Sports / Re: How Can One Help Groom A Child To Become A Football Star In The Future? by Antoinne: 3:37pm On Sep 07, 2015
RedBenson:

Bro, thanks for your reply but is there no where one can start right here? And if one must send him over to foreign land, how do you obtain the right information towards doing that?
You can search out football academies in Spain or England. Nearly all of them have an age from which the kid can join. For some it's 4, for others it's 8 or even 12. Once you have settled on one, start preparing towards it. Meanwhile, keep the kid interested in football. Let him watch, buy him a round leather. He might even be able to do primary education here before leaving. Once he's of age, he should travel immediately to start schooling.

If you really follow through with this, you would be doing the kid a great favor. Identifying what a kid is capable of that early is an impressive thing. Helping the kid achieve it is even more so.

I had a cousin who wrote a book at 10. Of course, he didn't write that well, but it was something. And I'm talking a novel here. He would later write several more before clocking 15 and gaining admission into the university. While his parents were super carried away by his efforts, they still had him study engineering in school, packing all of his books and dumping them one side. Now, he's a first class engineer working with an oil coy and hustling about trying to make money. He's doing well for himself obviously, but still nurses a desire to write. That, however, is not coming easy to him anymore. Imagine, what influence such person might have attained in Nigeria, if he had continued writing from 15?

Help that kid. He clearly has no idea what he's doing right now, but if in the end he discovers he loves playing football more than being a doc or a lawyer; and he actually ends up being a footballer, he'd appreciate you to no end.

One word: get him out of the country. Preferably into an academy in Spain.

Always afraid to give speech, testimonies and preach.. I didn't even go to my valenditory service, because of the head boy speech am to give..

Sometimes i don't even know how to start conversation with a girl
Damn i hate being an introvert

Being an introvert is very complicated, you will always want to be like the extroverts, they always drag you to events that u will end up not going and even if u did went, u will just be occupying space and that's y I haven't had a girl friend at 26 , I haven't being at a wedding ceremony, I just don't feel comfortable at gatherings I feel so weird, my mum is planning to get a wife for me,some people think am gay sef, gals don show me green light taya, all I do is keep a straight face

All you introverts suckling here like babies need one thing: psychiatric help. Buzz a doc or visit a clinic.

If you having troubles being an introvert, expressing yourself, then you are no different from the extrovert who continually ends up in problems with his/her loquaciousness. Come on, guys!

Introversion is only one side to you. You can be introverted and still have a girlfriend you spend or don't spend hours on end on the phone with. You can be an introvert and still go to or not go to parties. It's as you like it.
You can be an introvert and still stay indoor all day long musing to yourself and engaging your thoughts. And this without feeling left out. And oh yes, you can be an introvert and keep quiet all day not talking to anyone. Ready, though, when needed, to express your opinions and make your stand clear.

Separate being an introvert from being timid and lacking will. Separate them. You guys need to work on yourselves. undecided

Politics / Re: Please Need An Answer: Do Individuals Or Government Build Great Societies?? by Antoinne: 2:26pm On Sep 07, 2015

That is true, but there is another way of looking at it, most times especially in developed countries the innovation or effort of an individual(s) forces the government to make laws that will provide that a conducive environment for that business, for example if a person builds a world class hospital in maybe Ondo state, the government of the state( even if it is corrupt) will be forced to create a condition in which that hospital strives due to the amount of potential income and exposure it will receive
I understand your point here. But really, the only person who would build the hospital first before a government makes law to benefit his investment can only be a Mother Theresa or a Gandhi with immeasurable wealth. There are of course such people, but maybe 1 in a million. Any country waiting for such person to come along will tarry in the depths of under-development for a long time. 1 in a million persons don't come around every other year. Every other 5 years seems more like it. And remember, he must still first grow into an adult and must, by some chance of goodwill, have money grin

Lol i wanted to use few names most people are familiar with, most people don't know who Richard Feynman is.

Yes i have heard of Wecyclers, but i think what she needs most are investor(s) in her business. The reason why i say this is even though the government do not have laws or policies to enable her expand, the way the government and our laws are shaped gives enough room(leeway) for someone like her to expand her business astronomically if she has enough backing, and again this is where individuals come into play

Not sure if that makes sense though
Trust me, investors don't just invest because they like a business. Investors put their money into businesses where they see irrefutable hope for gain. Auto manufacturers started moving into Nigeria, or at least started contemplating moving into Nigeria, after the federal government promulgated laws, or at least indicated signs of promulgating laws, that significantly increased import tariffs on cars. A country like Indonesia has a lot of car manufacturers because it costs more to import a car than to buy one locally. That's a simple government trick to encourage investment.

