Good day fellow NLanders, pls I need your candid advice on this, I’m torn between two choices. Pls pardon typos, hope you don't get bored with the long read! Brief info about me =>I will be 21 by Dec =>I’m the last born and only son =>I was born at my parents old age, mum is late now and dad is greatly aged and lives in the Village. Back to the story; Being born at my parents’ old age and coupled with the poor standard of living (extreme poverty), my parents couldn't afford much of proper schooling for me but mum swore to give me the best of education even if it entails selling her wrappers (she and dad didn’t go school and she regrets it) My family is a polygamous one ( Dad had 2 wives, mum being the first). The responsibility of sending me to a private school rested on mum who never slacked in providing me with the best of required reading and writing materials. Thing however, took different turn when mum died while I was still in Primary 2. I dropped out of the private school and got enrolled in the community primary school. Towards primary 5, I got a scholarship that saw me all through to senior secondary. I graduated in 2017 with good grades in WAEC. After graduation, I knew I couldn’t continue to further due to funds, no one to help. If I tried I might be lucky to get admission but continuing the study in the long run may be a problem. My sisters are all married now but they are also struggling to keep up with their families which I don’t want to add to the financial burden. I went on to join a network marketing coy with the little savings I had but ended up losing them. Early February 2018, I relocated to new a state, and started several menial jobs. I was able to save some money. Early January this year, I enrolled for regular computer training in one ICT center in my area, passed out and enrolled for web design and development which I’m almost through now. (I started my mine gradually, I’ve also applied for CAC registration but cert not yet out). I plan to start mine and gradually enroll for more related trainings like Android app creation, hacking, Desktop app, and jack more programming language, etc, throughout this year and next year, then go to school when I gross some considerable monthly income. During the course of my menial jobs’ days, I got attached to a politician who is from a neighboring LG to mine. He has been helpful all through. Recently, he asked me to register for JAMB this year and enroll for lessons early; that if I get admission, he will render some assistance and see me through school [/b ] [b]The Crux => Going to lesson and chasing admission this year will tamper with my initial plans. =>The offer he made is not binding, he can withdraw at any time he feels like. =>Dumping my skill acquisition now to pursue admission now will make me more dependent on him financially in the long run. =>If I fall out of favour with him, that mean I will be stranded (humans can change) =>If I wish to continue pursuing my skill acquisition, I will lose the offer (he is already getting upset that I’ve not started Jamb lessons already; not minding financial constraint and time ) Little Hint: My phone’s charging port went bad last Sunday night, so I woke up into Monday with a low battery, I couldn’t fix it that Monday till yesterday (Tuesday), after charging it I saw A MISSED CALL from him and another one from his wife, I called him back. He initially declined the call but picked on the second attempt, Below is how the conversation went translated into English: ME: Hello good afternoon sir HIM: Hello, U**** let me tell you something, when I’m dealing with people, I like to be straight with them. When people around me starts becoming cunning, I have just 2 options I use on them. If the person is in my league, we will play the game to the end. If he is not in my league [i.e below] I simply distance myself from them. ME: sorry sir… I just fixed my phone… HIM: I’m not in for any story, listen to me carefully, when did you see my call? ME: Just now HIM: When did I call you? ME: around 7 am, on Monday. HIM: I called on Monday and you are just seeing it now ME: My phone had issues , I just fixed it… HIM: Listen very carefully, if not for my wife, I won’t be answering this call now , but Ive told you what I have to tell you. ME: sorry si.. HIM: You saw my call and ignored since Monday, my wife called and you ignored it too. If it was out of emergency, this is when you will respond. Just know that since you have chosen to ignore my call, I won’t call you again. But remember when you call me, I may not pick your call. You know that calls are in different forms [hangs up] ME: (dials his number again) HIM: U**** what is it now? Stop disturbing me ! (hangs up) ************************************************************************************* I want to visit him on Sunday and iron out things with him on, also relate my plan of choosing informal training over school. Pls guys, if you are in my situation, what would you do? Accept the offer and risk getting stranded or continue informal training. I’m really confused. NB: he has been very helpful to me, he helped me move out of my ghetto area to place in the GRA that I don’t pay rent for as long as I am in favour with him. I’ve noticed that he is very generous but its always short lived as he pick offence over little things. Just last month, he sent someone outta the country( just to show you guys how generous he is) I can talk him out of this misunderstanding but I’m scared of subsequent ones in the long run. |

