Politics / Re: Nigeria Ranked Second Most Deadly Country In The World after Iraq. by Antoinne: 9:39pm On Jun 17, 2015 |
Wildrage: Dongreatken: Princecalm: Nigerians! Ever playing the victim... No other place in the world have there been such recurrent, countless killings as has been in north eastern Nigeria. The massacre at Baga happened like any other: with Nigerians not caring one bit about the victims and their losses. Even satellite imagery, from thousands of feet above, could capture this insane ravaging, yet Nigerians will pretend like it never happened. Playing the victim doesn't help. What reputation does the sunken country even have at all that is worth denigrating? No one cares, not this reporter, not the agency responsible for this ranking. Rather that raise voices claiming witch-hunting, we should be holding our heads down looking for ways to ensure the oppressed can again live without bother or harm. |

There was once a Nigeria where the Dele Giwa letter bombing was a tale that wow'ed kids. The explosion could only be imagined, and the resulting catastrophe rightly seen as completely inhuman. Now, there are more bombing episodes by month than you can count on your fingers. It's almost as if Nigeria is at war, and today's kids have been rendered pretty inured to these repeated, senseless bombings. |

nedu2000:Don't get it wrong. It's not about a blame game. Passing blames stopped years ago after territorial independence. However, Africans need to know and to remember, irrespective of how far back this occurred. It's for the same reason the Holocaust is remembered; it's for the same reason the massacres coordinated by the Spanish conquistadors several centuries ago are still remembered. Of course, Africa should move on, but it certainly won't be just to forget the several defining points in her history. This was one of such. |

nedu2000: It's been acknowledged among African historians who don't pander to white supremacist ideologies that King Leopold did pretty excessive damage to the Congo, damage as weighty as Hitler's, if regarded in early-20th century terms. So, it isn't about the numbers really. It's about the treatment one man, just one man, met to a whole bunch of peoples under his control. A man who ran a country like a personal estate. What happened during the Holocaust was looting, enslavement and torture. What happened in the Congo was no less than that, if not more. This is actually being discussed the world over. It's just a problem it's not standard textbook history in many African countries. |
