pressure on the nations’ Foreign Exchange because the importation of consuming products is consuming about 30 percent of our foreign exchange.” “If we are able to take advantage of the Dangote refinery to reduce our consuming products, it will go a long way in easing the country’s foreign exchange crisis. However, the macro-economic impact that it will have across all sectors”. Source: https://antfly.ng/may-2024-dangote-plans-to-supply-petrol/

Nigerian fast rising siner, OdumoduBlvck has stated reasons why the Super Eagles of Nigeria, lost the AFCON 2023 title. OdumoduBlvck pointed out Ivorian and Dortmund player Sebastian Haller, who played a significant role in Ivory Coast’s journey in the AFCON 2023 tournament. He stated that the entire tournament seemed destined to honor and celebrate Haller who battled testicular cancer in 2022 and made a successful return to professional football in January 2023. Haller scored the decisive goal for Ivory Coast in the AFCON 2023 final against Nigeria, securing Ivory Coast’s third AFCON title. OdumoduBlvck views this outcome as a reflection of fate and a way for the universe to acknowledge Sebastian Haller’s triumph over cancer. “The reason Nigeria lost the cup is because we were never meant to win it. There’s a player called Sebastine Haller for Ivory Coast, he suffered testicular cancer, he played nothing in that match but he was the one that scored the winning goal,” he said in part. The conjoined twins who became well-known on TLC’s “Abby & Brittany,” Abby Hensel, gets married to fiance, Josh Bowling at age 34. The father of one who had served in the US Army and his fiancee, Abby got married in a private ceremony. The dicephalic (conjoined at the torso and sharing some organs) Hensel twins work as fifth-grade teachers in their native Minnesota. Because of the high-risk nature of the surgery, their parents, Patty, and Mike Hensel, had decided against separating them from birth. The wedding ceremony’s specifics are yet unknown, but a picture that has been making the rounds on social media features Josh standing next to Brittany and Abby in a suit and both wearing bridal gowns. Additionally, a video of Abby Hensel dancing as a couple went viral online. Despite not being recent, many fans are surprised by this news because the twins have generally avoided the spotlight in recent years. Their calm existence appears to be a reflection of the principles their parents taught them, which include the need to preserve their privacy while pursuing one’s goals.

FG shuts KFC for humiliation to the son of a former state governor The Federal Government of Nigeria shuts down KFC outlets for humiliations given to the son of former state governor. This move came less than a day after the airport branch of the fast-food restaurant allegedly humiliated a wheelchair user, Adebola Daniel, the son of former Ogun State Governor, Gbenga Daniel. Sharing his experience, on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, Daniel said he was “made to feel “less than human” because of his disability. He said while passing the time alongside his wife and siblings, at the restaurant ahead of his flight, a manager of the restaurant told him to leave the premises because “No wheelchairs allowed.” “To be disabled in Nigeria is to be undesirable, unwelcome and unaccepted. As I’ve said before, it’s a lonely, scary and isolated place. Never has this been more true than it has ever been today where I faced the worst sort of public humiliation that I have ever experienced. To think that this happened at an international brand, KFC at an international airport – Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos – is unthinkable,” he said. Reacting, the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, posted a statement via his official X handle on Thursday, March 28, 2024, announcing that the restaurant has been shut down. According to the statement signed by Obiageli Orah, the law clearly states, “A person shall not deprive another person of access to any place, vehicle, or facility that members of the public are entitled to enter or use on the basis of the disability of that person.“ To confirm the allegations, FAAN’s MD/CE, Olubunmi Kuku assembled a team to investigate the ex-governor’s son’s claims. The team included other officials of the agency such as the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, and the Regional Manager South West, Sunday Ayodele, among others. Following the investigation, FAAN said the allegations were confirmed to be true and the agency proceeded to close the KFC facility. As part of the corrective measures, KFC management has been instructed to issue a written apology to the affected individual and to publicly display a policy statement of non-discrimination at their facility. This statement must be visibly placed at the entrance of the KFC outlet at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport before the establishment is allowed to resume operations. source: http://antfly.ng/fg-shuts-kfc-for-humiliation-to-the-son-of-a-former-state-governor/