Oil rose on Monday on expectations that Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest oil exporter, will continue to support output cuts by OPEC and other producers to prop up prices under new Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman. Prices climbed for a fourth day and were also supported by comments from the United Arab Emirates’ energy minister that OPEC and its allies are committed to balancing the crude market. Global benchmark Brent LCOc1 was up 61 cents, or 1 per cent, at 62.15 dollars a barrel by 0649 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate CLc1 was up 65 cents, or 1.2 per cent, at 57.17 dollars a barrel. Salman, a long-time member of the Saudi delegation to the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, was named minister on Sunday, replacing Khalid al-Falih. He is the son of Saudi King Salman. It is the first time the energy portfolio has been handed to a member of the royal family. He helped to negotiate the current global agreement on supply cuts between OPEC and non-OPEC countries including Russia, a group known as OPEC+. A Saudi official said on Sunday there would be no shift in Saudi and OPEC policy. “The change at the top doesn’t necessarily mean a shift in policy as much as it’s being viewed as a move to improve relations within OPEC and with non-OPEC producers in the wake of the latest Russian compliance fissures,” said Stephen Innes, Asia Pacific market strategist at Axi Trader. Russia’s oil output in August exceeded its quota under the OPEC+ agreements. UAE Energy and Industry Minister Suhail al-Mazrouei said on Sunday that members of OPEC and non-OPEC producers were “committed” to achieving oil market balance. Trade and geopolitical tensions are affecting the market more than demand and supply, Mazrouei said, but he was quick to rule out hasty steps influenced by the trade war between the United States and China. “The fear of slower (oil) demand is only going to happen if that tension is escalating and I am personally hopeful that is not the case,” Mazrouei told Reuters on Sunday. Prices on Monday were also supported by a rise in oil imports in China in August, with shipments to the world’s biggest importer up three per cent from July and nearly 10 per cent higher in the first eight months of 2019 from a year earlier. In the United States, drilling companies cut the number of operating oil rigs for a third week in a row last week. Blackivy29:Tales plenty Where do I start from ![]() Sitting round the kitchen cooking stone (three triangulated stones used to support the pot) listening to Mama's folktales with ash stained toes waiting for the fufu. When its finally done, mama would bring it down, Chinwe would bring out the basket (fufu is put inside the polythene bag layered basket). She would turn them into the waiting mortar (never washes till I left villa; after use, it is scraped and upturned). Chike would pound with reckless abandon( his friends are already waiting outside for the night hang out but he must pound the fufu before going out, else no food when he returns, that's if papa would open door for him) Finally Chinwe will scoop the fufu, put in one big plate for the night's meal and keep some in the "painter" (big custard bucket used as cooler). Being the youngest, I would fetch water (for washing hand) while Ndukwe would go and call papa. Finally, Papa would assume his position (fixed, you dare not seat there during meal). The fufu will be at the center of the wooden table made by John (the carpenter). Mama will seat at the adjacent extreme to Papa while we line up on the wooden betch. I will pass pass the "washing hand water" round starting from Papa to Mama to Chinwe etc according to our age . Soup will be dishes in two plates while the fufu will be at center (for ease of access). I will mould little fufu and swim the soup for fish (broken into pieces, we call it "mangara" .Chinwe will turn detective but I will play the last born mama's boy. I will have my way but Chinwe will make sure I pay indirectly (story for another). Finally we will chorus "papa tank saa", mama tank saa" and