[color=#000000]The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, His Excellency Mr. Paul Thomas Arkwright (CMG) has visited the Federal University Lokoja and delivered a Public Lecture entitled "Brexit: Lessons, Challenges and Opportunities for Nigeria. The lecture which took place yesterday at the University Auditorium witnessed large turnout of staff and students who were present to gain knowledge from the presentation. The UK Envoy said Nigeria will benefit from Brexit as Britain would support Nigeria in the areas of education and business development. He assured that Brexit will not hurt relations with Nigeria. Highlights of the event include interactive session, presentation of Award to the High Commissioner and group photographs. Earlier, Mr. Arkwright paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Angela Freeman Miri in her office at the Adankolo Campus. Prof. Miri thanked the British High Commissioner for choosing the University to deliver the lecture. The High Commissioner also paid a courtesy call on the Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello at the Government House in Lokoja to discuss possible business/investment opportunities. As part of his visit, Mr. Arkwright and his team embarked on sightseeing of some mouments around Lokoja Metropolis. Additional Information: What does Brexit mean? Brexit is a word that has become used as a shorthand way of saying the UK leaving the EU - merging the words Britain and exit to get Brexit, in a same way as a possible Greek exit from the euro was dubbed Grexit in the past. Why is Britain leaving the European Union? A referendum - a vote in which everyone (or nearly everyone) of voting age can take part - was held on Thursday 23 June, 2016, to decide whether the UK should leave or remain in the European Union. Leave won by 51.9% to 48.1%. The referendum turnout was 71.8%, with more than 30 million people voting. My name is Anaele Anthony Chukwuebuka, am a newly admitted student in Imo State University (IMSU). Am dropping the below experiences i had as a new student in Imo State University which you may also learn from 1. Coming To School Late Attracts Sitting At The Back/Standing Lol, this is always in every institutions in Nigeria. You would see some students who came late sitting at the back and some standing, the most agitative one is standing while lectures are going on, lol, you would be feeling very unconfortable especially when the lecturer is busy dictating. Sometimes when questions are being asked, you may answer but the lecturer might not be able to hear you very well by which he/she would like you to repeat your answers and all eyes would be on you. 2. You Must Be A Fast Writer It’s very unfortunate that the male students are most of the slow writers. You know as a university student, you have to be very fast and accurate in writing. Lecturers do not write on the board unlike in secondary schools, what the lecturer does is only to teach and dictate, if you are not fast in writing, my brother you are on your own. Lol, i do laugh when when some students shout “Ma/sir what did you say?, please repeat”. Lol, it is mostly seen in the male students. 3. Leave The Previous Lecture Hall And Rush To The Next Lecture Hall As Soon As The Lecturer Is Done Lol, this is very amazing!. If you are not smart enough to move to the nexrt lecture hall, my brother you would be amazed to see that your fellow students have already occupied the seats and there would be no more vacancy until lecture is over. There was one day we were attending lectures @ old law block, everyone was rushing inside to get where to sit on. I rushed to grab a vacant but the girl sitting behind was like “chai, where is that my friend i reserved this space for?” she said “someone is sitting here” and i was like “what is my business? Was anyone sitting here when i came?”. Lol, the girl was like “oboy this guy is very serious ooo” 4. If You Don’t Have Your Departmental Time-table, You Would Miss Your Lecture Hall Lol, this sounds very funny and sometimes very irritating when you lecture hall for a prticular day. Even if you ask some old and new students in campus where your department are having lectures, lol they would only tell you “i don’t know, but just go like this, like that”. The first day i came to school, one guy missed where his course mates were having lectures, lol, the guy was just walking around the campus like mumu. I asked him “guy this one you just dey waka round the campus like person wey lost his spair keys, wetin happen” he told me that he has been looking for where his course mates are having lectures, and i was like “follow us and learn nah since you haven’t seen them”. Lol, and the guy immediately followed us ooo. 5. You Must Buy The Lecturers’ Handouts Lol, the first day we came, what our lecturers told us was that if we don’t buy their textbooks, we would not see our result, and i was like “Jeeessss”. Lol, school is sweet and stressful. SOURCE: www.dailyschoolgist.com.ng/2017/02/5-experiences-new-student-imo-state-university-imsu/ |

Upon starting up a brand new semester, every college student is given a fresh opportunity to re-evaluate his or her short- and long-term academic goals. Figuring out what you want to achieve and how you will go about it is no walk in the park, but in her book, 100% Student Success, Third Edition, Gwenn Wilson explains just why buckling down and setting academic goals is so important for university students. Goal setting is an important part of succeeding in college. By setting goals, you accomplish the following: You set a ‘road map’ for where you want to go. You are able to select the most appropriate method(s) for reaching your goal. You are able to more easily gauge your progress toward your goal. You are able to make adjustments to your goal and methods as needed. You know when you have reached your goal and can appreciate your accomplishment. (7) Students can prioritize their academic goals based on both importance levels as well as timeliness of the projected end- dates. Some goals will be immediate tasks that must be accomplished within the next month. Other