If any policeman demands money, ask for a receipt- FPRO tells Nigerians

The Nigerian Police Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Friday, December 22, said that Nigerians should ask for a receipt from any police officer demanding money from them.

Adejobi disclosed this in an interview with TVC news 'Policing in the year 2023' on Friday, December 22.

He said: "Like I said earlier today at a programme that it takes you to tangle, in most cases you discovered that bribery is almost as eaten dip into our system in the country and that is why you see the Federal Government has taken the bull by the horn to do all things possible to stop bribery and to kill corruption in our country.

"Most of our men that you see are on the road that has been alleged of taking bribes from Nigerians, most of them are always encouraged to do so, we have said on several occasions that you don't offer bribes to policemen that is discharging his duty and for no reason should you offer.

"Offering a bribe to somebody on duty is even a criminal offence and it's high time we started taking these things seriously, we started thinking outside the box to make sure we have a perfect system in the country.

"We are not generating, police will not be generating fund revenue into his own pocket if at all there is need for you to even pay for any services rendered by Nigeria Police Force, it goes to a central port, Nigeria operates TSA Tingle treasury account (TSA) so that we will able to monitor what they want to do, so that is why the federal government has established TSA for all of us in Nigeria if at all there is need for you to pay for services rendered by anybody it must be official.

"I have charged Nigerians to always tackle our men, some of them who are deviant and want to go out of their ways who are not professional enough, who are not into our ethical consideration of our job and engagement to report all what they do to us.

"When a policeman is demanding money to do anything for you, you too ask for a receipt, if that man cannot give you any receipt, cannot issue out any receipt to you for any payment you have made as a Nigerian please do not pay, for those who collect money on the road we have said it on several occasions that if a policeman is demanding from money on the road you need to ask certain questions in as much that we are not encouraging you to take up a fight with any armed policeman but you can be civil about it and ask certain questions that will make us liberates ourselves from the hands of some of these men who are out there and denting the image of the force.

SaharaReporters had discovered that the fares for the inter-states journey were still higher than what was paid for similar trips a few weeks ago.

President Bola Tinubu has headed for his house in Bourdillon, Ikoyi, Lagos State, where he is expected to spend the Christmas and New Year breaks.

Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, before coming to power was based in Ikoyi, from where he controlled a large number of political associates and godsons.

He headed to Lagos in his official jet, day after announcing a 50 per cent slash in the reduction of public transport prices for inter-state travels for Nigerians.

SaharaReporters had earlier reported that despite listing it as one of the five companies approved by Tinubu’s administration for the implementation of its 50 per cent reduction in interstate transport fares, the management of the God Is Good (GIG) has yet to reduce the price for online booking on its official website.

SaharaReporters had discovered that the fares for the inter-states journey were still higher than what was paid for similar trips a few weeks ago. For instance, Abuja to Lagos which was about N25,000 a few weeks ago was pegged at N52,000 when SaharaReporters checked on Thursday.

The fare for a journey from Lagos to Imo was also pegged at N42,300 by the same firm on its official website. The company also fixed N45,000 as the fare for a trip from Lagos to Rivers State.

When contacted via their official phone line listed on their website for their reaction, the company did not answer SaharaReporters’ calls and had yet to reply to our e-mail and a WhatsApp message sent to seek clarifications.

GIG via its X explained that the only terminals they had started the initiative were Jibowu and Ajah in Lagos, revealing that “other terminals would be announced in the coming days.”

The four other firms in the initiative are Chisco Transport, Young Shall Grow, God Bless Ezenwata and Area Motor.

Efforts made by SaharaReporters to check if the other four firms had complied with the initiative were hampered by their poor online presence.

SaharaReporters gathered that a lot of Nigerians who had thought the announcement of a 50% reduction in fares would take effect immediately had been stranded.

I am a Catholic and an ex seminarian at that. So any blessing that is given to gay couple as a couple simply means approval. If you must bless them it must be done individually in a way that shows that they are not recognised as couple. Shikina. People should stop trying to defend what the Pope said instead let him clarify the issue himself. Gay marriage in Catholic? God forbid bad thing.

The Pope style of leadership is Pastoral. A shepherd who love his sheep. The emphasis is on case by case basis by priest. This situation will help the priest journey with the wayward LGBTQ people and bring them back to track.
