Lools. Yea 0 is a number, but a valueless number. When the probability of something is 0, that is no longer probability. . . that is certainty. . . probability is btwn 0 and 1.(btwn 0.1 & 0.9)

And that it's certainty means you'll never consider it? Probability is between 0 and 1. Some redefine it, except you want to recreate your own maths. Use wikipedia or wolfram and you'll see probability is defined as between 0-1. You shouldn't even be arguing that. 0 is not a valueless number. If it was, it wouldn't have been created.

Anyways,
Comparingng 0 to a number with an actual value, in this aspect of maths(combination & Permutation), is Invalid. This aspect of maths has a real life application, so if you're using mathematical theories to approach this, you should think about it in its real life application.

You might say I'm correct in the realm of common sense, but if you look at it, maths is a deeper concept of common sense.

I'm still open to your counter response.
Maths itself explains things in nature, so you can't separate it from real world applications. Combination and permutation have real world applications; it's in this sense that you have to consider the 5,0. Don't try to play a fast one.

Anyways, see how others have solved similar problems. Your reasoning in this regard can't supported.

before the test invite, i was planning to run a program in kwara state university, a program that offer another B.Sc to graduates in just 2 yrs with only weekend classes and i had gotten the form and was offered admission already, but i haven't paid the fees. so i was asked a particular question on the day of the final interview, i can't remember what the question was, but i ended up talking about the program telling them how i would be attending lectures during weekends (and i was thinking that's gonna give me an advantage). then i was asked how i was going to cope if eventually i was offered the job then i gave them an assuring answer but they weren't satisfied. that was when it dawned on me that i had messed up. the interview that was becoming interesting suddenly became dry. then my turn was over and i went out and went straight to my uncle who is a branch manager in another bank and explained my saga to him and he said i just lost the job because i talked about my schooling ambition...

Pls sir note that before a comparison can be made, the quantities must have something in common,

For example,
•3G is better than EDGE, what is common? They're both internet speed connections.
• Mark Henry is Stronger than big show, what is common? They're both wrestlers.
• A Lamborghini is better than a Volvo 504, what is common? They're both cars.

in this case their ACTUAL PRESENCE in the committee is what they have in common, so comparison is valid.

• 3Men and 2Women. Men>Women. What is common? They're both present.

When you say 0 women. That means NO WOMAN is present and so comparison btwn the men and women is and I say again sir. . . invalid.

• 5Men and 0 Women. And you go like " the no. Of Men are more than the no. Of women". . . a reasonable person would ask you a question. " Excuse Me sir, Where are the Women?" .

I hope I was able to paint a picture in your head. Lools

You are not wrong and i didn't say that you were. Arguing from a common sense perspective, you are correct. But maths doesn't derive from these kinds of argument. Maths is based on numbers, that's why a number called zero was created.
The probability of an event can be 0. The mere fact that such event can't happen is not enough reason not to consider it or its probability. This is the reason you have to consider 5>0 in order to give a complete solution.

If you had to solve this question in order to explain something in nature, the incompleteness of your solution will definitely show if you didn't consider that last possibility.

• 5Men and 0 Women. And you go like " the no. Of Men are more than the no. Of women". . . a reasonable person would ask you a question. " Excuse Me sir, Where are the Women?" .
Maybe. Maybe a reasonable person will ask where the women are. But a mathematician will not. Especially as you had started from 3,2; 4,1. 5,0 is a natural in that sequence. Especially as the question doesn't limit you. Clearly 5men is greater than 0 women. 0 is a number, don't forget. Not a word.

You emit more silly in one second than our entire galaxy emits in a year. Quasar silly. Your writing has to be a troll. Nothing in our universe can really be this silly. Perhaps this is some primordial fragments from the original big bang of silly. Some pure essence of silly so uncontaminated by anything else as to be beyond the laws of physics that we know.

I am sorry. I can't go on. This is an epiphany of silly for me. I don't have enough strength left to deride your ignorant questions and half baked comments about unimportant trivia or any of the rest of this drivel. Duh!!

This computation is invalid for the stated parameters in the question. "No. Of Men must be GREATER THAN the number of women"
With my Tin-tini knowledge of maths, I believe "greater than" is used to compare two quantities or values. In other words, the committee should have both men and women, but No. Of men must be more than that of women. . . so a computation for all men and no woman, bros e be Somehow for eye, how you see am? ;d

He has to be right. In maths, you don't think it half of the way. You must think it through. If there were no women in the committee, the number of men will still be greater than the number of women, i.e. 5>0. And that's a valid mathematical statement, except of course the question introduced the condition that "there must be at least 1 woman".

