Business / The Neglect Nigerian Businesses Suffer from Nigerians by Antoinne: 1:03pm On Sep 13, 2015
This has been on my mind a long time, and it has just come to the time I must talk about it.

If you look at the US technology market, you see a concerted effort by business and political leaders to advance US technology and businesses. They don't do it subtle; they don't make a pretence to it. Hence, you see Barack Obama with a twitter or quora account, Larry Summers (political leader) with a quora account, Ashton Kutcher with a fb and twitter account, or Madonna with a twitter account. Even lately Taylor Swift had a run-in with Apple that helped boost serious business for the music-offering company. Apple has pretty much rode on goodwill from american artistes and producers on its way to being one of the most successful companies ever the world has seen. Guess what? It doesn't stop there!

These leaders make sure they release major news on these social media apps. A US director will announce his new movie or an artiste will announce his/her newest activities on Twitter. Obama will answer questions on Quora, and news journalists will update breaking news via Twitter. The list goes on... The aftereffect of this, is that it promotes these social media utilities by boosting their ratings and creating social worth for them. More people get on the train and business becomes good. Foreign exchange goes to America and their economy booms.

Then you ask yourself, why aren't Nigerian leaders using same with Nigerian businesses? If anything, at least to promote them? There's Nairaland, there's Linda Ikeji. Gisttar is there, and I'm sure there are a host other Nigerian technology utilities that could be promoted to serve the general interest of the country. Instead, you find many Nigerians clinging to fb, twitter and the likes. Utilities that don't serve the interest of the country.

This honestly isn't fair. Nigerians need to assess the impact their population strength can have on making a Nigerian web utility successful and they need to use it.

I know it's symbolic, but is it bad to want it to look cute too?
Say, you know a girl who dislikes very conspicuous items and yet you buy a ring with a giant rock in the middle undecided You don't think she'll experience some discomfort wearing that even if she loves you to heaven and back?
That's what I mean. I'm not talking cost here, I'm talking cut.
Or imagine buying your wife a mini dress even though she likes maxi dresses and feels uncomfortable in mini. Same thing here.
The cost isn't the issue, but you should buy your woman something she doesn't have to psyche herself to wear everyday.
If she wants a giant rock rather than full stop grin then I'm certain he can get a bigger rock (even if it requires buying something cheaper.)
You may indeed be talking cut, but some girls are actually talking cost. Regarding this topic, I'd think "cost" the more likely subject matter. If it were a full stop, as you say, and it cost a fortune, I'd like to think the lady in question would probably wear it, flaunt it, and make it a note to remind people that it's actually "expensive". We know the drill here. Many of these ladies want that expensive piece of item they can flaunt before friends, no matter if it's a skirt, a rock or a dress.

Oooops:

Yes. That is very correct. If not for the lack of foresight by our government both past and present, this shouldn't have been an issue by now. A whole country has just few major city; Abuja, Lagos, Portharcout, Kano etc..... Just these hand few. This is so wrong... By now we should have several cities housing several companies and known for something hence their attractions. Create access road and give citizens reasons to go there, if the job is available they will. Its pathetic that our government is more concerned abt money.... hmmmm

True. Even another African country like South Africa has been doing a lot developing other cities.
Typically, a government should think of the nation and its citizens first, create cities and stimulate favorable migration. Rather, you have a country where the government is better concerned with sharing the nation's wealth into private pockets.

Sir whichever way you choose to look at it, everyone cannot be wrong at the same time. If you have worked in a multi-ethnic firm in Nigeria, you probably know at least one Yoruba guy who everyone hates because he's a snitch and an asslicker of the boss. It is sad but true.

BTW Why always Yorubas? This guy is a case in point of what a typical Yoruba man is at his workplace. Greedy, envious, hate-filled, tribalistic and a snitch. Learn to deal with the truth and stop attacking the messenger.
And at what stage did you confirm that he's Yoruba, as you say? You Nigerians are your own worst enemies, never seeing beyond the barriers the white man had set for you. Pity!

I share your sentiments wholeheartedly. The city is super overrated and that's probably an understatement. And with no plan in sight to develop other cities and compulsorily move industries there, it does look like there is an expected catastrophe coming along. And to think of it, which city is any good in the whole country? Is it Abuja with the horrible politicians who terrorize citizens daily, Port Harcourt with its horrible, non-navigable roads, Lagos with its stink and filth or Kano with Boko Haram on the loose? I truly don't think so!

u can go thru my threads if u like. I don't make bigoted tribalistic comments.
I specifically pointed out that my opinion on his tribe was derived from personal experience(s) I had while working with my beloved Yoruba pple. I don't hate them for it. To me, it has become a way of life with them. I simply find it amusing.
... while working with a few Yoruba people, you wanted to say. Genial and cordial you might be, but your comments are still bigoted. You don't draw conclusions about a whole race from the actions of the few you've associated with. It's like saying African Americans all like chicken, because a few do. Such comments are bigoted.

