Ma_J_Blige: so i take it that when GEJ gets his hand caught in the cookie jar it's all so far fetched and unbelievable? it's just mischief making from disgruntled hacks and we should just chalk it down to bad and irresponsible journalism, right? but funnily enough when ANYBODY else is accused of such crimes then these same sources and journalists are held up as shinning beacons of democracy. you guys and your selective rationale. make your mind up and stick to it. otherwise leave me alone please. oh, and i don't fancy myself as an intellectual. i do think i'm smarter than you though. and it should read: who is discussing with whom. |

Politics / Goodluck Jonathan: Just Another Corrupt Nigerian by appletango: 6:53pm On Dec 10, 2010 |
I have noticed with increasing frustration the manner in which a number of posters have taken to debating these presidential elections. While I am aware of the nature of democracy and welcome pluralism on this forum I am becoming saddened at the level of debate. Even though most of us enjoy the odd bit of banter here and there, nowadays the majority of posts inevitable end up in a immature and sensationalist fight that is best left for the schoolground. For example, the usual debate nowadays goes a little something like this: someone 1: GEJ is heaven sent. he is the new nigeria. we must follow him whatever o!! someoneelse1983: but where's your proof? how do we know he is the messiah? i'm not sure if we can trust him given recent revelations. someone 1: but he's honest and humble. and even if he isn't that experienced at least he's so much better than these horrible past leaders who have stolen billions and billions and billions and billions and billions of, blah, blah, blaaaaaaaaaah now it is at this point that i usually give up on the debate because, as some very erudite person pointed out earlier, there a few "battered wives" on here who are "only in it to win arguments in such pettishly childish ways, rather than actually having sincere and objective discussions where ever Jonathan is concerned". but actually it's about time a few home truths were pointed out: jonathan is not a messiah; he's not special; he's not the fresh, new face of nigeria; he's not even a good politician. HE IS JUST ANOTHER CORRUPT NIGERIAN. he has surrounded himself with the same gang of people who have gorged themselves on the federal coffers for the past 15 odd years. he is part of the same political party that is known for institutionalising corruption and rigging elections. he is simply a PRODUCT OF THE SYSTEM. And don't just take my word for it, read the section bellow: Please not that I didn't bold any text because I believe the WHOLE article is relevant. Sorry for its length.
http://www.pointblanknews.com/Articles/artopn2593.html now i know the usual suspects will bring out the usual lines on "IBB, ATIKU, OBJ" but this thread is not about them. this thread is about jonathan and all his horrible little nasty skeletons which are just waiting to pop out of the closet and go "BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" |

FBS: we have been here before, no? how long ago was it that they were claiming the 50k bakare "bribe" didn't take place? yet they still want us to believe them; they've been caught with their trousers round their ankles too many times and it's really starting to turn people off the self-styled "anointed one". but here's the funny thing; the real kicker: THEY EVEN HANDLE A CRISIS REGARDING GEJ SUPPOSED ADMISSION OF INEXPERIENCE IN AN INEXPERIENCED MANNER they are too quick to deny; too brazen in their denials; and too hasty with their choice of words. they belittle the office of the president every time Niboro makes a statement. if really there were no truth to this then why engage in such an incomplete and ambiguous public denial? why take such a hostile and defensive approach? they behave as if they themselves know they don't belong in that office and they are scared they are about to get caught out at any moment. kinda like tom hanks in BIG. its actually quite funny. their PR is awful. |

PhysicsQED: GEJ is far from the sophisticated manipulator that you wish he was. instead he is a walking talking clown. they guy is so petrified of saying anything wrong that he has stopped speaking to the media completely. in case you haven't noticed it is always his "policy spokesman said this" or his "campaign manager said that"; seriously, when was the last time you actually heard the guy speak? and i bet you that even then it was scripted. the guy is a so out of his depth that it's somewhat sad to see him struggling with basic doggie paddle inorder to keep his head above water. didn't you see the baboon on CNN? to think this is nigeria's "first citizen". |

sweet9ja: if wikileak is so good for the guy then why has his one man PR team - Ima Niboro - hurridly released a statement trying to rubbish the authenticity of the "leak'? if, as you say, it was "god sent" then surely they should all be embracing it, no? in fact, isn't it sacrilegious to deny something that is sent by god? does this mean that gej is actually engaged in ritualistic devil worshiping OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG i think you'll find that they are extremely scared about the potential ramifications of this event. as you can tell by their amateur denial. speaking of which, do you not remember the last time they tried to deny something?? that one didn't end to well for them and neither will this. |

