The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adumu has revealed that final year secondary students in Nigeria won't be taking part in the 2020 West African Examination Council as a result of the COVID-19 pandamic. The grand opening of Zonal Police headquarters, Zone 13 Ukpo in Dunukofia Local Government of Anambra state took place on Wednesday, News9naija learnt. The event had the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu (represented by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Celestine Okoye), Commissioner of Police Anambra State, Mr John Abang , The Crown Prince Of Ukpo Kingdom, Prince Arthur Eze, Anambra Governorship Aspirant, Dr Godwin Ezeemo, the traditional ruler of Ukpo Kingdom, Igwe Robert Eze, and many other notable personalities in attendance. The Zone 13 Police Headquarters was recently approved by President Muhammadu Buhari among the five new Zones created by the the Inspector General Of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu. Recall that new Zonal Headquarter which got to Anambra attracted the attention of various bigwigs in the State including the like of Prnce Arthur Eze and Dr. Godwin Maduka. Each of the parties indicated interest and worked towards ensuring the new Zonal Headquarter would situate in thier community. However, News9naija learnt that Prince Arthur Eze of Ukpo facilitated the situating of the new Zonal Headquarter as against Dr. Godwin Maduka’s bid to have it situated in Umuchukwu, his home town. Kogi State Government has inaugurated Justice Henry Olusuyi as the State's New Chief Judge, News9naija reports. The event which took place on Wednesday in the state capital had the Gov. Yahaya Bello, Deputy Gov. Edward Onoja, The Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Matthew Kolawale and others in attendance. The federal high court Abuja presided over by Justice Okon Abang has granted the bail application filed by Dr Obinna Uzo who is standing trial for alleged falsification of court documents and processes which he used to forge court documents that purportedly sacked senator Dr Ifeanyi Ubah of YPP. At the resumed hearing today, Justice Abang delivered ruling on Dr Uzo’s bail application. Ruling on his bail application, the court ordered Obinna Uzo to surrender his international passport and provide a surety in the sum of 3 million naira with landed property in Abuja. The court also ordered Obinna Uzo not to travel out of Abuja until his trial ends. News9naija reports that Workers in the Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ISOPADEC) has staged protests in front of the Imo State Government house over Unpaid Salaries. The workers who are protesting the State Government’s inability to pay salaries in arrears of three months blocked the entrance to the Government. Recall that Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma had earlier revealed how his administration in the last two months saved over N800m from corrupt contractors in the Imo State Oil Producing Development Commission (ISOPADEC). Imo State is one of the state that receives Oil Derivation Fund From the Federal Government monthly, however, the state has been unable to pay salaries and protests have continued to rock the state in recent time. The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Sen, Uche Lilian Ekwunife has has taken up hospital expenses of the 20 year old rape victim who delivered triplet, News9naija report. The incident which involved a 20 year old groundnut seller who delivered a set of triplets had caused outrage on several social media platform. Subsequently upon delivery, the rape victim and now mother of three was held hostage at Prevailer Care Clinic and Maternity in Mbaitolu Local Government Area of Imo State for inability to settle her accumulated bill of N422,000. The Senator, represented a team led by her Legislative Assistant, Mrs Ifeyinwa Chinwuko, on Saturday paid a courtesy visit to the hospital and delivered a sum of N500,000 to the girl to foot the bills and return home. Other items donated to the mother of three are bundles of diapers, tissues and other baby accessories. Speaking after during the presentation, Mrs Ifeyinwa said, "We need to encourage victims of sexual abuse to speak out in order to assist the government in the fight against rape and other sexual abuses. Parents have to engage their wards more often in order to identify when they have been taken advantage of by rapists, and ensure that they inform the appropriate authorities so that proper investigations, arrests and prosecutions can be made" Sen. The Government of Anambra State, through the office of the State Commissioner for Women Affairs has rescued two teenage girls from their abusive guardian, News9naija reports. The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue, on Saturday, 4th June, 2020, at Awka, intervened in a case of Maltreatment and malicious bodily harm, rescued two teenage girls from their abusive guardian, who subjected them to torture, starvation and maltreatment. News9naija learnt that the rescued girls, Chikamso 12 and Chinasa 14 years of age, from Anaku, Anambra and Ebonyi state respectively were denied access to Basic Education by their guardian, Mrs Odili Goodness. The Federal Government on Thursday arraigned one Dr Obinna Uzoh and his Lawyer, Eziafa Enwedo for allegedly forging court documents. Dr Obinna Uzoh and his lawyer is facing a six count charge bordering on forgery and falsifying the court documents in which he used to obtain a fraudulent judgement which allegedly sacked senator Dr Ikemba Ifeanyi Ubah of YPP from the senate. Others FG cited as Defendants at large, in the charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/78/2020, are