The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC has on Monday confirmed the abduction of Abraham Amuta, a corps member abducted by members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect in Borno.

The report was confirmed by the Borno State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr Rabiu Aminu, on Monday in Maiduguri.

In an earlier report gathered on social media, the corps member was abducted along with a pastor with the Living Faith Church, in an attack by the insurgent in Maiduguri.

The coordinator however stated that the corps member was traveling with the pastor and other members of the church, The Guardian reports.

“The church claimed that the corps member was abducted alongside his pastor.

“NYSC deploys corps members to only four of the 27 local government areas in the state.

“The councils are Jere, Bayo, Biu and Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC).

“For any corps member to travel, he has to apply through proper channel and this involves a formal request from his employer, through the zonal inspector and channel to the state coordinator, where we look at it, endorse or approve the request.

“It was unfortunate that the said corps member travelled on his own; we have been having a sleepless night over the issue because he is under our custody.

“We visited the Church, and the Commissioner of Police called us on Friday over the incident and assured us of their total support to address the situation,” he said.

It is mustaḥab (recommended) to congratulate the parent of a new born baby as mentioned by Imam Nawawī (d. 676/1277) in al-Adhkār (p. 289) and Ḥāfiẓ Ibn al-Qayyim (d. 751/1350) in Tuḥfat al-Mawdūd (p. 27). It is mentioned in authentic narrations that the Prophet ﷺ would supplicate and seek blessings for the new born baby. For example, when ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Zubayr (d. 73/692) (may Allah be pleased with him) was born, the Prophet ﷺ supplicated and sought blessings for him (Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, 3909). Similarly, when Abū Mūsā al-Ashʿarī (d. 44/665) (may Allah be pleased with him) had a baby, the Prophet ﷺ supplicated for blessings for him (Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, 5467).

Several supplications are found in the books of ḥadīth:

(1) The most authentic supplication has been transmitted in Musnad al-Bazzār (7310):

بَارَكَ اللهُ لَك فِيْهِ وَجَعَلَهُ بَرًّا تَقِيًّا

“May Allah instil blessings in him for you and make him righteous God fearing.”

All the transmitters of this chain are thiqah (trustworthy) as affirmed by Ḥāfiẓ Haythamī (d. 807/1405) in Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid (9: 261). It is also worth noting that this narration is marfūʿ (attributed to the Prophet ﷺ), unlike the two narrations below.

(2) There is another supplication narrated from some tābiʿūn (followers of companions):

جَعَلَهُ اللهُ مُبَارَكًا عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَى أمَّةِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

“May Allah make him blessed for you and for the nation of Muḥammad ﷺ.”

This supplication has been transmitted from Ayyūb al-Sakhtiyānī (d. 131/748-9) in al-Nafaqah alā al-ʿIyāl (202), al-Duʿāʾ (946) and Hilyat al-Awliyāʾ (3: . The same supplication has also been narrated from Ḥasan al-Baṣrī (d. 110/728) in al-Duʿāʾ (945). Both narrations are ḥasan (agreeable).

(3) A third supplication has been transmitted from Ḥasan al-Baṣrī (d. 110/728):

شَكَرْتَ الْوَاهِبَ وَبُوْرِكَ لَكَ فِي الْمَوْهُوْبِ وَبَلَغَ أَشُدَّهُ وَرُزِقْتَ بِرَّهُ

“May you thank The Giver, may you be blessed in the gift, may the child reach the maturity of years, and may you be granted its righteousness.”

This narration from Ḥasan al-Baṣrī has been transmitted in Musnad ʿAlī ibn al-Jaʿd (3398) and via it in al-Nafaqah alā al-ʿIyāl (201) and al-Kāmil (8: 395). However, this narration is extremely weak because of Haytham ibn Jammāz, a repudiated transmitter (al-Kāmil, 8: 395; Mīzān al-Iʿtidāl, 4: 319; Lisān al-Mīzān, 8: 352). The narration has also been transmitted in Tārīkh Dimashq (59: 276) via another chain with a slight variation in the order of the phrases. However, the narration is also weak due to Kulthūm ibn Jawshan, a weak transmitter (al-Jarḥ wa al-Taʿdīl, 7: 164; Tadhkirat al-Ḥuffāz li Ibn al-Qaysarānī, p. 412; Tahdhīb al-Kamāl, 24: 201).