come chop: ah bless you. you really are a simple creature bocin500: you're the type of person who posts on the "Wikileaks Cables: Shell's Grip On Nigerian State Revealed" thread and blames all the horrible, mean western companies for all our country's woes; you are arent you? |
Politics / Re: Goodluck Jonathan: "I Dont Have Good Political Experience" by appletango: 6:02pm On Dec 09, 2010 |
i have read every single word written on this thread and i must admit that i had hoped for a better understanding of politics from some of you so called "political observers"; i should have know better. some of the comments are unbelievably naive. here are some of my favorite "observations": "robbin sander commended him and hint on his genuineness", "the less Nigerian political experience you have, the better", "GEJ as displayed in many many ways that he is a true man and not desperate for power", "That released transcript makes him look like a hero and patriot, imo", "Now he has gain more experience and of course we all started from some where either with less experience or not at all." "I [Goodluck Jonathan] am only an Ordinary Nigerian found on the street by God and positioned to serve my people", and "U are not chosen to do something or represent some1 because u are the most qualified but due to God's favour." it seems as if a lot of you have no concept of what constitutes being a good President, or what constitutes being a good leader. you have become so wrapped up in zoning, tribalism, religion, etc, that you fail to see the wood from the trees. so let me break it down to you in a manner in which Nigerians understand: think of this country as a company. a large company with an annual turnover of $168b (nigeria gdp 2009). now to put things into perspective chevron has a turnover of $273bb; shell's $287b. now the President of a country is its CEO. he is the person responsible for all of his employees, he is responsible for their welfare, their working conditions and making sure they get paid on time. he is also responsible for the fortunes of the company's shareholders; he needs to make sure that the company makes enough money so that the price of their shares increases and also that they get paid their yearly dividends. if you look at the head of these two oil giants (John S. Watson and Peter Voser respectively) you will see that these man have considerable working experience. when they were appointed to their positions they had to go through a rigorous interview process. while honesty and sincerity are valuable and commendable attributes for any person seeking positions of importance I can assure you there are other characteristics that are given greater value: leadership skills, decision making ability, vision, stability, communication skills, multi-tasking, composure, insight, etc. Now ALL of these skills are obtained through many many years of experience. Baring in mind Voser had 22 years at Shell before he became CEO, Watson had 30 years at Chevron. these are not coincidences; these are good business practices. now on another thread some of the same guys on here have been complaining about shell's ability to infiltrate the Nigerian government with such ease - and you have the stupidity to wonder why!! can you not see the link between a company which has directors and leaders who are experienced and knowledgeable in their positions of power and a country which seems have to promote politicians who "learn on the job" with the mentality of "let's wait and see." or let me put it another way, if any of you owned shares in Shell or Chevron then I can guarentee that you would not be so free to promote a weak, inexperienced candidate just because he is honest and sincere. you wouldn't trust him with your company because you'd fear the potential ramifications to your share price and dividends. you'd want somebody who knows the inner workings of the operation; somebody who is tried and tested in positions of extreme pressure; somebody who has the charisma and leadership skills to inspire and motivate those around him. And YET some of you are willing to take that risk with the leader of your country even though the ramifications are far greater than just a weak share price. surely you want somebody who has the capacity to lead this country? surely you want somebody who has years of working in positions of extreme pressure? Or somebody who has good management or administerial skills? surely you need to inspire unity and safety instead of this uncertainty and division we are getting. surely you must be able to see the logic in that?? And even if YOU don't then there is somebody out there who does: "There were a lot more qualified people around to be Vice President." - GOODLUCK JONATHAN - 2010 |

Beaf: i find it funny that you are still arguing his case when even your own man is saying things like: "There were a lot more qualified people around to be Vice President." - GOODLUCK JONATHAN - 2010 but seriously, give it up man; you are fighting a losing battle. if you were actually supporting a candidate from outside the PDP then i would at least appreciate this self-righteous, holier than thou stance of yours and i might even have a little respect for you; but all this rubbish about "fresh, honest and sincere" when describing a PDP politician - who has as dubious record as the best of them - is just sad and pathetic, and a little bit deranged may i add. you do realise that you're the laughing stock of this board? |
Politics / Re: Goodluck Jonathan: "I Dont Have Good Political Experience" by appletango: 1:50am On Dec 09, 2010 |
Beaf: this thread has nothing to do with any other politicians. this is about GEJ and HIS OWN admission (as well as that of the US ambassador, I hasten to add) that he is not good enough to lead this country. violent is right. it is the best man for the job. and by the sound of it GEJ has just ruled himself out of the running |
Politics / Re: Goodluck Jonathan: "I Dont Have Good Political Experience" by appletango: 1:41am On Dec 09, 2010 |
DapoBear: it what way shape or form does this make him look like a hero and patriot? because he's dumb? because he's inexperienced? because he was scared? because he was lonely? because he had no friends? because people were confusing him for a obj stooge? because he had reneged on his initial promise to only lead for 12 months? because the nasty western imperialists were completely "underwhelmed" by his ability and performance? or what please don't let sentiment get in the way of good judgment. the guy is clearly not fit and proper to lead a country as complex as nigeria. |