Anani Anacletus Chuka, Aroh Ifunanya and Faith Samuel. FG told the court that the Defendants, by their action, committed an offence contrary to Section 3(b) of the miscellaneous offences Act Cap M17 Law’s Of the Federation Of Nigeria 2004 and punishable under Section 1(2) of the same Act. The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges read to them before Justice Okon Abang of Federal High Court, Abuja. Council to the defendants, Mr. Chukwudi Igwe, prayed for the court to release the 1st Defendant on bail but withdrew his application for bail of the 2nd Defendant pursuant to which same was struck out. In his ruling, Justice Abang allowed the Eziafa Samuel who is the 1st Defendant to continue on his existing bail granted to him on 19th March 2020. The court however ordered that the 2nd Defendant, Dr. Obinna Uzoh should be remanded in police custody till July 6 when his formal bail application will be heard. Recalled that troubles started for Dr Obinna Uzo after investigation by a Disciplinary Committee indicted him for forgery and falsification of court processes. The Committee discovered that Obinna Uzo conspired with his lawyers and the affected court officials to criminally forge court documents and processes and used same to obtain and backdate the judgement purportedly issued at the FCT high court 25, Kubwa. Obinna Uzo thereafter went into hiding until he was declared wanted by the Police. Dr Obinna Uzoh has however, on July 1st, tendered apologies to the Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah of YPP. Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state has sworn in Hon. Barr. Cosmas Ibeziako Ugwueze and Barr. Walter Ozioko as Nsukka LGA chairman and Deputy Chairman respectively. Hon. Ugwueze served as the Deputy Chairman of NSukka LGA until the recent passing on of the former Chairman, Chief Hon. Patrick Omeje. Speaking during the event which took place on Monday in the Enugu State Government House, the Lion Building shortly after his swearing in, Hon. Ugwueze thanked Gov. Ugwuanyi , “it is a solemn moment in the history of Enugu State because we have lost our chairman”, he said. Kunnu LG Politics, COVID19 Update Yahaya Bello The Executive Governor of Kogi State has declared a two week lockdown in Kabba-Kunnu Local Government Area of the State to enable proper contact tracing of the state’s COVID-19 cases. The governor while issuing the lockdown promised to dole out palliative to the affected citizen while admitting that the lockdown will trigger economic, social, and even health implications that will not be favourable to anyone including him. COVID-19: Bayelsa Govt Seals Living Faith Church, Five Others for Breach of Safety Measures The Task Force on COVID-19 in Bayelsa State has sealed six churches for failure to comply with safety measures put in place to curb the spread of the pandemic. A statement by Freston Akpor, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Orientation and member, Bayelsa State Task Force on COVID-19 revealed that the affected churches are Living Faith Church, Igbogene, Salvation Victory Centre, Igbogene, Shalom International Christian Centre, along Tombia-Amassoma Road, Great Grace Distinguished Assembly, Okutukutu, Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, Opolo, and Hebrews International Church, Ayama Road. He further directed that the sealed churches will remain closed until further notice to serve as a deterrent to others. So far the state has recorded 21 confirmed cases of COVID-19 out of which 14 are active. Sen Stella Odua, a former Minister of Aviation and the lawmaker representing Anambra North Senatorial District, has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of killers of Uwaila Omozuwa, a student of the University of Benin who was raped and killed in a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Benin City, the Edo State capital, News9naija reports. Sen Odua in two separates posts on her facebook and Twitter handles, reacted to the killing calling for immediate action to be taken towards ensuring that the perpetrators of the heinous crime are brough to book. “My attention has just been drawn to a hineous crime perpetrated by evil and unconscionable minds who allegedly raped and murdered this innocent child whose only crime was seeking a “safe” haven to study”, she wrote on Facebook. “I am dumbfounded and utterly gutted at this unfortunate turn of events and I join every sane mind out there to call for the immediate arrest and prosecution of these cold hearted murderers who took a precious life they couldn’t give in the house of Go”, she added. The Senator took to Twitter few minutes later to express her anger as the killers are still walking free. she called on the authorities to take immediate actions. “I am utterly gutted that her evil and unreasonable murderers are yet to be apprehended and I call on the authorities to expedite action in arresting them”, she tweeted. She condoled with the families of the deceased and called on to God grant them the fortitude to bear this loss. The leadership of the National Association Of Nigeria Students (NANS), South East and South South zone has condemned the killing of Uwaila Omozuwa, a student of the University of Benin who was raped and killed in a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Benin City, the Edo State capital, News9naija reports. Speaking through a statement signed by Comr. Jeremiah Friday O, the Union called on the Security operatives to investigate and bring the culprits to face the law. “The leadership of the Zone call on the security operatives to investigate and bring the culprits to face the law” a part of the Statement reads.