proceed to wash hands. I will pretend to be dizzy so that mama will tell Chinwe to clear the plates. Once the plates are off the table, zoooooom, I'm off. I will rush off to join other kids in one "not so distant house" The only house with a generating set (we had no light then, just some wooden poles standing for ages). We would seat down to watch some records the man has collected ( the only man from my village who has gone to town). That black and white (monochrome) tv with two antennae and a protruded back) we call it belle Tv. When the Gen finally goes off, Come and see race. Carry your slippers for hand (if you had one), find the kids closest to your house and run along. If papa is home, (na story for another day), but if na mama, we don enter house. make I stop here. Gist too much abeg. |

Blackivy29:Nope Once you deep the cup inside, they will dive to the bottom. (The cup is usually an aluminum cup with side handle or the regular uneven handle-less conical stainless steel cup), |

Indomie generation won't know this. Growing up in the villa, during raining season we would fill this earthen fridge with water fetched from shallow dung up collector (well). These earthen pots filled with water would be left for the dry season. During this period, every particle in it sediments to the bottom. (Chemistry later taught me "decantation") You will only have to worry about "small creatures" like that (I don't know the English name). When the dry season comes, your earthen pot will serve you cool water to chill and relieve the hot weather. Ours had a special spot for it then (barn) which has been taken over by a new house. Just saw the pictures and the memories came alive. Gather here if you ever drank from this pot!

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) says there is no truth in a media report that a Max Airline plane carrying over 500 pilgrims from Saudi Arabia to Nigeria crash-landed at Minna International Airport on Saturday. The Chairman of the commission, Alhaji Abdullahi Muhammad, said this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) from Makkah, Saudi Arabia on Sunday. He said immediately the story filtered into the public domain, the commission conducted its findings into the purported development by getting in touch with the management of the airline concerned and interviewed some passengers that boarded the said plane. “The result of our findings showed that there is no such thing as emergency landing or crash landing of any plane in Minna involving pilgrims being transported back to Nigeria by the commission. “Some of the passengers we talked with on the issue even said they were hearing the purported news for the first time and that there was no such development as far as they were concerned,” Muhammad said. The management of Max Air, which also denied the report, however, said there was heavy torrential rain with unstable wind when the plane was landing at the airport. Capt. Ibrahim Dili, Director of Flight Operations of the airline, while reacting to the report, said that at the time of arrival, there was heavy torrential rain with unstable winds. “The instrument landing system at the airport was epileptic with unreliable signals. “Our pilots executed an approach, using their wealth of experience, knowledge of the terrain and environment to a safe landing and stop on the runway during which one of engines slightly brushed the runway.” The slight brush of the engine, Dili said, was due to the complex landing maneuvers occasioned by the strong downdraft, stressing that the aircraft did not crash or skid off. According to him, the aircraft taxied safely to the airport terminal and passengers disembarked without any problem. He, however, said that all required reports of the “minor incident” had been filled. Dili said officials of the Nigerian Civil Aviation (NCAA) and Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) inspected the aircraft and the runway and were satisfied with the outcome of their inspection. NAN recalls that some dailies had earlier reported that a plane conveying about 600 pilgrims in the 2019 pilgrimage from Saudi Arabia crash-landed at the Minna International Airport. It said that the aircraft was said to have developed technical fault in one of its four engines and skidded off the runway while approaching the airport. The report, however, said no pilgrim was injured or death recorded in the incident. Meanwhile, a check on the command and control centre of NAHCON showed that the commission has so far conducted 80 flights with 38,807 pilgrims transported back to Nigeria as at Sept. 7. The centre disclosed that Max Air, with registration no. 2098 departed Jeddah to Kano via Katsina with 529 pilgrims. https://www.news9naija.com.ng/2019/09/08/no-plane-carrying-muslim-pilgrims-crash-landed-in-minna-nahcon/ |