Investors may like her business, but to them who's to say the government can't wake up tomorrow and make her life more difficult? However, if investors see a desire by the government to tighten regulations on recycling in her favor, or in favor of her business, her business will suddenly become the next best thing after dorobucci. But it won't stop there. No! Rather, it will encourage even more people to set up similar franchises, competitors. The overall effect will strengthen the economy.

Don't know if you heard about the Enron scandal. When that happened and became public, a US legislation followed which elaborated on how companies should handle financial transactions. This new regulation is one of the financial codes most companies, not just US coys, follow now. And certainly it has improved accountability and transparency. That's just one indication of how governments should react to enrich an economy. Heard about the No Fear legislation? Google it. A Nigerian-American whistleblower was being victimized by her company. Case went to congress and a new legislation came out protecting whistleblowers. Now, even more people are encouraged to become whistleblowers. You see? Thousands of examples abound, mostly US examples though.

Can the same be said of Nigeria? I don't think so. So, yes individuals go a long way in making a nation. But if not pushed along the way by the government, there's really very little they can achieve in national terms.
Politics / Re: Please Need An Answer: Do Individuals Or Government Build Great Societies?? by Antoinne: 1:42pm On Sep 07, 2015

I was having an argument with some people about the developed/developing countries and roles the government and individuals play in their development. I am arguing that inputs from individuals in this countries led to an improvement of both the government and the societies but they are saying the government should take the credit instead.

Without people like Jamsetji Tata, Andrew Carnegie, Andrew Carnegie, Rockefeller, etc, most of this countries wouldn't be where they are today. So i have two questions:
(1) Who should be credited for their ideas and innovation leading to developing this countries?? i.e where do you stand in this argument??

(2) AS Africans (using Nigeria as a point of reference), Why do we seem unable to produce individuals like this??
Must they be rich people? I didn't find a Richard Feynman there, nor a Nikola Tesla.

Yes, you are right. Individuals even make government to start with, so it's pretty obvious individuals make a nation. However, if governments do not support with innovative legislations, you can't expect a country to achieve that much regardless of how desiring the individuals are for change.

Case in point: google wecyclers and see how one woman is pushing the boundaries here in Nigeria in the recycling business. One can't talk too much about what this lady is doing and how it holds serious potential for changing this country. Yet, there's a government that doesn't have a policy on recycling, nor is willing to promulgate laws that could not only expand business in that industry, but also reorientate the handling of waste in its urban regions.

America's early 20th century legislations in the oil industry were actually greatly instrumental to the change Rockefeller and co. saw to. Same thing in the area of electricity where Edison could do wonders. Same, again, with Ford and the auto industry. If the government of the day had stifled these men's desire to affect lives, I don't think much would have been achieved in that era.

Honestly, the only reason I see is because Africans didn't liberate themselves with a cultural revolution, but with a violent, physical one. A revolution that'd have seen an incredible upsurge in the number of writers, scientists, thinkers and philosophers Africa had as at the colonial times would probably have done more to help the continent than the actual revolution that took place with a rise in the political competitors that wanted an independent Africa. Marcus Garvey started it all.

Not exactly. Creating some kind of tutoring website where content can be delivered for free, and discourse especially encouraged. I'm not business-minded, but I assume there's some way profit can be reined in from this. That can be taken care of by another person who is intelligent enough to see a business side to this. The point is, all the activities happening here for free and which is volunteer-like is a good one, but could probably be done more positively towards an even greater benefit.
Agentofchange1, I'd suppose that should probably be done outside of Nairaland. I'd suppose...

Trust me, there's a lot of impact to be made here, especially as Education is one big challenge in Africa.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: International Jobs: Nigerians Are Turned Down by Antoinne: 7:45pm On Sep 03, 2015
raayah:
I am going to disagree with the comments. Especially in regards to foreigners.

The reason why most expatriates are paid much is because they are highly skilled, better educated and are risking their lives to work in Nigeria. . You cannot compare a guy who went to school in MIT and has been working at world-class oil plants to a Nigerian man that has been working in substandard plants. They have higher expertise. They are mostly here to train staff and some of them go back home to their host countries.