Politics / Punishment After A Crime by Antoinne: 8:28am On Jul 24, 2015
One of the most basic theories of criminology maintains that when there is a crime, punishment should follow. If in a society there is a crime without commensurate punishment, then such society runs the risk of disintegration. Thus, every functioning society must have a set of punishments which have been generally agreed as consequence for potential crimes. Even though these punishments may not be mentioned, everyone is well aware, even if only passively, of such punishments that may be met out for crimes committed.

A god wins his people's faithfulness using this cardinal criminology theory. Hence, sinners will not go unpunished. A pastor wins his congregation's ardent followership, in so far as they are continually reminded of excommunication for "crimes" (or sins) against the church.

Unfortunately in the Nigerian society crimes are going unpunished. Traffic laws are not obeyed nor are fines instituted or enforced. Sexual assault, domestic violence and battery are not punished by courts, neither are the perpetrators jailed following revelations they actually committed these crimes. Instead, what you have are endless court cases that eventually end in ridiculous bails.

This debacle doesn't stop here. The political lot who have done more harm than repeated bouts of Ebola epidemics also enjoy same ridiculous bail conditions for obvious crimes that they should have been jailed for.

As long as Nigeria continues to disobey this cardinal rule of criminology, the country will continue to perpetuate a society whose fabric is loose, in tatters and unable to sustain sensible human living.

What do you think?

They're really downsizing at their corporate headquarter here in Abuja. The two houses used to be filled up, but now you hardly see people there. I had my internship there in 2012, and majority of the people I knew there have been sacked.

Maybe the people undergoing training at your place are onshore workers right?
Especially their Human Resources and IST department. I was told they only pick a competent hand to handle major section and then lay majority off. Not sure.

Some staffs already got their termination letter to begin from 1st of August.

Some contract staffs are waiting for their contract to terminate and then it will not be renewed.

It's a sad one. The only people it favoured are those who resigned before the whole crisis.

Not just Total. Pretty much every coy in the oil sector. The fall in oil prices engendered this. Oil servicing coys are leading the way with redundancy. The producers are also not so far behind.

Politics / Re: Is Donald Trump Pulling A Nigerian 419 Scam? - James Altucher by Antoinne: 8:52am On Jul 23, 2015
The author doesn't even know a dot about the so-called Nigerian 419 scam. If this is his explanation of the Nigerian fraud, then he certainly needs more education on it. Finally, it does look like he's the one pulling the wool over our eyes.

The Nigerian 419 strategy is to have a misspelled email from the son of some deceased Prince who needs all your bank info in order to release $20 million that he will eagerly split with you.

Then he steals all of your money.

Why is the email misspelled? After decades of Nigerians sending the exact same email, why is it always mis-spelled? And, by the way, the OFFICIAL LANGUAGE OF NIGERIA IS ENGLISH.

There's a simple reason. Anybody in the top 90% of rational people know that a misspelled email coming from a Nigerian prince is a scam.

The Nigerians don't want to deal with those 90%. Even if you sent a perfectly spelled letter with a much more realistic story, those 90% will figure it out. Then the scammer will have wasted his time. He doesn't want to waste time.

He needs to find the 10% that will respond to him really quickly. (Btw, I'm assuming "he" but can also be a "she"wink. And the 10% that will work.

Does it work? Of course it does. 419-ers made $13 billion last year. And every year.
Career / Seven Irrelevant Things An Average Nigerian Youth In: Positive Social Networking by Antoinne: 8:09am On Jul 23, 2015
Today, an article came up on the front page of Nairaland describing the many irrelevant things Nigerian youths engage in. The author highlighted a number of vices the Nigerian youth enthusiastically embraces. As sorry as these are, there is arguably no doubt some element of truth can be found sprinkled around the writer's thesis. Many a Nigerian youngster have become so carried away with by modern advances that they take their influence for granted. It is especially unnerving to find them incredibly preoccupied with social media to the extent of self-annihilation. They chat, whatsapp and facebook to stupor, leaving room for no other mind-engaging activities.

While it's completely in order to socialize and, perhaps, use the services of these many social networking, getting constantly lured to the same services or suffering from an addiction that doesn't permit letting go off a smartphone for two seconds puts the affected on a path towards what Nigerians have termed, "mumuity". In other words, you become a real "mumu".

Social networks can be used for something good, if indeed you want to. Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are not all there are. Below are a list of social networks you should subscribe to and subsequently make good use of if indeed you seek to develop yourself.
Perhaps if the number of Nigerians on these other websites neared only half the multitude on the three big giants mentioned earlier, this country might just have the necessary human resources it needs to liberate itself from the intellectual abyss it has since remained in.