So back to the topic. Right thinking pple have said it all. Keep envy, ego and jealousy aside. Just do the job u were hired and being paid to do.
God will surely uplift and reward u in due time.
Incredible how Nigerians must first excuse themselves before making tribalistic comments. How do you guys do it!!??

Is it such a bad thing to hope your husband to be proposes with a ring you'll love to wear?
If it means so much to the man that she wears his mark, then he has to put some effort into procuring the right one.

Marriage is not a favour please.

That said, why the boy vex? grin

Can't you guys simply the message that the ring is symbolic and not material?

It's his arrogance that even got to me. If it was me personally, I would have told him way before, the day you bring a rubbish ring for me, my answer will be no. It's either a ring I like or no ring. If society wants me to be a slave to you I might as well get the best dang ring to show for it. grin
So, you really wouldn't mind being a slave to a man? The problems with ladies who think like this, is that they become bound to a guy once he has 'money' to show for it.

IMO the two were just immature. As the guy, I'd have simply walked away from the relationship the moment she makes it known she doesn't like my dear ring. And as the lady, I simply would have called the whole thing off since the ring didn't meet my dreams to start with.

The fact that some questions asked and answered by peeps here do not apply to you for now do not make them irrelevant. Simply asking for how to proceed with your biometrics would have sufficed.
Now, after submitting your application online you will receive a biometrics instruction letter in your MyCIC account check under messages, print out this letter + international passport (hard copy) + two photocopies and head to VFS lekki or VFS abuja for your biometrics to be obtained. There is no extra charge if you submit online and NGN300 for SMS is optional.
Thanks. But you clearly didn't get what I meant by irrelevant. Nigerians and choice of comprehension! Phew!

The problem with these threads (all the parts) is that there's just so maaaaaaaaaany irrelevant information, it's hard to sort them and comprehend. Abeg, I'm not trying to put anybody down. But I can't find the things I need, even after going through pages and pages of part7-9.

I see many people doing biometrics same day. Guess they applied with paper at the embassy. Can anyone please just let me know how I do biometrics, if I apply online? Thanks.

I come across to whom? I reject them because I really don't like a place with too many people because it involves a lot of fake niceness & useless chit chat about nothing. Have you ever pretended to be interested in some lame story someone was telling, while inside you're groaning & not really caring? THAT is exactly why I don't go to big gatherings. Not everyone you're going to click with on a mental level, so I'd rather be by myself than listen to someone going blah blah blah about BS I care very little about.

Btw, who died & put you in charge of endorsing who & who isn't an introvert? Hmmm..

That's what you said below. "Turning down invitations where i could be having so much fun..." I didn't say it. You said so. Now, following that I've merely expressed my opinion. Didn't do no bad. If you didn't like "a place with too many people because it involves a lot of fake niceness & useless chit chat about nothing", I don't think you'd suppose you could be "having so much fun" there. Would you?

Well, maybe it's just me. Maybe that's some English i don't understand undecided

Take it easy on yourself. You see, there's one trait characteristic of timid people: they get overly defensive when caught hand in the soup pot grin

Turning down party invitations where I could be having so much fun, just to go sit in front the tv bored out of my mind (when the programming sucks on the day)

This is spot on.

Bruv, to be frank with you, I love my life like no other. I posted something earlier on in response to someone's post. That, boredom is a non-existing word in my Dictionary. I have friends who call sometimes and tell me they wanna come around as they are bored. Then I ask myself; why don't I get bored too?

When I tell people I have never been to a club before, they say I am missing out. What the heck! Missing out on what? You have to figure out what makes you happy and do that as much as possible to always stay happy. Like you rightly stated, the person you wish to become more like could just be wishing they could be like you.

People need to see the positive side of things. Introversion is not a burden, neither is it a curse. Its a great blessing.
2 gbosas! for you grin
Now that you mentioned it, I'm actually trying to remember the last time I thought I was bored... undecided

You see, turning down the party invitation has nothing to do with being introvert, but more to do with being timid or lacking of will. And that's not a good thing for your future self. If you do want to go to that party, nothing should stop you from going, exercising your freedom while there and not crossing the boundaries you've set for yourself. Bascially, living your life. And if what you want to do is to simply sit at home, then that's what you should just do and enjoy same while at it. Without feeling left out.

Just had to put that out there undecided

I am with you on that bruv. I saw your earlier post and sincerely I had the intention of doing same before seeing yours.

It seems very many people think they are at lose for being introverts. Why is the reverse the case for me?

I wonder ooOOooo. I'd give anything to come back to this life as an introvert. I have absolutely no problem being one. All my friends complain daily about money, cos they spend recklessly at the clubs. I don't go to clubs much, and I like to keep my own money. Doesn't even come across to me like I'm not living. Really living my life to the fullest, doing my own things and spending my time on what I choose to, not on what I'm pressured to. Really don't have any apologies. Certainly with you on this.

One thing many of them don't realize is that: just as they wish they were extrovert enough to be the life of a party, there are a great many extroverts who wish they'd just be introvert enough to have quiet and to not have to be the life of a party.
