What I told you was that if Nigerian Poly were structured as conceived, uni graduates have no intuitive yardstick of comparison with poly graduates as to being inferior or superior. It is simply a division of labour, with one being more academic and research oriented with the other being more inclined toindustry and production.

Our graduates are mostly not the hardworking type. I have a friend who happens to be an engineer also and he was complaining of joblessness and I called him to be on site with me for a week, and behold, he could not find a day funny because we were not in the airconditioned room drawing and calculating! But I have been on site for some years now, and nothing like job threat or sack. Inshort, I tried to resign to start-off mine, but my boss(financial owner) had to buy me a brand new car increased my benefits and talked to my wife. I actually run the engineering firm while my boss is just the owner and always in abroad.

However, I must still kick off my own soon. How many cars can he buy?

How did I even got the job? I was working on my own idea after graduation, when my boss saw me and invested into the idea. I never looked for any work and i dont have a CV.

Those who are destined to succeed through a paid employment, please intensify your search. But for those potential self-employer, please , pause and think, your job starts in less than 24hours, and for sure the luck comes thereafter.

I believe the ICAN Cert you mean is the one that qualifies you as a chartered accountant. Far much bigger than BSc if knowledge is what you are considering,which to me is.

So many BSc holder wrote ICAN for Ten years and could not qualify. Are you saying that the answers to the exam questions were wrong? Does the BSc holder has an alternative answers.

To me this questions is not worth a thread because a Bsc acc holder will need to write minimum of Two stage in ICAN to qualify. You would hardly find someone that wrote them without recording a single failure. There are but very rare.

I'am happy for you that you know Physics enough.

But dont you think that you still need to know English? Being able to write good sentences is still important in life. Think of it.

In the Ist place I'm not a poly grad and have no Nigerian degree.

I am talking about the necessity of poly. University was deficient in providing industrial manpower. They were producing engineering graduates who could only possibly do well by continuing with academics,that is becoming a lecturer or so. Then, poly needed to provide a more detailed practical and productive knowledge which is what a nation needs to produce.

You sounded like one of those deficient university graduate who never knew while poly was created and cannot just be converted to Uni as Uni has lacked enough for the poly to be created to fill the gap of production which we need.

In Nigeria, the academic system has actually not differentiated this. I can assure you that in your own field, you are not better than any poly graduate.

Well, even though the poly deviated from science to more of business, it is not far-fetched. When you study engineering in poly, they say you are not an engineer but technologist until you do your masters before they call you an engineer, even when you are better than your fellow university graduate, they discriminate and put him ahead of you. As far as Nigeria is concerned, our poly graduates are as dull/smart as their university graduates. maybe in Abroad, degree course work is more academic and research-based, why poly is more of industry-based. It does not make any one superior. it is just division of labour! but someone very dull from one university will claim to be superior engineer, when he can not supervise any physical projects.

An engineer who claims that he is trained to be more theoritical should have been a scientist and not an engineer. Engineering that i know has been defined in some cases as "application of scientific knowledge for the benefit of mankind". The word "application" must be there or else you have to be a scientist or simply a researcher.

It will be a welcome development, if Poly and Uni graduates are subject to the same exam before admission into professional bodies or promotion in the office. You will be amazed if not shocked to the marrow of the result you will get.

At a time, Uni graduates were lowest in passing ICAN exam while Poly graduates were on the top.

Knowledge is more important than anyhting in this case. Let us embrace knowledge and move the country forward instead of encouraging everyone to have degree when they know nothing. Thank God, i keep putting those boys were they belong when they come to work with me on Site on in the office on designs as graduates. Where do they belong? Training hall. no recruitment agency will ask for 750 even if they want to ask for money. it is really to small. some do ask for 50% of your first salary. but you must start work first before payment.

Redman44 was absolutely correct. Even traditional universities post their assignments online. You see most of the students rushing to the internet for their asignments.

Online creates access to everyone. Traditonal University style has has held and sustained ignorance in the greater part of the population of every country for too long. But, somehow, access is getting greater now because online is breaking the barricade of ingorance.

In compelete traditional environment, when you miss your lecture, it's gone forever, but in Online, the records are there and you can replay your lectures often and often.

Like I said, Nigerians are smart. But good University, NO. Not at all. The quality of lecturers, oh my God. Graduates oooops!

Degree has little or almost nothing to do these days for a serious person. Maybe much to do before the interview date with the human resources dept. But, after that day, your brain and creativity takes over.

Like, me, I dont have a CV. The only period I have had to bring out my certificates has always been when I want to use them for application on graduate schools. I started working for my company while on final year and since then, No job threat, because I am a threat. As a matter of fact, we have sent so many with their degree of the track due to lack of pre-requisite knowledge,that you might even wonder how they succeeded in getting that cert.

I beleive that most foreign graduates are not very smart. Defnitely not in the index of Nigerian universities. Some of our graduates here can't even read very well. i was embarrassed one time when a youth corper could not read. I mean read. how could such a one graduagte from any university for God's sake? Must everyone go to university? You can make life very well without university.

Is the person coming from Iraq? Ofcourse we all know that Nigeria has no university. Do not tell me of covenant because, it is still more of a secondary school than a University. Human right is not a concern there. What they do there is enough for a student to take the school to court.

However, there are very great and intelligent students in Nigeria who can stand their mates outside even with the bad schools we have here. We are just talented, good and very enduring people and almost can thrive at the presence of nothing. Great Nigerians.

I had experience of Nigerian uni, south african college of Tech, and presently I am doing my master's degree in an American university. I can boldly tell you that Nigeria has no University that I know for today. Not yet. I really dont have statistics of Bowen and that American Uni at Adamawa, I will consider them objectively and comment.

I dated a girl who graduated from CU. they were the first set admitted into the school. She was my girl b4 and thru and after school until we had a rift and saperated. I can tell you that, those lock-up shops in that CU compound has not made any difference than increasing their desire to go out!

My wife got married to me at the end of her second semester in 300 level and delivered my son at her final year. My son will be two year this march. I could not have imagined anything happening to that guy simply because any school do not want it. That is devine and a christian school should not detect it. Her marriage was graced by her coursemates and it was somehing else,honestly. She has done her NYSC now and we have no regret. The family is on and it appeares that that was the best decision she had ever taken and she keeps telling me that, virtually on daily basis.

Maybe a wider perspective will make them change some of those policies. University is for adults and not kids per se.

I never beleived it is lack of money that causes prostitution. Another girl may need money and rather go for after-school work and pay her fee instead of looking for men to give her money.

the poster is correct to some extent. He simply should have used some girls definitely not all girls. I met so many Nigerian girls before I got married. Actually the majority of our girls do not pay attention to romance. It is all about your worth. It is not a tribal thing, though some tribe might seem to have greater % of love for money. However, I was lucky to find a very good one after about nothing less than 18 girls down the drain, if I can clearly remember.

This last one thought i was a student until she got to know me better and honestly, she was not interested in money, that does not mean she refuses gift or whatever but for sure, her attention is not on material things.

I can advise the poster to be a little patient, he will surely find.

But let no man or woman come here and deceive us that the majority of naija girls are not after money, or maybe they are roamantic when the money is there. But the actual romance without materialism, we cant on average boast of more than 15% of our mature girls. But good ones are there. They do exist. Be a little slower, be more frank and truthful yourself, for sure you will find. I am sure of that.