Nevertheless, scholars who have cited this supplication include Imam Ibn Qudāmah (d. 620/1223) in al-Mugnī (9: 464) and Ḥāfiẓ Ibn al-Qayyim (d. 751/1350) in Tuḥfat al-Mawdūd (p. 29). Imam Nawawī (d. 676/1277) also cites this supplication in al-Adhkār (p. 289) with a slight variation in the wording and adds the following based on the Prophetic advice to return a favour (Sunan al-Tirmidhī, 2035; Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān, 3413):

ويستحب أن يرد على المهنئ فيقول: بارك الله لك وبارك عليك، أو جزاك الله خيرا ورزقك مثله، أو أجزل ثوابك، ونحو هذا

“And it is recommended [for the parent] to reply to the person congratulating and say: May Allah bless you, and shower His blessings upon you, or [say:] may Allah reward you well and grant you its like, or [say:] may he reward you abundantly, and similar to this.”

In conclusion, it is desirable to congratulate the parents of a new born baby and seek Allah’s blessings for the child. It is preferable to use the first supplication cited above. However, this is not necessary and one will be rewarded for invoking blessings through the other two phrases or indeed any other similar phrase.

Without an adult's aid, he/she is helpless. The same applies in the case of the first man, Adam may Allah exalt his mention. His Creator, Almighty Allah, became his Teacher. After him, Divine inspiration continued to be revealed upon selected human beings with the command to guide their brethren towards enlightenment and truth.

These revelations were sent to many different nations in many different tongues, and formulated according to the needs of the times and the understanding of the people.
Almighty Allah revealed those Divine Books to His messengers as proof against mankind and guidance for the righteous workers. They purified and taught them wisdom by these books.
Allah, the Most Exalted, sent down a book with every messenger, because He Says (what means): "Indeed We sent down Our messengers with the clear signs, and We sent down with them the book and the balance, so that people may uphold justice" [Quran 57:25]

Books Known:
Among the books that were revealed, we know:

1) The Torah, which was revealed to Prophet Moosa (Moses) may Allah exalt his mention. It is the greatest among the Israelites' books: Almighty Allah Says (what means): "Indeed, We sent down the Torah, in which was guidance and light. The prophets who submitted [to Allah] judged by it for the Jews, as did the rabbis and scholars by that with which they were entrusted of the Scripture of Allah, and they were witnesses thereto." [Quran 5:44]
2) The Gospel, which Allah revealed to Prophet 'Eesa (Jesus) may Allah exalt his mention. It is a confirmation of the Torah and a complement to it, as Almighty Allah Says (what means): "…and We gave him ('Eesaa) the Gospel, in which was guidance and light and confirming that which preceded it of the Torah as guidance and instruction for the righteous." [Quran 5:46]. Allah also Says (what means): "…and to make lawful for you some of what was forbidden to you." [Quran 3:50]
3) The Psalms, which Allah gave to Prophet Dawood (David) may Allah exalt his mention. Almighty Allah Says (what means): "… And to Daawood (David) We gave the Psalms]." [Quran 17:55]
4) The Tablets of Ibraheem (Abraham) and Moosa may Allah exalt their mention.
5) The Glorious Quran, which was revealed to Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ) the final Prophet. Allah Almighty Says (what means): "…guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion." [Quran 2:185].

The Quran Is Protected from Change:
As Allah, the Most Exalted, Says (what means), The Quran: "…confirming that which preceded it of the Scripture and as a criterion over it." [Quran 5:48] Thus, by means of the Quran, Allah abrogated all the previous revealed books. Allah has also guaranteed its protection from any play or mischievous distortion. He states (what means): "Indeed, We sent down the message and We will guard it." [Quran 15:9], for the Quran is a proof against mankind till the Day of Judgment.

Previous Scriptures Changed:
The previous scriptures were meant for a limited period. Their use ended with the revelation of the Quran, which abrogated them and exposed their distortions and changes done by the people. That is why they were not protected from corruption. They underwent distortion, addition, and omission. The Quran referred to this fact in the verses (which mean): "Some of the Jews pervert words from their meanings…" [Quran 4:46];
Allah also Says (what means): "So woe to those who write the “scripture” with their own hands, then say, “This is from Allah,” in order to exchange it for a small price. Woe to them for what their hands have written and woe to them for what they earn." [Quran 2:79];
Allah also Says (what means): "Say (O Muhammad), 'Who revealed the Scripture that Moosaa (Moses) brought as light and guidance to the people? You [Jews] make it into pages, disclosing [some of] it and concealing much." [Quran 6:91];
Allah also Says (what means): "And indeed, there is among them a party who alter the Scripture with their tongues so you may think it is from the Scripture, but it is not from the Scripture. And they say, “This is from Allah,” but it is not from Allah. And they speak untruth about Allah while they know." [Quran 3:78];

And He also Says (what means): "O People of the Scripture, there has come to you Our Messenger making clear to you much of what you used to conceal of the Scripture and overlooking much. There has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book [i.e. the Quran]. By which Allah guides those who pursue His pleasure to the ways of peace and brings them out from darkness into the light, by His permission, and guides them to a straight path." [Quran 5:15-16].

