it has nothing to do with bigotry or do or die politics or any other paranoid plot that is festering in your simple little mind. it is simply a matter of respecting a party's constitution. a constitution that stipulates zoning. a constitution that put gej in the position he is in today. a constitution that he signed willingly. a constitution which a judge of the high court has recently recognised as containing a zoning agreement.

let me tell you a little something about zoning. who here can name me ONE well known national politician from the south south before the pdp during the previous republics and military regimes? anyone. nope. and yet here we have a man jeopardising any future participation in national politics by minority people because of obj's third term agenda. it's totally selfish and reckless. however, while I agree in principle that politics should always be about the best man for the job, the nigerian electorate unfortunately isn't sophisticated enough to always select the right candidate - as can be seen in the case of GEJ (whom even his biggest admires would admit IS NOT THE BEST NIGERIA CAN OFFER). until nigerian's are able to pick their leaders based on merit and merit alone, zoning is the best system in ensuring that all regions of this country are fairly looked after and represented and the high table in national politics.

think of the long game here people. some of you guys are playing chequers while others are playing chess.

i'll give anybody brownie points who can tell me why ibb is being so magnanimous in defeat?? anyone?? i'll give you a clue: a few BIG court cases are coming up.

party unity before the court case, party unity during the court case and party unity after the court case.
Politics / Re: Jonathan To Meet Atiku, Ciroma by appletango: 3:12am On Jan 16, 2011
I find it rather amusing that he's now trying to get the northern elements of the pdp back on side. baring in mind he wanted to charge these same individuals with treason a few weeks ago! LOL!! could it be because he knows he doesn't stand a change in hell at the general elections without them?

PDP is now just a regional party and for that we should all be grateful. thank you jona, you killed the beast that gave you life.

Politics / Re: It Is Impossible For Jonathan To Win Primaries. Pdp Delegates Explained. by appletango: 3:26am On Jan 14, 2011
Yes!!! Welcome to the New PDP - The party of the South-South. I guess you could do with all the "fresh air" down there what with all the flaring and what not.

I am actually laughing that the PDP has gone from being the largest party in africa to just a regional party in just one night. Very funny indeed.

Fool.

If you think that the PDP are going to win the majority of votes in the South West, South East, North West and North East then you are - I'm not going to mince my words - stupid.

I might give you a few states in the middle belt but they're not exactly populated areas. After tonight's events the MAIN urban areas (except PH) in this country will not vote PDP.

So tell me, where are PDPs votes coming from?

Remember it might be easy to control a few delegates but its going to be tricky to do it with 30 odd million people. Or are you gonna start giving N10m to 30m people??
Politics / Re: It Is Impossible For Jonathan To Win Primaries. Pdp Delegates Explained. by appletango: 2:17am On Jan 14, 2011
PDP died tonight. Let Jona have it. He can be captain of a sinking ship.

As far as everyone is concerned PDP is now a regional party of the South-South.

Just watch how many people jump ship in the up coming days.

I love it how one anonymous man can speak for every delegate.

Anyone who thinks GEJ can win more than 30% of delegates - talk less of 100% - in those states is stupid.
Politics / Re: Victory For Democracy! - Jonathan Finally Agrees To Debate by appletango: 3:17am On Dec 31, 2010
^^^^^

Wrong. There are 3,000+ delegates in total but that is beside the point,

Both campaigns have been rediculiously short on economic and social policies. I bet you that most of the general public - including the delegates - could not tell you what either candidate stood for. This is a perfect opportunity for both men to air their policies and ideas. I can't understand how anybody with democratic principles would not see the benefit of a debate at the point of time.

Why are people running scared from this? How would a debate at this point in time hinder Nigeria? Surely greater dialogue is needed in a country with as many problems as this one? And the only logical conclusion is that one man is scared witless. Shame.

A new poll has revealed that Six out of every 10 automatic delegates to the presidential nomination convention of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) believe the principle of zoning will determine the way they will vote in selecting the party’s candidate.

According to the poll conducted by some social scientists and coordinated by former head of department of Sociology, Bayero University, Kano, Mohammed Nu’uman Habib, 60% of the respondent delegates still considered zoning as germane to where the pendulum will swing during the presidential primary.