eerrrrrrrrr NO. that's not what's going to happen. what's going to happen is that people are going to realise that instead of being the "new and fresh" face of nigerian politics, what we really have is a bumbling, mumbling , man who by his own admission is NOT THE RIGHT MAN FOR THE JOB. how can you have a man who has no experience in politics leading the world's largest black economy. the guy even admits that his not a politician or administrator. people are gonna have a loooooot of fun with this. ITS A JOKE the whole world can see it. check this out: "The verdict is out on Jonathan and his previously underwhelming personality and performance needs to keep us in the cautious lane" - Robin R. Beaf: please never quote wikipedia to me again. the next time you go i'll give you an immediate "F". flarring is not the most dangerous form of pullution in the niger delta. not even close. the air quality in large industrial cities (lagos, port harcourt, ect) is far worse than the air quality in the oil producing regions of the niger delta. and if people are too silly to avoid "walking into huge balls of fire while they are carrying out their daily tasks then that's too bad for them." but as i said before i agree with you that it should be stopped but not for the reasons you are stating. |
Politics / Re: Niger Delta Under Internal ‘Colonial Rule’ by appletango: 7:20pm On Dec 07, 2010 |
Beaf: pollution resulting from gas flaring DOES NOT effect the immediate environment. it is therefore a global issue and not a niger delta issue. |
Politics / Re: Niger Delta Under Internal ‘Colonial Rule’ by appletango: 7:11pm On Dec 07, 2010 |
Beaf: as has already been stated, the majority of pollution within the niger delta is a direct result of vandalizing. these acts are committed by local residents in order to engage in illegal bunkering; in order to obtain compensation that is payed out by the FG or oil companies for the resulting environmental damage; or in order to sabotage the countries oil production so as to make a political and ideological point to the country and wider international audience. it's YOUR OWN PEOPLE destroying their backyard and, may i add, usually for financial gain. you are correct with flaring tho. it is a wasteful and unnecessary practice. however the environmental impact on the immediate area is minimal and is therefore not relevant to the conversation we are having. |

It is her second visit to the United Arab Emirates, where many wealthy people now shop for expensive luxury items; the first was recently, while her husband was serving as “Acting President.” A source said she would be leaving for Lebanon from Dubai, and that she is known to be interested in buying gold jewelry. Presidency officials are warily staying away from the sensitive subject of why the new First Lady, who has two money-laundering scandals against her that have yet to be resolved, seems to have discovered a new taste for the Emirates. One presidency official who requested anonymity described the trip as a “private visit” to Lebanon, not Dubai. “This is the strangest of visits for Mrs. Jonathan,” a political analyst told Saharareporters in Abuja. “To begin with, this woman has a legal record and she surely must know that the days of a quiet private visit for her are over. Second, President Olusegun Obasanjo’s wife died on an operating table in a foreign capital; is Mrs. Jonathan visiting a foreign doctor? Third, her husband’s predecessor just passed away. Are these not reasons why someone in her position should be thinking of a low, low profile only weeks after her husband assumed the presidency?” In August 2006, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) seized the sum of N104 million from one Mrs. Nancy Ebere Nwosu, an associate of Patience Jonathan. Justice Anwuli Chikere of the Federal High Court gave EFCC the legal backing to retain the N104 million seized from Mrs. Jonathan and her associate. Weeks later, in September, the EFCC seized $13.5 million dollars from Mrs. Jonathan, and announced that the seizure followed Mrs. Jonathan’s attempt to launder the money through an associate. At that time, her husband held sway as Governor of Bayelsa State. Those cases were never discharged, as her husband became vice-presidential candidate, and then vice-president. His assuming the presidency and affirming his readiness to combat graft in the country has had many Nigerians wondering whether he will handle the case concerning his wife with nepotism. Today, as word spread she had left for Dubai, tongues began to wag. “Nigeria’s first Lady Dame Patience Jonathan may have unknowingly re-opened her money laundering case pending before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission by her present trip to Dubai,” the website “destinationnigeria.” commented this afternoon. “Now many Nigerians are wondering what her mission to Dubai at this time of their presidency could be.” At the site, many Nigerians are commenting on the visit, many of them harshly. Under Yar’Adua, Mrs. Jonathan was largely subdued, as Hajia took control of the presidency, sidelining Mr. Jonathan who was Yar’Adua’s deputy. Since the death of Yar’Adua two weeks ago, Mrs. Jonathan has unveiled a high profile presence, flagging off events and making speeches. Interestingly, Dubai authorities last week detained a high profile money launderer, former Governor of Delta State, James Ibori, who is now awaiting court hearing for possible extradition to the UK. It is not clear if Mrs. Jonathan would meet with Ibori during her visit to the UAE. Mrs. Jonathan left for Dubai last night on an Emirates flight after a presidential jet dropped her off in Lagos. She is being accompanied on her trip by Mrs. Bola Shagaya. |