FG of Nigeria hunts for solution to end hardship The federal government of Nigeria, in Tinubu’s regime are really in a search for a final solution to end the economical hardship faced in the country. DANIEL AYANTOYE reported; as the cost of goods and services continues to soar following the removal of fuel subsidy, the government has introduced various initiatives that have proved to be incapable of solving the challenge of the current inflationary trend. Nigerians have continued to wonder why the economic troubles in the country have been persistent despite different measures being put in place to tackle the current economic challenges. Some have also insisted that the country’s economy has been stagnated by the continuous selection of mediocre persons who were said to be incapable of helping to resuscitate Nigeria’s current economic woes. It is a fact that a country’s economy is the oxygen which it breathes. This can be corroborated by the words of a British politician, David Cameron, who puts it this way: “An economy is the start and end of everything. You cannot have successful education reform or any other reform if you do not have a strong economy.” This translates to how essential a nation’s economy is and how it holistically affects the country’s growth. Since the emergence of President Bola Tinubu on May 29, which followed an immediate and unexpected removal of fuel subsidy, Nigerians have been thrown into unprecedented hardship, with the price of food items and other commodities increasing almost daily. The naira on recently hit N1,900 to a dollar at the parallel market, while at the official market, the naira stood at N1,551.24 to a dollar. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, as of May 2023, the headline inflation rate was 22.41% but it increased and hit a 27-year high as headline inflation rose to 28.9 per cent in December. However, the National Bureau of Statistics, in its Consumer Price Index published Thursday, revealed that the inflation rate climbed to 29.90 per cent in January 2024, while food prices have continued to increase without end, with costs of essential goods hitting three times high in the market. For instance, it was gathered that one of the most consumed foods in Nigeria; rice, which used to sell for between N45,000 and N50,000 in November, now costs over N70,000, while noodles formerly sold for between N1,900 and N2,000 now sell for N7,000 to N7,800 in Lagos. Also, garri, which was one of the cheapest foods before and was sold for N800 for a paint bucket, is now sold for N2,500. While a bag of beans, which was sold for between N22,000 and N25,000, now sells for between N75,000 and N80,000. In the same vein, the cost of transportation has astronomically increased as fares at most destinations have tripled since the removal of the petrol subsidy. The price of petrol currently sells between N600 and N650 per litre depending on the filling station. This was before the price increased from N195 per litre. According to the NBS, the average cost of bus transportation within Nigerian cities rose from N649.59 in May 2023 to N1,285.41 in June 2023 as the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit significantly rose. The biting economic hardship forced many Nigerians to take to the streets in some cities across the country, protesting against the economic downturn. Protests had broken out in different parts of the country in reaction to the high cost of living, with citizens in Niger, Kano, Kogi, Ondo, and Oyo, among other states demanding solutions to the economic crisis. Again, The Nigeria Customs Service recently announced the suspension of the sale of foodstuffs following a stampede that reportedly killed seven persons at the NCS Old Zonal Headquarters in the Yaba area of Lagos State. With this, the attempt by the government to find a quick solution to hunger and hardship was stopped. This was as the National Executive Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to implement the October 2, 2023, agreement and address the mounting cost of living crisis in the country. The NLC also declared a two-day national protest on February 27 and 28 to register their outrage at the frightening level of hardship and lingering security challenges. Although this was not the first time the Organised Labour had threatened a strike since the removal of the subsidy, it did the same, which was planned to commence on August 2, 2023, but was cancelled after President Bola Tinubu rolled out a list of plans to ease the hardship in a nationwide protest on July 31. Efforts of the government In the broadcast, the President said his government had saved over N1tn within two months of ending the petrol subsidy regime while listing several initiatives to cushion the hardship. The President said his administration would invest N50bn each to cultivate 150 hectares of rice and maize; N50bn each would be earmarked to cultivate 100,000 hectares of wheat and cassava; invest N100bn on or before March 2024 to acquire 3,000 units of 20-seater CNG-fueled buses; collaborate with the labour unions to introduce a new minimum wage for workers; 75 manufacturing enterprises will be able to access N1bn credit at 9% per annum; and to energise the micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises with N125bn. Others are N50bn on a conditional grant to one million Nano businesses before March 2024; to fund 100,000 MSMEs and start-ups with N75bn; each enterprise promoter to get between N500,000 and N1m in loans at a nine per cent interest rate per annum; to provide 225,000 metric tonnes of fertilizer, seedlings, and other inputs to farmers; and to order the release of 200,000 metric tonnes of grains from strategic reserves to households at moderate prices.” In line with promises, in August, the Federal Government approved N5bn as a conditional cash transfer palliative to 15 million households for each state and the Federal Capital Territory. The monthly federal allocation to states was also increased to almost double what was received in the past after the subsidy removal. In January 2024, the President ordered the distribution of palliative items worth N200m to senators and Rep members for onward distribution to their constituencies. In February, Tinubu directed the release of more than 102,000 metric tonnes of various grain types from the National Food Reserve and the Rice Millers Association of Nigeria. Also, in February, the Bank of Industry revealed that it would be disbursing three categories of funding totaling N200bn to support manufacturers and businesses across the country. CSOs, experts react Despite the efforts of the government, civil society organisations and stakeholders have argued that no positive results have been achieved as the hardship in the country worsens daily. Speaking on the matter, the Chairman of the Rivers State Civil Society Organisation, Enefa Georgewill, said, “If government policy is yielding positive results, we would have been seeing signs of it. Rather, what we are seeing is that things are getting worse; people are getting poorer, and people are getting hungrier. Companies are also collapsing. We are not seeing any visible signs that things will get better because they are getting worse by the day.” He criticised the APC governments under Buhari and Tinubu, describing them as “directionless.” According to him, it is a wrong decision to remove the petrol subsidy in a country that cannot provide a stable electricity supply. Petrol and other related products are the energy life wire of Nigeria and that is why, immediately after they removed the subsidy on petrol, they increased the cost of everything in the country. And what is happening is a reflection of what we said before.” He stated further that the subsidy removal policy had only succeeded in inflicting more hardship on the people, saying it had “made Nigeria poorer and disempowered. And until it is reverted, we are going to go down deeper in the poverty line. Georgewill, however, wants the Federal Government to invest “heavily” in energy to ensure it is sustainable. According to him, if Dangote could say about 30 per cent of their production cost is consumed by energy, one can imagine what small enterprises are confronted with. He also enjoined the Tinubu-led government to invest in agriculture for food security. He added, “It is a shame that Nigeria cannot utilise its arable lands to feed itself and boost the economy and we are saying that the Federal Government should immediately declare a state of emergency on agriculture so that there would be food sufficiency.” Source: http://antfly.ng/2024/03/18/fg-of-nigeria-hunts-for-solution-to-end-hardship/