For someone earing 100,000 us dollars in U.S to move himself here, you need to at least triple that. Converting that to naira is insane. Its one thing travelling fron ondo to zaria but moving from Canada to Nigeria is insane.

Mind you, there are also a lot of Nigerian expatriates making Wicked money abroad.

Secondly, A lot of foreigners from first-world countries are not applying to Nigeria at all. Its very uncommon (exception lebanese). Compared to Nigerians looking for Jobs overseas.

Thirdly, its not exactly easy to get Nigerian visa too. A lot of people are denied visas. So the immigration wahala goes both ways.

Fourthly, a major reason why expatriates go on to build companies and pay low is because thats the culture here. They are not required to pay you higher and no one is fighting for you. Its a business and they are there to make profit.

If Nigeria had good labour laws that are enforced, this will not happen.

Op this is not a fight between Foreigners and nationals.

Its between you and your government.

As usual, we chose the wrong people to fight.

You may be correct with your first point. But I'll agree with you only as far as technical jobs are concerned. And that's not disputable. In the later years just after independence, African countries depended a lot on foreign technical expertise and it wasn't out of place to fill these roles with foreigners since the educational system was as yet not up to speed. Unfortunately, that educational system is still not good enough.

However, you'd still find expatriates filling completely non-technical roles in Nigerian companies, sitting over positions that clearly can be filled with a Nigerian. What, for example, is an expatriate doing as an account officer in Nigeria when there are a great many young Nigerians who can be easily trained to fill this position?

I do agree with your point, though, that many folks here are not directing their grievances towards the right culprit. It definitely is the government, and not these oyibos.

Guys, I've been a bit busy out of here. Hence my frequent absence. However i have an idea i think we should all talk about.
With this combined knowledge and effort at helping people solve problems, creating maths problems, and encouraging discourse, wouldn't it be nice to take this to a completely different platform and create some kind of "online business" out of it? Just wondering...

Well, didn't know that. All i saw were several attempts to solve the problem with combination.

Seamione:
I don't know how to say this without sounding arrogant, but I strongly believe I perfectly understand what I need to in this context. It is you rather, who are refusing to change your perspective about the question, which is all good though.

Take a look at the question again If you don't mind
The term "repetition is not allowed" here simply means when forming a 3-digit number (just one), no digit should appear more than once. So 124, 412, 214, 142, 421 and 241 are all in conformity with the rule guiding the formation of the numbers (i. 3-digit number from the digits 1,2,4,5,6 ii. No repetition of digits)
and are also totally different numbers such cannot be regarded as repeated numbers. Therefore, they all will make the sample space.
At this point if you still feel what about 3 of us here on this thread has said on this question is wrong, then I give up. Hoping that you change your perspective about it one day.

Mind you, it's not a matter of challenging/questioning your knowledge on this, but about not misleading lots of young ones who are gaining one or two things from this forum.

Happy weekend to y'all
#Peace

agentofchange1:

yea bro, i get, its ok now lets forget the whole thing... thanks anyways....

we are all learning.

Seamione is actually right and you are wrong. Your sample space is incorrect. This is not a combination problem, but a permutation problem.

Selecting a multiple of 5 and an odd number from 1,2,4,5,6.
Will give 4x3x1 + 4x3x1.
To form a 3-digit number will give a space of 5x4x3
Probability = (2x4x3)/(5x4x3) = 2/5

I can understand that the bar Nigerians set is so low. That's all i make out of the comments and the videos. Then again, it could be that most know you and are just trying hard not to bruise your ego. Both aren't good.

The videos are terrible.

Poor editing work - music so loud you can hardly make out the dialogue. Good editing work would have lowered the music volume while your actors talked, and only increase it towards end of video while fading out. Music should only be so loud when you don't have dialogue.

More poor editing work - poor picture, poor scenery. The parts were they actually talked, you can hardly make out what they are saying. If you don't have location mics, you should have recorded the audios separately and then superimpose.

Lack of content - some of the skits are actually not just funny. Besides the endtime pastor thing, others don't even much sense. First video had the pastor just ranting "repent"; no more talk.

There's some good sides though. Some of the exits were good. The entrances not so much. Superimposing laugh cuts was good. Better editing will go a long way. Watch more YouTube videos to learn.