goals will be short-range of six months to a year, while others are long term and taking more than a year to accomplish. Set goals for the grades you want to earn in your classes and then work out a plan for how you will achieve those grades. Your plans will include study time spent each week, a plan for getting assignments in on time, and making time for tutoring sessions in classes where you need extra help.” We’ve summarized them below: Set goals based on something that is very important to you! State goals positively. “I will study every night for two hours before doing other tasks” is more positive than “I won’t do other tasks in the evening before studying.” Be as specific as possible. A goal should tell you what you will achieve, describe the conditions, and provide a time frame. Set your goals high enough to be challenging but reasonable enough to achieve. State your goals in writing and keep them out where you can see to remind and motivate you. Telling others about your goals can also help. Focus on personal performance verses strictly outcomes. Outcomes can ultimately be affected by circumstances that are beyond your control, but performance is all up to you. For example, a fitness goal to go to the gym five times per week is more productive than a goal to lose five pounds per week. You can control your performance but not necessarily how quickly your body will react. (7- ![]() When you do successfully complete one of your goals, remember to reward your accomplishments and re-evaluate your opportunities for setting new goals! In our Nigerian institutions today, most students are not even aware that they are there to learn. But today, i will list annd explain fully 4 tips and guidlines that will help you succeed academically. These tips are arranged accordingly and should also be followed accordingly if you really want to see yourself improving academically. 1.Buy TextBooks:- I am listing this as number one because without it, i don't think you can succeed academically, i call it the root of knowledge. Sometimes, it's very unfortunate that our youths ignore buying textbooks/handouts, they are only interested in buying cloths, shoes, lip sticks, sprays, weavons, etc just to impress their opposite sex. Sometimes, this is being caused by ignorance, pride and lack of advice from parents? It is actually good to look good but try to spend most of the money on textbooks/handouts. On the other hand, you would see and hear some of them saying and complaining that they do not have money to buy textbooks, but they normally buy cloths and shoes. This is very annoying and unencouraging, tomorrow the blame would be put on the innocent parents who do not even know what their children are doing in school. 2. Read Very Harder :- in this category, some students do have textbooks but do not even read them, if you go to some lodges/hostels of our Nigerian universities, you would see some useful textbooks/handouts being used as toilet papers. This category is common in every institution. Please students, read your books, do not forget that it is part of your knowledge, without it you cannot pass any examination. Read constantly, your parents who gives you money for textbooks/handouts are not fools, they want your success, your success in your academics is their concern. 3. Avoid Girls :- Yes, i said you should avoid girls because most of them would CONTINUE READING @ http://dailyschoolgist.com.ng/4-important-things-that-would-help-you-succeed-in-your-academics |

Post Author: Anaele Anthony Chukwuebuka (AnthonyD'great) In Our Nigerian Institutions Today, we have alot of good girl friends and a alot of bad girl friends. Girls are precious gift to men, while men are the pillars of the family. Good girl friends are very hard to discover, they are difficult to have, they are always humble, courageous, caring, trusthworthy, etc. The following are the most six ways to discover a good girl friend; 1. She Speaks For You Whenever You Are In Trouble : Yes!, she speaks for you when your colleagues in school begin to maltreat you. She's always eager to defend you anywhere even when others say things against you. 2. She's Always Angry Whenever A Lecturer Shouts At You : Some lecturers are very harsh that they do not tolerate any rubbish especially whenever a student wants to go out to make a call while lecture is going on. He might shout at you and say "hey you fool go and sit down before i kick the hell out of you!". Whenever such happens, the girl who loves you would be feeling so angry with the lecture but some of thses categories of girls hide their feelings, after lecture, she approaches you and say "Baby am very sorry on the way the lecturer shouted at you". 3. She Visit You And Sometimes Spends The Weekend With You Whenever She Hears You Are Very Sick : This is usually common in every Institution. She doesn't hesitate to visit you whenever she hears that you are sick, she buys you fruits to eat. 4. She Wakes You Up Every Night To Read With Her : You can hardly see a girl who does it. I call this one the real love because she wants you to excell in your academics. This type of girl is worth to be called a wife. You should never lose to marry her after your graduation in the university. I call these types "The suger education". 5. She Gives You Her Bank Details To Withraw Some Money Whenever You Are Broke : It's always difficult to for girls to disclose her account details to you. Any girl who does this loves you more than her wealth, do not lose to marry her. 6. She Advices You To Get Her Pregnant Immediately After Your Final Year Exam : It's no doubt that some girls are very smart and wise. This type of girl would advice or even force you to make her pregnant immediately after both of you had written your final year exams. But do you know that she has her reason for doing that? The reason is clear, it's because she doesn't want to lose you. She wants to have children for you . My Advice If you have a girl who possesses the above qualities, please make sure you marry her because she would take care of your children and would also advice you whenever you lacks advice.