Government of Lagos State begins 57 food Markets Following the announcement by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu that the “Ounje Eko” food markets will begin sales of food items at discounted prices in the five divisions of the state on Sunday, March 17, Lagosians may flood the various locations to buy food items at friend prices. Sanwo-Olu had stated that the food markets would operate exclusively on Sundays from 11am to 4pm across 57 locations in the state. The governor, who disclosed this during a live media chat on February 22, said the ‘Sunday Markets’ initiative was aimed at cushioning the effect of the high cost of living in the country. In a statement on Friday, the state Commissioner, Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, announced the commencement of the initiative, noting that the markets would offer Lagosians a 25 per cent discount on staple food items like rice, beans, garri, bread, eggs, tomatoes, and pepper. The statement partly read, “In order to prevent sharp practices and ensure the foodstuff reaches a large number of Lagosians, a voucher system will be introduced as the pilot scheme kicks off. “Independent payment solution providers and food vendors have been identified and carefully selected to operate the process. They will also provide real-time data on the exercise for monitoring.” Infographics provided by the commissioner revealed that the markets would be opened at 27 locations in Ikeja, six in Lagos Island, nine in Ikorodu, five in Epe, and 10 in Badagry. It also provided the prices of the food items. A 5kg bag of rice would sell for N5,325 while 1kg would cost N1,065; a 5kg bag of beans would sell for N6,225 while 1kg would be sold for N1,245. Also, 5kg of garri would be sold for N3,975 while 1kg would be sold for N795. Other food items include 2 kg of tomatoes for N1,800; 1kg of tatashe for N1,275; 1kg of atarodo for N1,875; 1kg of onions for N450; one loaf of bread for N750; two loaves of bread for N1,500; and one crate of eggs for N2,700. Some of the discounted markets are, Agege LGA: Dairy Farm Secondary School, Orile-Agege LCDA: Saka Tinubu Memorial School, Orile Agege, Ajeromi-Ifelodun: AFRICAN Primary School (close to the Secretariat), Ikorodu LGA: Ikorodu Grammar School, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA: Zumuratu Islamiya Grammar School, Igbogbo, Ijede LCDA: Luwasa Junior High School, Ijede. Kosofe LGA: St. Emmanuel Primary School, Ogudu and Ikosi Isheri LCDA: Ikosi High School, Ketu. The markets were zoned under Ikeja, Ikorodu, Badagary and Epe areas. Expressing excitement at the development, a Lagos resident, Mr Sunday Akurulo speaking to our correspondent on the “Ounje Eko” food market sales starting on Sunday appreciated the governor, but however is expressed doubt on how long the initiative would last. Akurulo, who is married with three kids resides in Dairo Street, Ikosi Ketu, said he would send his wife to the location in the area, Ikosi High School, to know if it is true what the government has promised. “Governor Sanwo-Olu is a nice man, but I am not sure the government can keep up the good gesture. My wife will go to the market tomorrow (Sunday). At least lets enjoy it while it lasts. Another resident, Mrs Patricia Ugorji, who is a single mother of two, and resides in the same Ikosi, said she might not visit the market because it would be congested. The 35 years-old teacher said, “You know things like this always cause casualties, just like the rice sales at the Navy dockyard where people lost their lives and no one cared. I will rather continue to pray to God to provide for me than go and risk my life and time there.” However, another Lagos resident and mother of one, Eberechi Dike, said she was aware of the Lagos Food Discount market, but owing to her current financial situation she might not visit the market on today (Sunday). “It depends on how I wake up. I don’t have money anywhere now to buy any foodstuffs even though I need them. I will try next weekend and I hope by then it won’t be too crowded.” But Mrs Abosede Odunayo, described the initiative as a welcome development, explaining that she would take advantage of it and stock her home with food items. “This is a welcome development. I will be at the one (discounted food market) near to me to buy food items. I am always afraid when it is time to buy foodstuffs because of their high prices. This time around, I believe I will smile home after my time at one of the markets,” Mrs Odunayo stressed. Source: http://antfly.ng/2024/03/17/government-of-lagos-state-begins-57-food-markets/ |

In a podcast with their son, the Odongs spoke of how they couldn’t turn their back on Andrew because of his sexuality. If that is what you are” Speaking, his mum said she knows that her son being gay doesn’t imply that he is ill or that he would die. ‘’It’s just love. I can’t see myself dumping my child for love.