Meanwhile, 24% of the respondents considered zoning as of little importance while 16% were uncertain.
The report which was released on December 26 in Kano cited fear of intimidation as a minus for our democracy. “Who gave you my number? How did you get my name?” were often the first questions respondents raised and they had to be reassured.

Out of the 420 delegates that responded to the telephone based interview, 57% said they “don’t know” or were unwilling to say who they would vote for, a clear indication that there was the fear that they may be sanctioned by the godfathers. As many as 57% of the delegates said they were undecided on who they would be voting for in the presidential primaries if the contest is between incumbent President, Jonathan, and his main challenger, Atiku Abubakar.

In effect, the delegates to the PDP presidential primaries coming up in about a forthnight from today were keeping the campaign teams of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and, former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, on their toes as they were not in a hurry to say which of the two camps they would pitching their tents with,” the report revealed.

The polls carried out from 19th to 21st December saw the delegates rating incumbency factor as being of “little importance.” 46.77% said incumbency was of no significance to their voting intentions. Twenty-five percent of the respondents or a quarter of the respondents described incumbency an important.
Asked to rate incumbency, experience, credibility, respect for zoning, and party’s chances at the general elections and the importance they attach to these in their considerations of who they would vote for, the respondents provided some insights into what they were likely to be guided by.

In totality, delegates spoken to were unanimous that top on their considerations for a choice of presidential flagbearer would be the candidate most likely to defeat other parties in the general elections, a consideration rated “very important” or “important” by 92% of those surveyed.
Also on the shopping list of qualities the delegates were looking for between Jonathan and Atiku were experience and credibility. While 88% of the respondents rated experience as either “very important” or “important,” a slightly higher percentage, 91% said credibility in the sense of promise kept, was also of utmost importance.

The respondents, drawn from a list of members of the National Assembly, zonal and state youth leaders, as well as the state chapters’ chairmen were however, forthcoming on what would decide how they vote during the primaries.
An analysis of the distribution of those already committed to the two candidates, revealed that President Jonathan might have a majority from the South-south candidates, while Atiku might have an advantage in the South-west. Atiku was also tipped to have majority votes in the North-west and North-east zones. Delegates from the South-east and North-central zones formed the majority of those that refused to say how they would vote.

Delegates were also asked to say which of the presidential candidates in the opposition parties they considered as threats. About 44% responded, “none,” 46% mentioned Buhari, while others replied, “don’t know.”

so much for all these endorsements, eh?

Politics / Atiku Calls For Probe Of Jonathan's Election Rigging Manual by appletango: 7:43pm On Dec 27, 2010
Atiku Calls For Probe of Jonathan’s “Election Rigging Manual”

Mon Dec, 27 2010

The Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organisation has called for an independent panel of inquiry to investigate the “Election Rigging Manual” prepared by the Jonathan/Sambo Campaign Organisation.

It appealed to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to also show interest in the matter as it is capable of tarnishing its image as a party undergoing reform.

The campaign in a statement released in Abuja yesterday stated that such an independent inquiry is necessary to allay fears that have been raised by the controversy surrounding the “Rigging Manual.”

The Campaign Organisation said it is calling for the inquiry because the credibility crisis raised by the document could impact negatively on the 2011 elections.

“The document is a throwback to the era of Garrison politics. The content of the document, which outlines strategies to compromise the Judiciary, the INEC, the Police and the Media, should bother every Nigerian who is desirous of credible elections and good governance in the country.

“We should not fold our arms when a candidate in an election outlines plans to use the Police Service Commission to compromise the Police. We should not fold our arms when a candidate outlines how he is going to compromise the Judiciary for election purposes. We should not close our eyes when a candidate outlines how he will compromise an important institution like the media for electoral gains.”

These issues deserve urgent attention so that we can assure Nigerians that the 2011 elections will truly be free and fair.

who here can spell impeachment??

grin grin
Politics / Re: Atiku Challenges Jonathan To Debate by appletango: 6:28pm On Dec 27, 2010
Obama and clinton had numerous debates, as did ed and david milliband.

In fact, the normal political process in democratic societies is for politicians to debate - regardless of if its intra-party or between parties.

You guys dismissing the need for debate are just exposing your undemocratic nature.

As for those claiming that jonathan has yet to respond, yes you are right but this is now the SECOND TIME IN THREE WEEKS that he has been challenged to a live debate by atiku and still we have no response; so I think we can safely assume he's running scared.