Allah, The Almighty, revealed the Qur'an to be His last, all-embracing Scripture containing the final manifestation of the Divine Law. This necessitates that it has to be safeguarded from the mischievous hands of men and from all corruption. This protection has been a reality from the time the Qur'an was revealed until today and will remain so forever. It contains no additions or deletions. It has reached us by so many chains of transmission that it is impossible for them to have conspired on a lie. It has been recorded and memorized innumerable times.

There has been no change in its text over time, not even in a single letter. Some of those who have committed it to memory cannot speak Arabic; nevertheless, they recite it exactly as it was revealed.

Allah has guaranteed the preservation of the Qura'nic text, as He, the Most Exalted, Says (what means): "Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian." [Qur'an 15:9]

Allah also Says (what means): "And the word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and in justice. None can alter His words, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing." [Qur'an 6: 115]

As for the previous Scriptures, they were for a limited duration of time. Allah gave human beings the responsibility of preserving them, and they lost them through corruption, alteration, and concealment. Allah Says (what means):

"Indeed, We sent down the Torah, in which was guidance and light. The prophets who submitted [to Allah] judged by it for the Jews, as did the rabbis and scholars by that with which they were entrusted of the Scripture of Allah, and they were witnesses thereto." [Qur'an 5:44]
In the Qur'an, Allah Almighty informs us that the Torah was changed; He Says (what means):

"So woe to those who write the "scripture" with their own hands, then say, "This is from Allah," in order to exchange it for a small price. Woe to them for what their hands have written and woe to them for what they earn." [Qur'an 2:79]
Being the final, all-encompassing and preserved against any change, the Islamic Law abrogated all the previous Scriptures which sustained human interpolations. Abrogation generally takes place with regards to secondary matters of law. As for fundamental principles, like the Oneness of Allah, The Most Exalted, the prohibition of idolatry, and the fundamentals of worship – matters that form the basic call of all the Messengers, may Allah exalt their mention, they are not subject to abrogation.

The Law that came with Prophet 'Eesa (Jesus) may Allah exalt his mention abrogated part of the Law that came with Moosa (Moses) may Allah exalt his mention. Relating the words of Prophet 'Eesa may Allah exalt his mention to the Children of Israel, Almighty Allah Says (what means): "And I have come confirming that which was before me of the Torah and to make lawful to you part of what was forbidden to you…" [Qur'an 3:50]

The Islamic Law is lasting, remaining suitable for every place and time, and embracing the goodness of the previous manifestations of the Law. Allah Says (what means): “And We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth, confirming that which preceded it of the Scripture and as a criterion over it." [Qur'an 5:48]

The Qur'an is different from the previous Scriptures in the following respects:

(1) The Qur'an is miraculous and inimitable. Nothing similar to it can be produced by human beings. Allah challenged both humans and jinn to produce the like of the Qur'an, as in the verse (which means): "Say, "If mankind and the jinn gathered in order to produce the like of this Qur'an, they could not produce the like of it, even if they were to each other assistants." [Qur'an 17:88]

He, The Almighty, further challenged the disbelievers among the Arabs to produce even one chapter similar to the Quranic chapters, Saying (what means): "And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our Servant [Muhammad], then produce a chapter the like thereof and call upon your witnesses other than Allah, if you should be truthful." [Qur'an 2:23]

(2) After the Qur'an, no more Scriptures will be revealed by Allah. Just as the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ) is the last Prophet, the Qur'an is the last Scripture.

(3) Allah has taken it upon Himself to protect the Qur'an from alteration, to safeguard it from corruption, and to preserve it from distortion (as stated in the meaning of [Qur'an 15:9] previously quoted. On the other hand, the previous Scriptures suffered alteration and distortion and did not remain in their originally revealed form (as mentioned above in [Qur'an 4:46]).

(4) The Qur'an, for one, confirms early Scriptures and, for another, is a trustworthy witness over them [Qur'an 5:48].

(5) The Qur'an abrogates them, meaning it cancels the rulings of the previous Scriptures and renders them inapplicable. The Law of the old
Scriptures is no longer applicable; the previous rulings have been abrogated with the new Law of Islam.

Accordingly, Allah does not accept any religion except Islam as a way to His Pleasure, as He Says (what means):

"And whoever desires other than Islam as religion never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers." [Qur'an 3:85]

For, it is impossible to base this information on a man's personal discovery who lived at that age; it is also impossible to base it on all people's discovery who lived at that age. It is impossible for a man to discover and write a truth that science has discovered only in this age on his own fourteen centuries ago.

Not in all cases, and sometimes not enough, and in a few cases, the child refuses (or can't latch on) to the mother's nipples (size may be too big, or even too small). That's why we've always had wet nurses throughout history in all parts of the world.
